Well she doesn’t have access to the porch while we’re gone, but whenever the door to the LR is open she’s likely out there. This was taken during a break yesterday afternoon….
That is amazing. One of these days I gotta get back to ND during the summer. Lovely shot of Big Sky country… oh… but wait, is that ND or MT? Never mind.
pretty much everyone here takes all this beauty for granted. Since most of them have lived here their whole lives they have no appreciation of what’s lacking in other places.
Take tonight. No wind in the trees, no sounds at all outside. Clear sky, sparkling stars.
If I was to shut off the computer, and the refrig compressor wasn’t running there would be no sound at all.
I think we all do that, and even us city folks. We were talking tonight on the porch about how quiet everything was around here (except for occasional barking dogs), and peaceful. This is the stuff I don’t want New Yorkers finding out about and moving here (more than they are). Yeah, there’s the occasional speeding car or dog caravan, but otherwise, it’s my haven away from work…. Pepa likes it too, as you can see above, hehe.
I sense that there’s a herding dog in your future, since you can provide the space for one. My non-solicited advice is to get a Corgi (preferably Cardigan, with the tail intact) because they can easily and happily adapt to country and city living. Smartest damn dogs I’ve ever owned except for my terriers, of which of course Pepa is the current incarnation…
only unnatural rock work around these here parts would be the rock piles the farmers have acculated over the years from picking them out of their fields.
We would love to, if we could ever get significant time off together. But on another note… how are you doing on planning for the Oct 7 meet up in Chicago? I’m getting firmer by the day. And so is Olivia, hehe.
but it’s an easy trip downtown from there. Is it really 3 hrs from where you are? A mere 45 min from here… thus my enthusiasm… besides I’ve always LOVED Chicago. My kind of lumpen proletariat kinda town.
I was telling Andi earlier, that the one and only time I was in Chicago was on a overnight layover and we ran into a couple of actors from Police Academy … when they found out we were Cdn, they serenaded us w/ O Canada … and they knew all the words … was impressive. 🙂
I’ve never done it to my back, but I’ve pulled other muscles pretty badly a time or two…takes a long time to heal…think Albert P. from maryb’s cards…he’s on disabled list for 2 weeks(min) with something similar and he’s got a prof. training/re-hab staff at his disposal.
As to ‘not touristy’…they’re in pretty rough parts of town, notably the South Side, and the West Side…’bout the only white face for several sq. miles…not someplace I’d take a date. if you get my drift.
All that gardening is doing wonders for your physique is it … Unfortunately, my choco-intake over that coupla weeks is taking me in the opposite direction from ‘firm’ … LOL 😉
I’ve got old friends coming from CA for our annual BBQ this Saturday, new deck still in progress, house cleaning and other prep still in progress, etc.
But I could call my “driver” tomorrow. He’s been wanting to take a Chicago trip to hear the symphony, and as you recall maryb found something happening that day, Mahler, et al.
I’m just trying to do what I know is right and prodding folks along. But reality does have its ugly way of rearing its head. I think it will be cool though, so applying MaryB pressure where I can and trying to not be too pushy. Heheh
if the “party all night” rule is in effect I won’t be able to take pictures cause it’ll be dark…and, I have never used a flash with any of my SLR’s, always shoot with existing light, or lamps occasionally.
Turning off the flash was literally the first thing I did when I got the XT.
How’s that? And me, doing MaryB’s bidding? I’m verklempt. Just to say I’m psyched about doing the meet up and it would be amazing to have you, NDD and dada all in tow as well… But I’m fearing the bar tab already, hehe.
Thanks O. Good to see you too. I was stressing over some things said about my kids performance in the play, namely in her playing a Black/Hispanic woman. It didn’t go over well, but since the only white person in this play was a gay male choir director hooked on crack, what was she supposed to do?
Argh…I’m getting over it, but sheesh I neeeded to vent. ;>)
ACK!!!! I was just saying to Olivia that the black moms did not like her. She was forced to play a Hispanic woman, who talked Black and she is a little white geeky goth girl. You couldn’t ask for a harder role for her to play. Yet she pulled it off, so much that the black moms were pissed she was so black. Now she feels bad and is angry and confused as to why they would bring up race, when all she tried to do was play the role she was assigned. I wanna ask their kids to play a North Hollywood valley girl and see what it’s like.
I’m sad because she worked so hard and did so well and got nothing but shit for playing the role she was told to play too well.
when what should have been just a positive experience goes negative.
It almost seems like you, your daughter and the “critics” are all part of a second theater production.
I’d say, try to look at it like that, then step “outside the circle”, step outside that second play, see what can be learned from that too, and maybe in that way the whole experience can still be worthwhile for your daughter.
And in the end she may end up learning more from the 2nd than the 1st.
I can’t get anything about what her teacher said. I gathered he just let the kids speak. He told her she did a fine job, but then again, he told most kids that. Her teacher seems pretty enigmatic about this, I think he wants the kids to figure it out on their own. He knew the play was geared towards urban black kids and he knew that KamaKid had no real place in it. Y’all probably don’t know that the play was mostly written by the director of the school. The director is very biased towards black kids. He even at one point tried to tell the teachers that they should be more lenient with the black kids than the white kids. They refused for good reason. But I understand his position. He is trying to create a good school that will give the urban ghetto kids an alternative to our truly spectacularly bad public schools.
The teacher is a hard Russian guy. He does not do feelings very well.
I like what NDD said above … about this becoming part of the experience. She has no doubt learned from it, and hopefully it has expanded her understanding a bit more while not quelling her desire to do future plays and such …
I like this one w/ her tongue hanging out as much as the intense stare one … 🙂
and she will go beserk for Beggin strips! It’s sooo easy to get good shots of her in her “throne” on the porch… she gets so into watching everything.
is that her perch during the day when you and C are working?
Well she doesn’t have access to the porch while we’re gone, but whenever the door to the LR is open she’s likely out there. This was taken during a break yesterday afternoon….
as the cliff swallows were swarming on me like bees.

reminds me of my dog history. And I’m looking forward to having one again before long. I’m just waiting for the stars to align themselves on that.

That’s a nice stream you’ve got there, Bu would be in heaven…is that rock work natural or an intervention?
only unnatural rock work around these here parts would be the rock piles the farmers have acculated over the years from picking them out of their fields.
That is so cool to hear… nature often is best left to her own designs. I like em.
The simplicity of colour — green and blue — is really striking. And I agree w/ d re: the rocks.
sure hope it works out for you guys to visit some day.
We would love to, if we could ever get significant time off together. But on another note… how are you doing on planning for the Oct 7 meet up in Chicago? I’m getting firmer by the day. And so is Olivia, hehe.
This gig’s starting to sound interesting…
I figured I’d try to use a little bit of what muscle remains here, lol.
Btw, how are yours feeling today, ladder dude?
It’s about a 3 hr flt. IMS. Used to go to Chi. regularly 10-12yrs. ago…not real fond of O’Hare…
Backs a little stiff today…but progressing; not as quickly as I’d like tho.
but it’s an easy trip downtown from there. Is it really 3 hrs from where you are? A mere 45 min from here… thus my enthusiasm… besides I’ve always LOVED Chicago. My kind of lumpen proletariat kinda town.
NDD was rec’ing …
I was telling Andi earlier, that the one and only time I was in Chicago was on a overnight layover and we ran into a couple of actors from Police Academy … when they found out we were Cdn, they serenaded us w/ O Canada … and they knew all the words … was impressive. 🙂
but it’s still too sore…I pulled it pretty good.
Chicago’s a great town…esp. for the Blues…used to know some great places there…prob. some still around, tho not particularly suited to ‘tourists’.
Do you think it’s worth getting checked out?
Not suited to tourists, eh?

I noticed that a lot of the musicians on that CD you helped me w/ are from Chicago …
of contemporary “Electric Blues”…as the say: Muddy Waters invented ‘lectricity…I think just about everybody on that set is a Chicago musician.
Thinking about that date as well? Not that far a flight for you from where you are to Chicago… nudge, nudge.
All that gardening is doing wonders for your physique is it … Unfortunately, my choco-intake over that coupla weeks is taking me in the opposite direction from ‘firm’ … LOL 😉

if all three of ya are going then if need be I’ll just put my thumb up along side East I-94
IVG’s just doing maryb’s bidding … 😉
it was a great rumour while it lasted, ha!
I’m just trying to do what I know is right and prodding folks along. But reality does have its ugly way of rearing its head. I think it will be cool though, so applying MaryB pressure where I can and trying to not be too pushy. Heheh
if things work out I’d love too, but 4 months is waaay to far out for me to plan…:{)
how serious remains to be seen…lots of time to decide…:{)
You’d have to bring your camera you know … I’d pester you with questions … 🙂
party all night, sleep all day scenario myself…and I never use a flash…1st thing I turned off…:{)
I’m dense tonight … 🙂
if the “party all night” rule is in effect I won’t be able to take pictures cause it’ll be dark…and, I have never used a flash with any of my SLR’s, always shoot with existing light, or lamps occasionally.
Turning off the flash was literally the first thing I did when I got the XT.
Sorry for the confusion…:{)
I’d still pester you w/ questions … 😉
with the “4-nikator” ya just hit it on the way out the door…:{)
could be your attention span has decreased in proportion to the increase in bit speed.
… that I can now see how slow you all are at responding to comments and 4ing … I’ve got bits to burn here … 🙂
How’s that? And me, doing MaryB’s bidding? I’m verklempt. Just to say I’m psyched about doing the meet up and it would be amazing to have you, NDD and dada all in tow as well… But I’m fearing the bar tab already, hehe.
We’d be up all night and asleep most of the day … LOL
just depends on how fast the thread is moving, usually I can’t keep up even when I skip the 4ing.
Oh boo hoo to you… I’m always on dial up too… sometimes I manage to make up for it though, but fading fast at this point…
dial up here too and while I’d love to give out lots of 4’s, I am slower than molasses.
though high speed is on my agenda for very soon…
Hi all. Can’t sleep, so I thought I’d pop in.
Sorry to hear that you can’t sleep, but it’s nice to see ya … 🙂
Thanks O. Good to see you too. I was stressing over some things said about my kids performance in the play, namely in her playing a Black/Hispanic woman. It didn’t go over well, but since the only white person in this play was a gay male choir director hooked on crack, what was she supposed to do?

I’m not bound long for this world but jump on in. Monday was not kind to me, lol.
… cause we love you :)… and guess what? Monday’s over — it’s Tuesday… and hopefully a much better day (for both of us). 🙂
Good to catch your tail end anyway! Just think, now it is Tuesday…all will be better! :>)

Thank you NDD. That is just what we are trying to do.
If nothing else, this was one of those life learning experiences and she will take what positive lessons she can from it.
We continue to talk about racism and classism and this experience just gives us lots to talk about.
Did they have any constructive things to say about it?
I can’t get anything about what her teacher said. I gathered he just let the kids speak. He told her she did a fine job, but then again, he told most kids that.
