I’m spitting angry that the Philadelphia Inquirer has chosen to endorse Michael Fitzpatrick over Patrick Murphy in the District 8 congressional election. Some of you may be unaware of just how Democratic Philadelphia is. Here are some numbers from the 2004 election that will give you a little bit of an idea.
Kerry 542,205 81%
Bush 130,099 19%Congressional District 01
Brady 214,462 86%
Williams 33,266 14%Congressional District 02
Fattah 253,226 88%
Bolno 34,411 12%
District 8 covers a small portion of the northeast portion of the city. And, in any case, the Philly Inquirer is supposed to be at least somewhat reflective of the views of the people of the city. How on earth they could endorse the rookie Republican in this race over a potential superstar like Patrick Murphy is beyond me. Oh, except that the paper was recently purchased by a right-wing troll. Screw him and his consortium. The people of Philadelphia endorse Murphy.
WTF is that supposed to mean? Murphy believes in justice, but vote for Fitzpatrick because he’s a sleazy liar? On a whole, that has to be one of the lamest endorsements I’ve ever seen. Why did they even bother printing t?
Oh yeah, right-wing troll.
I’ve always wondered how many people actually pay attention to newspaper endorsements anymore. I think they used to. But now I’m not so sure.
But this really isn’t right.
Well, if you know the paper’s slant it can help you in formulating your vote, I suppose. Around here I pay a lot more attetion to the endorsements in the Post-Intelligencer and the two alternative weeklies than I do the Times, especially since the Times’ endorsement of Dave Reichert in WA-8 seems to be predicated solely on his support for the owner’s pet issue (repeal of the estate tax).
Much of that is the Times’ conservative slant. The paper is family owned — the owner, Frank Blethen, sold 49% of the paper’s stock to Knight-Ridder, thereby raising capital from the chain but managing to keep complete effective control for himself. And of course Blethen is very, very conservative.
Here in Chicago even the wackjob Tribune endorsed Tammy Duckworth among other Dems. I’ll never forgive them for endorsing Bush for a second term, or their tortured, pathetic spinjob explaining it, but even their editorial board occasionally wanders out of the zone of darkness. The Inquirer used to be one of the good papers, if I recall correctly. What a shame that they now make the Trib look fair and balanced.
That endorsement is just about the silliest thing I think I’ve ever seen. It reads like a college football prediction written by a sports writer who doesn’t know a thing about either of the teams and is just giving it the “Oh, what the fuck I like red helmets” treatment.
Moving right along:
1)You really need to learn the name of the town you live in dude.
2)Bob Brady is my congressman and I never pass up the opportunity to express my view that he is a horrible stupid fucking hack who is constitutionally incapable of doing anything other than fuck over Philadelphia (Ahem) and ordinary Philadelphians. That I will have to move or die to rid myself of him fills me with the urge to defecate.
Douchebags. ‘Nough said.
