For those you that don’t know, you can find SusanHu posting over at Larry Johnson’s No Quarter. Here’s her latest. Powerful stuff.

We drove away a powerful voice and an awesome writer. Who can we work on next?
Yeah, I miss SusanHu too.
I was in a phase of temporary distraction from the site when she left, and I found it pretty hard to figure out why it happened once I realised that it had. A major loss.
We’re pretty far along on spoon. (Jus’ kiddin’, spoon!)
But I too miss Susan.
that job is complete.
As for Susan, give her some love over there. It’s good to see her writing again.
Over where?
http://noquarter.typepad.com/my_weblog/2006/06/gop_abandons_ou.html
She’s been there for a while too, as I recall. I don’t visit No Quarter nearly enough, but I’ll say that the caliber of her writing is just as good over there as it was over here.
Thanks for posting that, BooMan, I was wondering where she’d gotten off to. Somehow I didn’t think she had given up blogging.
Why is Susan no longer posting here?
Do you mean spoon will no longer post on the front page? Is he gone like Susan without even leaving a juicy GBCW diary behind?
What do we need to do to get Susan back over here? I can’t comment over there because I don’t have whatever it is that allows you do so…
yup.
sweet.
i know if may seem bitter, but really, there was no choice given spoon’s behavior yesterday.
Hmmm…Spoon wasn’t a really good fit here.
If there is a front page space open, may I be so bold as to request a woman? Surely someone amongst us would like some front page access. Cabin Girl, Dammit Janet, Real History Lisa, Scribe, Stories in America, or any of the other (I’m sorry if I left you off the list, my memory is shallow and I know I have missed many good names) current women bloggers? This place really needs a more prominant female voice.
I also recommend Refinsh for a bit of pro-gay sound bites; another side that is too often left out of the discussion.
Can we forego another center to right white man? How about Man Egee or Duke for some non-euro ideas?
Let me also say that Steven D is just “the bomb”. He has brought so much to this forum and I, for one, am enamored by his style and grace. I love Chris too for his pandas and late night antics. Boo, you have done well at finding quality writers and thinkers, in addition to yourself, but a bit more diversity with respect to gays, women, and people of color would really add a lot to this site.
I strongly support the need for gender and other diversity on the front page. Although I think BooMan has found some good writers, I really, really miss SusanHu’s contribution and I think the range of front-page topics might be broadened with a more diverse crew.
I just wrote Susan a note to say hello. I’m not going to quote it, but her return does not sound likely for a variety of reasons.
I am still so sad about that. I really miss Susan. But, it is good to see she is still writing. I still think that if we could have all gotten together in a room and hashed the debate out face to face, things would have turned our differently and more understanding would have been had by all.
about peacepositive mike’s lovely car magnets
and the net neutrality vote tomorrow.
regarding front page posters (completely unrelated to any current or former ones.) I sort of suggested it a few months ago, but that was in a comment at the end of a very full diary.
Anyway, what do you think of some variation of this?
I’d like to see rotating, from within the community, front page posters… maybe for a week or two at a time. Possibly (depending on editorial needs) not doing the ‘breaking news’ stuff, but writing about things in their area of interest and expertise… whether that is immigration, activism, veterans/military matters, feminist matters, poverty, healthcare, cultural issues, book reviews and so on.
With lead time, people would be able to pre-prepare much of the material and also advertising of sorts could be done via the rss feed and other things to let people know that discussions on this or that topic will be happening on these days and it might draw in folks from other places.
I think this would have a couple of advantages… one, there would be more connection between the wider community and the front page, and also there would be more diversity, with things important to women, or minorities, the disabled, activists and whoever else covered from various points of view.
Of course, all this might be unworkable (or not relevant or whatever), but I figured I’d throw the thought out there :).
Sounds like a great idea.
I vote for a ‘feminist friday’ with rotating female guest posters.
Not sure we have any feminists here. 😉
What about ‘snarky sundays’ 🙂
I nominate you for that, Spidey! 🙂
aww shucks… 😉
and for my first piece…
How I learned to stop worrying and love flame wars
😛
Maybe you could dissect the recent flame wars taking place elsewhere…certainly a change of pace, don’t you think? 😉
Whoohoo! More meta fighting! I love it. Thanks CG for the tip!
… and off I go…
😉
Heh. That was…um…interesting.
Wow!!!!
Oh, that’s an idea! Probably an even better one… certain days of the week for guest posts on certain issues, which would provide continuity… everyone would know that if it’s Friday, it’s feminist guest post day.
We might run out of days of the week, but probably not since so many topics can come under various top level categories. Cool beans.
Just giving that an initial thought, I like the idea. We have folks on this blog who have knowledge & expertise on a wide variety of issues ranging from reproductive rights, to healthcare issues, to torture, etc, and who happen to be decent writers.
Yea, I know what you’re thinking and the world doesn’t revolve around THEM. The world right now DOES revolve around the World Cup and over here the Big Orange (i.e. The Netherlands) is playing my fav team – Argentina.
GO ARGENTINA!!!!!!!!!
Man, them Hollanders are just crazy!
Not that I’m biased, but smart choice!! 🙂
VAMOS ARGENTINA !!!
Happy World Humanist Day!
“Humanism teaches us that it is immoral to wait for God to act for us. We must act to stop the wars and the crimes and the brutalities of this and future ages. We have powers of a remarkable kind. We have a high degree of freedom in choosing what we will do. Humanism tells us that whatever the philosophy of the universe may be, ultimately the responsibility for the kind of world in which we live rests with us.” – Kenneth Phifer
