Oh, would ya look at Wyoming. Up over 4%
Home of the Dick. Wonder why that is?
Could be related to natural resources?? Coal??
If it is coal then the loosening of the restrictions on coal plants by the Bush Adminstration wouldn’t have anything to do with the fact that Wyoming is the leading state of only three where wages are rising, would it?
Ain’t it the damndest thing?
Oops,I missed Rhode Island. Can’t be coal ;o)
It’s mostly due to natural gas leasing of public property and oil exploration. BTW, Wyoming has huge (relatively speaking) deposits of uranium-bearing rock.
Numerous stories in magazines like National Geographic have highlighted the changes in Wyoming due to gas leasing and drilling, boomtowns, and the destruction of ranching and sensitive terrain.
Disposable Workers
Economics correspondent Paul Solman reports on work-force layoffs and their consequences.
This report comes from ‘The News Hour’ on PBS and was reported tonight 9-4-06. The link brings up your ‘RealPlayer’ for the Audio of the report. If you visit the ‘PBS News Hour’ site in a few hours they will have transcript and possible video.
Amazing! Texas is sinking like a rock. Hmmm – wanna bet the Bu$hCo crime family blames it all on those illegal immigrants??? Couldn’t possibly their so called “economic policies” could it??
What a great GOP value to champion, disposable workers. I wonder how many GOP candidates will use that phrase in their campaigning??Throw away the social “safety net” while they are at it, and before you know it most Americans have become disposable.
The economy is “booming”, but we can’t afford our own people? BTW, what did the DOW do today?
four states posted positive gains in household income…the cumulative population in those 4, according to the 2005 est. by the US Census Bureau is 3.708 million people vs and est total population of 296 million people…you do the math…but gDub’s doin’ a helluva job…
Don’t spend it all in one place.
Now, where the hell are the pandas, Chris?
I still haven’t figured out a way to start writing again, let alone post the heavy panda action that you kids crave. Until I get my sorry act together, get your communist bear fix on.
Free trade Democrats share some of the blame for the collapse of the textile industry in North Carolina.
Blogging as Laney at Apophenia
Hmm, DC is up. But pol’s income would be counted within that of their own home states. Curious.
very profitable under BushCo™
We watched P.O.V. (Point Of View) tonight on PBS – Waging a Living about households trying to hold themselves together in the face of rising prices and declining wages. If it comes to a station near you, tune in. It’s depressing but it shows what is happening in the Repug’s version of America – not pretty.
I can tell you for a fact that the ‘burbs are being hit hard as well. Even the more affluent ones. People grabbed those ARMS, gas prices are hurting everyone, every company is going to be laying off, as Ford and GM are starting to tank. It’s already hit here and is gonna get a hell of a lot worse fast. Graholm hasn’t done jack to bring decent paying jobs to MI for people who don’t have the education to get a tech job, not that she has brought enough. (And even if you do, its an employers market–a BA and a certification mean nothing today.) Hell, people have been leaving and more are everyday. It’s getting really bad.
I’m not sure if you remember the early 80s when there were signs all over south-east Michigan asking the last person out of the state to turn out the lights. Things came back for a while, but the state in in the toilet again. I’m not sure you can completely blame Graholm because Engler left a mess behind and she’s been fought every step of the way by the Repugs in the state legislature who apparently want things to be worse so their candidate can win the governorship.
In this economy, not even a degree and experience can help when the work an individual used to do is shipped to China at 1/12th the prevailing American wage. Add in age discrimination that seems to start at around 40 and the older workers who are let go are in a world of hurting.
Was in college during early 80’s. Remember it too well. Graholm knew the shape MI was in before she ran for gov and knew what needed to be done to get this state back in order. She failed, it is as simple as that.

A friends mother (in her mid-50’s) got a layoff notice–permanent. I am not even going to post what she had to say–my jaw hit the floor–my opinion is very mild compared to several others.
Am I really supposed to believe her “It’s not my fault, but vote for me anyway” bull? I would have some respect for her (not much) if she did NOT run again and gave someone who had the willingness to do what was needed and knows how to lead to run as a dem.
That’s what happens when you deregulate in some areas and upregulate in others (and by upregulate, I mean earmarks, wars, occupations, etc.
Seeing this map-especially for Labor Day weekend-is too damn depressing for words…not a surprise really but laid out like this in black/white so to speak is just really sickening. There is no way to combat this downward spiral except by having or electing a President who is as bush likes to say ‘forward’ thinking and makes jobs in this country a priority.
