Yeah, they’ll be fun. Well, most of them. I have a couple of wedding receptions to go to in there. But even those won’t be too bad.
I’ll know by the middle of this week (whatever day is the first of June, probably) whether things are getting moved around to let me go. It would be great to meet you in person. And Manny. And boran2. But I never count on anything until I’m absolutely sure. That’s the way my job is.
No, don’t go! We’ll all start fresh. And none of us will feel geeky. Either for not knowing a cool reference or for knowing a reference no one else catches. Deal?
I’m not going to be able to host for a couple of months. I looked at my calendar and I had something every single saturday in June and July and so I had to take a “leave of absence” until August. 5 of those weekends I’m scheduled to be out of town. I’ve got two weddings. And I volunteer every summer working backstage for a community theater group. So one weekend is the show.
{{CabinGirl}} I’ll hang out with you as long as I can stay awake. But, I can’t get the image of Andi’s couch out of my head. I feel like I should hold my eyes open with toothpicks! Actually, they sort of feel like they ARE being held up by toothpicks.
and success! Found a pair of hiking boots that I liked, that fit…and that were about $50 less than anything I saw last night at the two “specialty” shops. Also picked up a pair of compact binoculars for the spouse — they were on sale from $80 to $20, a deal I couldn’t pass up; they’ll come in handy next fall for college football season. 🙂
Pretty much set for the trip now — still deciding if I want to get a new pair of dress shoes or just stick with my black flats; they still look good, and they’re relatively comfortable, plus being flats they’ll pack easily.
Off to put away groceries and fix myself a big salad for dinner… 🙂
I must had missed it somewhere but is this trip a cruise?
If so, I found out something really cool when a relative took one. They have a ship cam. Most of the time you just see water and some land, but at the stops you can see the pier and towns they stop at.
CG — we leave 2 weeks from today, and this place is still a disaster area…though we did send about 5 bags of stuff over to Goodwill today; some towels that were still in good shape but that got replaced by Christmas gifts, and the sheets from our old double bed when we got the new queen-size. I’m just about ready — spouse wants to pick up a couple more pairs of jeans and a couple pair of Dockers over at the Levi’s Outlet store.
FM — combination land and cruise; we’ll be in Seattle for almost a week, then cruising to/from Alaska, then back in Seattle for a couple of days before flying home. I know that the Princess ships have the ship cam; I should go take a look at the one doing the Alaska cruises. We’re sailing Royal Caribbean; I don’t think they’re that advanced yet…though they have a rock climbing wall (which I’ll pass on)…
I’ll have the laptop with me, at least for the Seattle leg of the trip; not sure if the ship is equipped for Internet without having to pay an arm/leg/couple of toes, so will probably be offline (will probably only turn on the computer to upload the daily pictures/movies…
‘Evening, folks. Just stoppin’ in to say howdy before I wind down completely. It’s incredibly, deeply quiet here at the hillside collander. Rather magical, in fact — or eerie.
It does & then some, maryb. I hear absolutely nothing from the outdoors — not a breath of wind, nothing. It’s as if the world’s been dipped in cotton or achieved some type of awful finality. Awfully odd.
Alternately, of course, I might’ve gone deaf today.
In any case, I’m glad I caught your last cafe’. Your summertime plate seems incredibly full!
Not a chance that he’s gone yet, FM. Probably Monday.
However, he managed to run over a new tarp I’ve placed over my lumber, with his lawnmower & really hacked the hell out of it — so he may leave me alone due to embarrassment. Let us hope!
Well WW I don’t think you could take it in my neighborhood. I live by and across from lawn fanatics. A quarter inch growth is enought to start the lawnmowers and weedeaters.
Fanatics, I tell ya, fanatics.
Just because one has mowed twice and the other has mowed three time since the last time I mowed, doesn’t mean my yard looks like a jungle. Well actually it does in some spots. 🙂
Miss O, if I could invite each & every one of you out to my field on a fine, clear autumn night & show you these stars, you’d be absolutely blown away.
It’s utterly, beautifully fantastic. The sky seems washed in milk.
Not tonight, though. It’s rather overcast, just a few bright lights shining through.
It’s almost the same way here. A couple of years ago, I got my Mom up in the middle of the night and set up lawn chairs in the front yard so we could watch a meteor shower. We stayed out for awhile doing that, but if I remember right it was cold.
is almost always when I’m up in north country and we sit out for hours at night looking for meteors. And sometimes we get the northern lights as a bonus.
There’s nothing like seeing the stars somewhere where it’s really dark.
They actually appeared up here just a few years back. Quite a beautiful phenomenon — all sorts of incredible, shifting colors that shouldn’t appear in the sky at night — orange, green & red, covering the northern sky. It was great.
Feeling blue? You’ll feel better if you stick around here for a while.
Please unrecommend the last lounge and recommend this one.
Who’s feeling blue?
me, cuz it’s my last lounge night for a long time.
But you’ll be busy doing fun things, right? And how’s Vegas looking? We’ll have to have martinis there…
Yeah, they’ll be fun.
Are you interested in the dKos version of a cafe? I’ve never seen anything like this diary there before.
I saw that earlier. What a bunch of losers 🙂
you think the dkos conventions is the only time they are going to be out on a Saturday night all year long.
nah, I’m sure they’re all in Saturday night bowling leagues during the winter. 😉
or maybe you could count Saturday night Mass as being out on a Saturday night…well that is beyond loser…
well, you get wine …
Yes, but the bowling leauge you get beer, and not just a little sip.
True and usually more to eat than a wafer.
But FM you forgot the most important thing..the wine is free.
You did a great job of cleaning up in here!
With the right staff I could run the world. Why don’t we sit at the bar where we can be served more easily?
Hey, thanks for catching my Ransom reference…now I feel like I can hang out some more. 🙂
::sniff:: I knew you didn’t want to hang with people who didn’t understand your references. <sob>
I missed the Miles Davis reference, does that help?
What??? I was feeling like some kind of geeky girl no one could understand…
I guess I’ll go. I didn’t understand any of it. 🙁
No, don’t go! We’ll all start fresh. And none of us will feel geeky. Either for not knowing a cool reference or for knowing a reference no one else catches. Deal?
Yay! My geekiness will go unnoticed!
Nah, I was kidding.
On Mary’s last night to host a cafe, I could be in the hospital and I’d be yelling for wi-fi and a laptop. 🙂
(((((Family Man)))))
Where/what are you going/doing? What do you mean your last cafe?
I’m not going to be able to host for a couple of months. I looked at my calendar and I had something every single saturday in June and July and so I had to take a “leave of absence” until August. 5 of those weekends I’m scheduled to be out of town. I’ve got two weddings. And I volunteer every summer working backstage for a community theater group. So one weekend is the show.
Oh Mary — that’s too sad. But we’ll see you around now and then, won’t we?
Oh yeah, just not much on the weekends.
Maybe I’ll have to delurk more from work.
{{CabinGirl}} I’ll hang out with you as long as I can stay awake. But, I can’t get the image of Andi’s couch out of my head. I feel like I should hold my eyes open with toothpicks! Actually, they sort of feel like they ARE being held up by toothpicks.
I could use some toothpicks too. Up early yesterday, didn’t sleep well last night, and long day in the fresh air today.
Not that I’m complaining.
LOL that’s exactly what I tell Olivia to do at work.
Sleep and no one will know. 🙂
I find it works better to draw eyeballs on your eyelids – then you can sleep and people think you’re awake!
You know, I never thought of that one.
Your slackerhood status has just been elevated SN. 🙂
(giggle)
I’ve got to go for a minute, but I’ll be right back.
Bring back some ice cream for everybody else!
I’m back and I had to walk across the street and back.
That’s the exercise for the week. 🙂
Why?
And did you bring ice cream?
My sister and b-i-l are out of town and I had to go and check thier mailbox. It’s amazing what this family asks me to do.
Virtually I got all the ice cream ya want. Here at home, I have none. 🙁
I didn’t realize your sister lived across the street from you and your mom?
Yep we live on a corner, and until a couple of years ago had a brother who lived across the other street.
So why don’t your relatives ever stay with your sister?
Some do. The ones that come here have a sort of semi-permanent place to stay. Long story.
I thought I’d better get an Hello in here before you go off to bed.
Nice cafes today maryb!
Where’ve ya been?
and checking e/m etc. And I’m trying to move all my photos off my computer onto CDs so that I can get PS installed. It’s a slow process.
I’ve been lurking and reading though … 😉
Olivia are you trying to say I’m a geezer? 🙂
… okay, maybe I would. But only b/c you’ve self-IDed in the first place. 😉
I guess you’re right on that. Although I have my moments:)
I saw you’re copying pictures so you can install PS. I think once you get PS going and start using it, you’ll have a lot of fun.
At the risk of sounding geeky, what’s PS?
Mary I’m sorry. I had a Mom and George swarm and just saw this. It’s Photo Shop.
How was your day — I read earlier that you went for a bike ride …
But more nbly, are you and Jim surviving his first full day off? 🙂
Day was fine.
Since weekends and holidays don’t count, Tuesday will be the first real day of his being an unemployed bum.
… they’re something else aren’t they!
your photographs of irises.
It makes me think of a caterpillar.

Sounds like you had a nice day, Cali. How much longer until your trip?
I must had missed it somewhere but is this trip a cruise?
If so, I found out something really cool when a relative took one. They have a ship cam. Most of the time you just see water and some land, but at the stops you can see the pier and towns they stop at.

It’s the couch for me. I hope I’ll be back later, but — who knows?
.
night katiebird. If you wake up, come back!
Night KB.
Sniff says ‘move over, you’re grabbing all the couch!’
Nighty night.
I wondered if you’d decided to nap with Sniff on the Futon.
Nope. Reading (though I was also snuggling with Sniff on the futon).
Happy Sniff!
I thought maybe the biking tuckered ya out. (Do I sound like NDD?)
You gotta say ‘dem’ and ‘dose’ and ‘diss’ a lot more.
Night Andi.
are you?
No, I thought you were saying good night upthread.
needs to have an entire song devoted to saying goodnight. Since we spend so much time doing that — and trying to think of unique ways to say it.
You do have a point. 🙂
Maybe a medley of famous good night songs. All I can think of is the one from Sound of Music.
I don’t even say good night to family this much LOL.
me either. The Waltons’s didn’t say these many goodnights.
Yes but it so nice the next morning to see everybody saying good night.
I feel like one of the Waltons except I see it in the morning. 🙂
LOL!
well, maybe you should have Omir place the song at the start of the show 😉
I was saying good night — but to katiebird in case she didn’t come back.
yep, and the song should have the mistaken identity good nights too — because at least one happens every night.
Andi you should know by now, I’m just glad I post in the right diary, much less know what’s going on in a thread. 🙂
‘Evening, folks. Just stoppin’ in to say howdy before I wind down completely. It’s incredibly, deeply quiet here at the hillside collander. Rather magical, in fact — or eerie.
Hi WW. The silence makes up for the noise earlier.
I think you should enjoy it, because you may not get another quiet night for a while. Could be a stormy summer for example.
I’m glad you made it to my last lounge night too! Yeah, I’m busy, but I usually get that way in summer.
Hi WW. Sound like you had a good day.
If the landlord is gone it’s magical, if not, eerie. 🙂
Not a chance that he’s gone yet, FM. Probably Monday.
However, he managed to run over a new tarp I’ve placed over my lumber, with his lawnmower & really hacked the hell out of it — so he may leave me alone due to embarrassment. Let us hope!
I’m hoping.
Sounds to me like a ruined tarp should buy you another month while you’re working on your cabin/tent.
It should, but I think I’d rather it didn’t. There’s only so much mowing I can take.
🙂
If I wanted to go that way, I might also ask for more time due to the fact that the mower vibration knocked apart my dicey plumbing.
We’re on the verge of comedy here, dear!
Glad to hear it!
🙂
Can you see stars tonight? One of the things I hate about city living — rarely get to see the stars at night. 🙁
Miss O, if I could invite each & every one of you out to my field on a fine, clear autumn night & show you these stars, you’d be absolutely blown away.
It’s utterly, beautifully fantastic. The sky seems washed in milk.

They actually appeared up here just a few years back. Quite a beautiful phenomenon — all sorts of incredible, shifting colors that shouldn’t appear in the sky at night — orange, green & red, covering the northern sky. It was great.
One of the things I used to dream about was going to Alaska and retiring there. The Northern Lights were a big draw.
However, Olivia has shown me the errors of my ways and Alaska, phew, phew. It’s Canadian one day I’ll be. At least as much as I can from down here. 🙂
So I’m sure you’ll just love being Cdn. 🙂
the use of learning to say “eh?” down here when there’s no Northern Light. I’m just a wanna be Canadian. 🙁
… and growing up where I did, we’d often see the northern lights too.
I was so lucky to grow up where I did, and the kicker is that I didn’t appreciate just how lucky I was at the time. But isn’t that the way it goes … 🙂
It would quiet here too, except the june bugs are pretty noisy.
I opened up the door to check the sky for Miss O & heard the peepers calling away down at the pond.
Generally I hear them from inside — which leads me to think that I am, in fact, experiencing partial deafness in my left ear, as it’s become infected.
I’ve experienced complete deafness due to infection before; it was only a matter of time.
Ear infections are the worst pain there is. I get one and I feel like amputating the side of my head. I hope yours gets better soon.
Thanks, Andi. No pain right now, just a clogged feeling.
Personally, I hope it doesn’t get any worse. Will need to treat it soon.
WW I think Andi has gone on to bed.
You’ve had this before with your ear and you know how it feels, start treating now.
The 24/7 cafe is now open.
