The past Sunday, a small group of Michigan Tribbers got together for a little picnic that included pies and tin foil hats.
Kidspeak, moi, keepinon, GKMscot (not pictured), Mrs. keepinon (not pictured – how did that happen!!! it was her birthday), my husband, and of course, the world’s cutest baby, Andrew were all in attendance
Sadly, our other BooTribbers, BostonJoe (still here?), wolverine writer, ejmw and Street Kid, were unable to join us, but I think that we all decided that this would not be the last time for a Michigan meet-up.
The funniest thing about the whole day is that all of the adults were educators, some current and some retired. It was wonderful to sit down with other like minded teachers to exchange stories and to bemoan our pitiful choices for governor (Granholm has been disappointing, but DeVos is Cheney with a pyramid scheme).
If you can make a meet-up, do so. This site is a nice e-community. The meet-ups help to make this community tangible. The people you meet can help spur us on to greater activism.
Sadly, these are almost all of the pictures we have. All of our digital cameras died at the same moment.
Batteries Toni. Got to remember batteries.
Sounds like a wonderful time. Thanks for writing about it.
I’m hoping Mrs Dem and I can go north to join you some day. We’ll bring batteries;-)
Hi Toni,
I love seeing diaries about meet-ups and have been to a couple here at the east-coast this summer. I agree, face-to-face gives a different substance.
You have me a bit confused up there; in the caption, you identify Street Kid at the lefy, but further down you say she did not make it?
Too bad all your cameras died. In the absence of Andrew’s image I’ll offer a recent one of my niece back in Norway:

Your niece is super high on the cute meter ask.
Fixed the mistake. That’s Kidspeak.
She is adorable. Though I have to admit that a picture of Andrew did turn out. I just didn’t want to hi-jack the diary.
Can’t you put it up now?
You are simply documenting those present, no?
Here he is, with my husband.
They look like a couple of keepers to me;-)
Tried but it is too long of a bike ride. (Car’s still not fixed.)
We’ll do this again, I’m sure of it.
Let me know when and take it from there…Thought I’d have my car fixed tomorrow, now its looking questionable….
Although I am happiest when remaining unpictured and totally anonymous, that is not Streetkid! I will be outed by my spouse if I do not out myself – The person on the left of the photo is me, Kidspeak.
Sorry about the mistake. I’ll fix that.
It was a great afternoon. Highly recommend the tinfoil hats, too. Guaranteed to keep those people away who have those yellow ribbons on the backs of their cars and trucks!
I did notice that no one else came around our picnic spot.
Very sorry to have missed the festivities. It was a beautiful day, though, in lower MI, and it looks like you had a great time. I promise to make it next time around.
Interesting, too–while I am not “practicing” per se, I was an education major myself. I’ve always loved teachers–married one, and my daughter was an education major as well.
Thanks for making the effort to put out the invite and get it together.
We’ll be glad to have you next time!
It was a great day for a picnic. Did you all know that Kidspeak makes the most wonderful apple pie? (besides my mother’s/wife’s that is) Yes there was pie: no, there wasn’t any pie fight!
Teacher Toni does have the world’s cutest kid. Andrew was the hit of the afternoon. Sorry others couldn’t make it, maybe next time.
Big thanks to you and your lovely wife for saving our spot and choosing a spot near a playscape. We couldn’t have done it without you!
Thanks for letting us in on a little of the fun. I LOVE the hats. Would have loved even more to see you all wearing them!! Next time.
Is it just me? or are the boo tribbers just the most fabulous looking group of folks ever?
So glad you had the chance to meet up and I know what a great time you had. Yeah, be sure not to stop with just one get together, it just makes it all so much more enjoyable to interact in face to face time.
Wish I could drop in on each of them across the country, guess I’ll just have to be that weird energy feeling that makes the hair on your arms and the back of your neck stand up. . .Ha!
Maybe, in time, some of you ubber organizer and well put together types will think of plotting for a National Boo trib meet up that has nothing in particular to do with the Orange place. I just think it would be great fun! And I don’t think it has to be the grand political forum presentation that Orange was.
Just a thought.
Hugs to all
Shirl
Thanks for posting this TT. Each and every one of these gatherings and the diaries about them just warms my heart – important work, keeping the heart warm and soft and open!
The hats were fabulous – laugh-out-loud style. 😉 And the value of joyful laughter? Priceless.
Thanks again to you all.
Toni
Thanks for posting this. It must be good to get together with people you’ve met and liked in cyberspace. I’m so glad that Andrew is doing well. How old is he now?
He’s 2 and change. Our family day is a week and a half away. Sadly, I’ll be back in school on the actual anniversary date.
