For one reason and another, they extended the deadline to Thursday morning, so I’m not under QUITE as much pressure as I was earlier this week. But I am trying to get as much done as possible before I quit for the day.
Go to a friend’s 30th b-day party tonight – and listen to her say how ‘old’ she is! lol!
Clean the house of all the ‘vacation’ stuff that hasn’t been put away yet.
Weed the garden….let’s see 3 weeks of neglect and 1 morning…not a good match! ;^D
Take at least 1 nap a day…
Write diaries “What I learned on my summer vacation” and “How the West was Lost”. Both will be political in nature…
Write at least one diary on all the wonderful wild animals I saw on vacation…coyotes, osprey, eagles, big horn sheep, deer, elk, mama black bear and her 2 cubs…and more.
Baby Black Bear…
Oh and maybe have a cold beer and read some more…current book God is Red by Vine Deloria, Jr. (30th anniversary edition)
I don’t mean to be gross or anything, but if my mom were in your situation, she’d fill a few dozen eggs with dog shit. The danger in that is that the kids are using the eggs to throw at one another, in which case they probably won’t care. Hope that helps.
The next time you see them doing this, go out and have an extended talk with them about taking things that don’t belong to them.
Set up a springler by the entrance and douse them good.
By the entrance, dig a large pit with spikes… Nah that’s a little to harsh.
Take a basket of eggs over to the parents and tell them you had seen the girls acquiring some egg and if you had known they couldn’t afford eggs you would have been happy to bring them some before.
Take a picture of them going into the hen house, post it on the door with a big NO under it.
I like number 4…but I think it may be too subtle. These are the people whose black lab was continually coming into our yard (they’re too lazy to put his fence collar on) and finally bit CBtY. The dog was kept home for 3 months, but has begun returning to our yard again this week.
It really ticks me off that I even have to point this whole thing out to the little miscreants and their parents. I live where I live because I don’t want to be bothered with crap like this.
Maybe the slingshot isn’t such a bad idea after all.
BB gun is easier to aim, and yes I meant for the dog.
I don’t blame you for being upset by it, especially after the dog incident.
As far as the dog thing goes, after it bit CBtY, if I saw it in the yard again, I would definitely call animal control. Do as one of my neighbors did and have them come over and put up a trap.
Even though it will be unpleasant. Tell them that you saw the girls today taking the eggs. And tell them that if you see their dog in your yard you will call animal control. It sounds like a very unneighbourly situation.
One of the garden catalogs – maybe Gardeners Supply – has motion detector sprinklers just for animal control near gardens. Go on for just a couple of minutes.
What do you do if you have a dog that likes sprinklers?
When the girls were small and would play in the sprinkler, our big dog Teddy would go and sit on the sprinkler. It was always funny to see them trying to pull him off the sprinkler.
When I was in Germany they had a castle on the way to Frankfurt that they did up for halloween. I never went but I heard they put on a really good show.
Why not just do the decent thing and follow them, explain why what they are doing is wrong, walk them home, and explain the situation to their parents. If their parents are not home, contact the police and let them know these children are being left alone.
5 & 7? They are just kids. And apparently lacking in the caring parent department. Stealing eggs? Hopefully not lacking in the food department too. Anyway, probably best to cut them a deal (if they are good you’ll invite them over for egg painting or something…) rather than become the mean lady. That will just make the lure of the crime more attractive.
I agree with you. Although I did’t mention it in my original post today, this isn’t the first time the kids have come over and helped themselves to my belongings. And I did exactly what you suggested above when it happened then.
They are cute little girls, and not mean-spirited. All the same, they’ve been told by their parents and by me that they shouldn’t be coming over and helping themselves to my eggs. Coupled with the dog problem (which IS a big deal, with the biting of my son), I’m getting tired of it. I want the adults over there to act like adults. I have my own kids and dogs, which I try to keep out of the neighbor’s hair, and I just would like the same courtesy during my working hours. I feel like I am responsible when these kids show up, and it worries me that no one is paying much attention…
And money is not an issue with the parents. Trust me on that one.
I’m so glad it isn’t a money/lack of food issues. That’s what I was worried about when I first read it. That maybe their parents knew where they were going and were too embarrassed to ask you… blah blah
Since they’ve been told…
It’s time for a lock. Sorry about the neighbor sitch.
Hey there you pink sweetie you! I hope you’re feeling better than the other day. It’s been a rough patch for me lately as well, but hon, we’ll muddle through, we always do…(hmm, that sounds like a song lyric, lol).
Loved those pics of your roses the other day, and sooo cool you named one Olivia. Made me think I need to pick a plant in our garden to call Olivia… any suggestions? hehe…
Well gotta run for now, but great to see you DJ! You hang in there babe! {{{{{{{{{{{{{{DJ}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
Thanks IVG!!! You take care, too. Yesterday sucked ass. But not only did I cry here… I cried to CodePink and got some fantastic emails back from em. And I’ll be Lt. Watada’s big cheerleader as long as it takes. It was just such a kick in the stomach though
Cripes contempt of Bush… Bush IS contempt.
A plant for Olivia… something that ladybugs like to have sex on. That would be a good one. 🙂
Just stopping by after yet another hell week at work, but at least I can put it all aside for the next 2 days and try to get some garden work done around here (again). World o’weeds awaits, alas, but welcome to July in IA!
It’s day 2 (well day 1 1/2 actually) of the new pup, Andy, being here at our house. I think it’s going ok so far, though C tells me he’s suffering from some separation anxiety, which I suppose is to be expected. At least all 3 are getting along well –or at least tolerating each other!– for the time being.
I have noticed that Pepa doesn’t stray far from me now, and has attenuated her infamous independent streak for the moment, lol.
Hope everyone has a relaxing weekend in store, doing whatever suits your fancies! Looks like weeding, cleaning and buying a new mouse for me… my old one seems to have succumbed like Cali Scribe’s did, and doesn’t want to scroll anymore! At least they’re cheap these days, because after springing for that fancy home theatre set up last weekend, I’d better behave for a while!
Anyway, since it’s slow in here and I’ve got some stuff to do before KO, I’d better take off for now. See you late owls in the FBL later! I promise to stay up tonight or fall asleep in front of the computer, lol.
I will see you and the gang later if you’re here … even if I have to take a nap to stay up past 11, lol! But now that I’ve said my hellos (and I hate to do this) I better mosey out and pull a few weeds before KO comes on. Since I still don’t have the vcr connected properly to the new sound behemoth, I can’t just tape him and watch later… we gotta get that connectivity thing resolved this weekend! Any tips from your hubster on that one?
Glad you escaped cubihell for a few days, toots! We both deserve a break from that (and so does Manny, who I’ve not seen much this week, but then I’ve been scarce too…)
A-HA! Now we know what you get up to in your off hours before you end up in the FBL, Olivia! Gotta admire your ability to hang so gracefully there … you’ll never catch me doing that, but I might swipe one of the shades for headgear …
You have any cool day trips planned for this weekend O? And did you see dada’s cool jazz diary he has up? I seriously need to take some tutoring from him on that … I’m so woefully uneducated in that realm of music…
After several years of not… I finally went and bought me some new bras. Cripes I hate shopping for cloths…and I always put myself last on the list you know.
But today I was kinda pushed outta the house “GO GET WHAT YOU NEED NOW” but we don’t have much cash… “WE GOT MONEY FOR YOU TO GET WHAT YOU NEED!
So I have a pink and white bag from Victoria’s Secret. They had a good sale. Just bras… but I want to go back some day for some really suhweeeet black and pink “thingies”.
I bought a couple a new ones recently after an innerwire went outerwire … 🙂 I don’t like having to do it either, but once there … lots of lovely things that I want! 😉
I had a wire pop out and poke me hard in the skin. VS now has some underwire bra types without the wire. I forget what they’re called they felt like wetsuit material.
I bought two comfy cloth ones and one… racy Italian one. I couldn’t help it. I’m not in to those big, commando bras. I like the itty bitty teenie ones.
LOL… that cracks me up! Only you, DJ, would be so up front about that!
Which reminds me… ya know I work in market research, and yesterday the guy in the cube next to me was putting together a discussion guide for a study on underwear. One of the questions he was testing out to see what people want was “What do you look for in a bra?” I burst out laughing… then told him, “When I’m looking into underwear I pretty much know what to expect… at least if it’s my own!” Told him I bet the guys who would respond to that question might have some interesting answers!
It went pretty good. I got about half of it cut and got too hot, out of air and tired. So I came in the house, got some water and a cig and took a nap.
A bit of excitement about noon…my next door neighbour fell, and I may have strained something getting her up. She’s 95 and still lives alone, but her health is failing…still very sharp mentally thankfully.
Her family comes by quite often, and Meals on Wheels, etc. I get called along w/ several other neighbours who work from, or are home during the day. Today I guess I was the only one here.
You do what you can.
Did you see this Diary by kid oakland at dKos today? Recommended, he’s a very good and perceptive writer.
I’d post this as the week CRAWLS to a close…
What’s everybody doing this weekend?
How are you doing today?
(Btw, love the Anne Taintor stuff!!!)
I’m doing well, but running out of work day time to finish my project. sigh.
I love Anne Taintor…and have you ever seen the Mik Wright cards? They are hilarious.
It would be nice to have it out of the way for you fantabulous upcoming w/e.
No, I haven’t seen the mik wright — just googled though. 🙂
For one reason and another, they extended the deadline to Thursday morning, so I’m not under QUITE as much pressure as I was earlier this week. But I am trying to get as much done as possible before I quit for the day.
You love Anne Taintor and Mik Wright? We must be related!
Between that and our similar musical tastes, I wouldn’t be surprised. 🙂
Go to a friend’s 30th b-day party tonight – and listen to her say how ‘old’ she is! lol!

I’ll drop 4’s as comments come through…
It sounds like your vacation was wonderful…can’t wait to read about it!
Have fun at the birthday party-hopefully you’ll still have enough energy for the weeding over the weekend. 🙂
We’re off to the Blues Festival in Long Island with all the other Tribbers.
It is amazing to meet your long time friends face to face the first time. You’ll be surprised at the instant recognition…
Post pics when you can…
I’m really looking forward to meeting Spiderleaf and CookTing and Arthur, and seeing everyone else again. 🙂
I’ll definitely be posting pictures.
The neighbors’ daughters (ages 5-7) just cruised through my yard, trotted up to the henhouse, and helped themselves to the eggs.
I have 2 questions:
Where are there parents? My house is a fair enough distance from theirs that someone should have noticed them missing.
How do I kindly put a stop to this? I think the recent decline in egg production is due to an accelerated collecting of the eggs.
Sheesh.
slingshot.
Maybe for the AWOL parents…
I don’t mean to be gross or anything, but if my mom were in your situation, she’d fill a few dozen eggs with dog shit. The danger in that is that the kids are using the eggs to throw at one another, in which case they probably won’t care. Hope that helps.
The list is endless. 🙂
Nah not really, I would have had George just go after them.
He’d bark every time they came around at the very least, so you’d know how often it was happening.
That’s funny because that the only redeeming factor in his barking.
I like number 4…but I think it may be too subtle. These are the people whose black lab was continually coming into our yard (they’re too lazy to put his fence collar on) and finally bit CBtY. The dog was kept home for 3 months, but has begun returning to our yard again this week.

I did try to call them when I saw the girls cruising through the yard. No answer.
I guess I’ll have to suck it up and talk to them after dinner.
One of the garden catalogs – maybe Gardeners Supply – has motion detector sprinklers just for animal control near gardens. Go on for just a couple of minutes.
Here’s one that I quickly googled… http://www.backyardstyle.com/shop/index.php?page=shop-flypage-2573
The pictures for that are so funny! Thanks, ‘cuz I needed a laugh.
What do you do if you have a dog that likes sprinklers?
When the girls were small and would play in the sprinkler, our big dog Teddy would go and sit on the sprinkler. It was always funny to see them trying to pull him off the sprinkler.
An attack rooster, perhaps?
Too cruel…and annoying to everyone else in the neighborhood. Not to mention the hens.
Rooster with a law degree? Nah, even more cruel and annoying.
If worse comes to worse…
Good locks make good neighbors.
Oh no, not the flaky paint!
What can I say. I googled a picture and it says it came from an historic Philadelphia prison.
Not the Eastern State?
I’m not sure and now that I’m looking for it again, I can’t find it.
Just found it again. Yep it is.
I think they do scary tours there at Halloween.

‘Cause the w/e is starting thank the great FSM… 🙂
Happy Hour Chandelier …

Catch you later…
speaking of breaking out the good stuff.

See ya pink babeeee!
What do I look for in a bra?? 🙂
The only time I look in mine is because I dropped something while eating a snack and it ain’t in my lap or on the floor.
There’s only one other place it went. BOOBAGE AREA.
That’s one big bra!
How was your day? Still have both feet attached?
It went pretty good. I got about half of it cut and got too hot, out of air and tired. So I came in the house, got some water and a cig and took a nap.
Other than that, not much going on.
How about you? Have a lot of work today?
… except that nasty cig bit. 🙂
My day was crap! But it’s over now … so I’m feeling really good.
I knew you would say the except. That’s why I added it. 🙂
Today is behind you and you’ve got all weekend ahead. Enjoy.
That’s not nice. 🙁 Doesn’t Family Mom ever get on your case about it?
Yeah… Once I hit the doors it was like I was a new woman… Funny how that happens on Fridays at 5pm. 🙂
Have you heard anything from Andi and SN?
Haven’t hear anything from them since this morning. I guess they’re having to much fun to bother with us. 🙁
They’ll say hi and then good night! LOL …
They’ll just taunt us.
Did you? 🙂
I would say yes, but they might be lurking. 🙂
So I’ll say they are the nices, kindest, and sweetest people I know.
Thanks a million! 🙂
after hockey season’s over, eh…I think I might like Canada…:{)
We have to find all sorts of wild and wonderful ways to fill the time … 😉
How was your day d?
A bit of excitement about noon…my next door neighbour fell, and I may have strained something getting her up. She’s 95 and still lives alone, but her health is failing…still very sharp mentally thankfully.
Sounds like my 99 year old great aunt. Lived by herself until 96, fell and now in a nursing home. She’s still as sharp as she ever was.
You were right dada, KO’s diary was good.
Falls in the elderly are a major hazard … Is she ok? It’s not your lat again is it?
It’s not one of those male strains I hope …
I don’t think any major damage tho…if it wasn’t for bad luck, I wouldn’t have any…:{l
So sorry d … and you doing a good deed and all … do you think you should go to your doc?
But of course… what do you think I wear under those hockey jerseys, eh??? 🙂
It gets cold in them areans…
I’m in the market for a fake fur bra. Those damn feather ones… although lovely… don’t wash well.
🙂
That is too damn funny!!!!
’cause you’re the hero of BT!
The new lounge is open!
Come on over…
