May the 4’s be with you
Mornin’, Andi. Two days now without an Andi pic. And you say that you’re not holding back for the fotofair!
No time today for a walk or photos, getting ready to travel to Philly with hubby. He’s got a 2 day seminar and a room at the Hyatt in the heart of Philly, so I’m going and we’re going to be tourists in his spare time. Liberty bell, Franklin Institute, cheesesteak for the carnivore, you know, the usual. Maybe I’ll get pics of some good city flora and fauna.
Mmmmmmmmm cheesesteak!
Don’t forget those amazing soft pretzels.
Good morning to you, although it’s only two hours ’til Tuesday-bed-time here.
This plant came with the house, other than knowing that it is a succulent, I have no idea what it is. The small bee in the photo is an Australian native, the larger one in the upper right is the European Honeybee
Nice picture to wake up to.
I was glad to see the native bees.
We had a recent illegal intentional release of Bumblebees into Tasmania (probably orchardists) and the evidence of their deleterious effects is already mounting. Because the Bumbles can’t get into many of the very narrow native flowers to eat the nectar, they chew a hole through the side of the blossom, thus getting the nectar without pollenating the plant.
I keep meaning to build native bee houses – which I’ll get to right after I finish my native bird houses and sparrow trap.
Now I have this really unfortunate image in my head of Luna and a bee house.
Okay. Not sure what your image involves, but a native bee house is usually a bunch of holes drilled into a block of wood, or even a bunch of drinking straws bundled together (native bees don’t build combs, but need small spaces to sleep in).
How Luna would relate to the above eludes me. Unless she decide to eat it, which is, you know, a dog response to just about anything.
I saw Luna thinking ‘what a very nifty new toy for me’.
Time for me to go be a nifty old toy for my dogs and let them drag me off for a walk.
Pleasant dreams.
I saw Luna thinking ‘what a very nifty new toy for me’.
Which is why it will be hung well above Luna height.
Have fun with the fur persons. I’ll try for pleasant dreams, but they’ve been especially weird of late.
Beautiful shot, Keres. I love the deep color of the bees.
I know I’ve posted this before, but it’s one of Australia’s most spectacular floral oddities, and one of my favorite flowers.
keres, these are wonderful flowers … the colours are amazing.
Well I’m glad that you’ve posted it again. Strange and beautiful.
Amidst all these heavenly pics of flowers, here I come with my mushroom motherlode. These are the little tasties that I search for. This was a tiny portion of the loads of “perpinki” growing here. “Perpinki” is the Polish name for these “little brown mushrooms… STILL don’t know their real name. I filled 2 buckets in no time at this spot. 🙂
I’m jealous. I don’t think there’s much around here that’s edible besides morels and we don’t have any on our place.
I don’t know about that, Andi. Looking at your pics from your walks, it sure seems to me that some of that forest could be prime mushroom country. You need a guide to show you where (and when) to look. I only pick one kind of mushroom… there are scores of edibles, but unless someone shows me, I won’t go near them. My Grandpa taught me how to pick pinkies (as my niece called them when she was little). I bet you walk right by them… especially this time of year.
I should have rephrased that as “recognizably edible”. I’m sure you’re right — there are tons of mushrooms in the forest but I don’t anybody who could tell me which is which.
It’s was only 45 this morning. Yay!
Gorgeous photo, Andi. Helps me to calm down before I walk over to class in a few minutes.
Hope the day stays calm.
At least it is finally cool! 56 this morning when the herd dragged me out. spouse may put out food, but they don’t believe they’ve eaten unless I’m present, for some unfathomable reason. I’ve had the creeping ick this weekend, and hope I get through class without falling over.
The creeping ick is the worst! I recommend lots of visits to the Cafe. 🙂
I dated a Jewish guy (shortly before he who became the spouse popped back into my life) who had this awesome Yiddish word for the creeping ick…wish I could remember it; it sounded like one was trying to clear his/her throat!
Going to try and get some more crap done today — I’m actually making a gentle headway into the catastrophe…
Breakfast time…back in a bit…
OOh, I was wrong – THAT one is the best. Cool light.
I like it but I’m not sure about it’s “bestness” — I suspect you are being seduced by the thought of fall.
Really nice! I love autumn. OOooo I just noticed an odd aroma. I was out to the horses and forgot to wash my hands. Someone was rolling in something pungent. Gotta go wash. Yuk.
Your bee photos are wonderful, Keres. I once kept a hive and enjoyed them so much; glad you are making them a home.
The biggest tree in our block park in front of our house was blown down, and the huge nest of honeybees had to find space elsewhere. I don’t know where they went. we have about the only yard that has bees in it, as all of our neighbors have their yard sprayed. (We get “kindly” suggestions that our yard would look much better if we just had the lawn service get rid of our weeds and pesky bugs, too.)
I’m trying to live with the 8legged things that I fear so greatly in order to keep the bees and the butterflies that seem to cover our yard over all the others.
Why would they want you to get rid of the bees?
Yeah they sting.. but don’t they know about “the birds and the bees”?
ACK!
Want mroe bees and butterflies.. look into butterfly bushes. They grow fast, are hearty and even I can’t kill em. 🙂
I have one we rescued last year. It really is a great plant!
It’s coolish and cloudy and due to rain any minute. Hope everyone has a good day.
asiatic lily
I look at that and I keep thinking ‘kiss kiss’
Makes me think of lips sucking on a straw … 🙂
SN ups the ante on “petal po*n”…:{)
Hi d!
back in cubihell?…Have fun but keep yer head down!…:{)
I’ll keep mine down … you keep yours up!
Hope you’re having a good day there … 🙂
Keep your stick down and your head up. 🙂
be handy”…I think Red Green said that…:{)
Hello there HandsomeDada!
So what are we going to do with all that money is going to make?? 🙂
handsome, handy, or both? 😉
might require the intervention of the Supremes, as it could be argued lots of ways…:{)
The Sens are playing their first pre-season game tonight against Sid the Kid and the Penguins in Halifax.
Hope you all have a good day, afternoon, etc. I’m off to class.
I keep thinking of your photos… and tile coasters.
I see them stacked in fours “packaged” by tying them with twine or ribbon… none of them are even close to the beauty and humor of your art.
Damn, woman, you could make a killing.
I aint buying any coasters because I’m holding out for the best of the best. YOURS 🙂
I thought I was the only one who took siestas leaning up against a thorn-filled saguaro. 🙂
The only thing missing is a bottle of tequila.
with a dead/toxic worm floating around the bottom of the bottle. That’s key.
EW no worm! NO worm!
Makes me sick that people here call Jose Cuervo the good stuff.. ACK!!!
Did ya know there are many medicinal qualities to the Agave plant?
Oops didn’t mean to give you a three. Yikes.
I’ll get right on that Peace Cheesecake for ya my friend 🙂
Ha 🙂 Manito!, oops sorry!
perhaps the needles will wake me up from the brain drain I find myself in today. I’m fighting a cold 🙁
I feel like a real worm though.
And today I heard on KBOO that we have 75 miles of wall and was approved 1.8 BILLION more.
Sorry you’re feeling ickypoo. Why hasn’t Bud giving you some injections of ooey gooey love eyes? 🙂
I haven’t seen tile coasters around here so I had to google last night. 🙂 I found a place nearby that sells kits to make them from photos and drawings, so I’ll have go and take a look … And hey, you could even tell me which photos you’d like on them … say, a ladybug humpin set for instance … 😉 lol
I think seasonal ones would be great. People like variation in sets. But you could do whole series. Pansy sets, or roses, flowers with dew on em… flowers with “visitors”… The SEXY flowers set… could be collector’s items 🙂
I’d start off with my purchasing of the ladybug humpers 😉 But I’d have to collect em and buy em as gifts for others. The more I become less of a consumer the more my dollar goes to artists and indy stores. Handmade or heartouched.
How much would it run you to make them? Can they be mass done? Do you live near farmer’s markets?
LOL … you’ve got lots of great ideas! 🙂
I have no idea about costs or how to even make them since I just learned they existed last night … 🙂
I’ll have to do some sleuthing to see what we have around here for production … the kit I mentioned wouldn’t be the best for doing mass quantities I’m sure. Okay, you’ve got my interest peaked lol … I’ll see what I can find here.
Yes, we do have our famous market in Ottawa — the Byward Market — plus a few smaller ones in the neighbouring towns.
I’ll be willing to be your test market guinea pig. I’d gladly pay for the ladybug humpers and possibly that one of Noods in the garden. A set of 4 and shipping as a christmas gift to myself. I have some cheap ass paper thingies from a mailer from Torani syrups I’ve been using. They suck.
I gots some money now 🙂 er… or will have.
Shipping would suck… as tiles are heavy so I think the coolest best would be to sell em at those markets.
I better make sure I can make these ones myself — otherwise it’ll be a fun conversation w/ the tile person when I show them the ladybug photos I want to use … 😉
I let you know what I dig up … 🙂
can get recycled tiles, too… hey, you could wind up with a partner. YOu take the photos and they make the tiles.
okay, I’m ahead of myself and yourself. 🙂
I couldn’t locate the photo of Noods in the garden.
And I can’t remember which one it is … was it face or a body?
It was of his face. He had a bit of a critical look about him 🙂 He looked like he was thinking, “all these fucking flowers… and no catnip!”
I had a black and white fattypie named Simon and Noods reminds me of him.
This is his ‘will you get that stupid camera outta my face’ exasperated w/ me look. 🙂
That’s the one. I guess I thought it was in a garden… but Noods has the same smirk as Simon 🙂
dew drop
dew drop again
my two favorites of the dews
you could do color schemes, too. Later on. After you’re steeenking rich and famous 🙂
🙂
I noted the artist made tile coasters at new seasons and when I go to people’s houses. They don’t just use them to protect their table or papers… but to also hold the tea bag for when drinking tea. Place to set the spoon when stirring hot chocolate.
Good Morning to all from the great state of Tennessee. I finally have a full day to which I can do whatever I desire. It has been forever since I have had such a day. I cholse to check you all out and am so glad I did. Your pictures are awsome! I love them all. Andif, hope this sunrise was warming to yoru soul today.
It has turned off cool today. Right now it is 68 degrees and boy do I cherrish this temp.
The cats got to their breakfast and are not sleep ing once again. Oh to be a cat in my house. It has too be the greatest life of all….;o) They do nothing but keep me intertained…
I am so waiting for your great pictures at the fair. I complement y ou all for them ahead of time, for I know they will be the best….each of them….
Have a great day and love to you all….
Thank you Brenda — it was, as are they all. 🙂
still seeking some info about assisted living. Me and Ryan think it would be great.. however most are private pay. Of course.. my mom hates the idea and says she enjoys her “freedom”.. . Freedom to sleep in, not exercise and listen to some guy named Art Bell on the radio. Seein if we can make her our dependent for private coverage for resid. or assisted. living. They have on right down the raod from me. It’s less than a mile and it’s award winning and lovely!!
And to top it all off – today I have to spend trying to find out why my son’s door to school transportation hasn’t started up yet. Yesterday I was a bit late to get him made worse by them lettign him out ten mins earlier. But the lady I just called was really nice and this school is trying so hard.
Tomorrow I start work. And I want Olivia to become a rich artist. 🙂
what a good job does
‘A basic human right’ that also makes good business sense
It’s part of the solution. Never thought I’d feel so proud of a place I’d call work. 🙂
Don’t ye know that today is that greatest of all holidays, Talk Like A Pirate Day??
I flunked out of pirate school, you know. I couldn’t handle the three ‘ARRRRRRs’!
Pirate Day!
OMIR is looking for someone to shiver his timber! 🙂
What did Captain Hook die of?
Jock itch!
Good afternoon all! I had horrible insomnia last night and so called in sick and have been holed up in my cave (bedroom) since I woke up around 10am. Adolf (mein cat) was also a bit under the weather and slept about 10 hours but got up, had a wash and a bite to eat and has gone out the (cat)door. I think I’ll take a ride on one of our linear bike trails to clear my head. Woke up feeling somewhat despondent because of the writing I did last night but it seems to have mostly passed.
Hope y’all have a fine day.
Sorry you were up all night and the writing made your mind sad.
I’ve found that sharing it helps ease my mind so that I can tackles things I need to.
It rained last night. Was nice hearing the rain hit the roof and the pavement outside. We have got to hook up at some point ‘Soup 🙂
Happy Hour has set sail. Drink at yer own risk.
