That 4 looks good on you
at least I hope so.
I had another BK night (Blame kansas, not Burger King). My eyes refused to close until I finished The Virgin of Small Planes. I hadn’t touched it in a week and it lured me with its blood-spattered cover right before I turned out the lights for sleep.
Good morning Andi.
What are you going to do for excitement today that could possibly match yesterday’s “Adventures with George”?
Depending what I encounter it might be more exciting.
Today the weedeating. 🙁
the dogs are doing their no snakes dance for you — no, wait, my mistake — it’s their come on, time for a walk dance.
See ya later.
See ya later, enjoy.
Am I too late for the early risers? This is actually my second awakening but I was too groggy to type anything at 5:45 when I was up the first time.
Morning everyone!
Um, I’m a late early riser…how are you this morning? How’s the visit with the boy going?
It’s going great. I’m having such fun just watching the kids all together again.
The boys almost done with school now?
Tomorrow is the last day. Woo-hoo! (I think.)
Tonight is 5th grade graduation for CBtY. Which reminds me, I must call my mother and tell her.
I used to love going to all my daughters plays and graduations. I just wish they had digital cameras back then.
It is fun to go to all these things, but I really need to RTFM for my camera, as AndiF would say. I have settings that I have no idea how to use. I was playing with them in Vegas, but had no idea what some of them were.
I’m the same way. I’ve probably used only about 40 per cent of the potential of my camera. What really surprises me is with my old 1.3 mp camera I came out with some really good picutres I think. I haven’t been able to match that with this one (5 mp) yet.
I decided it was just another avenue of being lazy I’ve gone down. One day I figure out everything it can do. 🙂
Hi SN and CG.
Good morning FM. If you put off the weedeating for another day you might get tropical storm Alberto to furnish you with a good excuse to wait even longer.
Hi. I’m happy to hear everything is going so well.
I was hoping for some rain, but we won’t get anything from the hurricane. It looks like you will though.
I don’t know my geography very well. I guess you are further west than the track Alberto is taking.
I’m trying to dazzle Owen with our nice weather and it looks like it’s going to be cloudy for his entire visit.
You can never predict those things. Hopefully he’s be dazzled by being home with the family and decided NC is the place to be.
Hopeful got me up at 3:30 howling — I told him he had better get it out of his system or I’d have to tape his mouth shut.
Now you’re turning the dogs against me before I even get there.
I’ll let him know you’re all for howling dogs in the night.
My chocolate lab, Bailey, used to howl every time a fire engine went by. I brought him to the group home that I worked at and all the guys said he was singing. J called him the Elvis dog.
on the infrequent occasions we get sirens out here, I get three-part harmony howling which I find weirdly charming.
I used to like that too. It was like he was sympathizing with whoever was in trouble and I found that touching.
I used to want to do that with Henry, George’s brother, but he was a Pekingese had had no nose to speak of.
I wish something new would bloom in my yard – but for now I’ll just continue buying grocery store daisies.

That’s magnificent SN. You really need to think of opening up your own b. Your pictures are just to wonderful to post every now and then.
But as you must surely know, having your own blog is work. 🙂
Do you think I would be doing it. 🙂
I know your secret. You talk a good game as a slacker, but you really do work your ass off.
Don’t ever let that get out. 🙂
Pretty, pretty. Are the daisy really purple or is it the light?
They’re a really soft pink but the light outside was fading. Don’t you hate those daisies they sell where they must put them in dye to make them unnatural colors like magenta and Smurf blue? These are natural.
I never look at flowers or plants in stores so I would never know that they did this. But it sure sounds like an ugly thing to do.
It’s like a naturally beautiful little girl wearing makeup. It just makes me sad.
Howdy all,
Fighting the after effects of insomnia at the moment. I’m trying to put my brain together enough to get some writing done. If at all possible I need to get a couple thousand words today. We’re ground zero for a family reunion of sorts this week and I’m thinking writing time is going to be precious and rare.
Today’s tea: Keemun Hao Ya A. Looks lovely. Every Keemun I’ve ever had has been fantastic and this is a real premium tea.
TTFN – I might buzz through and lurk, but I’m really going to try not to comment today, at least until I’ve got my words in the can.
I’m with you. I feel like I’m fighting off a decade’s worth of insomnia all at once. The last week has been hell. All of these two twenty two hour days are catching up with me. I can’t figure out why my body has decided to give in now, but I’m not happy about it.
Hey Chris,
Didn’t mean to ignore your post, just got distracted. I hope your day picked up. Mine did. I never managed to completely wake up, but I did get 2,200 words in. Woot!
I’ve had problems with insomnia all my life but it’s been particularly fierce the last few months. Something that my newest housemate innocently does is setting off some sort of PTSS I think from a time when I lived with an out-of-control drunk who would barge in and bother me while I was sleeping. Nothing seems to work other than sometimes hydrotherapy (which is what they used in mental hospitals before drugs): immersing or showering for as long as possible in body-temperature water. Last night I started naming the insomnia demons: Meanie, Queenie and Beanie, Bernie & Vernie, Sammy and Whammy, etc.
If Damnit Janet or folks from yesterday’s Fleet week diary are around here’s a story for you:
Friends from yoga class were heartbroken when a Marine recruiter convinced their son to join up and nothing they could do would change his mind.He reported for base camp and the first letter they got from him last week was “Holy sh*t, this place SUCKS!”. Cold comfort for them though.
long time no see around the cafe! I’ve been a nightowl for as long as I’ve been alive. My parents call it the ‘Fast and Furious Second Wind’. It hits between 9 and 10:00pm As I’ve gotten older and daytime schedules become more solid, it has intruded on getting a full night’s sleep. My biggest trick after tossing and turning for too long of a time is to get up and do exercises/stretches in my living room. For some reason, the tensing up of my muscles makes the relaxing that much more enjoyable when I return to the bed and I usually pass out.
Regarding the marine recruit, hopefully he will continue to dialogue with his family about the struggles. He’s going to need their support.
Apparently so. This was Bud right before he fell over unconscious. He was tired from playing for a full five minutes.
Hi Manny, I was just looking around reading some diaries. I’ve seen that look many time from just looking in a mirror. But then again, Bud’s ears are a little smaller then mine. 🙂
How’s the day going so far?
ha, made me snort/laugh. The day is so-so, taking breaks here and there to check in on the cafe. How’s yours?
Mine is about the same. As usual any plans I start out with seem to get put to the side, just to be revisited later on.
Have things slowed down any at work?
I have two more weeks until the replacement in my department starts working with us. Then I’ll be responsible for training her 🙁 Oh well, at least there will be another human to answer phones around here (we’re also without a receptionist)
Taking it day-by-day.
Just got back and now I’ve got to run. It appears my daily errands are just starting.
You’ll be there soon with your office. I just hope they know how lucky they are to have you.
I’ll check back later.
Izzy — looks like a no-go for a get-together this visit 🙁 ; spouse wants to catch up on all the shit we’ve not seen in over 10 years. He had a late morning, so is just now in the shower; I was nice and got him breakfast downstairs at the secure vacation bunker.
Today’s plans — I insist we get to Experience Music Project and the Science Fiction Museum today; we may just do a quick overview of both and save a detailed exam for a future visit. We’ve also yet to squeeze in a ferry ride or several so that may be on today’s agenda. Weather is scheduled to be scattered showers…we can handle it. Predicted T-storms for last night never materialized, at least not here in town, but it was nice to stay in and relax anyway.
Interesting news about possible changes at MSNBC — I posted details in the News Bucket. (We get free newspapers here at the secure vacation bunker…very cool…)
Think I’ll catch a nap before spouse gets out of shower…
feel free to send any and all vacation rain in my direction. Let us know how the Music Project and Sci-Fi Museum turn out, sounds like a lot of fun (I’m a musically-inclined geek, we are legion around here apparently)
Hey, Cali, thanks for letting me know and no worries! I’m glad you guys are enjoying your vacation! I hope you have fun at the museums. You’ll have to let us know what they’re like — I STILL haven’t been to either one. Have a great trip!
I know you’re lurking. Might as well de-cloak and tell me how your day is going. [bad-angel grin]
I am lurking because I feel lousy. 🙁 It’s my autoimmune disease. I’m in what appears to be a major flare, probably caused/made worse by all the activity & stress around moving, so I have a massive list of symptoms acting up. But it’s nice to be able to sit quietly in the corner while you guys chatter and play, instead of sitting alone in bed with just the TV for company. I rate to let y’all know I’m here because it’s kinda creepy otherwise, right? ;p
I’ve met Creepy and that’s not her. I thought maybe you were busy RTFM for your new cell phone. 😛
Feel better! (((Indy)))
It sucks to be sick. I hate it.
Indy I hope you get to feeling better soon.
Thanks, you guys. 🙂
Healing thoughts on the way. Get well. BTW, I’ve been keeping an eye on your blog, some very nice writing there.
Want to make sure that everybody sees Hadji Girl before it disappears. Is it Morning in America yet?
Morning in America was canceled due funding cuts. It has been replaced with Mindless Recrimination in America and Folders Crystals.
Damned typos! I need a nap. WAAAAAHHHHH!
for Damnit Janet (I’d put it in the news bucket, but then she’d never see it…)
Code Pink at Take Back America
reading that from Susie’s blog that BooMan linked on the frontpage. Disgusting. I’m tired of only the “acceptable” people being admitted to gatherings. It’s the strong-armed tactics of the bipartisan war caucus that is most shameful and destructive, imo. (deep breaths….)
come on over to the Froggy Bottom Lounge to help celebrate EuroTrib’s one year anniversary.
