I don’t know if anyone remembers it, but Dick Cheney once shot someone in the face and then lied about it. I know that is not as bad as sending sexually explicit emails and instant messages to teenage boys. I just thought I would bring it up anyway.
Another thing you might have forgotten about is the time that the Bush administration fixed the facts around the policy of invading Iraq. That led to the unnecessary deaths of tens of thousands of people. I know that is no reason to have wall-to-wall coverage on cable news. It certainly isn’t a mistake on the magnitude of letting an adult perform extramarital fellatio on you. I just thought I would remind you, in case you forgot.
Just so it doesn’t go down the memory hole, I guess I should mention the time that the CIA officer in charge of tracking Iraqi and Iranian weapons of mass destruction programs was outed by Karl Rove, Scooter Libby, and Richard Armitage. That ended her career and was done purely and simply for revenge against her husband. I know it isn’t as interesting as a women that is screwing a Congressman going missing and later turning up dead. I just thought I should bring it up.
Did Denny Hastert takes bribes from Turks to block pro-Armenian legislation? No one seems to care. Did he have any idea what Tom DeLay was doing? No one cares. Did he have a clue about the corruption of Bob Ney and Duke Cunningham? Not one cares. How many times did he answer Jack Abramoff’s phone calls or take his free tickets and dinners? No one cares. Did he illegally use his position as Speaker to enrich himself? No one cares. When did he first learn that one of his members was a pervert that flirted with Congressional pages? Oh sweet Jesus.
You get the point.
Watching some cable news tonight, I get the strong impression that Dennis Hastert’s attempt to put an end to this scandal has been a spectacular failure. He is probably not going to retain his speakership. And it’s all because he looked the other way about a member that he knew was infatuated with underage boys and didn’t investigate him. That’s a perfectly valid reason to shit-can him. But what about all the other reasons to shit-can him that have been set down to business-as-usual? Maybe David Broder can explain it to me. In the meantime, how many of these crooks are going to lose their jobs next month?
None of the links work after Doolittle.
that’s cuz I was fixing them.
Okie dokie.
And I totally share your frustration.
What’s wrong with us as a country that so many monstrosities can slip by unnoticed? I think predatory pedophiles are scum, but… why can’t the American public obsess about the heedless murder of going-on 3000 American soldiers plus countless thousands of Iraqis plus destroying a country and creating a breeding ground for terrorists based on lies and distortions?
Why can’t we obsess about that and obsess about convicting the war criminals who have hijacked our country?
Why?
I like to think that I pay attention but must admit that I do not understand why Rep. Murtha was included in the Dishonorable Mentions
Please explain.
Read this. And, of course, you can go to the link above.
Murtha put his very life on the line for his country (again!) when he came out against Bush on Iraq, and he has been pushing that that strongly and consistently. He really believes that Bush and Cheney are breaking the U.S. Army and destroying national security.
I’m willing to cut him slack on this–completely.
I can’t believe that Murtha is one of the three most corrupt Democrats in Congress. Bullshit!
Steny Hoyer is from my state, but I never trusted him. I’d take Murtha in a heartbeat for majority leader.
And by the way…the more I see of Pelosi, the more I like her.
Duke Cunningham put his life on the line for his country too. He was the model for TOP GUN.
He’s in jail.
Bad argument. Nonresponsive. Straw man. Illogical. Silly.
Bad argument.- it was your argument that you are willing to give a pass to corruption that was bad. I don’t care what reasons you attached to them. The frog has handcuffs for a reason.
Nonresponsive.- my response was to the logic of letting someone have a pass for corruption because of…
Straw man.- I set up no straw man. I made a comparison, using your argument that putting your life on the line ought to give you a pass to be corrupt.
Illogical.- yes, it is illogical, isn’t it? That’s my point.
Silly.- Now you’re catching on.
I`m glad the frog has handcuffs. He`d be a hypocrite if he didn`t.
I saw Murtha defend his actions a few days ago & he sounded convincing
in his defense. If he`s found to not have done anything wrong, I`d be very happy, but to not include him in a list of [some] unconvicted wrongdoers or even apparent wrongdoers would be wrong.
The outlook for the three senators is good: it’s likely “farmer” Jon Tester will take down Burns. Eliminating graft is a strong plank in Tester’s plans.
Frist is retiring, to his $7million dollar DC home, which is a worry, but Ford may win his seat.
Santorum is also down in the polls. BTW, at the close of the Liberty Medal webcast on 6abc.com last night, Santorum appeared in an ad. The volume on my laptop was turned down, so I didn’t hear the words.
Speaking of the webcast from the National Constitution Center, Presidents Bush I and Clinton received the medals and gave speeches. Perhaps the Center or 6abc have the event available on their websites. Knowing the interest, someone may have it at YouTube, too.
A word about Beyond DeLay. Thanks for this reminder, BooMan. Oddly, Richard Viguerie, on C-Span this morning, has a warped memory of Tom DeLay, in my opinion. Viguerie seems to have no grasp of the institutional corruption established by DeLay. Bet Viguerie doesn’t watch Bill Moyers, too bad.
I didn’t know that about Maxine Waters. She was very progressive in the State Assembly years ago and I thought she was still fighting the good fight in Congress but I guess reality is a lot more complicated than we wish. Sigh.
