Leaning Canadian I found it funny on some things. I’ll give you two questions and just give me the answers without explanations. Such as, the—–and a——-.
What is the national animal of Canada and what is a beer belly called.
Now if the site you gave me is right, it’s going to so much fun to be Canadian.
There’s no such thing as molson muscle in american. But in some part of the country beaver has other meanings. It a rude term for, ahem, female nether regions.
Shouldn’t have asked the question and probably went to far. Sorry.
I’m trying but I don’t think I’ll make it. There was an album or song called They All Come Out At Night. I think that’s it with my case. I go to sleep and people start time warping and talking rusty spoons.
Darn here I thought maybe I’d contribute to your knowledge… I don’t know that I’ve seen toque spelled before in print, but you could be right on that too.
Well, I’ll have to see if I can remember any others.
of the day there. I don’t have much energy with high temp (88) and what seemed like high humidity. So no deck work. Some T-storms in the area, so we were getting rain. Seems like it’s quit now.
Sounds like we’ll be in town through tomorrow night. Might celebrate QV’s birthday at the sky prairie bar high atop the Hotel Donaldson.
I must confess that if I actually make pancakes, it is more likely to be for dinner than for breakfast.
Now that GG is in re-runs we need to find one of those summer fill-in shows on the WB to watch. I assume they’re having a couple of those this summer, as usual. What was that one last summer? Summerland?
Hm, I don’t think I’ve watched Summerland or any of the WB filler shows. I usually resort to cable. USA has gotten pretty good about running new shows in the summer. I’m looking forward to The 4400 and The Closer (that’s the one with Kyra Sedgwick). And, of course, my favorite show, Deadwood, comes back soon.
That just doesn’t seem right, maryb. If you find anything good on the networks, let me know. Also, I’ll be watching reruns of Bones, which I missed all season due to scheduling conflicts.
OK, I can talk GG if you don’t want to acknowledge the attempted coup.
I didn’t watch because (a) I wasn’t home and (b) I’d already seen it. But there were a lot of episodes this season I didn’t see, so I’m not totally averse to reruns in the off season. I just hate reruns during the season.
Watching the Giants and Cardinals, with the Cards leading, 6-2. Matt Morris is pitching ok against his old mates, but in the top of the 5th, after Pujols launched on high – deep – caught by Steve Finley in front of the 421 mark (yes, that’s right, 421 in right center), the Giants’ fielding fell apart, allowing two more runs.
Saw last night’s game at the park. 9-2 Giants, as they scored 6 runs on 3 hits in the 8th inning. Otherwise, the game was a surreal combination of traditional Cardinal baseball – good pitching, usually good fielding and baserunning – with the Bonds-Pujols home run derby sideshow. And who hit last night’s only homer? Omar Vizquel, of course. Go figure.
Now 6-4. Randy Winn just spilled somebody’s beer next to the right field foul pole.
No, but Mike Krukow on the Giants’ broadcast pointed out that he managed to stay in the rundown long enough to allow Edmonds to go from first to third.
Sure is. I’d say it was nice to have a shortstop that can play first base, but the Giants don’t appear to have one.
Say, I’ve been bitten by a crazy idea in the past several days. We’re getting to the end of the Little League season (actually about two more weeks), and I’m trying to figure out what the Kid GRs will do next year. Kid GR #2 will play machine pitch next year, and she’ll do just fine. The question is Kid GR #1. She’ll be 9, meaning she could play a second year in machine pitch (easier for me, since they’d both be on the same team, and if I coach again, I’d have them both), or she could advance to the first level of live pitch.
Well, you see, she has a pretty good arm, and a pretty cerebral approach to the game (don’t know where she got the first, but I suspect I know where the second came from). Better still, she’s a southpaw. I’m beginning to think this kid could learn to pitch. I can see it now. Kids on other teams could be saying, “Oh, no — aren’t they the team that has that left-handed girl?”
Yes, it was. The rookie Issy got for the last out is a pretty bright young prospect, but in the end the wily old veteran was too much for him. good ballgame.
the owners of the Kansas City, Royal$ would like to thank all the St. Louis fan$ who filled up Kauffman Stadium last weekend….For $ome reason being 10 & 30L and seeing all those St. Louis Cards. beat up on a AAA team, make$ $t. Louians feel good.
Hi all. It’s been a nice evening with my kid. We had a good talk about boys, crushes and teen pressure to get a boyfriend, all the while playing a good video game.
I read in the local paper today that 2 out of 3 Oakland 6th graders claim they could get in a gun within 24 hours. What a frightening statistic is that? FWIW, my kid is in 6th grade.
Rapport is what I am all about. I really regretted not being able to talk to my ‘rents about anything, so I have gone the opposite, I encourage my kid talk about everything and I make sure never to express judgment or negativity. If I don’t like the way something is going, I just try to show her why her decisions could have bad consequences. But, boy oh boy, it is a fine line. I can now understand why my parents never involved themselves with my life! ;>)
It’s like that great diary we had recently on different parenting types. I do try to be a friend, but I also try to be a parent. So I have limits, but I also want to be someone that she trusts and confides in. Kids won’t confide if they know punishment looms over them. So, I made a rule that if she told me it would be a lot (and I mean a lot) less painful than if I found out through a third party. I explain my rules and I try really hard not to play that “because I told you” game. Sheesh, if I had known it would be so bloody hard…. Nah, I woulda done it all over. :>)
Do you still live a rural life or do you live in Fargo? I’ve often contemplated getting a spot of land up your way, but must admit that my New Englander upbringing and current Cali lifestyle make me afraid of setting roots anywhere near the midwest. Tell me I’m wrong. :>)
Well, the “midwest” covers a lot of territory, and a wide variety of people and cultures. For example my home area is nearly all of Scandavian origins. Further west closer to Bismarck, more German-from-Russia. Attitudes, politics very greatly. My home county voted blue, always votes blue, for example.
“Do you still live a rural life or do you live in Fargo?”
Both, since I have family and farming interests in the rural area. But mostly I live in Fargo. Too much of the time I live in Fargo…
“I’ve often contemplated getting a spot of land up your way, but must admit that my New Englander upbringing and current Cali lifestyle make me afraid of setting roots anywhere near the midwest.”
Well, we’ve got lots of out of state people moving into the area, mostly the major cities.
Any rural school district would be delighted to have another student, since they get paid a sum per student by the state.
The schools are closing due to lack of students, not lack of funding. For example my home county had a population of 4 thousand something a couple of decades ago, and is now 2 thousand something.
But then what’s crazy is my hometown, now 117 people has fiber optic, so high speed internet, ain’t that something?
You can buy a 3 bdr rambler in my hometown for 17,000 to 20,000, that’s not downpayment, that’s total cost.
“Tell me I’m wrong. :>) “
Just becasue generalizations are nearly always wrong.
Come for a visit some time and check it out. Use my email anytime you have questions on this.
Shouldn’t have concentrating on reading upstream so much or I coulda at least waved at FM… oh well. I think I might have to save this page so I can use it to study when I take my becoming a Canadian test!
Howdy there rowdy crowd. Just waiting for the storms to blow in here (shouldn’t be much longer).
Super easy mystery plant tonight, eh? Heck, these haven’t even gotten into the ground yet and they’re happy here.
How ya doing NDD? Saw it was kinda warmish up your way too… we got a nice red line of storms marching this way. Just in time for the new stuff in the garden. Love late night storms…
a shock to the system. Then some rain about dark. Didn’t amount to too much though, maybe .25″ we need it though, the lawn here in the city was looking not so green.
See? That was a no brainer, as I’d hoped. Portulaca grandiflora “Sundial Mix” … great stuff dada, you should plant some out there. I think it would do well for ya and it self seeds pretty generously too.
Oww, on that one, not so much. Will do best in full or partial sun. But if you have like sandy or poor soil around a driveway, walkway or some other sunny place, it will probably do well for you there. Over time you’ll even find it coming up from cracks in the sidewalk. So think about those potentially sunny spots, unless they don’t exist.
New Cafe open. Clean tables and floors.
Lets start messing up the place.
Ready for your questions (I think … 🙂
OK
Leaning Canadian I found it funny on some things. I’ll give you two questions and just give me the answers without explanations. Such as, the—–and a——-.
What is the national animal of Canada and what is a beer belly called.
Now if the site you gave me is right, it’s going to so much fun to be Canadian.
beaver and Molson muscle?
There is so much potential in that line for people with dirty minds, but since I’m a very pure soul I won’t go there. 🙂
… if you’re connecting cute beavers and beer bellies … 😉
I was connecting the words. Might be an American thing. 🙂
… in american? 😉
There’s no such thing as molson muscle in american. But in some part of the country beaver has other meanings. It a rude term for, ahem, female nether regions.
Shouldn’t have asked the question and probably went to far. Sorry.
… it’s the same up here FM LOL … 🙂
You don’t have to apologize, I was just giving you a hard time. 😉
I was so clever. There’s no competing with Olivia. 🙂
… as the national animal and not learn all the assorted meanings FM … 😉
So, for you it’s the bald eagle? 😉
I trying to think of something, but can’t. 🙁
Ahem, that would be a shaved yeti….not a bald eagle.
I’ll have to remember that … LOL. How’s the RL treating ya?
It’s treating me just fine, O. How are you doing? Did it ever stop raining up there?
Even had some sun. Sun tomorrow too. It’s a miracle, I think. 🙂
Unless your from the Himalayas. Wouldn’t in this country it be shaved Sasquatch.
Too difficult to say.
And spell. Took me forever to find it on goggle. 😉
another word for couch = ?
another word for tennis shoes = ?
another word for a stocking cap = ?
FM, you must know these to travel in Canada.
You wouldn’t mean Chesterfield, Runners and toque would you?
I thought those terms were used all over. 🙂
Impressive FM … 🙂
Since you made me an honourary Canadian, I’ve even started spelling some words different. Hah. 🙂
Today at your site you spelled, saviour.
Next we’ll have to tackle that accent LOL. 😉
I wasn’t going to mention it about the site, but I wondered if you noticed. Damn you’re too sharp. Now just knowing when to add eh?
And wrt to the eh, you can’t really go wrong. As long as it’s at the end. And you can identify inflection by using or not using ? marks etc.
ya know what a hosehead, or hoser is?
Of course I do. Me. Bob and Doug hung around every now and then.
What olivia said, and then some… it’s going to be tough to stump ol’ FM now.
Especially with the site Olivia gave me and the urban dictionary. I feel skates on my feet and alcool flowing through my blood. 🙂
… on Cdn-iana LOL.
Give me time. But I’ll have to be a Southern Canadian. I’ll spread the word of KD and alcool down to these parts.
Give him a little shock seeing you this late? 🙂
I’m trying but I don’t think I’ll make it. There was an album or song called They All Come Out At Night. I think that’s it with my case. I go to sleep and people start time warping and talking rusty spoons.
I think I’ll go to bed. It’s scary here at night.
See ya’ll, eh?
You do the country proud … 😉
Sleep well.
lived in MB most of a couple of years… probably back when you were in gradeschool, ha!
Darn here I thought maybe I’d contribute to your knowledge… I don’t know that I’ve seen toque spelled before in print, but you could be right on that too.
Well, I’ll have to see if I can remember any others.
Ask in my speaking Italian with Mary I cheated. Olivia gave me a site to look at today. It’s amazing how much you can read while you’re put on hold. 🙂
How was your day?
of the day there.
Isn’t that where you and Boston Joe went?
for an old geezer your memory is still pretty good.
Did that Canadian site teach you when to use the expression, “Fkn eh, man!” ?
I don’t remember that. The food list was long enough as it is.
Who knew there was a completely different language up there. What am I talking about. It’s a completely different language four hours from here.
Although not too high … 🙂
I couldn’t find the view from the roof top bar, some 4-5 stories up.
Hi everyone — is there still cheesecake? Plus, is maryb around to comisserate? It’s our first post-season Gilmore Girls rerun tonight.
Hi Izzy. How’re ya doing?
I’m doing pretty good, FM. You? Sorry it took me so long to get back to you.
Don’t worry bout it Izzy. RL always takes precedence.
Just glad to head you’re doing good. 😉
I’m more interested in congratulating you on your attempted coup. BooMan better watch out!
LOL — so… you saw the coup?
I was glad to see that when the ancien regime was reinstated they did not take their revenge on the upstarts 😉
Can we have pancakes tomorrow?
Sure, why not? Although it’ll be more of a brunch in most of our time zones. Plus, over here I don’t think we’ll have that lemon problem. <shudder>
I must confess that if I actually make pancakes, it is more likely to be for dinner than for breakfast.
Now that GG is in re-runs we need to find one of those summer fill-in shows on the WB to watch. I assume they’re having a couple of those this summer, as usual. What was that one last summer? Summerland?

We won’t be able to talk about the summer shows then because I don’t have cable. 🙁
That just doesn’t seem right, maryb. If you find anything good on the networks, let me know. Also, I’ll be watching reruns of Bones, which I missed all season due to scheduling conflicts.
I know you can’t imagine life without cable 😉
I’ll look for a good trashy summer show on network. There’s bound to be one.
OK, I can talk GG if you don’t want to acknowledge the attempted coup.
I didn’t watch because (a) I wasn’t home and (b) I’d already seen it. But there were a lot of episodes this season I didn’t see, so I’m not totally averse to reruns in the off season. I just hate reruns during the season.
coup?
Sorry, I got side-tracked by the real world right after I posted! You’re lucky you still have “fresh” episodes! I should’ve saved some for summer.
zzzzz
Not yet KB. If I’m up this late then there hope for everyone.
I’m trying, I’m trying…
yawn
You’ll probably outlast me. I don’t think I have to much more time awake left.
Watching the Giants and Cardinals, with the Cards leading, 6-2. It’s nice having Matty Mo and Metheny in the same park with the old gang 😉
Cards just blew an attempted squeeze play. Something about how hard it is to bunt a 97-mph high fastball outside the strike zone.
and Rolen isn’t the best stealer…
No, but Mike Krukow on the Giants’ broadcast pointed out that he managed to stay in the rundown long enough to allow Edmonds to go from first to third.
that’s true but he DID have Jose Oquendo over at third base yelling at him what to do. It’s not like he had to think all by himself.
I’m not sure why I’m picking on Rolen — he IS my favorite player after all. And you can’t squeeze if the batter can’t bunt … maybe I’m tired?
As Duane Kuiper, former infielder and current Giants play-by-play announcer, just pointed out,
“David Eckstein seems to get every batter out by just about the same margin.”
It’s nice to have pitchers who can hit 😉
Sure is. I’d say it was nice to have a shortstop that can play first base, but the Giants don’t appear to have one.
Say, I’ve been bitten by a crazy idea in the past several days. The world can always use a good left handed pitcher. If she figures out that she doesn’t have to strike out every batter, she could be fearsome!
Issy is giving me ulcers this year …
sorry GR, but it was exciting at the end.
Yes, it was. The rookie Issy got for the last out is a pretty bright young prospect, but in the end the wily old veteran was too much for him. good ballgame.

Actually it was painful to watch.
No argument there, but you only had to watch for 3 games….were suffering over here til Oct.2.
Hi all. It’s been a nice evening with my kid. We had a good talk about boys, crushes and teen pressure to get a boyfriend, all the while playing a good video game.

hello and goodnight!
Howdy there rowdy crowd. Just waiting for the storms to blow in here (shouldn’t be much longer).

Super easy mystery plant tonight, eh? Heck, these haven’t even gotten into the ground yet and they’re happy here.
Ya you betcha!
Just told o I was moving down here, and what do I find, beauty, great!
Steee–rikr One!
How ya doing NDD? Saw it was kinda warmish up your way too… we got a nice red line of storms marching this way. Just in time for the new stuff in the garden. Love late night storms…

what are they?
I think … portulaca/moss rose?
See? That was a no brainer, as I’d hoped. Portulaca grandiflora “Sundial Mix” … great stuff dada, you should plant some out there. I think it would do well for ya and it self seeds pretty generously too.
Cheers!
Cause I got a lot of it…until the late afternoon…so full sun stuff suffers.

Where I’ll be hanging out tomorrow night
larger
larger, close up of plant life
stricken w/ a spotty connection for some unknown reason…so I may vanish into the ether at anytime…
That’s too bad … I found some great links today that I wanted to show you … They’ll wait 😉
Take care! {{{d}}}
It’s been on again, off again all day. Now I’m up in the studio where I can ‘ride’ somebody else’s wifi…least till they wise up and secure it. :{)
Late night cafe needs dada!
I’ll post them in the next cafe. 🙂
as you fly off into the ether there … will be glad to see you when you re-materialize. Until then…
I’m having a hard time getting this one to open?
And IVG and NDD you can repost those two pix?
Have at it!!!
Sure ting, boss. Though I’ve got a real lush one to put up first, hehe. I’ll bring back the pink a bit later.
… here. Please check your recommend status and adjust accordingly. Thanks!
