Internet Resources
It’s been a while since I’ve listed internet resources for the jazz fan, and fortunately the good folks at allaboutjazz.com have done the work of compiling resources and links for me. So here you go:
Blogs: Here are 68 (!) jazz blogs in the AAJ listing, so there are plenty of folks more knowledgeable than me on the subject for you to turn to, LOL. (Hey, where did everyone go?)
Podcasts: 23 of these to date. I may be back with comments on some of then new ones in a few weeks…
A link to 25 “Other Great Jazz Sites” with ratings and a summary of content for each.
Links to 444 Jazz Festivals (!) if you’re planning a summer getaway this weekend…
And, of course, downloads of music to whet your appetite to go buy a CD and keep a musician off the street.
So enjoy the music, and have a great holiday weekend!
Thanks KP for the resources! Just bought “The Essential Tony Bennett” two CD set. Really takes this old guy back a few decades. Some of his stuff is probably not jazz, but some is. I like him a lot, no matter how you classify him. One oldie “Rags to Riches” was a hit when I was eight years old laying in Herman Keefer Hospital in Detroit with Polio. During that month, WJR played about four or five different records over and over again. “Rags to Riches” was my favorite then, and evokes lots of memories even now!
Many thaks KP for keeping this series going ; )
I’m going to one of the oldest jazz joints here in Miami tonight, and by-god, you can still smoke there. I will be accompanied by a few good cubano stogies ; )
And some very good WODKA…..Yoowwwssiiirrr
peace man
Just wanted to give a shout out to anyone who hasn’t seen it: there was a fine article on the Brooklyn jazz scene in the NY Times yesterday.
I’d post the URL but I don’t know how to do the “hidden links” thing and don’t want to blow the margins. However, it’s currently on the Times’ “most emailed articles.”
Thanks for all the resources, KP!
Here’s the link. subscription required.
Thanks, maryb.
Incidentally, running my cursor over your link and checking the bottom of the screen, I realized…duh! I know how to do that, and have done it numerous times.
Shows what listening to vintage Coltrane (courtesy of Chris) first thing in the morning will do to one. I’ll probaby have trouble remembering how to shave as well (stares dumbly at razor, asking self, “What’s this thing for?”).
