Are you in pain? Dragging a cast along? Carrying a very large dog? worn out by the start of school?
Morning Andi.
It’s a fine evening here – if you like 100kph winds.
I spent the last few bits of sunlight bringing in the laundry and battening down the alpacas.
If I can stay up past 10pm (2 hours from now), I’ll order those speakers tonight. Otherwise I’ll get up at 6:30am and do it.
There’s a moratorium until I order them. 😮
I’ve been working on some photos, and thought I’d share.
Lovely picture keres. I’m always amazed at really good wildlife pictures. I always wonder how did they get them to sit still that long.
This little parrot was asleep. So the “keeping still” was no problem.
Being a geezer I’d be going to bed early and getting up early — since that’s what I do anyway.
Maybe Luna will take a walkabout around 4:30 a.m. and make it easy.
“Maybe Luna will take a walkabout around 4:30 a.m. and make it easy.”
Don’t even joke about that. I spent most of an hour yesterday gathering up the bits of dead wallaby that she dragged home to eat the other morning when she got loose.
What a gorgeous bird! I’m amazed that you got such a good picture. Had a hummingbird today, and didn’t even think of taking it’s picture with my old clunker!
But I did drag this out of my camera:
This is from a month ago, in my yard.
Beautiful picture kidspeak. Your old clunker does a excellent job.
Well, it does pretty good within a fairly short range. Good for tracking my daylilies and such, not much else.
I’m afraid I’m in the ranks of point and shoot. My camera will do more, but it’s just beyond my comprehension a lot of times. Or I’m just to lazy to learn. 🙂
Very pretty.
I’ve got some hummingbird photos, from when I lived in northern California, but they are on my laptop. If I remember, I’ll pop them off and post some here.
Good evening keres and good morning Andi.
Hi FM. I’ve had a relatively quiet day – mostly cleaning and working on the house.
Oh, and making dog food for Luna. It’s really common in Australia for butchers to sell “dog mince,” which is mostly ground up scraps of varying quality. I but a few kilo of dog mince and bake it in the oven, and then mix it with a good quality kibble. Luna likes it.
That sounds a heck of a lot more healthier than just normal dog food.
Hi FM. Hope you have a nice day unplanned.
I don’t think it will be unplanned today. The relatives got back in yesterday.
I tried to get into the city yesterday, but couldn’t. I see a trip today and lots of grocery shopping. 🙁
These eucalyptus flowers are as big as your fist.
Now that’s macro! And the colors – is that the same eucalyptus that we know as a tree? Don’t think I”ve ever seen blossoms like that.
There are hundreds of species of eucalyptus trees. Macrocarpa is relatively small in size, but has huge flowers and leaves.
All eucalyptus trees flower, and Eucalyptus Regnans, the “Swamp Gum,” is the worlds tallest flowering tree topping out at 100 metres/330 feet tall.
Now that does make me feel really dumb – my dad used to quiz us on tree identification. But then, we were talking about trees in the middle of the U.S. My exposure to eucalyptus trees is tiny – not tiny trees, but likely not more than one or two different varieties.
Don’t feel dumb. I didn’t have any idea how many types of eucalyptus trees there were either, until I moved here.
These are called “four O’clocks,” as that’s pretty much when they close up.
Here’s a field of them.
That’s lovely keres. I like seeing the marco and then the whole picture. Give me a perspective.
Thanks.
Perspective is always a challenge with photography. We like the detail of close-up and isolated subjects, but that frequently loses the context and/or sense of scale, which can also be interesting.
I’m usually amazed by all the talent that is in the cafe. Even the every now and then photographers take excellent pictures.
I think someone was talking about a photo fair. I hope that comes off.
I remember eucalyptus trees when I lived in California, but I don’t remember those. Beautiful picture.
Those are amazing keres!
Morning, FM, Andi, Keres. Nice to talk to you all, my once in a blue moon greeting.
Off to sleep more very soon.
Good night/morning kidspeak.
Good morning and happy napping.
Morning Folks!!!!! Been slightly under the weather and busy as hel;l as usual. LOL I have tomorrow off so I can get ready for my meeting tomorrow night and run errands. Hope everyone has been doing well.
Good morning Refinish. Hope you’re feeling better today.
Hi, refinish. Thought of you these past few days, mostly because we’ve been re-doing our kitchen and I’ve been stripping woodwork (I won’t make the really bad pun). My hands are sore from the thousand coats of paint since 1911, and using a “safe stripper” that will render the lead paint inert as it removes it.
Been up all night doing this to avoid getting the Gang of 4 to “help”. Nothing like fur in the gunk, or shampooing cats to make a real mess.
Hi refinish. Good to “see” your busy self.
Off for my last nap before real work begins again. Hope you all have a good day, or good night (Keres & Luna), as fits where you are.
It’s hard not to think that someone made this bird up. At least, that’s what you’d probably think if you only had a description.
This one was in the “Rainbow Jungle,” a captive breeding establishment in West Australia.
I feel so monochromic around here. We’ve got blue birds, red birds, black birds, etc.
to Hopeful.
Wow, what lovely pictures this morning. Keres, yours are amazing! Are you far away from the birds and using a zoom or what? They look very candid.
Forgot the Hopeful Jr. pic.
Morning SN. I think that’s one of the cuter pictures I’ve seen.
She’s a very good hider of her personal belongings. I’ve been finding chew toys all over the house, even in rooms I didn’t know she’d ventured into.
How are you this morning, FM? Has the family requested breakfast in bed yet?
When George was a puppy he would hide under the couch and I never could figure out how he could get under there.
Nope no breakfast yet or today for that matter. I’ve got to go into the city today to stock up.
Today has started out fairly well so far. George hasn’t yapped once, everyone is still asleep and I’m just enjoying the quiet for awhile.
I hope it’s not the calm before the storm. Have a good one, FM.
You too SN.
too cute!
Morning. How’s the “day after” going?
It’s going relatively well – though because he normally didn’t awaken until after noon I’ve been pretending he’s upstairs in bed.
Have you already been traipsing through the back 40?
Did he share a bedroom with Ben or have you acquired an extra big bed for those days when you don’t feel like sharing?
Yep, just got back.
We’ve been acquiring empty beds at an alarming rate around here! I’m actually afraid to go up to the third floor to see the state he left his room in. I’ve already taken over one bedroom and turned it into a reading/escaping from the snoring spouse room.
You could always just open the door and throw a match in.
How would Mr. Nature feel about you installing a disabled lesbian on the third floor? Probably not too amped. Tell him I cook! 😉
Hey I want in on this. How about a past middle aged old man that occasionally does lawn work. I don’t cook, well not at least good, but I eat. 🙂
Oh and I take numerous naps.
Heh, we could totally be roommates, Family Man. We like a lot of the same classic rock, too.
That would be cool. While we’re blasting out the rock, I wonder if we could get SN to adopt us. You know, yell down stairs, Mom we need some food up here. 😉
Yes, then it would be like she had #2 and #3 right back home again! We could even bicker over which show we’re going to watch on the TV and eat all the potato chips right before dinner.
I like that. It would be preparation for my second childhood that around the corner.
I already have a middle aged man who does no yardwork and doesn’t cook. What other qualifications do you have?
Well other than taking naps, not many.
You could think of me as another new puppy that already house trained.
No chance for stud services, huh? 😛
OK think of me as an old old puppy. 😛
I just hang around and look loveable while slobbering all over myself.
One of those is enough. I guess your cooking skills are enough to justify your living rent-free in my home.
Now, how about some grits?
Oh I can make grits anytime, plus pimento cheese sandwiches. Our pimento cheese is a lot different from what you make though.
Ice cream, I can make ice cream. 🙂
I think it would be the answer to many of his fantasies. But the room comes complete with queen size bed, loveseat from This End Up, wooden beaded curtain in the doorway, posters of Bob Marley, Citizen Cope, Keller Williams and Ozomatli. Sound like your decorating style?
The decor sounds lovely! (Seriously, I know I’d adore your son.) But your man is totally not allowed to watch. 🙂
That’s cool, he probably couldn’t make it up the stairs anyway. 🙂
Hopeful says hi to Hopeful, Jr.
And kidspeak, the dogs and I send our sympathy for the cast and the pain and the start of school.

Hopeful sure stands out against that dark forest-y background. 🙂
Good morning Andi, keres, kidspeak, FM, and SN! (Hope I didn’t miss anyone…) Great pictures.
Just another gorgeous day here, sans CabinBoys. Think I’ll take a walk after I put up the news bucket.
Morning CG. You can’t fool me. I know you’re ready to go and pick up the CabinBoys right now. 🙂
MMmm…maybe by Friday night. Right now I’m enjoying the lack of sibling bickering and parental responsibilities. 🙂
Nice pond pix, btw.
How nice it must be for you to do nothing, and then rest afterwards. 🙂
Doing nothing is harder than it looks. 🙂
Well it is only Tuesday. By tomorrow you’ll be talking yourself out of jumping into the car to go and pick them up.
Then again, by tomorrow you might call to see if they can be extended for another week. 🙂
I’m already fantasizing about next summer…maybe a whole month of camp?
Newest picture of the pond. It’s gone down about two feet this summer. I think that’s a good thing, because it’s two feet farther away the snakes are.
Right click and view for larger image.
But we know that evil lurks beneath those calm waters … 🙂
Hi Olivia. As I so well know what lurks beneath those waters. I’m still on the watch for the first alligator to show up. If you thought I was bad with snakes, you ain’t seen nothing if an alligator appears. 🙂
I now have this mental image of you sitting on your porch in your underwear, in a rocking chair, holding a shotgun across your lap, watching for gators. (No, I don’t know why the underwear, maybe because it’s hot.)
LOL a better picture would be of me peering out the window before I took George out. Wouldn’t want him to turn into an alligator appetizer. 🙂
I think they’re tighty whities – don’t know why, I just picture him that way. Boxers don’t go with shotguns and rocking chairs.
Haha, me too!
Hah and double Hah!
Gotta have special underwear for the rocking chair – splinters. One day I might buy a seating pad for it. 😛
Just popping in between book stuff – way more work this month than I’d planned. I am at least getting some time to work on the brand new trilogy, which is fun.
Some lovely pictures upstream and some darned cute ones as well.
Tea today: Imperial Forest, ’cause that’s what the topside pic made me think of. Sweet and light, with a hint of grain.
Good morning Kelly. It’s good to see you.
Don’t work to hard today.
I’m currently slacking, or I wouldn’t be on these here internets. Hope you have a good day with family.
First wave of family is up. Gotta go.
Have a good day in the pond.
Trying to get myself moving — spouse and I splurged off our eating regimen and got one of those all-meat pizzas, and I’m really regretting it this morning; going to drink a gallon or seven of water today to counteract all the sodium content. 🙁 Never done that before — and likely never will again. urp
Other than that, taking it relatively easy…will get to work in a bit…
Everybody off working or napping or relaxing or something completely different that we’d all like to hear the intimate details of?
That’s for sure. 🙂 How ’bout you?
I’m getting ready for two con calls this afternoon and I know no one wants to hear ’bout that.
I’m doing stats … about the same as you.
Are you at least eating something good?
Ah well, 1st con call is at 1:00 so I guess I had better get organized (as in, make a pit stop).
See ya later.
I won’t say have fun … so ah speedy afternoon to you! 😉
Heh. I just emailed off the second of 2 projects I wanted to finish this morniing…time to take a break before starting the next 3.
Not quite as exciting as stats or conference calls, I’m afraid… 🙂
Morning all (or afternoon). The froggy bottom soda fountain is now open!
