Oh, I’m just kidding really. I have the love-hate thing for the South. I wouldn’t change growing up here or living here for anything, but it is really hard to explain that to some folks, especially being from Mississippi. Sometimes its hard to explain to myself. Mississippi is last in everything, and even Charlie Rangel rags on us.
As a native to (Biloxi) I’ve heard just about every dig people can come up with. But maybe we ought to let the rest of the nation in on a little known secret. We’ve got a whole lot of Northern transplants that have moved in over the years. Wonder why? But that’s ok, before the gamblein’ boats and Katrina…we partyed hardy for a long time.
It is very true that many many northerners who have been transplanted to Mississippi have decided to stay, contrary to popular notions. There are many good things about our state that stay buried under the popular notions until someone actually does the work of finding out about them.
And yes, partying hardy on the coast is one of them!
I would say the same thing about North Carolina. The Research Triangle draws people here, but it is NC that keep them here – 48th ranking in everythign aside.
More sweet tea and biscuits. It’ll cure what ails ya.
Actually, I grew up in PA. But, my mom’s family have been in NC since the revolutionary war and I moved down here as soon as I could. Never felt more at home.
I am a transplant from Il. I have lived in the south since ’86. I currently live in the northwest corner of TN. My yankee family and friends think they can’t understand me when I talk…They detect an accent from the north down here. Talking about the food down this way. Yes sweet tea is the going thing…but I drink mine without sugar. I like fried chicken but the pig..well, I do like BBQ , porkchops, ham, pork roast, but that is all on the pig that I will eat…;o) others eat everything of the pig…yak,,:O(
We had a meet up last spring in May, we went to Memphis for Memphis in May and was lots of fun meeting others from this blog and enjoying the food and hot weather…wink, wink. Maybe next time we can all get together and more ppl might come.
Anyhow, glad to have all the new members here. A big and hardy welcome…hugs
I don’t know if any of y’all are from Carolina, but there is talk of a bloggers meetup or two after the holidays. One in Raleigh and I don’t know about the other – Asheville I think.
I actually have nothing to do with either, other than being an attendee and beer drinker if they happen. I will come back and post a diary when I find out about it. Or, you can check in with BlueNC, where I’m sure we’ll front-page it when something more firm comes about.
There are now new east, south, and world threads.
election night in NC. What will I be thinking about?
I love #3 especially…;o)

I think that is the move you will see NC Progressives joining.
Do we have any other southerners here?
Yup, quite a few, though some don’t like to admit it!

If it wasn’t for Mississippi, NC and SC would be…Mississippi.
Precisely.

I’m a yankee transplanted to Alabama. Actually grew up in Colorado. I frequently have a hard time adjusting and frequently complain about it a lot.
My recommendation:

Oh yeah, I’m learning a lot about Big Biscuits down here.
We are talking about biscuits aren’t we? This isn’t some code you kids use to talk about booty or something???
; )
I had a feeling we were no longer talking about biscuits.

Kidspeak is a a Southern gal and I spent many years in Texas. We’re always up for a Southern meet up, if we can get away.

I might try to come to the one in Ashville. That would be about 7 hours for me to drive.
plus would you consider making it in the spring or there-abouts? I do not like snow in the mountains….
…not for driving anyhow, otherwise it is beautiful
