I do believe you enjoyed the choral presentation. They had a surprising diversity of material for grade schoolers, from Sondheim’s “Together Wherever We Go” to “Swingin’ On A Star” to “Love Potion #9.” The kindergarteners did a Recycle Rap and my granddaughter’s class did a song about how we, the children of the world want hate and violence to end.
You totally enjoyed the Wait Wait performance. Did you hear the show this past Saturday? You could have heard yourself laughing very hard. Calvin Trillin was the guest on the phone, and he was tres witty.
Yeah, I just listened to it tonight. I get a big kick out of Roy Blount Jr. and had actually forgotten about Trillin and his poems. I’m going to have to go look for “Heck Of A Job.”
Well, I’m (you’re) partial to Calvin because he’s a Kansas City boy, but Roy was completely charming, you’re right. It was fun to see what Corey Flintoff (sp?) looks like. Tall, gangly, grey-haired, pleasant, modest demeanor.
Half his striking distance???!!!! Knucklehead, are you a knucklehead??? 🙂 Cool photo, though.
Today must be snake day. A friend just told me she found a snake in her DINING ROOM. A little fellow, but still. . . She thinks she transported it all the way from Okla in a box she picked up near a Dumpster.
Actually I`ve handled quite a few rattlers & have a healthy respect for them. They are beautiful reptiles & also helpful around here. I`ve won a lot of money on bets with these snakes, but never harm them.
No, although I readily handle them. The bet is this.
A number of snakes are in a plastic tub covered with clear plexiglass.
You have to put your hand on the plexiglass & not yank your hand away when the snake invariably strikes.
I will never move my hand.
Everybody else will. I win
As a kid many moons ago, I saw an old western where an Indian was doing this, laughing at the stupid “white man” while taking their money. I remembered how he did it.
Those are some impressive snaky pics ya got there, man. Best viewed from afar, such as digitally, in my book. I like our garter snakes, but those guys of yours are downright intimidating.
How about my REVERSE GOLDENTAIL MORAY. This one I accidently killed
when I added a liquid to the tank that I leave settle for 24 hrs. The washing machine had gone haywire on the porch & mixed up the settled layers in the liquid rendering it poisonous. It`s something I do on a daily basis with this water mixture but fate dealt my eel a death blow. http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/8310/woodpilecroppedflatdscn69442vz.jpg
A pro is an amateur who takes money. I do a lot of things in which I`m considered a pro. The under water stuff is more because I also work with coral reefs. I presently have 5 different coral reefs in my house. I work on a few reef sites & am currently compiling a profile for as many fish, corals, snails, crabs, shrimp & every marine creature there is. The profiles consist of many sub cat, ie: max.size, diets, compatability with conspecifics, venomous, natural location, water temp, salinity, ect, ect.
These cat. are also sub divided into other different ones & any observations that might help some one make a decision on whether a certain animal is one they would feel comfortable being able to care for.
I also do custom designs of complete homes & cabinetry, sometimes including the, furniture. I personally build everything I design.
If you go to the photofair from last year, I had included a stone cottage on the beach that I had then recently completed. I design & build home theatres, set up aquariums bla bla bl,,,.
So even though I do sell some of my photos, I`m only a hobbyist. big deal eh
I remembered the cottage because of the spectacular site, but had forgotten your reef and fish shots…impressive undertaking, as well as avocational resume.
I really liked the fluffy crab you had up the other night in the open thread. You said it was a natural born killer — I don’t think it sunk in that you really meant that until just now.
Yes that one. The second pic I sent with “FLUFFY” was the same crab. In the pic it`s sitting on a leather coral eating a hermit crab he had just killed, hence the name.
Nice of you to remember, so here`s a succulent for you.
It`s how I planted the beach cottage. http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/7648/vase13nq.jpg
Just to continue proving the point … Prairie Mallow captured earlier tonight.
How’s everyone doing tonight? I see KB and Kansas and Knucklehead oh my!
Btw Knucklehead, got a flower pic tonight that reminded me a bit of the stuff you do with them … almost a face, and better than the Virgin Mary grilled cheese sandwich, at least.
Yup, only have the Are You Ok? disc, but would like to have more. They were great while they lasted! Glad you like the flowers. They’re very fresh, as it were.
Those snakes were damn scary looking. Glad they don’t live this far up here. All we have are garter snakes, and those are just fine by me. Hated running into Coral Snakes and Water Mocassins all the time when I lived down in FL.
It’s a native species of mallow that mimics hollyhocks, though is truly perennial. Just showed up here about 6 yrs ago, we liked it and decided to let it stay. It spreads a bit, so we’re always giving some away, but it’s a nice showy plant… like little hollyhocks.
Oh, and amazing pic (as always!) of the granddaughter! I like the stuff you do a lot.
Things are just winding up for summer here. Thought I’d post this because Olivia’s been pestering me about doing more “big picture” type views, so I’ve been trying, though my instinct is to get up way close. Lol.
Here’s another view of the bed, but from the edge of the corner (from the left of previous pic).
There’s a lot more going on in this bed than immediately meets the eye. 🙂
Just trying for some perspective, eh. And one of these days I’ll get it right. Notice the lysimachia blooming in the background there? Been trying to get some new pics of it, but every time I’ve tried it’s been windy and they all came out blurry. 🙁
Honestly, I’m not really sure. I may have it on already, but as Andi would probably tell me RTFM and find out! I’ll check into that though… remember, we’re just talking a little ole Fuji FinePix2650 here after all.
I just GOOGLED your camera, and found you have lots of settings to play with, but most nbly a macro setting for close up. Also, zoom function:
Equipped with a Fujinon 3x zoom, 6-18mm lens (the equivalent of a 38-114mm zoom on a 35mm camera), the 2650 offers an automatically-controlled aperture range from f/3.5 to f/8.7 (with maximum and minimum values dependent on the lens’ zoom position). Focus ranges from 2.6 feet (80 centimeters) to infinity in normal mode, with a Macro setting ranging from 3.9 inches to 2.6 feet (10 to 80 centimeters). In addition to the 2650’s 3x optical zoom, the camera also offers up to 2.5x digital zoom. (Maximum digital enlargement depends on the image resolution.) I always remind readers that digital zoom decreases the overall image quality, since it only enlarges the center pixels of the CCD image.
So, are you shooting your close ups on macro setting?
Leave it to Sherlock-livia! lol… Yes, I use the macro all the time, in fact it was the main reason I bought this one since a friend of ours had the 2250 and I loved what the macro could do. Have to admit I’ve never quite figured out the zoom though. You know I’m just a schlemiel with a P&S cam hoping for the money shot, heh.
Not those kinds of money shots! Jeebus, get your mind out of the gutter, lol! Too tired to go there tonight, and besides, Kamakyha isn’t here. (I know that’s weaseling.) For another time.
Oh and about the rocks question earlier… we got them from our lawyer neighbor across the street after he had his lot done with them. We help him landscape in return. Can’t believe it’s already been 3 yrs now that we built the whole thing out front. Still not finished along the walk either, but I’m hoping that will happen sometime this summer.
What`s up, are you on a sailboat taking pictures? {windy, blurry]
Really nice garden. That`s a lot of flowers, & I bet you have names for all of them.
Very nice.
They all have names but most of them came with them already attached. Lol, no sailboat, it’s just been very windy lately when I get out to try to take pics after work. I do have to get going on cataloguing everything, but I get psyched out whenever I even think about it.
Ok one more… this one made me think of your work, due to the “face.” Not the best shot I’ve taken, but it has a certain je ne sais quoi.

Glad you share my sentiment there. My current greatest gardening aspiration is to be known for 2-3 plants … Delphiniums and Hibiscus. Toad lilies are creeping in there though as well … and the Dragon Arum which is taking its old sweet time to gear up to blooming. Just hope it does it this year.
Contemplating a big of bloggering tonight, but the hour draws late, so conflicted on that. I vowed to get to bed earlier tonight (again). Maybe I should just give up on that.
A bit of both, I think. Maybe I’ll do another drive by post and call it a night. But I do have better stuff planned to write. What do you think? Drive by post of something cool I posted tonight or surprise people?
I got to watch the third period. The CBC announcers were saying dumb things like “Where do they find the energy at this point in the series?” Well DUH dummy, it’s game 7 of the Stanley Cup, yit’s not like you have to save anything for tomorrow.
Yeah … I think it’s time for ol Harry and Bob to hang up the skates … they’re the butt of many jokes up here. Tonight I watched the NBC feed for the p-by-p, and then switched back to HNIC for the intermission stuff.
I do that with the Mariner games sometimes. I’ll switch off the TV audio and listen to the radio play-by-play. Even though it’s the same set of announcers, I like the description on radio better.
it’s not like you have to save anything for tomorrow. Lol, Omir! I can always count on you for a great grin. How’s life out in the great upper left coast tonight?
Pretty good, actually. The Queen of the Universe is reading me a story, after which I get to read to her. I will get about five minutes into the story and she’ll be sound asleep.
another long Monday. Just not enough time to spend in the garden these days and so much to be done it drives me a bit bonkers. But it’s always that way when you’re a frenetic gardener like myself, lol.
Hey youse guys. Or all ya’ll. Party on.
And you too — dear froggy.
Just got back from seeing the Indian film, “Water.” It’s still resonating in me. Half of the audience sat stunned and not moving after it ended.
Hi! I was just thinking about you!
Well, ain’t that a coinkydink! And here I am. T’sup?
Just wanted to give you a hug — {{kansas}}
Don’t know why.
Hey Kansas, how did I enjoy the Wait Wait taping?
I do believe you enjoyed the choral presentation. They had a surprising diversity of material for grade schoolers, from Sondheim’s “Together Wherever We Go” to “Swingin’ On A Star” to “Love Potion #9.” The kindergarteners did a Recycle Rap and my granddaughter’s class did a song about how we, the children of the world want hate and violence to end.
Yes, I definitely think you had a good time.
I knew I would.

SECOND NATURE,
It`s a Black Diamondback Rattler.
I took that shot this morning from about 16″ away which was about 1/2 his striking distance.
Here`s a full body picture.
http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/2153/diamondbackdscn69005sm.jpg
Half his striking distance???!!!! Knucklehead, are you a knucklehead??? 🙂 Cool photo, though.
Today must be snake day. A friend just told me she found a snake in her DINING ROOM. A little fellow, but still. . . She thinks she transported it all the way from Okla in a box she picked up near a Dumpster.
Actually I`ve handled quite a few rattlers & have a healthy respect for them. They are beautiful reptiles & also helpful around here. I`ve won a lot of money on bets with these snakes, but never harm them.
I meant to ask–did you win the money by betting you could pick them up?
No, although I readily handle them. The bet is this.
A number of snakes are in a plastic tub covered with clear plexiglass.
You have to put your hand on the plexiglass & not yank your hand away when the snake invariably strikes.
I will never move my hand.

the one’s up here are the brown, desert version. Looks to be a large one too.
It was pretty relaxed looking for you being that close…that’s what zoom lenses are for.
No zoom lens.
that’s what zoom lenses are for.
No shit! Word to the wise, Knucklehead! On the other hand, I’ve read that rattler bites are rarely fatal. Which is not to say they’re pleasant.
I suppose if you lived in Florida you’d be showing us photos of the inside of a gator’s mouth? 🙂
Florida?
Anything else?
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/2886/gatorsmouthdscn53244gi.jpg
Ha! But dead ones don’t count.
I`ll get back to you.
You are dangerous!
How about the MOJAVE Green. Now that`s a snake you want a zoom for.
Is that a kind of rattler? I’ve never heard of a Mojave Green. I’ll go google it.
Ah, yes, a rattler, it is. I gather it’s potent?
Those are some impressive snaky pics ya got there, man. Best viewed from afar, such as digitally, in my book. I like our garter snakes, but those guys of yours are downright intimidating.
as a “Black Tailed” Rattler?
No, but that one has a nice pattern.

OOPS!!
Sorry dada, here it is.

You said something about underwater photography last night too…are you another pro in our midst, like stormkite?
BTW, your PS work is amazing!
A pro is an amateur who takes money. I do a lot of things in which I`m considered a pro. The under water stuff is more because I also work with coral reefs. dada,
Oh, I forgot the next clue.
I have all my fingers.
I remembered the cottage because of the spectacular site, but had forgotten your reef and fish shots…impressive undertaking, as well as avocational resume.
… This one?
That’s very nice stuff!

The colours are amazing!
we used to hear rattlers in the schoolyard all the time, but I’ve never seen one.
Here`s the business end of this beauty. They`re all around here & this one I might have shot a few months ago.
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/6294/blackangerdscn69047jg.jpg
I don’t know if his poor heart could that that sight! LOL
Just to continue proving the point … Prairie Mallow captured earlier tonight.

Btw Knucklehead, got a flower pic tonight that reminded me a bit of the stuff you do with them … almost a face, and better than the Virgin Mary grilled cheese sandwich, at least.
Hey, IVG, your flowers have calmed me down after the snakes. Say, I read on a thread that you’re a was not was fan, too.
Yup, only have the Are You Ok? disc, but would like to have more. They were great while they lasted! Glad you like the flowers. They’re very fresh, as it were.

See… more pink, my dear. Tired here, but up for a bit still … dozed through Jon Stewart though 🙁
I’ve got mallow up too now.
Those look really fragile. The petals look like little fairy skirts.
Here`s my grand-daughter in the woodpile.
You seem to have quite the garden.
http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/8310/woodpilecroppedflatdscn69442vz.jpg
It’s a native species of mallow that mimics hollyhocks, though is truly perennial. Just showed up here about 6 yrs ago, we liked it and decided to let it stay. It spreads a bit, so we’re always giving some away, but it’s a nice showy plant… like little hollyhocks.

sorry ’bout Stanley O…he may have a southern accent by the time he gets back to Canada.
Hey IVG…get any rain today?
Nope. Not a drop except previously mentioned highly desultory shower late last night. Supposedly 50% chance overnight and 40% tomorrow. Uh huh.
Now for some perspective. Here’s part of the front boulder bed. Pink mallow closest to foreground is the one I posted a detail of earlier.
You got Bu back home and lounging with you tonight?
I love this view. Great photo!
🙂
It’s nice to see how all these plants fit together. C’mon, even you must admit that!
Just trying for some perspective, eh. And one of these days I’ll get it right. Notice the lysimachia blooming in the background there? Been trying to get some new pics of it, but every time I’ve tried it’s been windy and they all came out blurry. 🙁
If so, then switch it on and use your free hand to steady the plant.
Honestly, I’m not really sure. I may have it on already, but as Andi would probably tell me RTFM and find out! I’ll check into that though… remember, we’re just talking a little ole Fuji FinePix2650 here after all.

So what is it exactly you’re photographing there, hmmmm? 😉
You see the evidence every day. That’s my story, and I’m stickin to it. Besides, I have a café and b-thingie to feed ya know.
You did let it slip in one cafe … a job you had at one point … hmmmm? This could be good! Spill the beans toots … 😛
Not those kinds of money shots! Jeebus, get your mind out of the gutter, lol! Too tired to go there tonight, and besides, Kamakyha isn’t here. (I know that’s weaseling.) For another time.

Okay … that sounds familiar about the rocks. How do you keep the weeds down?
What`s up, are you on a sailboat taking pictures? {windy, blurry]

What glorious flower beds, IVG. Thanks for sharing.
gardening is all about sharing. At least that’s our philosophy (for the most part … nobody lay a finger on my delphiniums though!).
nobody lay a finger on my delphiniums though
I hear ya! If I had them, I’d kill anybody who. . .
Where’d you get all the rocks?
pretty much back to normal.
That’s okay … it was an excellent game, especially for the last one … 🙂 And Wesley was happy, so that’s a good thing.
How’d your day pass — Bu back safe and sound? Grid plans getting in order?
Sent a load of stuff (drawings) to the printer late today, have to get some photos and text together tomorrow….. then suit up and see what happens.
Yeah ‘s back…:{)
Suit up eh … I think I’ve got a pic of you:
🙂
There goes my anonymity…:{P
There is no such thing, dada. Didn’t you read all those diaries last weekend? Heh. Besides, that one’s way too old to be you.
He’s a stately gentleman. 🙂 It’s the other dude that’s an old grouch!
not so loud…tryin’ ta get O’s sympathy vote…:{)
Seriously! I’m still pretty put-out about that … 🙂
I know nuhtink…
Here, have some chocolate and listen to some soothing music…:{*)

Jan Gabarek: Clouds in the Mountain
Ya think you can ply me w/ choc, music, & smoochies and I’ll forget how the three of you conspired against me?
LOL
Nice music btw … 🙂
seems to have had a more profound effect that I thought…well, at least the music worked…:{)
and I truly haven’t a clue what you’re talking about…?!…that synapse won’t fire.
conspiring. Musta been that night dada posted the time warp renegade café or something, right? hehe
surely I’d remember a menage a trois…
Contemplating a big of bloggering tonight, but the hour draws late, so conflicted on that. I vowed to get to bed earlier tonight (again). Maybe I should just give up on that.
Give up on the bloggering or on the going to bed early?
A bit of both, I think. Maybe I’ll do another drive by post and call it a night. But I do have better stuff planned to write. What do you think? Drive by post of something cool I posted tonight or surprise people?
But don’t kill yourself there … this is supposed to be enjoyable and I fear that it’s causing you no end of grief lol!
I’m going to open a fresh cafe cause this one’s full up.
Don’t leave until I have it posted okay.
And they say that memory is the first thing to go right? Or is that hearing … 😛
it’s all in there, the access is sometimes slow…NOW, I got it…IMS, that was “equipment” failure on yer end…:{P
and I almost said it earlier, but didn’t want to stir things up, hehe. Short term shot, eh? Ya know what causes that sometimes dontcha?
I’m putting up a new cafe. BRB.
It just hit me: No More Hockey … ugh.
Yeah, how ’bout them Canes? 🙂
