May the 4’s be with you
You’re all on your own from now on. Just pour your former hostess a drink and let her relax.
Okay, okay, I put up a new midwest thread.
You’re wonderful.
She does know how to give a subtle hint doesn’t she.
You want pirate talk again?
Oh no no, not me. 🙂
Good, cuz this is the 6th cafe I’ve opened today and I’M TIRED.
But since next week will be my last, I don’t mind so much.
You should be tired. You are the Queen of the Cafes.
… and we’re really gonna miss you.
Good night all.
G’night Andi. See you tomorrow (night).
Night Andi.
🙂
Hi Olivia
Notice I’m still up. But not to much longer. I’m working on a giant bowl of ice cream and when I finish that, it’s off to sleep.
Eat a big bowl of ice cream before bed and then fall asleep? Did you put anything on top of the vanilla
Of course. My chemically laden chocolate/fudge shell.
I’m almost done and will be in ice cream dream land soon.
It raises the question, how long does it take to get hard? 😉
The comment I had was too vulgarly suggestive even for me.
So I’ll say good night to all.
Have a good night and see ya later.
I’m glad you’re still a gentleman even if I’m not acting like a lady. G’night FM.
You are a gentleman though. 🙂 Sleep well, and see you tomorrow.
Did you read this comment!
I bet if you flew out of Canada they would let you fly back in. It’s the searching the car thing that takes a long time. Fly to St. Louis and drive with me and kansas.
I’ve really scared myself by reading all this internet stuff about worst case scenarios.
Did I say something that would offend MaryB?
not at all. Olivia was nervous about coming to the U.S. and I told her she wouldn’t have any problem getting back to Canada. Then she read your comment.
It’s the coming into the U.S. where they are extra snitty-snotty-snooty. Not going back into Canada.
My students recc 2 hours ahead of when you really need to cross, at a minimum if you are driving. Clean cars less likely to be searched than dirty ones.
See Olivia? It’s getting IN that’s the problem, not getting out.
And it’s entering the US that scares me …
Like maryb pointed out, we had been talking about my going to join the meetup and I told them I’m scared to cross the border these days … And maryb said it would be okay and then I read your comment, so I had to point it out to her … 🙂
Where’d those buxom wenches go?
I’m here now and I’m ready!
larger
NOW you show up. The pirate ship has sailed.
I still see the mast on horizon…
Yeah, but some of the buxom wenches eluded the pirates and are still hanging out in the cafe.
and quick run out and hid in the booshess
Chester … LOL
then for sure it’s me in the booshess
Any more revelations today NDD? 😉
still have a kink in my neck however, from yesterday’s work hazard situation.
Any more revelations…
I got an answer to our bird question, will post on bottom..
I had a “nice” chat with a Republican today, mother of the owner of my favorite coffee shop. I continue to be amazed at how the R-talking points roll off their tongues. I doubt I could find a D anywhere in the city that could do the same for the opposition talking points.
Maybe more on this later in another venue… thoughts on the exchange are still coalescing in the brain.
I broke my glisses.
Actually I call the phenomenon “farm tractor deafness” in which one can make the most amazing translations from ordinary english.
ya look like ye be ready for trouble dere matey
I just rode in to check on the site and as usual the recent diary list is chock full of FBC cafe’s, lol, has anyone ever counted them…
Hey, I’ll see you all at brunch tomorrow in the cafe.
Right now I’m watching 10-5 the earthquake movie and feeling like the ground is shaking out here in Socal.
Have a good night everyone, if anyone is still up.
g’night Diane.
olivia aka Sherlock of the North, correctly identified the
Cape May Warbler

And just to reiterate … I used a book — not google. So there … 😛
can you help me find my nutrasweet story before Kidspeak disappears again… I could use some lessons on how to search my own comments.
[link]
can you search comments using something besides your uid and scrolling forever?
But if I tell you, then I’ll lose my allure!
… and posted that while I wrote out the steps:
The top right corner under Menu, find Search. On that page you’ll find options.
To search for comment threads, under the Find: select Comments. Then enter your search material in Containing. So to find NDD’s link, I selected –> Find: Comments, Containing: aspartame. Simple. As. That.
You can do this for people and diaries etc.
Make sense?
Did you really think I wouldn’t tell you? I know how awful that is, when you’re the only one who is left out of a conversation … and when it’s d/t circumstances beyond your control even. No, I would never do that.
Unlike some. 😛
your alluring canadianess is overwhelming…:{)
<sob>
Well, I’m not sure I found IT, but I found a lot of stuff, including some from previous Cafes. Scary! So I’m sitting here, craving a diet coke like mad. LIKE MAD.
OK, I’m cutting back, no cold turkey (we have a case of the stuff in the house, and I freely admit that not buying is what I am very good at, discipline-wise. Avoiding if in front of me, however, is something I have no ability to do. Total jellyfish of willpower. So, I”ve had parts of two diet sodas today, the other parts went down the drain.
Iwon’t admit what the usual intake is.. .
Great! Now what you want to do is google using following;
MS nutrasweet aspartame
and if that doesn’t cure ya… of course the MS society, and the AMA, say, well, no scientific evidence…
my question to them it, right, who the hell is going to fund that sort of research???
But it would be possible to do the research without funding. I do most of my research without funding – would never want Big Pharma, for example, to touch what I do. Funding really is essential for a lot of research though, especially looking at physical effects.
Once had a toy company person approach me, however. Yeah, right, Barbie makes children “happy”! Exactly! she said.
but I wouldn’t nec recommend going cold turkey on it.
It would just seem prudent to let the body adjust to the change somewhat gradually I think.
Why not keep a diary of your thoughts during the “quitting” process, how you feel during, etc. It might help other contemplating quitting. Just an idea.
Gorgeous photo with rare bird!
what’s a book?
Uh, what law skool did you attend? you know. sheets of paper, stuck together on one side. . .
now I remember, we DID used to have books back when I was young. It’s so hard to remember …
They were calling me a google cheater.
Yeah, rural eastern ND about taken May 16, 2006. The farmstead has a lot of very old trees, and a small orchard, so some years I get lots of migratory birds.

Excellent photos, NDD! Amazing detail on the crop.
What a lovely bird!
Sorry to hear you’ve hurt your neck.
Not sure you should feel sorry for him … ask him how he hurt it … 🙂
Gee, I’d hate to pry.
Brava on the bird ID, btw!
I’m fairly certain that I’d never seen a Cape May warbler before, as I usually remember the one’s I’ve ID in the past. At least with those that are so distinctive in coloring.
the neck; ah,, hmm, well, it’s much better now… [twas 95% BS before anyway] maybe Sherlock-olivia will find a link to splain it all…
[link]
Aha. OK, not so bad. I’ve been on both sides of that particular fence.
😉
Thank you, Miss O.
… one of those things that makes living fun … 🙂
Did your sun stay and warm you all?
Y’know, Miss O, I’m not sorry to say that I get my fun in completely different ways nowadays — like figuring out board feet & meditating on carriage bolts.
Be that as it may, however: no, the sun didn’t last for us today. It drizzled in between the rays.
Tomorrow night we may have snow, then some real warming & good sunshine.
If the details are embarrassing, somehow, I’d just as soon not know!
Glad it’s feeling better, though.
Actually the thread started a little higher up, here
Still don’t see any real cause for embarrassment, NDD.
Then again, I’m a real slob.
🙂
how your const project was going…
Thanks for asking! I’ve been chillin’ on it a bit; weather’s been lousy. After some last minute revelations, it looks like plans are basically finalized, so I’ll be gettin’ to it again as soon as the weather breaks.
I’m trying not to become overwhelmed by the deadline pressure & staying on a pretty even keel.
Currently wondering what size drill bit one uses to drill a hole for a 5/16 carriage bolt. I doubt there’s a precise match.
See how that goes. If one uses the exact size of bit then sometimes it’s difficult to get the bolts to go through ’cause it can end up that it’s too tight. Experiment, see how ya like it.
Yep, that’s what I figured about an exact size.
Thanks for the suggestion!
what’s neat about the spade bits is you can use a file to resharpen them, so you can get lots of use out of one, just try to retain the orig bevel as closely as possible.
I’ll keep that in mind.
I’ll have to poke around here & see what I’ve got by way of bits, too.
Looks like this cafe’s closed. Bedtime for Bonzo, too. It’s late & the coons are about ..
a perfect combination for the evening. I went to the B&N and in my browsing came across The Virgin of Small Plaines. I’m thoroughly enjoying it (the book and the italian wine). What’s up amigos?
You missed pirate night.
How was the vigil?
very sad, I needed an escape from imagining the horror that will probably be unleashed in this area once incidents like this become commonplace so I went to the bookstore. The wine and pizza were last-minute impulse buys that I am very thankful for at the moment.
it made me very sad.
I hope your pizza and wine are good. It’s a shame you couldn’t have seen kansas when she was out in your general area.
I wanted to meet her but it was during the week and we’re so short-handed at work that I couldn’t take the time off. It’s pretty inspiring to read something by someone that I “know”, gives me hope that the novel cooking in my brain will one day transpire.
that you wanted to write a novel. Do you write stories?
I’ve never wanted to write fiction. I’m just not creative enough. But I love to read it.
all the time, don’t you read my diaries 😉
I have a storyline being written in my head regarding the death of a friend that was the center point of a circle of people and devoting different sections to how they each deal with the loss. Also tying together Mexican-American culture and the cultural/religious effects of Catholicism on their journies. We’ll see, I have a couple of notebooks of notes to break open one day when I get serious about it.
It sounds interesting. Too bad politics of the day soaks up so much time for creative stuff
the encouragement. Rubbing elbows with people like kansas, BostonJoe and others has helped tremendously for my motivation. It’s just a matter of overcoming slacktitude and procrastination at this point.
… to ask you about it regularly. 🙂
but I’ve always believed all of your diaries to be non-fiction; are you now telling me that you’ve made them all up out of thin air?
Your idea sounds like a sound idea for a novel. So … get writing already. 😉
the life of a horror-novelist. 🙂
This is terrible, and sadly more to be expected. I can’t imagine when National Guard troops come in, with training and many having recent experience that is not at all what we’d want along our borders. Heard a pretty ok border patrol guy on PRI being interviewed about the Prez’s plan, and he panned it nicely but totally. This sort of thing was one of the things he mentioned.
I don’t know what to make of the U.S. right now; what with the English-only pandering bills getting passed and other mainstream stupidity being spewed from congressional press releases, I’m feeling more solidarity with the world than the country of my birthplace. I know a few people in the Border Patrol, they are not excited about this plan, especially when they see their own budgets being cut. Sigh… at least they haven’t outlawed wine! (whine?) 😉
I agree. When I think of the myth I was fed as a kid about the wonderfulness of this country, in contrast to so much I’ve seen and learned since then, it makes me ill. I keep buggin my spouse to see if we can go to Canada because his granddad went there from Scotland. I’m only half serious – I love the country, but feel less and less connected to the government, which worries me.
That disconnect is exactly what the wingers have been working on for many years. It makes corporate ascendancy so much easier if we are all suspicious of each other, and willing to consign each other into the most desparate and dehumanizing circumstances.
Ah, but rest and relax. It is too late to think through the night on these things. Maybe you can see the stars where you are. The earth, at least, is yet beautiful, and there are many good people who value what you do.
a self-imposed moratorium on blogging for the weekends for that very reason (to stop and smell the sage), but the reason I’m here at the moment is for the last part of your final sentence. 🙂
The star-gazing in Tucson is among the best in the world, I’m sitting on my porch at the moment and can see a glimpe of their magnitude, perhaps I’ll shut the lights and the laptop in a moment and bask in their brilliance.
(can you tell Italy is starting to have an effect? hehe)
Sounds like you had a long day … starting w/ work this am.
it wasn’t too bad. I don’t mind the working bit when I do it alone in a casual setting. My biggest complaint with the workplace is the environment (shared space), so today was productive. Plus, anytime I get to sleep an extra 2-3 hours in the morning is the closest to vacation as I’ll get for awhile.
I just opened another cafe.
My spousal other having scrubbed the bathtub, I”m going to say goodnight. Tomorrow is planting, and the joy of new beginnings that will come of it.
Bye, all.
the “quitting” project.
