I’ve mentioned before that the only other land mass that reaches this far south of the equator is the tip of South America. So, the winds that hit Tasmania often haven’t seen land since half-way-’round-the-world. Which is the long way of saying that it’s very windy here.
One of these days I’m going to get a mic and podcast sounds to go with this diary. It’s hard to get the full effect of windblown dog without the wooshing sounds to accompany the image.
Albert usually lies beside the stove, but today he was so cold he lay under it.
albert has an irresistible tush.
Doesn’t he just! We can hardly resist picking him up for a cuddle from such poses.
The recycling barrel blew over, and half way ’round the house. Here’s Luna waiting out another particularly strong gust.
Luna thinks empty drink containers make fine toys, and you can see one of her prizes on the grass behind her.
It makes you feel the wind.
The Eastern Spinebill.
I’ve never had a bee let me get right on top of them before. Guess that flower had the really good stuff.
Great shot! I especially like the complementary color scheme.
The color scheme was entirely the bee’s doing. π
When it comes to critter photos, the color scheme usually is out of our hands, but it’s great when serendipity smiles upon us.
This came out a bit blurry because it was taken through the sliding glass door with all the dog foot prints on it.
Seems to me she’s saying “such a tiny bowl, such a big dog”!
The dish gets filled as often as she likes. She’s on her third dinner course at the moment. She inside and spreading the kibble all over the floor before she’ll eat it.
Btw, I can’t leave food in her bowl because sparrows (a pest species here), the ducks, and even the supposedly vegetarian Paddymelons, will eat it.
Hopeful Jr. eats in a particularly funny way with her short legs splayed and her lower belly on the ground. You’d think because she spends 99% of the day with her nose pasted to the ground following a scent that she wouldn’t mind standing and eating for 2 minutes.
That’s a great shot. I’ll have to see if I can get a photo of Inti (our young male alpaca) all kushed down with his legged folded under him and trying to eat out of his very tall bucket at the same time.
There was a little extra protein in their grain mix this morning.
I relocated him/her to a less urban area.
Albert’s been put to bed with his heater on. Luna’s ensconced on the couch. And it’s time for me to follow suit and head to bed. I’ll be back in the morning to check replies and additions.
Enjoy your day.
and if it’s possible, it’s even windier this morning. Luna (who wanted out about 3:30am) greated us with one of her rope toys, which she wanted someone to throw for her. Imogen’s comment was, “if I throw it, it will either hit me in the face or we’ll never see it again.”
Morning keres.
The wind parting the hair on her back gives you a good view of her big black spot. You usually can’t see it because the guard hairs are white.
It’s currently raining diagonally (about a 55 degree angle). And Luna showed every intention of sleeping through it. Then, about a minute after I took the above photo, she got up, stretched and yawned, repeatedly, and finally came to the house to be let in. She’s now asleep on the couch.
The streaks give you a good sense of the angle of the rain. This window faces north, so the wind is coming from the west.
Are you getting good, soaking rains you need?
We’re only getting a few mils at a time. It’s keeping things from dying out completely, but the ground was so dry it’s only soaking into the very surface layer.
A good rain will actually run down the slope and fill our holding pond, but none of the recent rains have added anything to it’s current pitiful state. It only has water in it because I transfered some from a rain tank last week. I try to keep some water in the pond for the ducks, frogs, and hoppies.
That’s too bad. I’ll keep working on re-directing the rain your way even though my eureka seems inadequate to the task.
Nonetheless, your efforts are sincerely appreciated.
I really do need to get that mic. Luna is snoring so contentedly at the moment.
