What’s on your mind? What’s happening next week? Does anyone want YouTube disco tracks? I mean, what is with Chris pushing this highbrow John Coltrane elitist bullshit?

I liked the George Clinton track, in spite of my age and taste in music. (Early Rock harmony/do-wop)
Dig up some Dion or Sha-na-na reworks or your own Philly neighbor Lou Christy, and you can Donna Summer and Patty LaBelle yourself into ecstasy, and I’ll like it too.
take it back!
Philly is as Philly does.
Hey! Hey! Hey! John Coltrane spent quite a bit of his life calling himself a Philadelphian. Booman, I believe, is from North Jersey. I think what you meant to say is, New Jersey is as New Jersey does.
Yeah, Coltane is pop culture. Everyone from Jersey knows it. And Kevin Smith is Orson Wells.
Booman is from Jersey? I might’ve just lost all respect for him. 😛
hmm? I thought that was what gave me the little credibility that I have…
I’m from NY…we don’t give Jersey any sort of respect whatsoever! You should know this! 🙂
jersey is the greatest state in the union.
Excuse me while I go laugh my ass off for the next hour or so. 😛
On another note, what’s the time and place of the Drinking Liberally meetups in Philly? I’ll be coming back down to Penn in a couple weeks.
on tuesdays at 6:00 at 18th and Lombard. Tangier.
Cool. Who are some of the other bloggers who show up aside from yourself, Bowers, Atrios, and DD? Just trying to get a sense of how outta the loop I’ll be.
Since Booman apparently passed out dreaming of all the finery that is New Jersey, I’ll chime in and say that it’s a whole rainbow of unwashed, smelly bloggers that shows up on a regular basis. There are plenty of well groomed, citrus scented non-bloggers as well. You won’t be out of the loop by any means. New people are treated very nicely. It’s only after people have gone a few times that they are mocked and ridiculed to the point that they are a mere shell of their former selves.
South Jersey.
Miles Davis w/ Santana and Robben Ford…..take that!
enjoy
video!
that is so bizarre. I was just wondering if I could find Elvis doing the Bee Gees on You Tube.
no youtube, so you’ll have to be satisfied with this.
That’s not playing for me for some weird reason…anybody else having a problem?
I can’t get it to play either. Too bad. Nothing like Dread Zeppelin doing ‘More than a woman’.
That would be too much on video…
Their Black Dog is comical.

OK I can see there are some serious rockers here.
Try This.
Oy.
Yep the legend lives on. 🙂
that’s not right.
It definitely shows something is wrong in the universe.
Speaking of the store BooMan, any chance of finding our froggy on the front of a baseball/golf hat?? I promise I would buy at least a couple. 😉
i’d like a hat, but I don’t have the money to invest in them right now. I can’t even pay myself anymore.
How about some (all too) timeless Queen and Bowie….

Sadly, I have no doubt that everyone here has witnessed far too much of these lyrics in real life:
It’s the terror of knowing
What the world is about
Watching some good friends
Screaming ‘Let me out’
I think you guys need something a little heavier.
I saw these guys live earlier this year. One of the best live bands I’ve ever seen. And one of my favorite overall bands of all time.
Opeth – The Leper Affinity (live)
Watch at least until the 4:30 mark to get a sense of what they’re about, otherwise you’re cheating yourself…their lead singer/guitarist is one of the most talented musicians around, and he actually has a great singing voice (not just the growling)!
Oh wow..Opeth? You so totally rock. I mean that. that’s just awesome. 😉
Another fan? If you haven’t seen them live, do. Really. Amazing.
I remember last year I introduced ubikkibu to them and he loved them too. He introduced me to Avenged Sevenfold (one of my favorites here, skip the first 10 or 15 seconds they’re silent).
That was in the Metal Mosh Pit. Maybe it’s time for another one?
Love the Metal Mosh Pit … 🙂
I loved the mosh pit.
A good friend introduced me to Opeth some odd years ago. Never had a chance to see them live however. 🙁
Had no idea there was even a moshpit so I would say yes it’s time for another one!
Hopefully they’ll have another new album in a year or two and will tour again. I saw them in Grand Rapids, MI. The opening bands were, unfortunately, nothing impressive, but Opeth blew the roof off the place.
It sounds like there might be enough popular support for a new Mosh Pit…I don’t know if I’ll have time to host one before I head out of town this coming Thursday, so look for it sometime in September 🙂
Do Something
Does anyone know if there’s a simpleway to save youtube video to ones own hard disc?
Just wanted to point out a guest blog at Howard-Empowered People that you might be interested in…

Disco sucks — always did. It was designed for the brainless “booty-shakers.”
Nothing elitist about Coltrane but it takes some brains to appreciate.
I’ve been wondering about saving Utube stuff as well but then, you can always go and watch it again. I’ve been diggin’ old Janice Joplin vids there too.
the prohibition economics of the drug war creates and fosters a $ 322 billion a year world wide black market that allows stateless terrorist armies to thrive. Including Hezbollah, al Qaeda and others.
The drug black market funding of terrorism issue, I believe, could and should be the common interest national security issue that should unite all Americans against the drug war.
My LeftIndependent blog offering on this topic:
STATELESS TERRORIST ARMIES; ACCEPTED COLLATERAL DAMAGE OF THE DRUG WAR
Support for the drug war amount to givng aid and comfort to terrorist armies.
