Nothing much. Did some food shopping and just chilled. Really didn’t do anything productive…now trying to think of a good topic to write about for today’s diary.
Yeah…I sort of have to see what it’s like first. I may completely swear off of the blogosphere, depending on what it’s like. All I know is that it will be very intense.
She’s been driving me crazy with her barking. And she has this annoying game of shoving her chew toy under the couch and then barking until someone retrieves it for her. I’d just ignore her barking but then she starts scratching at the couch trying to get it.
I seem to remember the kids doing the same thing by dropping their spoon or dish from the high chair and then laughing when Mommy would crawl on her hands and knees to get it.
More proof of just diabolically clever the young really are. They look all cute and helpless and adorable so they can trap you in their snares and have their way with you.
Nah, been writing one a day, as usual. Probably won’t be writing one tomorrow, as I need to do a quick and dirty review of my Japanese so that I’m semi-prepared for class.
I think I remember us talking about shopping one time and you said you usually know what you want, go and get it and then back home. That’s the way I am.
If there was a way for me to send someone I would. I actually do a lot of shopping by internet and have it delivered.
But I decided I needed some new walking sandals before my trip and there wasn’t time to order them and have them delivered before I left. So I had to set foot in an actual store.
You’re going to be in Italy where they make excellent shoes and sandals. Could have gotten yourself a real pair of Italian sandals and saved some packing space.
True, but I didn’t want to risk not finding something I liked and/or that was really comfortable. And who says I can’t have two pairs of walking sandals 🙂
One more day before classes start? Isn’t it odd to start classes on a Wednesday? Or, if it’s going to be a Wednesday, I’d think it would have been last Wednesday.
But my entire educational career from kindergarten through graduate school — we started before Labor Day. Usually around August 22. I don’t think I ever started after Labor Day.
Wow. I always started after Labor Day. I’m just shocked that my daughter starts before Labor Day. For the past 9 years we went to a huge art and camping event in the Nevada desert which took place the Monday before Labor Day through Labor Day. Last year I could only go for two nights, and this year, I couldn’t go at all. I would rather have school end late June than give up my last 3-day weekend.
That’s too bad you had to miss it. I can see how you’d make that choice. But given how bad the august weather is here, and how good the June weather is — I’d rather be in school in August and out of school in June.
Yeah, wasn’t the best idea; I’ll end up paying overpriced bookstore rates. But I appreciated the time I spent instead chillin’ here, going out to the ‘burbs, and catching up with folks.
I usually set aside $700-$800 for books per semester (that’s at a bookstore rate for new texts). Even if I buy them used, it’s usually no less than $400.
Yeah, made it there. Got stuff to make hamburgers, hot dogs, bagels, cereal, pasta – basically the works. I need to pick up hamburger and hot dog buns, but I carried 8 heavy bags 2 blocks…I was in no mood to shop for much more at that point. 🙂
I just wanted to tell you that I love your writing and read most everything you post, even if I don’t comment. You are a good writer and a great blogger.
Perhaps I’ll repost a comment I put up at dKos last night:
Who said I was being ‘falsely modest’? (4+ / 0-)
I was born in Japan, and although it’s been more than 15 years since I lived there, I think the part of the culture that stuck with me is the idea of being humble. In all honesty, there are people here who probably write more passionately and are much more knowledgeable than myself. I don’t delude myself into believing I am bigger or greater than something I am…because I’m not. I’m well aware of it. Been shot down too many times to think otherwise.
Oh the youth of today. 8 bags two blocks. When I was a kid we had to walk 10 miles to the store leading the mule, and to save wear and tear on the mule we had to tote it back.
I think he needs to get one of those granny carts. You know, the metal baskets on wheels that you pull behind you from the grocery store. (I assume they have those in the south too. I usually see old ladies using them.)
LOL…Being on crutches, I can totally relate. If my glasses weren’t falling off, my purse was falling off my shoulder! :>)
I just went shopping with my kid and she had to take all of the groceries up the stairs. She was appalled, but quickly shut up when I reminded her that I did this all the time.
Oh I wish I had a good story! That would have made it worth it. :>)
I was in oodles of pain. I had to go to the hospital at 2:00 a.m., calling a good friend to take me at that ungodly hour. I joked with the nurses and doctors that if the pain of childbirth was a 10, this was an 8. But now, while I can’t put any weight on it, it is not to painful. What really sucks now are stairs and the fact that I am hopelessly dependent on those around me.
Yeah, once you hurt your knee you appreciate the existence of handicapped ramps. Fortunately, when I hurt mine I didn’t need surgery. Will your surgery be arthroscopic?
Yeah. I either just remove the torn ligament or I have it rebuilt. The former is 6 weeks recovery and the latter 6 months. But, with the latter, I should be good to go for life, whereas the former, I will be limited.
Dammit! Just got my work schedule from the bank for the next 2 1/2 weeks…Tuesdays and Thursdays are going to be no fun. I have to be dressed up in business formal the entire time for classes (9-3 straight, with only a 1/2 hour break from 10:30-11) because I go straight to work right after my last class is done.
It’s just aggravating because I know I’ll be sweating a lot. I’m okay with wearing formal clothing for short periods of time, but when it’s actively walking from class to class…definitely not a fan.
Very funny. 😛 And it won’t be very odd…there are plenty of folks dressed up at any given time at Penn, mainly Wharton folks. We’re a bunch of tools, so we dress up just for the hell of it. 😛
Maybe he can wear his cargo shorts and a polo shirt under his business suit – then whip it off, pop the collar like a frat boy and he’s set to go. Don’t forget the flip flops.
I think he would need to work on his technique for that. And I’m not sure you and I are equipped for that. Where’s ej when we need him to teach frat boy technique? 🙂
But it would be so much fun if you could do it as well as them — and then tell them you won’t be doing it again, because that’s only for douchebags like them.
We’ll visit you in the hospital after they beat you up. Won’t we SN? Well, we’ll send cards.
She’s doing great! She came home for the weekend and her bruises are almost gone on her face, but you can definitely see the broken nose. She has an appt. with a plastic surgeon this week. As for classes, she’s all caught up.
You know, it makes me kind of sad because she says as long as he’s in there he might as well make her nose not so thick across the bridge. As her mother I think she has an adorable nose – but what do I know?
Since we’re suing the guy I’m wondering how I can have liposuction and disguise it as one of her medical expenses.
Remind her about that actress (Jennifer Grey?) who had the nose job and then nobody recognized her and she couldn’t get any jobs. She should keep her own adorable nose.
Yeah she is. I’m really more worried about how she’ll respond to anesthesia this time. When she had her wisdom teeth out they used something called deep sedation and she had the hardest time waking up, and had seizures. It was really scary. We both react weirdly to drugs and medications.
I’m going to open up a 24/7 and head to bed.
Nice talking with you MM. Have a fun and safe trip. 🙂
It’s officially happy hour everywhere east of the Mississippi.
If this is FM, it’s always happy hour for him. 😛
He’ll take 27 of anything with alcohol – but only virtually. In actuality he’s a sweet tea drinker all the way.
A tea drinker? I guess he needs to take it easy in his old age. 😛
Yeah the tea helps me stay up at night. 😛
Must load up with extra caffeine. 😉
Unfortunately I gave that up too. I’m more of a water drinker now.
But I do have my memories, or lack there of. 🙂
What’s going on SN and Psi?
Nothing much. Did some food shopping and just chilled. Really didn’t do anything productive…now trying to think of a good topic to write about for today’s diary.
My gosh, I’m proud of you. 🙂
Chill = Slacking 🙂
Heh…it’s nice for a change, I have to say.
However, since classes begin Wednesday, it’ll be short-lived. Sort of ready to face the daily grind once again, this time at school.
I think getting back into a routine is a good thing. I know when I’m thrown off my routine, it just doesn’t feel right.
Yeah…I sort of have to see what it’s like first. I may completely swear off of the blogosphere, depending on what it’s like. All I know is that it will be very intense.
Ah come on. You know you’ll miss us.
Maybe a little blogging once a week.
OK so Psi is probably off write a new post and SN is probably poopy hunting around the house.
Who’s around!
I was not poopy hunting. I was slacking on the couch.
So after a hard day of poopy hunting your slacking.
Maybe you haven’t found them all. 🙂
She’s been driving me crazy with her barking. And she has this annoying game of shoving her chew toy under the couch and then barking until someone retrieves it for her. I’d just ignore her barking but then she starts scratching at the couch trying to get it.
I see she’s read the basic human training manual.
Not to mention learning fun lessons about cause and effect.
Cause: Need to be entertained
Effect: Mommy
The puppy is just training her human. Don’t worry SN, you’ll catch on soon.
Just got back…took a little while to write one. It’s hard trying to be eloquent instead of being analytical.
Yes some of us are blessed with both. 🙂
Does being a slacker endow you with both? 😛
Nope, being a slacker just makes you wish you had either one. 🙂
Is it my imagination that you’ve been doing more diaries since you said you didn’t have time to do them?
Oh and good diary.
Nah, been writing one a day, as usual. Probably won’t be writing one tomorrow, as I need to do a quick and dirty review of my Japanese so that I’m semi-prepared for class.
So … what’s a girl gotta do to get a drink around here?
Hey Mary what will you have?
Hey Family Man … I can’t believe you’re still awake after your late night last night 🙂
I’ll have whatever you’re mixing.
I think tonight it will be Italian wine. Something smooth. 🙂
Yeah I’m still plugging along and not even a nap today.
Did you get all your shopping done?
mmmm, I hope it’s a nice Pinot Grigio.
I did get some shopping done. Remind me to stay away from malls on the next national holiday. It was a zoo out there. 🙂
I’m trying to picture you at the malls while it’s a zoo.
I could see the Wrath of Mary coming out. 🙂
LOL
No, I just try to stay out of everybody’s way, get to where I need to go, buy what I need and leave.
But I’m usually in a really bad mood by the time I’m finished.
Oh the trauma …
You’re going to be in Italy where they make excellent shoes and sandals. Could have gotten yourself a real pair of Italian sandals and saved some packing space.
Yes the trauma. 🙂
True, but I didn’t want to risk not finding something I liked and/or that was really comfortable. And who says I can’t have two pairs of walking sandals 🙂
Good point.
Hey Mary! How’re you doing today?
Hi Psi,
One more day before classes start? Isn’t it odd to start classes on a Wednesday? Or, if it’s going to be a Wednesday, I’d think it would have been last Wednesday.
No way! Classes should never start before Labor Day! :>)
True, should 🙂
But my entire educational career from kindergarten through graduate school — we started before Labor Day. Usually around August 22. I don’t think I ever started after Labor Day.
Wow. I always started after Labor Day. I’m just shocked that my daughter starts before Labor Day. Classes start on Wednesday. Tomorrow’s the last day of freedom, most of which will be spent acquiring textbooks and reviewing my Japanese.
I’m shocked, shocked, that you have waited so long to buy your textbooks. You slacker! 🙂
Yeah, wasn’t the best idea; I’ll end up paying overpriced bookstore rates. But I appreciated the time I spent instead chillin’ here, going out to the ‘burbs, and catching up with folks.
What do book bills run these days? I’m sure it’s astronomical.
I usually set aside $700-$800 for books per semester (that’s at a bookstore rate for new texts). Even if I buy them used, it’s usually no less than $400.
That’s a chunk of change.
Did you go to the grocery store today?
Yeah, made it there. Got stuff to make hamburgers, hot dogs, bagels, cereal, pasta – basically the works. I need to pick up hamburger and hot dog buns, but I carried 8 heavy bags 2 blocks…I was in no mood to shop for much more at that point. 🙂
I just wanted to tell you that I love your writing and read most everything you post, even if I don’t comment. You are a good writer and a great blogger.
Thank you much for your kind words. 🙂
PsiFighter37 gets rock star treatment.
don’t let it go to your head, boy …
Perhaps I’ll repost a comment I put up at dKos last night:
If I was 20 years younger, I would want to have your baby! :>)
See that, Mary! Not all of the people who are older than me here dislike me. 😛
and .. I never said they did
I like you, but I don’t want to have your baby.
Oh the youth of today. 8 bags two blocks. When I was a kid we had to walk 10 miles to the store leading the mule, and to save wear and tear on the mule we had to tote it back.
LOL!
I think he needs to get one of those granny carts. You know, the metal baskets on wheels that you pull behind you from the grocery store. (I assume they have those in the south too. I usually see old ladies using them.)
Hey, I was able to do it! It’s just a pain, and my glasses kept sliding off my face, so I had to stop a lot.
Heh. How old is your daughter?
I had the problem long ago with the glasses. I started buying the wire wrap around your ear ones. Never have had to push up my glasses again.
Those might look too old though. 🙂
She’s only 12, but going on 16. :>)
Ah. Those were the days…just before cynicism fills the world.
Hi everyone. Long time, no chat. I’ve been laid up with a bad knee injury. I’m looking at surgery. Eeek.
I’m sorry to hear that. My brother had surgery on both his knees. High school football.
I hope at least you have a good story about how you injured it. Are you in lots of pain?
Oh I wish I had a good story! That would have made it worth it. :>)
I was in oodles of pain. I had to go to the hospital at 2:00 a.m., calling a good friend to take me at that ungodly hour. I joked with the nurses and doctors that if the pain of childbirth was a 10, this was an 8. But now, while I can’t put any weight on it, it is not to painful. I have to be dressed up in business formal the entire time for classes (9-3 straight, with only a 1/2 hour break from 10:30-11) because I go straight to work right after my last class is done.
Sigh…man, that blows.
um … if you’re looking for sympathy from me, I thought we cleared that point up last night.
Yeah, I know you have none. 😉
It’s just aggravating because I know I’ll be sweating a lot. I’m okay with wearing formal clothing for short periods of time, but when it’s actively walking from class to class…definitely not a fan.
Don’t worry, no one will notice you sweating. They’ll be too busy thinking you look like a dork wearing business clothes to college.
Make sure you carry a big briefcase 🙂
Very funny. 😛 And it won’t be very odd…there are plenty of folks dressed up at any given time at Penn, mainly Wharton folks. We’re a bunch of tools, so we dress up just for the hell of it. 😛
Just because there are plenty of people dressed that way doesn’t change what the other students are thinking.
When you get to class, be sure to loosen your tie with a huge sigh, and lean back in your chair like it’s been a hard day at the office.
Popped collars are for douchebags. It’s really sad how many guys do it here at Penn.
But it would be so much fun if you could do it as well as them — and then tell them you won’t be doing it again, because that’s only for douchebags like them.
We’ll visit you in the hospital after they beat you up. Won’t we SN? Well, we’ll send cards.
You’re so kind, Mary. Your kindness is unparalleled amongst other BooTribbers. 😛
true
I saw a polo shirt with a giant popped collar that said “my collar is bigger than yours” – it was cool.
Heh. While mildly amusing, he’s probably a huge tool.
It was on a website with other ‘no sweatshop’ clothes.
My daughter tells me that all of her friends see popped collars as a definite sign of a douchebag.
How IS your daughter this week?
She’s doing great! She came home for the weekend and her bruises are almost gone on her face, but you can definitely see the broken nose. She has an appt. with a plastic surgeon this week. As for classes, she’s all caught up.
I can’t believe she’s all caught up. I’d be unable to concentrate, after all that. She’s amazing.
So the plastic surgeon is for her nose? Does she get to pick out a new nose? Maybe a celebrity nose?
You know, it makes me kind of sad because she says as long as he’s in there he might as well make her nose not so thick across the bridge. As her mother I think she has an adorable nose – but what do I know?
Since we’re suing the guy I’m wondering how I can have liposuction and disguise it as one of her medical expenses.
Remind her about that actress (Jennifer Grey?) who had the nose job and then nobody recognized her and she couldn’t get any jobs. She should keep her own adorable nose.
I think so too. I used to kiss that nose many many times a day. Hopefully she won’t look like Michael Jackson when he’s done.
awwww…
She’ll look fine. She’s too sensible to take the michael jackson route.
Tell me what day the surgery is and I’ll send good thoughts her way. (and your way).
Thanks, I’ll see you when I get back in a couple of weeks.
Good night froggies. It’s geezer bedtime.
Everyone have a good night in the pond.
g’night. I hope you’re down for the count this time.
HA! I’m up later than YOU tonight! 😛
Take care, FM.
