It’s Jim’s last day of school and then he’s off for the summer. I’m working hard on dealing with it — and I’m sure I’ll fail just like I do every year.
My sympathies – or lack of them. My spouse is still chained to his miscreants – er, students, until mid-June. I’m off until August.
However, we have to figure out some way to earn money this summer, or we will be selling cats, furballs, and pencils on the corner (no, nothing else on the corner, as has been suggested by unnamed persons). We’re missing a couple of months income so far this year, and belt tightening won’t quite do it.
So he’s still teaching, and I’m merely anxious at the moment. But sleeping late and enjoying it, anyway.
We’re (read: Jim is) lucky that the issue of income doesn’t come up — he hasn’t had a summer job in over 25 years. I hope you find something that both pays well and is enjoyable.
I’m sure I’ll get used to this some day — he’s only been a teacher for 30 years so I haven’t had nearly enough time yet.
It is nice to be sort of on the same calendar. I didn’t like it when he was working year’round and got time off only when I was teaching. Now if we could just work where our respective schools didn’t seem to deliberately use different calendars. But I’m not sure I want to be working at the same place. Nope. Don’t think that would work, either.
Musical cafe? Are you going to give us some great “Good Morning, People! ” music?
I’m sure you are a great musician. But sing/play softly, please. I have a tiny little mini migraine this morning, and the little noisy purple finches outside are music enough.
Yes but I think Lil Abner would be better for that. I haven’t seen that in years.
No I’m thinking old 30’s 40’s mega productions where all the froggies are dancing on the tables and the wall behind the bar opens and there’s a giant swimming pool with lilly pad and froggies are swimming in sync there.
We are still waiting for more storms, and a real rain. But at least the temperature is milder. Up in the 80’s yesterday, with humidity to match. Felt like we were back in Texas.
The heat and humidity out in Texas always used to kill me. Before I moved there, I thought it wouldn’t be as bad. I was very wrong. Glad I’m not in it anymore.
Was there for five years. I went to Austin a couple of times. The most memorable was to see Bonnie Raitt in some big park. I can’t remember the name of the park now. But it was hot. She was even complaining on stage about how hot it was.
The town I liked was New Braunfels. It was small back then.
Yes, New Braunfels is very pretty. Good food too, if you like German food.
But for my money, (and barbeque), I’d go to Lockhart, to the Kreuz market. Best brisket in the world, though the Salt Lick in Driftwood used to be a close second. Ymmm. And here I am stuck in yankeeland where barbeque is about like Manwhich in a can.
Ready for the long weekend? I have a snoozy CBtY recovering from a stomach bug today…he better be fully recovered for the meetup in Baltimore tomorrow!
this morning – unusually chipper and with a weird compulsion to use lots of !!!!!!!!s.
I hardly need this 16 oz. cup of fresh pressed coffee, but since I’ve been drinking it every day in the huge Cleveland mug the Indians have been winning again so I’m afraid to break the spell.
Cabin Girl, please take lots of pics of the meetup and post them!
It’s been too hot and buggy out to take new pics outside so here’s another one from that amazing lily my son sent me for Mother’s Day. With it’s splendiferous “inner bits” on display.
I would love to but this is the son who has no computer, doesn’t answer his phone, works all night long and sleeps until 2 PM. Which is why I have to physically go to Cleveland to see him.
LOL… why does that not surprise me that you’d have that reaction? See what you’ve done to all of our photography styles around here? We’re all inner bits obsessed now!
How’s it going up there today? Getting out early perhaps? Oh, oops, that’s right you had your holiday earlier in the week. Never mind. I’m leaving at 2:00 here today and can’t wait!
Hope I can stay awake long enough tonight to make it to the FBL late night… I conked out really early (for me) last night.
Yeah, about ready to pack it up here… of course got a last minute call from project manager wanting me to cull through some more stuff for a possible addition to the report. Sheesh… final is going out today and she knew I was leaving early… grrr… hate that.
Anyway, thx for the kind wishes and hope to pop in later tonight with more details. Ciao for now…
Me too, me too! I love the contrast of magenta and red. Leave it to Mother Nature to really know how to clash a color effectively. Bet the bees love it, too!
Just heard the Beach Boys are going to be in Vancouver, WA June 25/26. My son was so happy… but.. it’s 21 and over (WTF??) It says it’s in a park. So not sure why the age restriction.
If you know of any info as to why this is not a family event could you email me, please?
Heyas DJ… not that I know for sure, but I’d be betting there will be liquor/beer for sale on the grounds, thus the age restriction. Some outdoor shows that they give around here do that as well if people can either bring or purchase beer there.
Hope you’re doing well out there, pinkie-pie! Keep us posted on all the move excitement and such… sure hoping you land that job next week! Catch ya later, sweetie!
Yeah… that’s too bad about the age restriction. We were going to go. My son was all happy this morning about it. Kinda sucks that the Beach Boys would agree to such terms.
But that is the way of the world now.
I don’t care that there’s beer being sold – we just wanted to go cause Wes is a big fan of the BB.
As to the job – no word yet. But that’s okay.
Had to scramble yesterday about the house – today we’re going in to sign the title papers. We got word that if we didn’t sign by Friday, we’d los it (I’m so stressed about it it’s not even funny) due to Memorial day weekend (our contract says to be signed by the 30th. So this one realtor (not ours) was getting very pushy. I was planning on sending out notices that the realtor was going to use Memorial dates to screw a veteran family out of their earnest money and home. The realtor is the one sellign the house she bought 3 mos ago, remodeled and is quick selling in 3 weeks. Already my realtor’s company has blacklisted her from dealing with her again.
The stress has been unreal. Both houses had their drama.
I can’t wait to get out of here today (leaving at 1:30) and start my longish weekend! Morning shout outs to everyone… Andi, CG, FM, SN, IP, KS, KmC, and who did I miss? Damn that short term memory, well big friendly heyas to all anyway.
I’m hoping to go get me a new Weber grill today (the 30″ one w/wheels that I wanted and dada recommended). Then we’ll break it in starting tomorrow night!
Well you all know what else I’ll be scrambling to do this weekend, but also hope to get some new pics taken and up as well… we have Foxglove really coming into bloom right now and it’s impressive. The peonies are getting close but not quite there yet, unlike others’ who have already popped, but ours are in a shadier position.
Anyway, just wanted to say hey to all, and hoping everyone has a bearable day and a fantastic weekend doing whatever tickles your fancies. Hope to stop by later… we’ll see. Last night I was so exhausted I didn’t even turn the computer on, napped in my chair, then said this is ridiculous and went to bed at 11. First time I’ve missed the FBLs, but the rest was probably good for me… hehe.
We loved our Weber grill! I’m terrible with Weber Olympics 🙂
That’s where you pour a bunch of fluid, white fuel goes BOOOOM, and then toss a match on it and holler RUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN. Once I had to run and do hurdles at the same time (hurdle was a chair) They won’t let me light the Weber or old woodstove anymore. Not since the flash of lighting the woodstove down in Calif knocked me into the couch and the kids thought I had been killed. I was only stunned, I swear 🙂
We got a baby gas grill up here.. and we miss the Weber grilling. Definitely go with the chimney. Much better than “RUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN – whooompflash”
same here last night. Went to dinner w/ an old friend and his lady…tapas, dinner, and two bottles of wine later I was in no condition to interact w/ a computer…in bed by 10; a new record…Ha!
When you’re out there gardening, say hi to the “nymph”…
Yo backatcha, dada!
Cool pic ya got there… will have to tell me where that is sometime. None of those in our garden, that’s for sure, but I like it a lot when people can get creative and pull things like that off successfully.
I didn’t even have the excuse of wine last night… about 2-3 beers, one after dinner, and that did me in. I was lucky to be able to make it all the way through KO without snoozing (and I had taped it earlier!)
Maybe see ya tonight, man. Will keep you posted on the Weber purchase if that happens later today.
Hi, all. Big day around here today. My son leaves for five weeks bumming around Yurp with friends. He’s 22 and fancy free, what a blast! His dad and I are taking him to the airport soon, as if he’s still l0 and heading off to soccer camp. Yesterday, I followed him out the door and he turned around and laughed. “Need a hug, Mom?” he asked me. Mom did!
IF I get the job and I notice someone browsing or buying dective stories – I’ll be your pimpdaddy and tilt them towards your books. They have them ALL there. 😉
or so I’ve been told. I can understand that, and good thing he realizes that about his mom. He sounds like a great son to have! Look at it this way… at least he didn’t plan his departure during one of those times where you were off traveling for the book tour. I can imagine that would have been mega worry/fret time for you in that sort of situation.
Now you just have to wait for all the cool stories he’ll come back to tell you after the trip! Hope you have a great holiday weekend…
I’m chaining up the boran2 boy until he’s forty. Especially with the things he’s been telling me lately. Where do 7 year olds learn these things? Yesterday he told me to shut my mouth.
Yikes. I don’t know what to tell you about that. None of my kids has ever said anything like that to me and I’m not sure what I’d do. I think I’d probably give them that look that instantly lets them know it was a huuuuuuge mistake and hope an apology followed quickly.
It’s Jim’s last day of school and then he’s off for the summer. I’m working hard on dealing with it — and I’m sure I’ll fail just like I do every year.

Oh, sorry, I shouldn’t have said that.

Don’t think that would work, either.
Good morning Andi and Kidspeak.
Get up early so you could work on your musical cafe?
You just have to good of a memory. 🙂
Nope, up later than usual again, and I’m just getting my eyes open.
Musical cafe? Are you going to give us some great “Good Morning, People! ” music?
I’m sure you are a great musician. But sing/play softly, please. I have a tiny little mini migraine this morning, and the little noisy purple finches outside are music enough.
No we were talking about another one later on.
Sorry about your migraine. I hope it goes away very soon.
You’re doing a musical cafe? But what about FRT????
No CG. This is for much later. As if I would even try to upstage the FRT.
Mary asked me last night when I would do another one. So I’m just trying to decided what it will be about.
How about Fiddler on the Roof, with George in full costume singing “If I Were a Rich Man.”
Morning SN. Good idea, but it would have to be changed somewhat. Maybe, “If I Were a Rich Canine.”
Nah, just doesn’t work. 🙂
But just think of the possibilities for lyric changes:
“I’d fill my house with indoor plumbing like a northern dog
and get this old sofa off the porch…”
Yes but I think Lil Abner would be better for that. I haven’t seen that in years.
No I’m thinking old 30’s 40’s mega productions where all the froggies are dancing on the tables and the wall behind the bar opens and there’s a giant swimming pool with lilly pad and froggies are swimming in sync there.
A bit much maybe.
A bit over the top – which makes it PERFECT! Who gets to be Esther Williams? I’m thinking Andi.
Was there ever anyone else considered for Esther?
I dunno. I was never particularly turned on by Fernando Lamas.
But Andi, he looks mahhhhhvelous.
get Billy Crystal to play Esther.
It’s virtual, you can pick whoever ya want.
I was thinking about the first one. My intention was to give a small premise and have everyone make up, either a variation or a new one.
Have people throw in a different musical and storyline and go with the one getting the most comments.
Me, too. Though I miss Austin a lot.
I lived in San Antonio and have to admit I don’t miss it at all. It’s a wonderful city in many respects, but not for me.
Ditto. Lived there for 18 months. Nice to visit, but wouldn’t care to reside there again – and I wasn’t even in the military.
Was there for five years. I went to Austin a couple of times. The most memorable was to see Bonnie Raitt in some big park. I can’t remember the name of the park now. But it was hot. She was even complaining on stage about how hot it was.

Ever been in Jacksonville, FL in August — I think that is the absolute worst place for heat/humidity I’ve ever been.
try Memphis in July/August, whoaa, J-Ville doesn’t come close…LOL
I was there in the record breaking year, the worst ever. Yikes
I grew up around Memphis as a kid, 50’s & 60’s, and it never seem to bother me.
The older I get the less heat and humidity I can take.
No I’ve only been there one time in Dec. Actually very nice. 🙂
G’morn’n All, here’s hoping a joyful and safe weekend for all….
I’m going to have a quick blast of Cuban coffee, and go look at some housing today..
peace
Morning IP. Hope you’re fine this am.
Morning, IP. Oh, that coffee smells SOOooo good. I’m still an addict, after all of these years of being dry. . .
Morning IP. Happy house/apartment hunting.
You’re so lucky to be able to get Cuban coffee. It is, imo,the best in the world. And it’s not to be found in Kansas, what a surprise.
Oh, and hi, I’pig!
Ready for the long weekend? I have a snoozy CBtY recovering from a stomach bug today…he better be fully recovered for the meetup in Baltimore tomorrow!
It’s kind of misty here today…
Do all sort of things that I wouldn’t do!
(get well wishes for CBtY)
I think he’s starting to feel better, but enjoying the extra attention (and excuse to skip school) this morning.
this morning – unusually chipper and with a weird compulsion to use lots of !!!!!!!!s.
I hardly need this 16 oz. cup of fresh pressed coffee, but since I’ve been drinking it every day in the huge Cleveland mug the Indians have been winning again so I’m afraid to break the spell.
Cabin Girl, please take lots of pics of the meetup and post them!
I even have extra batteries here for my camera this time… 🙂
It’s been too hot and buggy out to take new pics outside so here’s another one from that amazing lily my son sent me for Mother’s Day. With it’s splendiferous “inner bits” on display.
larger
That’s great SN. You are really getting good at this.
Oh pshaw – I’m just chanelling my sexual energy into lewd pictures of the sex organs of flowers.
Well your channelling is bring about wonderful pictures. 🙂
…. google that! LOL.
Assuming this is the son in Ohio, I hope you are sending him the wonderful photos his wonderful mother is taking of his wonderful flowers.
I would love to but this is the son who has no computer, doesn’t answer his phone, works all night long and sleeps until 2 PM. Which is why I have to physically go to Cleveland to see him.
I’ll guess you’ll just have to break down and go the non-digital route and get some actual photos made from them.
OMG! I’ve never seen anything like that in photos or noticed it in RL. They look like Peeps! Little lilly flower Peeps.
LOL… why does that not surprise me that you’d have that reaction? See what you’ve done to all of our photography styles around here? We’re all inner bits obsessed now!

Well George is whinning to go outside and there are things to do today.
Everyone have a good day in the pond.

I’m worried about your son going away even at 22 🙂 It’s a mom thing 🙂
Pssst… had an interview at “really cool bookstore here in Portland) I told them of coming to their store to get yours and BostonJoe’s book 🙂
Why, thank you, dear DJ!
IF I get the job and I notice someone browsing or buying dective stories – I’ll be your pimpdaddy and tilt them towards your books. They have them ALL there. 😉
I’ll be rooting for you esp. hard to get that job! LOL!

We’re trying to resolve this by taking things away. (gameboy, TV) He’ll have to earn things back. I hope that he gets the message.
It Works!
