May the 4’s be with you
for a drink? Some bad jokes? Some good company?
Here’s MY mood:
I know I’ve been slacking today for cafe duties, hope that didn’t contribute to your bitchiness. Here’s a peace offering:
I can see this wait for election returns is going to be a caloric nightmare…
nightmare is another’s form of divinity π
That’ll work just fine. Followed by something salty, of course, like potato chips.
you’re gonna pass on the salty nuts? I’m shocked. π
(heading home from work, see yawl later)
Oh, BTW Manee, I just figured you were busy and I’d pop one up.
I’m lost!
I’m working on a tall glass of ice water here, MM.
How are things going with you?
Good, SN. Except that tomorrow I have to get on an airplane for the first time in going on 5 years. Really don’t like to fly, but must fly for work. Safest way to travel, ay?
How are things over by you?
Heh. I hear you on flying. I was always a white-knuckle flyer, totally nauseated with fear the entire way. But funny thing, on this antidepressant my fear of flying vanished. Weirdest thing. I almost enjoyed it like normal people do.
I’ve heard the odds of a plane crash are roughly those of a fatal elevator accident – and how many times do you hear of those?
I have a doctor’s appointment for xanax tomorrow, though in the past it barely took the edge off. Any recommendations?
you stick around long enough to visit with me.
Done! How is life on planet AndiF?
So-so — I’m out of town for work which always makes me cranky. But I’m happy that we finally manage to intersect on the space-time continuum.
Are you making any headway with your various projects.
I’m not really sure what my various projects are anymore. Could be a good sign, I don’t know. Trying to stay positive. And flexible. One thing that’s iffy about this new job is the being-out-of-town for work aspect. Do they make it worth your while?
I used to have to travel about 30% of the time but now it’s more like 10% or less but business travel is pretty much the pits and I don’t know how it could be made worthwhile — however, my company is not picky about expenses (though most of them are paid for by the customer anyway) so traveling is always as comfortable and convenient as possible.
Wow comfortable and convenient! I got nickled and dimed to death because I had to rent a car to go to a conference and rented the most no frills model available and even took on one day’s cost myself though I only rented the car to go to the conference. Plus they couldn’t get that since I didn’t stay at the same hotel where the conference was I had to pay for parking at both places. Nightmare. I’m glad your percentages have dropped so much and you get support from your employers. I know you deserve it all!
if they are going to make traveling miserable, you should definitely feel free to put up a fight about going — when you travel you are giving your employer 24 hours a day while disrupting your personal life and they should show some appreciation and understanding of that.
Just what I was thinking. Plus don’t forget the $5K per year one half hour break. With all the conferences and retreats and out of town grant meetings, imagine how silly I feel giving up that 5K/yr to save one half hour a day. So yesterday I had a little meeting with my new boss and agreed to the extra one half hour per day with a request to have the 5K reinstated. He said he would have an answer by Friday. So let’s see how that goes. In any case, since I’m part time and with all the restrictions on travel, I might just tell him that I would rather not in the future.
Give them an inch and they’ll take whatever isn’t bolted down, etc.
Sounds very reasonable to me.
I’m glad you stuck around to chat tonight. I wish I could manage to stay up and talk some more but I’ve run out of steam finally and am heading off to bed.
Good night.
Nighty night, AndiF. Glad we could get together for a moment! Don’t let the bed bugs bite!
You’re up late tonight! Hiya Andi, MM … π
so I’m adjusting my internal clock so I don’t wake up at 4:30 a.m. — besides I always sleep lousy the first night so the later I stay up the better chance I’ll get some sleep.
Hi.
You’re being mysterious. Central time zone?
just somewhere hardly worth mentioning — Buffalo Grove (northern Chicago suburb).
Well, at least you’re getting a lake breeze? When not in a beige cube that is.
Nope, nowhere near the lake. This is the land of ugly ‘burbs.
(beige conference room)
I think I might say good night to you first for a change.
See you all around …
Hey now. I’m here for the first time in ages. Don’t you two go to bed already.
Yeah, listen to your mp3 player during takeoff, even though you’re not allowed. It sure helped me!
My shrink was very excited about my fear of flying being cured. He said there is some anecdotal evidence that antidpressants are effective for specific phobias, but no hard evidence.
Specific phobia? I just thought it was anxiety, but he said since I don’t have any other major fears, flying was a specific phobia.
Anyway, it’s helped in so many other cool ways that the flying thing was a happy side effect.
Big help! LOL. Guess I’ll go with the xanax and hope for the best. Maybe I can check into your scientific research on phobias, too. I certainly have enough of them!
don’t take crochet needles onboard… they’ll bust your ass for that.
ack
I hate flying, too ((((MM)))) I haven’t flown since my ear started to revolt. The way I handled it was … well I never really did.
Good luck my friend! Safe journies. XOXOXOX
Thanks for the ear reminder. I get crashing migraines from sudden altitude change. Ear planes are at the top of my shopping list as of this moment.
I see BV in there.. that’s good shit! π
Due to the Lamont thread… I feel like a dirty old pervewoman…
But at least I’m in good company with all the other dirty old pervettes! π
Histor in the making and what do I add??
Hey, you’re cute!
ACK!
Well, at least you said something nice.
It’ll be cool to see if this finally makes it sink in how pissed people are about the war.
well I did add a congrats to being a part of history in the making π
I’ve got a bit of a pink on tonight. I found myself fluttering in sheer anger and verging on hate… “rape of the little girl in Iraq” went and took a shower… that’s where I bawl outload so that the kids can’t hear me… and decided to do what I do best… sometimes… be silly and make people smile.
Several others agreed with me π
Sometimes you just have to laugh instead of scream.
Yup…
off to a hockey game for a bit.
XOXOXO to all. Go LAMONT!
PsiFighter’s diary on the race infected me with a new glee and hope. π
what an evening… We got a decent rain/thunderstorm during the whole thing, was waiting for my power to go out. Anyone still around?
I’m here….just got here. First time I’ve visited in ages. What’s happening?
Great to see you here in the pond!!! Things are good, especially with the election news out of Connecticut. How are things in the Sound? I need to visit your blog more often, you always post amazing picks.
Thanks! It’s good to be here. Glad you like my little photo blog. I don’t update it as often as I’d like but maybe that will change soon.
posted a comment on your virga pic, fantastic stuff.
Looks like the next round of storms are moving in, be back in a few.
I didn’t even know what they were called. AndiF told me. It was pretty cool.
Nice photo blog. In the “Plum Center” I noticed someone copied it when they built the KingDome.
Hi Manny! I just got here after doing a little happy dance about the news.
How are you?
I’m good but tired from clicking on all the different sites for results. How are things in your neck of the Left Coast?
Excellent! The day is ending much better than it started. π
Would someone give me IVG’s blog URL? I though I had it but I don’t. Thanks!
lots of lightning, but it seems to be passing. Here’s IVG linkage: http://urban-oasis.blogspot.com/
Thanks Manny. Glad the t-storm was not too bad. I miss the wonderous thunderstorms of the midwest. We don’t have them out here in Puget Sound.
the thick of the monsoon season and it has been kind to the Tucson area lately. We’ve been getting all kinds of storms lately, finally getting a dent made in the drought. Need more tho.
I suppose, Brain, but lederhosen chafe me so.
I’m pondering that now it really is happy hour.
For a while.
Then time to go back to work.
