Activists at The Booman Tribune have put in much effort to try to stop the war in Iraq. And there is a growing cloud of possible war with Iran building on the near horizon. There has been much talk of trying to spark a larger movement. I’ve personally been involved in some behind the scenes (and rather unsuccessful) efforts to try to spark a national movement.
And when I say “national movement,” I’m talking about a massive non-violent campaign to try to directly influence the policy of our government so that it acts to end the war. I’m talking about something serious. On par with the other great non-violent movements that have taken place in the last century.
While my own efforts at planning such a thing haven’t borne fruit, it seems that ideas like this do arise in many places at once. There is no longer a need to invent the wheel on this topic. A national movement has been planned. And we can all participate. Make your Declaration of Peace. Let’s stop our war-like culture.
Yes! I join with the majority of US citizens, the people of Iraq, and people around the world in calling for a comprehensive end to the US war in Iraq. I solemnly pledge to:
Call on the Bush administration and Congress to immediately withdraw all US troops from Iraq, with no future redeployments
Urge my Congressional representatives to adopt a “bring the troops home now” position, and to establish a concrete, comprehensive withdrawal plan no later than September 21, 2006, International Peace Day, just days before Congress adjourns
Participate in marches, rallies, demonstrations, and other peaceful strategies to establish this plan
Engage in nonviolent civil disobedience, as conscience leads me, if this plan for a comprehensive withdrawal is not established and activated no later than September 21, 2006.
I just signed up! Let us as a community of peace loving, non violent people all sign up for this. Let’s do this folks. Our country needs us NOW more than ever, before its too late. Thanks as always BJ for all that you do!!
I agree with Boston Joe and Leezy
I joined also. It’s time to do this.
I’m impressed with the various groups that have endorsed this nonviolent movement, Declaration of Peace. Some of them go back more than a few decades and are highly respected for their past work.
I would encourage everyone who agrees to support Declaration of Peace to spend some time to gain understanding in how nonviolence works. See links within the following diaries for more info;
