if you took their office water cooler and filled the bottle with white wine. I read that Bill Gaines did that at MAD Magazine once and had a great time watching his staff get swacked.
You’d never be able to read any of their reports but that’s OK because who ever reads them anyway?
We’ve officially passed the previous record for wettest Junes and it looks like more rain today and tomorrow. That after 3 years of drought. As long as it keeps the temp down a few degrees I don’t mind, even though everything smells faintly like mildew outside.
We have mushrooms popping up all over the yard. I even turned on the heat for a half-hour yesterday to dry things out a little. Paperback book covers are curling up, the furniture feels damp, and it keeps on raining…even the birds sound waterlogged now.
I was thinking of that the other day Second. The plagues and revelations.
One day on my way to the fleet week anti-militarization protest… I thought about what people do scare me. I’m not afraid of people like most “mainstream” news says to be.
I’m not afraid of different cultures or colors.
I’m not afraid of those juvie types with multiple piercings…
I’m afraid of the white guy with the shaved head, shoulders hunched up in anger, just looking for some pinko commie fag — and the big ass cross hanging from his neck. That’s the plague for me. Those “Rapture” types scare the bejeezus out of me. They are super duper violent.
I had an old man with a jesus fish thingy and a W/04 sticker pass me and flip me off.
A woman was driving down the road one day when somebody cut her off, so she leaned her head out the window, gave the other driver the finger and started swearing at him.
A cop who happened to be driving by immediately put on the lights and siren and pulled her over. She stopped the car, only to see the policeman draw his weapon, order her out of the car and tell her to assume the position.
She complied, and once she came up clean she asked the officer what that was all about.
“Well, I was driving by and I heard you swear at the other driver and flip him off. I also saw the Jesus fish on the back of your car, the crucifix hanging from the mirror, and the ‘Follow Me To Sunday School’ bumper sticker, so naturally I assumed the car was stolen.”
Oh my is it hot in Cascadia today-the third day of 100 degree weather. It’s already mighty warm-I tried running fans in the house before work to cool it down and got it down a few degrees. My housemate and I ate dinner in the living room last night where it was only around 80-salad, guacamole and raspberry cobbler.
stay cool, froggies
and I can’t believe it’s this freakin’ hot here. I knew it got hot for a few days.. maybe hit a 100 every other year or so… but damn… this feels like California fire weather.
Yeah, and I promised my kids I’d grill them up some food yesterday in exchange for helping my son move. This, however, gave me an excuse to sit outside under the patio umbrella on the deck where it was a good 15 degrees cooler than inside, and there was a breeze to boot.
So my grandson and I sat out there and ate ice cream for a while. Next time it gets this hot I’m going to tell his dad to bring the grandson’s bathing suit over, because if he’s like every other kid I know, when the weather gets that hot he will welcome an opportunity to go out and help me hose down the concrete in the back yard. This of course being an excuse to hose him down, which will rapidly turn into an excuse to hose me down, and thus has it been since the invention of the green garden hose.
I checked in a couple times too and there was never any new comments … of course I didn’t leave one myself … so, who knows. Or maybe everyone was out enjoying the rain and hail it seems BTers were deluged w/ this past w/e.
My Mom was asking that and I told her they better not. When they left the last time, they said everything was taken care of and it hasn’t even been 2 months yet. So if they start to talk about charging, I’ll raise hell.
Working OT. They’re having the annual fan giveaway here for low income and elderly people. Lots of old people have AC but they don’t run it because they don’t want big electric bills. How tragic. Every summer a couple of them die from the heat.
It’s sad because most of these people don’t have anyone looking out for them. If they just had a family member or neighbor that would check on them every day it wouldn’t happen.
You can have the camping part. I have trouble getting up off the floor of my living room when I’m daft enough to sit there instead of on the couch, which is also a gravity amplifier. If I went camping you might have to leave me there when it was time to pack up.
Been on vacation for 2 weeks…river rafting, camping, and road tripping through some of the most beautiful country in the west.
No internet, no cell, no TV…random radio…local papers…oh my – why am I here again???
Watch for a series of diaries on “How The West Was Lost”. Why Dems will always have a tough time getting the Rocky Mountain rural voters….oh my…what a vacation!
The mornings were cool – low 40’s – but the days were in the upper 70’s to low 80’s depending on whether we were in the mountains or in the prairie spaces.
I’ve been up Lolo Pass several times, and didn’t think you could see Mount Hood from that far away.
So I did a little research, and apparently there are two Lolo Passes, one on the MT-ID border, and one in Oregon. Sounds like you guys hit the one in Oregon, and the one I’m familiar with is the one on US 12 between the Tri-Cities, Washington and Missoula, Montana. We took US 12 a few times from our house in the Tri-Cities (about three blocks from the highway) to Missoula and then either US 10 or I-90, depending on which year we’re talking about, to visit my grandparents in Billings. Most of what I remember about it is, it seemed to be torn up and under construction a lot.
I saw that tree trunk and it just looked like a pirate ship to me. 🙂 It was really great to hang out with SallyCat. Her husband and mine enjoyed their time kayaking the river.
I’ve been looking at a few of the links you sent me, too (takes awhile on dial-up and work keeps interferring). My favorite so far is the one of Shinobi chilling out.
I must esssplayne… no there is too much. I shall sum up.
Shinobi is a strange Lab. She doesn’t care for water. Or maybe it’s just the water hose and the sound of the beach surf? Because she did take a quick hop into the river. Hopped in and then hopped out. Once. She felt proud I suppose. 🙂 She remained off leash most the trip. She was a very very good girly girl.
still in Boxer shorts but at least have a regular t-shirt on. U2 concert one to be exact.
I’m emailing like a crazy woman trying to pin down plans and carpool stuff for the action tomorrow.
I swear… peace activism organization is an oxymoron ;0 It’s like herding cats. I loe these people… and we have a video camera! and we have several joining us to stand vigil with the lone vigil dude.
to a diary on the event — and we’ve still got the traveler’s checks if needed even though we’re back in California… 😉
Trying to stay cool and breathing here in Silly Con Valley…the breathing is questionable with the damn cough that remains from my vacation cold. Going out to see if I can find something to knock it out short of hitting Urgent Care and getting the cough syrup with codeine.
Need to see if I can actually find something to eat around here…we still need to do our post-vacation grocery shopping…
Thanks Cali, but I’m not sure if I’ll have time to do a diary. Never did get to the Mother’s Day parade or the other events. I hope to have links to some “news” sites about it though.
Taking my camera for documentation and protection.
If we get arrested for merely standing along the way with signs and passing out phamplets of peace activism… then there is something horribly wrong with this free nation.. oh wait there is something wrong…
The AC man came by and fixed everything and even install a new thermostat. Didn’t charge us a thing. That’s the reason we stay with him because he’s a good man.
Things are going as normal. Family is moving around and George should have laryngitis by now. But nooooo. His bark is still as loud and grating as always.
Break out of the cube for a minute, if only virtually.
But… I always think outside of the box. So should I go get in a cube just to be different?? 🙂
That’s Janet, our Mary Mary Quite Contrary.

You’d never be able to read any of their reports but that’s OK because who ever reads them anyway?
Haven’t quite floated away in all the rain yet…will this ever stop?
How are you doing today, SN and Omir?
We’ve officially passed the previous record for wettest Junes and it looks like more rain today and tomorrow. That after 3 years of drought. As long as it keeps the temp down a few degrees I don’t mind, even though everything smells faintly like mildew outside.

Sounds like a biblical plague. Maybe the end of the world will be via mold instead of flames and rivers of blood.
I was thinking of that the other day Second. The plagues and revelations.

Wanna hear a story about that?

Raspberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream on top? That sounds like a wonderful dinner for hot weather.
and I can’t believe it’s this freakin’ hot here. I knew it got hot for a few days.. maybe hit a 100 every other year or so… but damn… this feels like California fire weather.

What’s going on? Where is everybody?
I’ve escaped my cube as SN suggested — for a moment though. 🙂
How’s things going down there?
Hey, Olivia. Glad to see so many faces after the slow weekend.
Wasn’t that a hoot though … One cafe lasted from Andi’s good morning to IVG’s goodnight. 🙂
It was weird – I’d check in every hour or so and there were no new comments. I thought my computer was frozen.
I checked in a couple times too and there was never any new comments … of course I didn’t leave one myself … so, who knows. Or maybe everyone was out enjoying the rain and hail it seems BTers were deluged w/ this past w/e.
Not much, just getting the house straight and waiting on the AC man again. For something that is supposed to be fixed, we keep having trouble with it.
How’s the day going so far?
We’ve have some really humid and hot weather the last few days and AC is a must. Can’t imagine what it’s like down there w/out it.
Still so far so good. Keeping a positive attitude is key to my having a better week. 🙂
Good for you Olivia. Positive attitude is the key.
I thought AC was unknown in Canada.:)
Huge blocks of ice that we carve out of our igloos.
It’s not widely known that AC in Canadian means Actually Chunks of ice.
Actually Chunks™
😉
I forgot about the igloos. Still trying to figure out how ya’ll build sky scrapers out of ice.
Do they charge you again to come out and fix what they didn’t fix in the first place?
My Mom was asking that and I told her they better not. When they left the last time, they said everything was taken care of and it hasn’t even been 2 months yet. So if they start to talk about charging, I’ll raise hell.
How’s your AC been doing?
Working OT. They’re having the annual fan giveaway here for low income and elderly people. Lots of old people have AC but they don’t run it because they don’t want big electric bills. How tragic. Every summer a couple of them die from the heat.
That’s tragic about the deaths and electric bills. There’s got to be a better way.
It’s sad because most of these people don’t have anyone looking out for them. If they just had a family member or neighbor that would check on them every day it wouldn’t happen.
It’s sad, but there are people like that everywhere.
A lot of children only think of themselves.
Hey, is your company gone?
Nope, looks like maybe next Monday.
I’ve already given up trying to find anything.
They’ll probably try to convince you that it’s a different thing this time.
Nope, I know better. They said they fixed the leak last time and it’s the same thing.
I gotta go for a minute. Family is up moving around.
Be back later.
I’ll have a heart attack on rye.
I’ll have what she’s having.
and the next day I could have my second favorite Jewish non-health food — salami and eggs.
I don’t wanna pickle. I just wanna ride my motor
cickle.
😀
Eat your heart out, I’m taking off work early on Wednesday to go see Arlo. So nyaaaah.
Yeah, well.. I … Uh…
Well…
um…
I went camping with SallyCat, neener neener. 😉
You can have the camping part. I have trouble getting up off the floor of my living room when I’m daft enough to sit there instead of on the couch, which is also a gravity amplifier. If I went camping you might have to leave me there when it was time to pack up.
Hanging out with Sallycat is cool, though.
I think my browser just gained four pounds.
Lolo Pass, MT/ID

Had a great time with you and Mr. Sallycat 🙂 Thank you so much for inviting us along… and for putting up with the teen angst. 🙂
Hey Sally, I could use some of that right now. It looks much cooler than what we have here in Seahottle right at the moment.
That’s Mt. Hood in the background….
The mornings were cool – low 40’s – but the days were in the upper 70’s to low 80’s depending on whether we were in the mountains or in the prairie spaces.
More pics when I do my diaires…

west of Missoula down through Idaho and back through Oregon back roads to Eugene. If it was a main highway we skipped it…
That pic isn’t one of mine…just a convenient pic…
We’ve got great pics of Three Sisters, Blue Mountains, Payette Mountains, Sawtooth Mountains….
Ah, so it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that you hit both Lolo Passes. 🙂
Sounds like a great time. I’m a great fan of back roads and “blue highways.”

I don’t know why either.. ARGH.
Nifty picture, DJ.
Looks like you had a truly wonderful time.
BTW, your links didn’t work because it has “…” in place of the correct name. Example:

should be

Thanks Andi. No idea why those … occurred.

Another week of this, hope I can make it. 🙂
I’ll drop in later.
Go get em George 🙂
I’m going to put up a happy hour in a minute.
Happy Hour open.
