I get all kinds of weird email. But this one is weird and hilarious.
It came to me in a vision that in America, a political party similar to the Fascists could come into existence by utilizing the internet. I envisioned that the color that this movement would identify itself with is the color orange (I still find it strange that no one is alarmed over the fact that the Democrats have abandoned the color blue for the more violent and revolutionary orange)
When I went on to the Daily Kos I found just what I was expecting…
…Markos Moulitsas Zúniga and his gang either already are, or will become, the future Technofascist movement of America. This movement might also come to be called the “Orange Party.”
This stuff is priceless. He even links to Raybin’s timeless GBCW diary from Sept. 2005 to drive home his point:
Hey Daily Kos, You are the terrorists and zealots.
I know George W. Bush has a special relationship with Poland, but it’s a little much to accuse nice, progressive, liberals (orange, or otherwise) of being terrorists and fascists.
As for the Frog Pond, the name ‘Green Party’ is already taken, so I guess we are safe from developing technofascist tendencies.
…I guess we are safe from developing technofascist tendencies.
We’ll be accused of being ecofascists, LOL.
And of course, “feminazis” (to use Rush Limbaugh’s pathetic term). Some of our own have accused us of that! ;-D
Yeah. We must be some kind of fascists.
I’d rather be a Marxist, thank you.
Aw, C’mon Booman, can’t we develop technofascist tendencies like every other weekend or on holidays?
You skipped the best part (were you trying to save our feelings?):
Although … that slob part makes me nervous, like maybe he’s seen my office.
The internet is a place dominated by those members of society who prefer not to live in the real world. By that I mean, the timid, the perverse, the ugly, and the slobs, he posts to his internet blog. He, of course, is not like that. He is one of the beautiful people who only blogs because…. because….
he just never learned one of life’s most important lessons: Never assume that everyone else is just like you.
that part about being timid.
the timid, the perverse, the ugly, and the slobs.
Yup, he’s nailed all the things I dislike about the real world. But I live in it anyway.
I ve got to be honest with you.
There is much truth in both diaries with which you linked. The blogosphere is purely reactionary. The left is purely reactionary. The right is purely reactionary.
Reacting to each others ramped up blogged paranoia
You guys arent laughing at yourselves enough. Maybe you need to look in the mirror more often. Always works for me.
Maybe there is some truth, but the fascism point that he structures his post around is just stupid. One of the basics of fascism is government-sponsored corporatism. Given the general hatred of big business in places like dKos, a form of fascism is just about the last thing online progressivism in the U.S. is likely to spawn. We have our weaknesses (including the general hatred of big business), but I don’t think he identifies them very well.
Well, you might be right in the strict definition of “fascism.”
But what do you call “communism” as practiced in the Soviet Union or in “Red” China?
The Chinese are now corporatizing too… Fashcommies?
I call it communism. I know it’s not true communism, but true communism is a pie-in-the-sky concept that isn’t achievable in the real world so you might as well use the label for what really exists. As a left-wing nut, I don’t have any problem with using communism to refer to the soviet-style totalitarian regime, since that seems to be what happens every time you go too far left. I wish communism worked, but I think it’s pretty clear by now that it doesn’t and never will. Greed is too powerful a motivator for the people in charge.
The Soviet style regime was gangster driven. Just different bs for the people to swallow.
Maybe there is some truth, but the fascism point that he structures his post around is just stupid.
Quite so. While DK continues to devolve into a place where ‘rules’ are applied in an increasingly arbiratry and selective manner and abuse and bullying from certain front pagers is tolerated and encouraged, fascism is hyperbole and as honest as calling the ‘leadership’ at DK ‘nice’. They’re certainly not folks I would wish to socialize with or pay to read the opinions of.
It seemed to me to be the pot calling the kettle orange. The fascist movement got it’s start in part by denouncing people they didn’t like as “communists.”
So, if writers liek the above do not watch their step, it could be argued that this is a case of the wolves calling the sheep ‘wolves’
In this case you really can’t compare our blog to the Daily Kos. We aren’t going for the same thing.
You’re argument would make sense only if we were rival blogs, trying to reach the same audience with the same kind of content. We make a lot of observations, today’s post is an examination of the Daily Kos. We make observations about everything around us.
We don’t just talk about politics like the Daily Kos, our content is much more varied. There’s more to life than siting online and talking about politics all of the time.
Sometimes life is so utterly predictable and then something interesting happens. Sometimes when it gets a little too interesting a little Lithium is nice also.
I must have misread the above post. I wasn’t thinking of DKOs compared to Booman at all.
Right-wing nuts are fascists, left-wing nuts are communists. Why do these idiots never get that right? It isn’t that hard to grasp, unless they’re just throwing off words they don’t understand instead of actually reading up on what fascism is.
Democrats have abandoned the color blue for the more violent and revolutionary orange
Orange is violent? No shit? So says a member of the red party?
The teen preacher looked so baffled
when I asked him why he dressed
with twenty pounds of headlines
stapled to His chest
But He cursed at me
when I proved to Him
and whispered not even You can hide
You see Youre just like me
I hope Youre satisfied

for me was that it came to him/her in a vision! Why are those on the right always thinking that God is talking to them? Creepy.
crank up the Ouija Board and see what’s in store for “them”. Perhaps at the East Coast Meetup 😉
I just updated my laptop to the latest version of Ubuntu Linux — which is supposed to be the “stable” version for a year — and the background and theme are this dark, dark orange.
Coincidence? You be the judge.
by the Dutch.
Don’t laugh, they conquered England in 1689 and we didn’t even notice they’d done it for two hundred years. They’re sneakier than you can imagine.
Always remember that today’s West point graduates are the first class since Vietnam to have gone to school for 4 full years of America being at war according to MSM, ? NBC. Don’t you just feel the strain and shared sacrifice of these war years everyday?
I’m a bit miffed that my comment at the blog 6-7 hours ago, to the effect that he needs to educate himself before posting nonsense because fascism and totalitarianism are not synonyms, was apparently rejected by the author. I guess he’s hoping no one else will notice.
Dear Shalimar,
Your comment is up on our site.
You just assumed that it was rejected.
Yes I did, there was a comment with a more recent time stamp so I assumed it was rejected. My apologies for my mistake, and welcome to Booman Tribune.
When I went on to the Daily Kos I found just what I was expecting…
Yes, It’s amazing how often that happens.
Your Right!
