May the 4’s be with you
It’s really creepy. Is this the creepy cafe?
It truly is all my fault. I’ll be a bit more judicious about posting some of my more esoteric links, lol.
You can hurl the wine bottle at me whenever you feel like it!
I linked … er, I mean, froggybottom linked to the wiki entry (click on green font Salad Fingers under pic).
I was chuckling all day thinking about this cafe tonight. How crazy does that make me?! LOL
that I was right out of my head, he said I need treatment or I’d be better off dead … that I was the type that was most inclined, when out of his sight, to be out of my mind and he said I was nuts, no more ifs or ands or buts…
I sang that to myself from memory. So now you know. Joni Mitchell version is the best, though I quite like Bette Midler’s one from the 70’s.
Earlier tonight. The Woodland Garden area on Woodland Ave. aka, north side of our house.
Do you have ivy growing up the wall there? I wanted to ask you about that …
It’s really come into its own the past couple of years. Originally (about 4 yrs ago I think?) we picked up a whole flat of hardy ivy cheap at a plant clearance at Lowes and just stuck it all over in the ground out there. It’s a nice groundcover and has recently started climbing the stucco. Good eye there!
I’ve got it covering half the house … and I get all manner of flack from family and friends about it. They say it’s going to ruin the brick. So whenever I see a fellow ivy-grower I feel a kindred connection. π
Yeah, my sister really clucks at us for having the ivy too.. but I figure by the time we get the outside painted, we can just pull it down, chop it up and propagate more to replant. Tough stuff. Love it.
We learned to hate ivy when it nearly strangled a big live oak in our yard. It also began to infest the root ball of a Canary Island palm tree. We’ve radically reduced the ivy in our yard.
I take it that you don’t get hard freezes out your way… that has kept ours under control I think. And most of it actually serves as ground cover, with just those bits going up the house so far.
No hard freezes here (Peninsula south of San Francisco). Every couple of years the temperature will fall below freezing once or twice around Christmas, but it never freezes hard. There’s occasionally snow on the local peaks (around 1000′ elevation), but I don’t know that snow has ever been recorded at sea level here.
Our climate is amazingly mild — Canary Island palms are pretty tolerant of cool weather, but they won’t take a hard freeze. We also have several Coast Redwoods (sequoia sempervirens, the ones that grow to colossal sizes along the north coast of California), which don’t tolerate a lot of heat. I’ve become spoiled (though we did have an awful lot of rain this winter).
That said, while the California live oaks may be naturals, the rest of the trees I’ve mentioned were undoubtedly planted.
so that explains how it could really be a pest for you. I can remember a lot of things that grew rampant in FL that otherwise we’d think were cool up here. Winters are good for dampening the “enthusiasm” of some plants up here, ivy in our case. π
But redwoods and live oaks, oh my! Very cool.
Yer gettin’ as twisted as the rest of us…Ha! The plan’s working.
That’s a hoot… I’ve been there for a while, bud. Nice to fall into like company though! I like it around these parts in case ya didn’t notice.
I do hope Mary recovers fully and doesn’t click the link.
See, you’re influence is far reaching — spans internation borders and many times zones … LOL π
Since you seem to have this body paint thing going on, I found the perfect link … LOL π
me likee…have ya seen this one? Zodiac symbols… pretty cool.
Guess ‘Chester’ missed Miss Kitty…eh.
… for those of us so inclined … π
wouldn’t have want to miss out on all that now… question is; will the content of them thar links lull me to sleep later this evening, or keep me awake all night.
and certainly can’t be the cause of nightmares…:{)
Hey, ya gotta a fax? or ya gonna make me do the picto-sketch gig.
No fax here at the domicile. But I could pick up a fax at my local UPS store where I have a mailbox. I don’t have their fax number at hand tonight, but I could email it to you in the morning, so whatever seems easier to you will be finef with me also.
see if that’ll work for ya. I’ll try to get it done tomorrow.
That should work too. I’ll won’t be leaving town until Thursday morning sometime, that’d be late morning more likely.
… amazing!
Here’s a couple more:
Sagittarius
Cancer
I took a few with flash tonight … here’s one I kind of like.

Yeah, I like it too. There are always some details that show up in flash that don’t in daylight, like those little hairs on the blossom.
Used the flash! A lot more of the fine stuff is visible.
ideas, of course…
the flash. I agree about the depth of detail you can get, even if you know it’s not natural lighting. I like a lot of those shots, even though I try to do almost all my pics in ambient light.
Columbine taken w/ flash … The inner yellow bits just popped! Thanks NDD!
and is that a water drop on the end of one petal reflecting a spot of light back at us?
Think of a jester’s cap, with the tassels? The petals resemble that. I’ll have to find a ‘full’ view …
full flower w/ ‘tassels’
What variety is that one? I want one or two or three…
Loving that pic O, love that purple!
… just checked my landscape plan to see if the full name was listed and it’s not. I’ll have to do some google research ;)… I do know that these guys are growing everywhere — very prolific. I can collect some seed heads for you … getting them to you might be the problem …
I’m impressed. I should that here, once I go around with my notebook and write down everything that has been planted here. Just thinking about cataloguing all that stuff makes me laugh. In a kind of, omg, slackerly way that even FM would appreciate.
Oh, those pesky seed exchange issues! Well if you ever do figure it out let me know… it’s a gorgeous one!
… I’ve got it scanned. π And I have a word doc w/ all the plants listed w/ care instructions / when next to divide etc., so I can search. There’s about 200 plants.
π
I’m going to go to the post office this week and inquire about the seed thing. I’m such a procrastinator. Or maybe we could just send them and see what happens?
then I’d know which pile the paper I’m looking for is in, right. And which pile is due for the burning barrel, etc. I could really use a program like that around here.
This was provided by the previous owner? If so, they were very serious gardeners. I like that idea a lot. Should we ever want/need to sell our house, I’d be doing the same thing, I expect. That is very cool.
Still think your surest bet for getting good datura seeds is to get them from Thompson and Morgan. There would be no customs hassles (I would expect, since they’re well known and commercial). But we always have tons of them around and we’re already weeding the white and the purple ones out of the beds furiously.
That plant developed a damn good reproduction scheme. Thorny pods nothing would touch and hundreds of seeds? Yup, we’ll be back they say every year.
Why do you have to live all the way down there (or me up here) LOL.
Do you think T&M would have those columbine plants? Seriously, they are so prolific IVG you could take tons of them … π
And yes, the previous owners were retired and spent every. single. hour. in the garden. Before we moved in, I spent some time w/ him (it was his garden) in the garden making notes and hearing all the stories — all the plants had names based on who gave them etc. They really loved it. And that’s why I’m a little stressed by it, b/c I can’t devote that much time w/ working all day.
our elderly gardener friend up the street. If anyone ever buys his place and does damage to his garden, there would be hell toupee.
My brains not coming up w/ anything … π
Are they difficult?
That photo reminds me of something, but I can’t think what…
How’s the IWC doing tonight? Ready for bed yet?
rude, crude and/or lewd enough for this crowd…so I’ll just say “Good night, and good luck…” (got to go watch Keith on the DVR before I toddle off to bed…)
KO was pretty good tonight. You’ll love the last segment, and Worst persons was great.
…Edward Scissorhands?
How’s tricks?
has cooled the place down. We had 88 and humidity today, so it was somewhat of a shock to the system. How goes it for you then, getting out the ocean a few more times before work kicks in?
Close to 90 with humidity piled on can be really uncomfortable! I’m just about ready to pull my portable out of the garage, since I’m sure we’re in for another super scorching summer.
Nope, can’t get to the beach since I’m now in the San Fernando Valley. No nice beaches in my vicinity. Instead I putter around my garden and have been taking pictures of flowers. I was planning a trip to Monterey this weekend, but realize it would be insanity since I’m starting work next week and I’m still not half done unpacking.
How are you tonight?
Are you familiar w/ the whole salad fingers thing from last night?
I think we already freaked Mary out with that, and I feel kind of guilty. Here… look away from evil twisted link and look at this instead!

Oh, and great to see ya MM!
Gorgeous flowers, IVG!!!
And I guess my eyes glazed over when olivia mentioned “the link.” I did check out the wiki entry, and it bothered me that no credit was given to Edward Scissorhands. I just like it when sources get credit. It’s all the college degrees, I guess. Does something to your mind, after a while.
I’m not sure I get the whole Salad Fingers thing, though. Was it a Hookah Lounge, by any chance? LOL
I was the culprit who, once he figured out (thx Olivia!) how to link to stuff, posted the original one that has freaked more than a few out. But damn, did I laugh hard when I loaded this cafe earlier!
Ok, thunder and lightning time for me for a bit… will be back…
Weather Nerd! LOL! Yup I just love weather. I’ve always been a closet weather lover, it started back in the 1990s just after we bought our house and it suddenly dawned on me that it hadn’t rained in years. I used to watch the weather report and get really PISSED that there was never any weather in Southern California. Then I moved to Florida for one year, and that’s when it really took hold. I became an armchair hurricane chaser. And now with this climate change thing, I’m totally hopeless! But what can I do?
Sounds like you got some great shots after you got home tonight. I’ll run over and take a peek in a minute.
this one hears the beginnings of rain and thunder here. Current radar shows some nice red/orange/yellow moving in, so I have to go observe for a bit on the porch.
Oh, MM… my absolute weather nerdiness conversion also came from living in FL (aka Death’s Waiting Room) too!
I’ll be stepping out for a bit here but leaving the site up, so I’ll be back in a bit, if for no other reason, than to say good night.
last nite’s cafe to the animations…I think the consensus is they’re a ‘bit twisted’…intriguing and entertaining, in a surreal sorta way.
Are you having bad weather this evening?
I better get some shut-eye. Since today was a tad more of a slacker day than I had anticipated. And tomorrow I have
long lists of stuff to chase down around town and purchase prior to the next trip up north, so good night everyone!
been blowing all day…gusts in 50 mph range. I think that’s the reason my dsl has been iffy…all the utilities in this neighbourhood are old and ‘hanging’ in the alleys…and MaBell, AKA: Qworst, doesn’t do very well on the maintenance side of things.
Did you get your dsl/broadband set up?
… but they would have just received the work order today (b/c monday closed). Hopefully by the w/e.
was an early start today. Be sure and set the ol’ zen alarm clock before you turn out the lights.
Be well, sleep sound.
G’night.
Peace
I’m following NDD and d and retiring for the evening.
IVG – I hope you enjoyed your storm. π
Sleep well!
It has been a very gentle, yet colorful set of thundershowers coming through. Perfect for the gardens, and nice rumbling in the distance. Steady, gentle, rain. Something to wish and dream for, come spring.
Makes these lil guys happy…

Night, all…
What’s with these creepy bartenders in the middle of the night? Nevermind, I’m not walking throught the door to deal with that one!
Can you help out a fellow American, who’s down on his luck?
