Got sore muscles from doing too much stuff Friday and yesterday so will probably take it relatively easy; mainly put away clothes, grocery shop, etc.
Spouse and I semi-monitoring the Bay To Breakers race in San Francisco — it’s huge! By the time the folks at the back of the pack reach the starting line, the elite runners have all finished. 🙂
Actually, think I’ll go back to bed for about half an hour first…
I’m in Hawaii, can you tell? 🙂 I might actually get a breakfast that looks like that, but it is still really early here for the restaurants (if not for my stomach).
DH is attending a meeting so I came along on frequent flyer miles. It’s a lot of flying for a few days, and I don’t get to see much of him, but how many chances do you get to visit Hawaii in any capacity?
As of yet unbowed by rain
(what am I, a weed?)
I turn my leaves to the sunny West
In hopes that heaven’s blazing orb
Might reverse its course at my behest
Alas, ’tis not to be
That daylight doth reverse for me
What recourse have I but to enter my familiar plea,
O Man of Alabama?
Please wave your thundering newspaper, thus
And send thine surfeit of life-giving heat
To those of us in the stormy East
‘Tis near Memorial Day! Kaloo, kalay!
Yet, thusly we just about drown — with snow comin’ too!
Your wenchly pondly mate, alas,
Is driven to cry. Boo hoo hoo hoo!
Aargh!

Hope everyone’s enjoying a far more pleasant day weatherwise, than your mountain pond-mate & her severely disturbed feline companions.
Indeed we are, o luscious one. Then, by tomorrow, some clearing & real warmth.
So nice to see you on this dismal, dismal day. How are you doing? Allergic discomfort taken care of?
(Or shouldn’t I ask?)
I found what looks like the marks of spider fangs (!) on my arm. Whatever it was the antihistamine took care of it. And if not it’s a really cool cause of death, don’t you think? Better than just slipping in the shower or something. 🙂
Occasionally, I consider the possiblity of wild animal attack — not outside the realm of reality in these parts — & think, well, better to go that way than in any number of others far more typical nowadays (such as death by boredom).
Glad you’re feeling better, though! Premature death may have a tinge of romance to it, but it’s generally a tremendous drag for loved ones.
Oh wondrous, wild and lovely maiden
The paper has thus been ladened
The excess of light will shift your way
That is if I have my say.
The sunlight will shimmer and you can frolic
Nasty old weather, be gone, be away.
Because I have the newspaper, and fan I will
It has to be lovely on WW’s hill.
Oh my, FM — your invocation makes me absolutely teary-eyed!
How kind of you to enforce your awesome powers yet again on my behalf.
& here I thought folks like you rested on the seventh day ..
Wonderful poem, WW … sorry to hear that snow is forecast… yikes! Stay warm with the kitties and know that it must end sometime soon! What’s that still cliché? “Into each life a few raindrops must fall?” Well sounds like you’ve had your fair share, so they must leave soon!
Catch you soon… I better get some work done around here (for job… talk about arrrggh!)
The police in Utrecht has disclosed a new arrest made last wednesday of an Aruban youth, an acqaintance of Joran van der Sloot. The age, name and location of the person has not been published. Joran van der Sloot is still considered a suspect in the case of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. Different arrests have been made in the case in the past year, all suspects have been released due to lack of evidence.
An Aruban newspaper reported that the unnamed suspect was an acquaintance of Joran van der Sloot and was seen with Natalee during her visit to the island with other members of her senior class. He was reportedly seen with scratches on him the day after the Alabama teen disappeared.
Netherlands national broadcast NOS reported that the suspect was arrested in the city of Utrecht and was of Aruban nationality.
The air was warm, the wind was playing a lullaby through the leaves, and best of all we came across some blackberry bushes we hadn’t seen before so if we’re lucky this summer, we’ll get some berries before the birds pick them clean. The flowers were past their prime but I’m not about to criticize them for that.
Just popping in to say hi to all, and avoiding that work that I must finish here very soon. Hope all is well down your way FM, and that you are relative free this weekend! Funny, but I did some laundry earlier, and had to laugh when I picked up the detergent bottle … it was full … of detergent!
Maybe catch you folks later, but it looks like I’m in for at least 3 hrs of work today… oh well, it’s cloudy and cool and trying to rain anyway, so glad I got stuff done yesterday when it was sunny and much nicer.
Hey there O! I was still scratching my head… I had stamen right, but was forgetting the anthers. Thanks for refreshing the old memory there.
Still rainy up there today? Threatening (tentatively) to do that here as well… gray day out there for us. And probably will rain since I put laundry out to dry a couple of hours ago!
Sent some more coneflowers and sea holly off to a new home today, so the freebie flats are almost empty now… time to dig up and pot up some more!
FM’s extra strong fanning for WW has made all the difference up here in Ottawa. The sun is coming and going, so that’s how I know it’s from his fanning … 😉 And they’re still calling for rain today too. I’ve got to get going and get out there for a while. See you all later tonight! Good luck w/ that report IVG — yuck. I feel for ya bud!
Good to hear you’re getting a smidgen of sun! Go make the best of it while you can … I think I need to lie down a bit, get my mind into work mode and dispatch with that work so I can get back here later tonight. See you then!
You and Andi have the greatest, most photo productive walks I know. Always appreciate you two sharing the wealth with the rest of us… and I’m sure that rain bound Olivia really appreciates it too! 🙂
Thank you! I’ve really got to run here — the sun has just disppeared again, and I think I might have missed it … I want to get some new pix myself. Have a wonderful day, and see you later!
oddly enough we are much more likely to argue that the other one takes better photos — it’s either humility or a desire to take the pressure off oneself.
I should have such problems, lol. I’d be hard pressed to pass judgment there (and don’t want to, btw!) but I think you’re both consummate chroniclers of nature’s beauties.
<sigh> I’d much rather hang around here, but I’ve put off the inevitable long enough… off to rest 20 minutes then back to work!
I decided to take some of my advice to you, and I took my lens I usually only use for portraits (85mm f1.8) and treated everything as a portrait. It was fun.

I told her I loved her, and that her body was old and tired, but mine was still OK, so come into me. And so she did. That was all I wished for when she went… peacefully, swiftly, and with me holding her. Sniffle.

I couldn’t get that centering thingy to work either Diane, oh well. Sorry to be grey today, it just kinda fits my mood. Oh well… I’ll be fine eventually, I’m just missing my sweet lil girl. Please send her good wishes as she travels into the cosmos.
I know only too well how hard and sad this is but in each of the three times I’ve gone through it, after the initial sadness I’ve always been comforted and really gladdened by having gotten to share such well-lived lives.
May you find peace in the presence of her spirit within you.
For you and Jasper:
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Oh {{sherm}}, I’m so sorry for your loss. I know there will always be a Jasper-sized hole in your heart, but I am glad to know you were with her for her peaceful passing.
I recall your talking about Jasper having had a close call a few weeks ago and was touched by the depth of your love and devotion to her. True, you knew this was coming, but it is never, ever easy when it happens, all foresight notwithstanding. Still, it sounds like she went in the best possible way, in your arms knowing she was deeply loved. I hope you can take some small comfort in knowing that she felt secure enough in your arms to just let go and spare you and herself any further suffering. She was obviously a very sweet and wise dog and will never be replaced in your heart … there may be other dogs to come, but they will never replace her… they will follow in her pawsteps and honor her memory.
Please know that you have our most sincere good thoughts and condolences in this time … keep the good times in your heart and mind, for you will never forget her … no she you. She’s at peace now….
Thank you to everyone, above and below, for your kind and supportive words. I very much appreciate them. And yes IVG, I do take comfort in holding her and her feeling secure enough to let go and not have to fight it anymore. Thank you for reminding me of that.

Hi everyone, hope you are all having a great day…can anyone give me the code for centering pictures.
So what are you all planning for the day.

Have a pleasant day!
HTML code in a diary should be the same as centering text ::

Hi Oui, how are you, it’s been so long since we have visited in the cafe, how’s life in the Netherlands.
I tried the ‘center’ code but it shows the words like your’s did, is there anyway around that.

I just tried the HTML code in my previous diary and it works well.

It is 11:21 am. That is anything but early. I just finsihed a new podcast.

Don’t laugh to much at my voice. I am in the middle of some allergy mess and my voice sounds like $)*() to me.
Doesn’t your voice always sound like $)*() to you though? Mine does. Who is that nasally person and where did my lovely resonant voice go?
LOL True
I’m in Hawaii, can you tell? 🙂 I might actually get a breakfast that looks like that, but it is still really early here for the restaurants (if not for my stomach).
Great to hear you’re looking forward to breakfast in such a beautiful place, Emma Anne.
Lucky you, what island are you on? Well have a great day there and I will be thinking of you in my favorite place on earth.
DH is attending a meeting so I came along on frequent flyer miles. It’s a lot of flying for a few days, and I don’t get to see much of him, but how many chances do you get to visit Hawaii in any capacity?
Hi Emma Anne. I’m dressed and ready for the beach. Although the nearest one to me is about a 4 hour drive.

Oh, you poor thing to have suffered thusly! And what a lovely poem, WW. Are you really supposed to get snow?!
Indeed we are, o luscious one. Then, by tomorrow, some clearing & real warmth.
So nice to see you on this dismal, dismal day. How are you doing? Allergic discomfort taken care of?

Snow in May is the ultimate cruelty!
I found what looks like the marks of spider fangs (!) on my arm. Whatever it was the antihistamine took care of it. And if not it’s a really cool cause of death, don’t you think? Better than just slipping in the shower or something. 🙂
Absolutely — very Gothic.

Also, as far as I know, you’ve never shared such magical verse with the cafe’ before.
Those snoozin’ froggies don’t know what they’re missing!
🙂
Alas, the rain’s suddenly abated. Must attend to the chores.
Boo hoo hoo hoo.
Enjoy your chores and I’ll be fanning away. 🙂
My deepest thanks, o wondrous weather wizard of the balmy South.
Be sure to take your necessary rest, though!
See you soon.
I’ll have you know, my dear FM, that the clouds are parting & the birds are singing for the first time today.
You’re one amazing individual.
Off I go. ..
Sorry just got back from fanning and all.
Enjoy again.

That’s lovely Andi, with the green and little sticky outie things. You can see I know a lot about plants. 🙂
That term sounds fine to me. I guess if we want to know more we’ll have to wait for IVG or Olivia to show up.
Yea but in my case by the time they get going, I’m already tired and past coherent.
I’ll stick with the little sticky outie thing. Sounds so much nicer than a scientific term.
Not touching that, no how, no way. 🙂

We have walked these few acres for a little over a quarter of a century, but Olivia opened our eyes or lenses.
Thank you! I’ve really got to run here — the sun has just disppeared again, and I think I might have missed it … I want to get some new pix myself. Have a wonderful day, and see you later!
just go ahead and encourage him to show off and one-up me. I don’t mind, not a bit, nope, doesn’t bother me at all.
LOL… I love the smell of fierce competition in the afternoon …

Thanks.
But how about those blackberry flowers? ; )
I decided to take some of my advice to you, and I took my lens I usually only use for portraits (85mm f1.8) and treated everything as a portrait. It was fun.
That’s great! I’m glad you had fun.
And yes the blackberry flowers are AWESOME! [{{{Andi}}}&:*]
Thanks.

Only if you don’t plant any around your new house. Poison ivy is on the upper left hand side.

Sweet wishes to you Jasper girl. You were dearly loved, and always will be. My sympathy to your family.
Sorry about the sharks. As we cubbies fan say, wait till next year — and next year and next year and …
and next year… ad infinitum.
The good thing is that the winner of this cup will deserve it. Unlike some other times like with the Bolts last season… season before the lock out.

But you can use this time to practice taking candids by documenting your cat’s life.
I’m back. Did Janet mention flirting?
My Kitty is flirting with danger. She keeps going after the bulbs SallyCat gave us. She’s insisting on attacking them. They’re on our “deck” at the apts. Can’t wait to plant them in our yard so they’ll be safe from … “When black cats attack”.
I just saw about you house. Congrats.
Catnip is your answer. Get your cat in another state and it will forget about the bulbs. 🙂
my cat is always stoned.
If it’s natural nothing you can do. If it from other substances, make your cat go cold turkey. Won’t care about no bulb then.
She did once eat a small sampler stash… but we didn’t see anything too different about her that afternoon.
She has Oregon Organi Catnip in her happy jalapeno. Right now she’s on her box (of more to come) with her ears back and her tongue out a bit. Now… she’s drinking out of my water…. ACK
Cats.
I tried catnip with Cat a couple of times, but she doesn’t like it.
OMG I just realized. I’ve got a southern baptist cat.
Does that mean she’ll pick up snakes?? 🙂 Or is that those PenaCATstols? 🙂
I don’t know. I guess it means she does what she wants, but in a non altered state. Very metaphysical. 🙂
I have a Catholic cat – she loves catnip but she feels guilty about it.
From what I’ve seen about most southern baptist cats they indulge, but then deny. Guilt or denial.
Geez I’m glad I’ve got George too. He doesn’t give a damn one way or another. 🙂
How are you doing today? 🙂
I’m doing fine. Has your weather improved any?
Surry down to the new lounge.
