Since all things orange have a way of being of the most intense interest to the BT community despite the protestations of the Kossack Protestants of the Kossack schisms (pie fight, et al), I present to you a thread for the discussion of all things of an orange nature.
Keep it clean. Children may be watching. Here’s a teaser.
Markos Moulitsas Zúniga, founder and chief firebrand of the liberal blog Daily Kos, sounded weary in a post after the conclusion of his convention in Las Vegas last month. “I have a few pre-existing media obligations to finish off,” Kos wrote, “then I’m going dark for a while. At least that is the hope. The media glare is not something I crave.”
The temptation to wax incredulous here is nearly irresistible—given that Kos had just appeared on Meet the Press and sat down to chat with Maureen Dowd. But the truth is that his cravings are by now immaterial, since the media’s appetite for all things Kos is apparently insatiable. And so one day we read David Brooks opining in the Times about Kos’s hubris and caprice. The next we read about his feud with The New Republic over various allegations and betrayals. And still the next we read in Newsweek about “his plans to seize control of the Democratic Party.”
who gives a dried apple damn what happens at daily kos? Not I.
If the news media gets involved in meta discussions, it won’t be any fun for them at all…because all the vitriol will be turned towards them.
I seriously doubt that the corporate media will be able to grasp the basics of ‘meta’.
‘I am the most orange soul alive’

myself pieless. I no longer wish to chuck pies at him. During his description of the newbies and the old timers that continuously cruise through Orange and seeing myself in those words I find myself viewing Orange as the gateway to the building of a much larger infrastructure! People find their political voice and then tend to peel off into the areas they wish to be most involved in. We are savvy, well informed………oh look out. I can also see where Markos will be going dark for awhile, the landscape we all belong to right now heaves and roils exponentially at times being fertilized with many facts and even more intellect. You can’t fight people power though, its the strongest force on the planet and even here at little BMT the combined forces of energy here can be felt powerfully if you are just reading and lurking. Hell, I lurked for quite awhile……just couldn’t believe that people just got on here and said what they thought and bounced stuff back and forth and all around…and experts in different fields would show up and join in with everybody.
Now there’s a guy a girl can pick on.
because I love Armando. Everyone should really shun me for that. Does anyone keep track of Marisacat’s latest? Because she uncritically lists me as part of some Boyz club that does the bidding of some misogynistic cabal of insider assholes. God love her.
Can’t tell if you’re being facetious or not.
But I hold the highest disdain for Armando. I cannot stand his attitude problems.
No. I am friends with Armando and I not being facetious. Is he an asshole? Most emphatically, YES. Never said otherwise and never defended him on that score. He knows that I will not defend him and he is okay with that. Kind of. No, he is okay with that. Sort of.
I’m not bias you are…I wonder who said that?
think……sort of. He was cracking me up the other night when the Orange ran red over MSOC’s diary. I really just read it to laugh my butt off and I was drinking beer. Drank two beers after not eating many carbs for about a week and I was drunk as hell and laughing like a loon.
I am probably one of the very few people on this blog (or any) that actually met Armando face-to-face. I liked him there. I disagree with quite a bit of his commenting, but his diaries are almost always of great calibre.
he is a good guy, but I will never defend his behavior in the orange threads.
I jabbed him the other day, and he suggested that he would have to get BooMan to give him a front page slot to annoy me further.
I told him that would be great. And he laughed. I completely think you should extend the offer. Imagine the great whopping pissing matches we could all have if Armando lived here.
I’m quite serious. Make the offer BooMan. Who knows. Maybe he will come.
we have laughed many times at the chaos that would result if he tried to post here. Obviously, it will never happen. He cannot abide by our rules.
people on that MSOC diary. It was kind of really evil and I was laughing in a really sick sort of way alone in the kitchen all by myself.
but without the ‘tude.
I could admire his writing — from a distance — but not the ‘tude. Could possibly be a cultural thing, from what I’ve read in the “outing” articles.
Keep up your great writing — but don’t pick up the ‘tude, dude…
but at least she is one of the few asking questions that need asking on the left. The right and media are having a field day while most on our side try to pretend it isnt happening and that their is nothing to discuss.
Kudos to Marisacat.
who is just a rude wanker with nothing worthwhile to say? Oh and a hypocrite too.
Anyway better stop ther or I will be fixated on him;)
From the Armando Archive…”could the poster of this diary please delete it or edit it for content.” 🙂
Geez..when are they going talk about the pond?
have you ever noticed how people love to classify things? i’m thinking particularly of diaries here, as with whoever’s project it was to determine the diary archetypes – the most famous of which, i think, being the Goodbye Cruel World species.
the value of classification is obvious, but i’ll restate it anyway: classifications allow us to substitute a symbol set for a much more complicated reality, about which we couldn’t think. the trick, of course, is getting that symbol set to represent the reality well enough. as Einstein said: we must make things as simple as possible, but not too simple.
so, anyway, when i think of dkos what interests me is the search for a way to properly classify it. such a classification would incorporate a set of salient, characteristic, features.
one being – and this may not be the most important one, but it’s the one that strikes me most – the love kossacks demonstrate for creating a cosmetic self-image. most of these seem inspired by the attention of the world outside dkos. you know, the “Hello Newsweek readers, this is Dkos” sort.
they fascinate me because they strike me as unrealistic (‘cosmetic’). for example, there’s always a bit about how diarists can discuss anything they want in their diaries, except, of course, stuff that’s obviously bullshit. it’s the way they gloss over ‘obvious bullshit’ that i find significant. meaning: any classification used to describe dkos would have to take into account the way in which kossacks confidently buy into their sense of objectivity.
i’m wondering, in fact, if groups have to become unselfreflective to some degree in order to succeed. i keep going back in my mind to the story of Moses coming down from Sinai and, being seriously wigged by the calf worship going on, promptly orders mass murder to purge the unbelievers from the real Israelites – the true Reality-Based Community™.
so maybe i’m approaching a partial classification, in likening Kos to Moses, leading the netroots out of Egypt and so forth… and orchestrating the internal purge in the desert.
thus ends this missive.
And I am?
And I am?
You, my dear man, are the leader of a truly dangerous bunch of misfits.
Folow me and there might be a dangerous outbreak of peace.
OK, now you’re sounding like one of those damn McGovernites with modems. Enough with the peace already, we’ve got gates to crash!!!
<since I snark so seldomly, maybe I’d better identify this as such, just to be on the safe side>
(you might have to watch “mccabe & mrs. miller” again to get the reference, but…)
i’d say you are the froggy in the pocket.
You really can’t blame him for wanting to get out of the spotlight these days. Karl’s spin machine is dogging him.
He must be feeling really rinsed and fluffed by now.
How do you make that ú with the thingy over the u?
Dailykos? Super. Super little web page. Gonna save the world. Which is always terrific.
You can make the little accents and other special characters if you compose your text in Microsoft Word, and then you cut and paste it into the comment window here on the blog. Look up “keyboard shortcuts for international characters” in Word’s help menu and it gives you a list of the common accent characters along with the appropriate keystrokes to implement them. Also look up “special characters” in the help menu to see more stuff.
If you don’t have “Word” I know of no other solutions to your question.
lazier than that, especially dealing with the extra accents in spanish. I just google for the word I’m trying to write and cut/paste it from the search items when I find one that I’m looking for (and they say a magician never reveals secrets) 🙂
I might be lazier. I used to do it your way myself. Then I decided that if I did it the other way with the keystrokes in Word then eventually I’d remember those strokes and it would be even easier. So I started writing a lot more to friends in Europe, (which was a fun thing to do anyway), and Voilà, (Ctrl-grave-a), there it is. Now I remember most of the common accents.
The specialized characters, along with other symbols, are in the high-ASCII range. If you’re using Windows, find the Character Map in the System Accessories and you’ll find the Alt-#### codes to generate them. © is Alt-0169, for example; ñ is Alt-0241.
If you’re on Mac, can’t help except I know it’s possible.
it provides a good character map with keystrokes for various operating systems. If you use the “Alt + whatever” column, you have to use the numbers on the 10-key pad on a standard desktop keyboard. It doesn’t work with the regular numbers, for some reason unknown to me.
that cool stuff.
Thanks ManEE — I especially like that they give the Mac equivalents as well as Windows… 🙂
I am trying to use my machine like tendencies in two areas, golf and in sensing logical expression (or when ideas are not logical). In the golf area, well the perfect golfer would be a machine that could execute exactly the same why given certain input parameters. Sadly, my version of the human body will just not cooperate in this endeavor.
On the logical expression sensoring issue, I am happy to report much better results. I tend to be able to sense illogical or fundamentalist/religious or censorsed materials quite quickly, and as soon as my sensor tells me that some or all of these faulty thinking tactics are present, then I know that the interaction is not longer meaningful on a scientific or logical level. Bottom line is that I no longer can participate over at KOS because the censored alarm (including forced group think) in my head has been going off way too much lately!
