May the 4’s be with you
Morning Andi!!!!! Hope you had a great nights sleep.
I had a fine night’s sleep but I wouldn’t say I’m raring to go — unlike, I’m sure, you.
ROTFLMAO!!! Well, I am always raring to go. Speaking of I need to get in the shower and get the trash out before work. Hope everyone has great day.
Great pic Olivia, I love those macros. ; )
G’morn’n All, hope your weekend was as pleasurable as mine.
Summertime is in swing here in Miami, from seeing all the bathing suits yesterday, er…lack of..I should say : o
LMAO
peace all….later
Hey, IP, it is always so good to see you here in the pond. Miss having your coments around to enjoy. Can I give you a detail later on in this week? Would love to meet you or both of you.
I am going there for my son’s beach wedding. Will have a couple of days before then to R&R, and might make it happen. I will be at yoru mercy tho, for I am driving down with my daughter and her family. Thanks…
we’ll see what can be done. keep in touch…
we’ll call it a “Bless Yo Heart Southern Git-to-gather” ; ) LOL
peace
GGGGGGGGGGGGGood Morning from the great state of Tennessee, ya’ll.
I see we all survived the holiday. It has rained here at least once since the mid of last week. Things are growing like weeds…actually the weeds are really growing…
Got up today with the cats and they just knew I was gonna get them started for the day with the usual routine. Nothing ever changes at my house. As far as I know, I do not have to go into work today. Course that can change in a second. Hoping I do not for I do have to get my grass mowed, house cleaned and laundry done. Planning for my trip next week to FL. My son is getting married in that state on the beach. This is to be some production, I understand. Everyone is gonna wear flip flops with their attire. This is something I have to see to believe. I have bought some fancy dancy ones to go with my attire. I just hope I do not trip and fall wearing them…This is something I do normally not wear, especially out in public to walk a lot in. I bought some soft isotoners to dance in for just that very fear…:o) You know the older one gets the more clumsy one becomes…;o) I will be just so happy to be away for a week and not on call for that time!
NOt much else is going on here. HOpe every one had a safe and fun holiday, yesterday.
I want to say to whomever did the picture at the top of the page, it is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really enjoy the flowers you all put up. The wind and the rain took out one of my hanging planters on Thursday night. I will have to get someone to replace and straighten out the rod that holds it..the wind just bend the rod at the ground and everything was lying on the ground. All the other flowers I did a few weeks ago are going very well. I have rail hangers on my deck full of begonias…red and they are so pretty. The heat just about got to my petunias. I really had to water them in the evening to bring them out of the shock from the heat then the rain started and they are looking fine now.
Well, must get busy here at the house. Have a great and productive day…hugs…
Have a wonderful day, Brenda & stay cool!
You 2, WW. I hear ya on the heat…yack! Thank gawd for the AC! Have a great day, aside from the heat and be very careful of it too…it can be a danger. HUGS
I can’t stand flops or sandals. They’re “eveeel”. Little kids wear them and what happens? They fall or stub their piggies.
If you, like me, have a hard time with flip flops… just go barefoot. It’s safer. 🙂
But then there’s that dealybob with hot, burning sand.
Signed, Tenderfoot.
Is this house closing day?
Our house in CA closed Thursday. There is a back up buyer on this house in OR. We had to rush in Friday and sign the title papers so that they would be recorded by the close date of … 30th. Which was a holiday. We have to wait to hear if the back up buyer tried to stop our contract. They say it’s null and void since the date was the 30th but that was a holiday so the recording doesn’t take place till today.
Fuckers.
So once again, we wait – stressed.
If we lose it after all this… I’m getting a press release written up. Realtor fucks over veteran family due to memorial day holiday.
Let me add: This house in OR was “sold” in 3 weeks of being placed on the market. We got the bid right then. Three weeks and this other realtor was pushign the entire time. Our bank, everyone, had our papers crossed and dotted. Everything was in order – reason we were able to get it done. But… we could still lose it due to a fucking “holiday”.
Today we either get the keyes or we lose the house and the $5,000 earnest money we laid down on it.
I can’t believe how they’ve put you through the wringer on this. I’ll be sending all the good vibes your way I possibly can.
checked any good facts lately?
The one thing that’s saving me is the imagery of your wonderful nature, and the flowers in my garden. I just have to make it through a few more hours. I’m eating an early lunch to try and get my energy levels up.
Quiet here today …
up my sympathy — I know how awful it can be stuck doing deeply boring work, no matter how necessary.
I just dumped half a container of chicken noodle soup in my lap! I’m soaking wet and there’s noodles stuck everywhere, even between my toes!!! It looks like I’ve peed my pants and the chair too! What a day …. grrrrr. See you all later … maybe. 🙂
OMG… I’d laugh if that weren’t uncouth. Sorry about that, O! I usually seem to do that with coffee, which makes an even weirder spot… Hope you can get it taken care of without too much discomfort for the rest of the day! Hope to see you later tonight…
I’ll be a bit uncomfortable this afternoon, oh well. I didn’t spill the most nb thing: my chocolate milk. Now that would have resulted in tears lemme tell ya! See ya!
Thanks you guys. Kids rooms are mostly packed. everything else in this house is … well so much is already in storate that this stuff in the apt can be packed last minute as it’s stuff we need right from day one ya know…
Gotta go and mail an overnighter and I might pop in and get a shot of “ooooohh la la” … I mean get a shot of coffee by my favorite coffee dude. 🙂
My mouse is wiggin’ out. Keeps dying or being a pest.
So sorry to hear that whole “holiday” mess is still stressing you folks out! I too will send my best positive vibes your way to achieve a successful conclusion… you have been through way too much in this whole process to have it all yanked out from under you. I’m hopeful it will all turn out in your favor… thinking good house thoughts for you! {{{DJ}}}
I’ve decided that along the walkway to the door… there’s only beauty bark there – so I’m thinking LAVENDER would be nice. 🙂 It dries well too!
How was your Weber Grill? 🙂
And good luck. That’s sooo agravating.
Wait just a minute, isn’t today the 30th? I thought the holiday was the 29th. I’m so confused.
Not confused… the meant by the opening of business day. So we are having to wait and see WHEN this all gets recorded. Which is bs because we signed the paperwork Friday.
Meaning we couldn’t have it recorded Monday (29th) so that the contractual agreement of closing by the (30th) would then be null and void. Gotta love the dog eat dog world of the housing market.
Having back up buyers… I think it’s wrong. At least at this late stage of the buying.
Well, good luck at any rate. You’re moving into one of those areas of expertise my wife, who works in title insurance, knows about and I don’t. Sort of like Picking Up Your Socks and Asking For Directions.
Well at least you don’t ask for directions from me. My husband asks me which way to go or where to turn.. I’m all, “you’re asking me??? a person who has to hold up her left hand to visualize which way is LEFT?” ACK!!
No one in my house, but me, picks up their socks. If the animals wore socks, I doubt they’d pick them up, too.
DJ, I hear you on that one! I bought them to wear for just about 1/2 hours or there abouts and then they come off. Like I said, I will be wearing the isotoners afterwards. I hardly ever place hi heels on these days. Tooooo hard on my back and feet to wear them too long of a time. I am so used to wearing nursing shoes, I supposed I am spoiled…and they sure are comfortable. I am a tenderfoot too…;o)
I did the Senators event in high heels. Bad idea. Some of us were dressed “for show’ as we were going in. When we got out we marched around in town in heels pushing shopping carts. My feet hate me now.
Good morning, all. Hope everyone’s ready to abandon the holiday spirit & get back into the workaday mundane.
Another very, very warm day seems to be in store for us here in the Catskills — more humid than yesterday, as well. Current temperature is 82 in the shade, with a bright white overcast sky; there’s a bit of a haze.
I’ll likely make like the felines & hide out today.
Our woodland birds seem happy, though.
Here’s to a quick work week & the eastward flow of cooler temperatures.
Hey there 🙂
Saw a waether map this morning and most of it was RED. Oh my! Wasn’t it just snowing where you were last week?
Global Weather Weirdness.
Good mornoonevenight everyone. I caught a head cold 🙁 so I’ll be in and out today for hosting duties. I was actually ready to go back to work 😮
DJ, I echo the ‘sending good thoughts your way’ brigade upthread. I hope everything works out in your family’s favor.
Bless you!
The one good thing is that Friday the family in CA who bought our house got to finally move in. We accepted their bid on Good Friday as I recall. I was doubly happy to hear that they were a young immigrant family with a little kid from Mexico. They had been living in an apt in Calistoga. Now.. they have a big, fenced in yard on 1/3 an acre property. 🙂
I heard they had the house blessed and her father came up beforehand to look at the structure of the house to confirm it was a good buy. I’m very happy for them.
Gloomy Tuesday from the post-holiday front! Actually it’s just overcast here and cooler than the weekend, with more rain supposed to move in this afternoon. Though those storms we were supposed to get last night never materialized…did rain lightly at some point though early this morning.
So anyway, despite my grumpy “have to be back at work” mood today, hearty shout outs to you all… Andi, O, WW, Sr. Eegee, RF, DJ and whoever else I may have missed!
Hope everyone’s day goes quickly so we can be closer to a weekend again… 😀
We had thunderstorms last night (that’s why I wasn’t around — bad lightning storm). It cooled down for a bit, but it’s hot and muggy again today and more t-storms are on the way this afternoon!
I saw your pix and I’m loving them! Maybe next, could I put in a request for a bigger view of the current status, so we could see how it’s laid out? Please? 🙂
It finally rained last night, yay. It has been far too hot and dry for May.
Only another week and a half of school for the kids. Our older daughter in middle school is really looking forward to it. Like all normal people, she finds middle school to be quite trying.
Just back from WisCon and still recovering. Not much to say today, but I wanted to tell Andi that P.C. Hodgell tells me she expects to be doing more writing and faster now that she’s officially retired from her professor job. Now, back to lurking and lounging.
Mint Iced Tea
Since I already asked one wrong question today, I might as well go for the jackpot — do you know when you’ll hear something about the job at the bookstore?
Your questions show you care, (((Andi))))
Won’t hear back till Thursday at the latest they said. I’m one great big stress monkey these past two weeks. ACK LOL
Hope everything works out for the best, {{{DJ}}}!
Glad you made it to your new dwellings! How is everything?
I’m sick again. I got strep throat right before I left Flag, which sucked, and I’ve only been here 2 weeks but am already coming down with something else. ARGH! I know it’s all par for the course with autoimmune disease but it still pisses me off. It’s just so inconvenient.
Other than that things are going well and we are adjusting in pretty nicely here. My housemate has gotten a couple of offers on the condo back in AZ and is in negotiations, so hopefully it will sell this week without any unanticipated bullshit screwing the deal up.
Have you guys looked into getting a lawyer to review your situation? If your deal is ripped out of your hands, it might be worth an hour’s worth of consultation fee, or trying to find a lawyer who will do a free consult, to see if you can at least get back some of your $$.
my father in law said the very same thing. He used to be a realtor/broker.
Ah man bummer about the new buggies. When we moved here we got all the new Oregon germs and viruses, too.
Now… soon you’ll need to send me a phone number so I can breathe sweet nuttin’s to ya while guzzling down rum.
Yeah, I’ll email you soon with new contact info — I’m so bad about that, I haven’t even emailed my dad or my sister yet. Yikes.
You are such a bad girl.
Man, I missed you in one cafe particularly. A big fluffy rabbit called Albert who is Keres – it’s photo was shown and we all wished we could have the instant gratification of petting his fuzzy wuzzy cuteness.
Someone posted that a lady carries her rabbit in her purse for instant gratification.
…
Of course some women carry a different type of rabbit for the same reason 🙂
Both of those rabbits are infinitely touchable…but in very different ways. :p
Yeah and they both keep going and going and going…
Have you checked out your neighbors to see if there are any potential MHs (since it ain’t roomie’s thang, I was hoping there would be somebody around to pat your head and go ‘there, there’).
Getting the cyber “there there” from you is best, Andi, I have no need to find a meatworld replacement. 🙂
If you had ended up in Cincy I would have been able to send over my m-i-l who is a pat and fluffer extraordinaire — she’d could’ve been my mother-hen-by-proxy.
FLUFFER??
evil grin. 🙂
forget the evil grin — m-i-l is 83.
No wonder. Forget about ice-tea, you deserve to be downing pitchers of pastels drinks.
Andi, no doubt 🙂 This week is a short week for the Mr. So I think tonight we’ll be bad influences on each other and even worse examples to our kids – and get SMASHED tonight.
I just left a message for our awesome realtor, Max. Just asking if he’d heard if it recorded yet. The MR. has meetings all damn day today so won’t be able to meet if we get the keys so stated we can meet tomorrow. We should both be there ya know…
That was really wonderful of you to think about asking her. And what fantastic news — who knows, maybe she’ll finish the series while I still have enough brain cells left to read them.
I hope you had a great time at Wiscon and generated a lot of excellent buzz for your book.
In case you didn’t know, Nanette does a cool round-up of blogposts by commenters at my site who have their own pads set up in blogtopia. Most, if not all, are BooTribbers, so if you wanna check out what other people are working on, the roundup is a good starting place. I’d like to send a special congratulations to boran2 who had his One Year Blogiversary yesterday at Survivor Left Blogistan – go show him some love.
[/shameless blog pimping alert]
As you were. [/Captain Picard]
The round-up is a great idea. I think I might need to steal it some time.
a great job at weaving the different links, it’s neat to be a part of a neighborhood where everyone has their own focus yet still able to congregate at different places to ‘hang out’. We’ve got to grow the Revolution somehow!
to dust off the old hat and plumeage too.
I have a short story that I tell about Lady Luck a crime fighter and granter of wishes (usually in the form of lotto scratch tickets) and her sidekick Lupe Hole (more a tax consultant than partner)
Now I’m working on a draft about an “arch” enemy – PimpZilla. (see above shoes photo)
Lady Luck has found helpfull allies to battle such a fearsome toe… er foe.
Pooties!
Note: the kitties are able to stop crime in it’s tracks by performing an elite Kitty Yoga move called Down Doggy Down.
I hope everyone had a decent Memorial Day. We ended up taking our granddaughter to one of her favorite hangouts, the local zoo, where a fine time was had by all. I got some butterfly pictures but I’ll have to post them later, as they are at home and I’m not.
No trip to the zoo is complete without a story of one of the animals flinging poo, touching itself or another, or charging of the cage/window.
Or empty cage after empty cage.
Or – make it wake up!!!
😀
Hahahaha . . . no, this trip we pretty much made about six stops:
But she had fun and got to get out and run around and play, and when you’re nine years old that’s what’s important, right?
In San Francisco when lived in Marin (military housing actually) we would take our babies on the first Wednesday as it was freebie day. My son loved riding in the Radio Flyer more than the actual zoo. 🙂
Shhhh I had to breastfeed Danni (she was a little pup then) near the Bear exhibit… I think this offended some other women even though I was very discreet and well covered.
We have a zoo here in Portland which is right off the Max train – gotta go check it out but couldn’t with my brother in town. Uncle Damnit makes comments about caged animals and Danni got concenered and is now questioning whether or not we should attend such things. … Kids… they make ya think too much sometimes LOL
Hmm — I thought folks visited the zoo partially to learn about mammals. Mammals, mammaries.
What a bizarre culture we have.
In any case, good to see you DJ! Sending all the green wishes I possibly can in your direction; hope & trust all will work out smoothly.
You’re darn right about our (that’s the big ‘our’) wacky weather this season — hell, this year. Our local radio folks were just commenting on the fact that our winter’s just ended.
Yet, it’s the mother’s will, not ours.
Love the pootie pics above — & those shoes! Great goodness!
🙂
We’re on the cusp of an intense thunderstorm at the moment — so forgive me if my connection craps out.
I don’t know what is up with Americans when it comes to boobs and sex.
One baby I fed with a bottle the other I was able to nurse. I got more crap from WOMEN about it. Really odd.
I refused to feed my baby in a hot car in the parking lot or in some dirty bathroom. And this wasn’t in some “redneck” area… this was “liberal” San Francisco/Marin. Don’t ask me why it was so offensive. I always covered up with a burpee towell or blankie. Go figure. But it was always a woman who felt the need to complain or be extra loud about her opinion. Men would either look, not stare, or try very hard to look away to show that they weren’t looking. I think it’s very natural to look at a mom feeding her baby. soothing even. Maybe if men saw more women feeding their babies… they’d be less likely to want to go overseas and kill. (?)
Even better if they themselves could feed them similarly.
Don’t know what the story is with some women & their hangups. Perhaps the sight of a simple act of nature reminds them of something they’d rather forget & it makes them uncomfortable.
Likewise the men.
The point is, it’s better for the children.
I really don’t get it either. My friend that I “lost” after this last election because she now hangs out with two right wing fanatics and finds me too political… ahem… I think she has issues with closeness and I may have gotten’ too close… anyways…
Her pet peeve was women breastfeeding in public. Now… to understand the irony of this – she had many things pierced and tatooed and she would always show em off if anyone asked. She led a very alternative lifestyle but she’s not a poster child for women’s rights. As long as they aren’t her rights that is. One day she’ll be in a big surprise about how much her new friends, the church ladies, did to destroy everything SHE holds dear.
Yep. The lesson’s inevitable. Thankfully, there’s no expiration date on an ability to learn.
Sorry to say it, but I’m sensing that your former friend’s sense of ‘freedom’ is pretty superficial.
Also read this recently, which seems relevant. The discussion — between journalist Joan Didion & a concerned shrink — concerns the Haight/Ashbury scene, ca ’67 & took place at the time. It relates to what I refer to as a superficial perception of ‘freedom’:
In other words, certain types of ‘free thinking’ are fertile ground for the right wing, because it begs for control.
This is why I think Bush’s ‘redeemed sinner’ persona works so well — & why so many GOP ‘sinners’ adopt the same pose.
It’s not just about control; we’re all pigs who need it.
You know I wonder if that’s why so many cast a negative on the term “hippie” or words like it… they seem to think it’s just a “stage” or something… an excuse to light up or flake out.
Well, sure — because if you’re whole world view is based on a guilt trip, then everyone needs excuses.
Wow!!! You are so correct. Thanks for the food for thought.
Likewise, DJ!
It’s raining a little now — I think I’ll go out & stand in it. Too damn warm in here.
Back later!
You know, I would think that anybody going to a zoo where you can pretty easily tell the boy elephants from the girl elephants shouldn’t be getting too hung up about someone breast-feeding their baby under a blanket. In fact, yesterday at the Zoomazium there was a woman breastfeeding her little girl not ten feet from us. Nobody seemed to pay any more attention to her than they did to any of the other people there.
As for the bit about “caged animals,” the Woodland Park Zoo makes a big point of mentioning how bad conditions used to be for many of their animals, particularly the bears and simians, and how much better they have it nowadays with large open-air habitats instead of cramped cages. The jaguar I mentioned is the latest beneficiary of this. They haven’t managed to get rid of all of the cages yet, but they’re making an effort. In fact right off the top of my head I can only think of three or four actual “cages” right at the moment in the sense we normally think of them. One of those is actually a step up. When the zoo’s cougar died a year or so ago they cleaned out the cage, spruced it up quite a bit and put their clouded leopards in that enclosure. It’s a step up because up until then the clouded leopards had been in an indoor enclosure and at least this way they get to see some sunlight once in a while (as much as we get here, anyway LOL).
Ah the woodland park zoo… that’s where the Mr. re-upped while in the Navy.
I hear you about the humane conditions. 🙂
is on my list of places to visit week after next (GAAACK!!! We’re not ready!!!) when we’re up there in Seattle…another is a store I saw listed in my “Seattle Top 10” book — Toys in Babeland. 😉 (Hey DJ — shall I send you a souvenier??? 😉 )
Got to finish getting ready — heading out for the doctor’s to get the “move more” lecture (I’ve already got the “eat less” part down pat), and hopefully to get something for my allergies so my head doesn’t feel like it’s 10 feet wide…
Hmmm . . . I was going to point you to a couple of my favorite toy stores, but then I figured out we weren’t talking about that kind of toys. LOL
If you have time for sightseeing you might want to consider the Seattle Citypass while you’re here. For $36 you get into not only the zoo, but the Aquarium, the Museum of Flight, the Pacific Science Center and an Argosy Cruise Harbor Tour. I’ve never been on the harbor tour but the others are all well worth seeing. (Our family regularly buys memberships to the Zoo, the Aquarium and the Science Center. They’re the right combination of projects worth supporting and cheap entertainment for when the Queen of the Universe is bored and wants to go do something.)
Hey Cali!!! Have a grand time in Seattle!!! Chowder chowder chowder 🙂
No souvies needed thank you though. I kinda like to pick my own iffin’ you know what I meanin’ when it comes them thar toys 🙂
Word of advice: Gel skin tends to get icky after a short while.
just got a phone call from my boss (I’m home sick today), apparently the office is melting in my absence. Is it wrong that I don’t really care? O:-)
No, but it would be wrong if you didn’t try to parlay everyone else’s unpleasantness into a raise for yourself. 😉 Hope you feel better soonest, hon.
I’m an equal-opportunity compensation whore. 😉
That’s whne you hold the phone out.. and flush the toilet.
“excuse me what did you say?”
I said the office could really use…
FLUSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
“what?”
I said, the office is really hurting since
FLUSSSSSSSSSSShhhhh
“what??”
(a few gagging sounds might help too)
Hi All,
Just dropped by to say howdy!
DJ please let us know right away what happens with your house! I’m on tenterhooks, here.
IVG, thanks for your last message, I checked the link, what a sweet house, you have a lovely little space to work with and are doing great work there.
WW, I’m glad that it cooled off just a few degrees for you and the pooties! Hope you have found a nice piece of shade to hide in.
Olivia, what a great flower shot, thank you!
Glad you and the kiddies had a nice time at the zoo, Omir.
Mannee, I forbid you to feel guilty! You deserve a break after what they put you through last week!
That’s all I can think of for now. I’m going to go practice with my Typing Tutor program. I’m uploading Pride and Prejudice one chapter at a time to use for my practice sessions, which is a total blast, I tell you! Aside from that, tying up loose ends so I can feel organized for my re-entry into the noble work force.
Countdown to Happy Hour!
come on out to the patio – and be prepared to get wet!
to hit the unrecommend button on your way out. Grassy ass!
