John Conyers has a new report called the Constitution in Crisis. This is a preview of next year’s reckoning:
The laws implicated by the Administration’s actions include federal laws against making false statements to congress [sic]; federal laws and international treaties prohibiting torture and cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment; federal laws concerning retaliating against witnesses and other government employees; Executive Orders concerning leaking and other misuse of intelligence; federal regulations and ethical requirements governing conflicts of interest; the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act; communications privacy laws; the National Security Act; and the Fourth Amendment.
I am hopeful that Conyers will restore our Democracy. I’m not cocky about it. I just think there is a better chance that he will follow through than there ever was that Lee Hamiliton would get to the bottom of Iran-Contra.
You write:
“I am hopeful that Conyers will restore our Democracy.”
Yup.
If there is ANYONE with the chops to do it, John Conyers is that man.
A real hero.
All he needs is a chance.
The 2006 elections.,..the turning point. One way or another.
We shall see.
Lots of time for the New Reality Machine to crank out MORE horrors.
We shall see.
Conyers is the man.
We shall see if he gets his chance.

Searching for a printable version of this report. The TPM Cafe version has a header on each page of the 26 pages and print preview can’t grab the entire report.
Conyer’s website supposedly has a PDF version but I couldn’t find the Constitution in Crisis button to access it.
Any help?
My comment: As long as we vote for representatives in Congress who refuse to represent the people who elected them (and the people who didn’t) in favor of corporate interests and lining their own pockets for profit, we will not be able to stop an executive who refuses to obey the laws.
