Go check it out… I snipped the title and the very beginning of it for the tease.
Is DailyKos a rightwing website?
Whenever I write about possible policy options that would be (partial) solutions to our looming crisis, there is always a noisy proportion of kossacks that complains that my proposal would unfairly hurt them, and that I don’t understand about the USA, how big it is, or how necessary a car is for their job, or their shopping, or how wind would spoil their view, etc, ad nauseam.
Whenever I write about unions, government regulations, workers’s rights, I get similarly hammered for not understanding economics (or blasted away with arguments about French unemployment, or various looming European crises like population, pensions, …). I am permanently amazed by the lack of attention on the websites for issues like poverty, inequality, workers’ rights, and by the hostile comments on my diaries on such topics (if they even manage to get noticed) which sound just like anything you’d hear from rightwing commenters in Europe.
Is dKos rightwing?
So let me attack head on several group of professional whiners who sound suspiciously like rightwingers:
Wholy Gobsmack! Over 1000 comments last I checked. It is a must read Diary. I am almost afraid to open the diary with comments on dial up. lol
I won’t bother reading it. I know Jerome’s in France, so he can’t really do much about the current election. And you know what – it may be a fine discussion to have.
But I don’t want to have it until November 7. There should be a single-minded focus on winning the upcoming election, and winning it big. Now we have 3 of the 8 rec’d diaries there talking about this new meta issue.
I don’t see any harm in having the discussion now.
Especially on a Saturday night when real campaign work is at a weekly low.
Jerome may not be able to ‘do much about the current election’ but at the same time he is a pretty smart dude, and it is important to keep an eye on the long term and not just the short term.
This is GREEN, not ORANGE and we should be paying attention to what affects GREEN.
In other words — if you’re worried about a meta diary at ORANGE that’s going to affect us here at GREEN you are missing the big picture and you need to pay less attention to Jerome’ Recommended Diary and start paying attention to Hunter’s Recommended Diary which has the potential to lead to exoduses from ORANGE (voluntary and involuntary).
Hunter thinks those people will go start their own blogs to complain about how bad dKos treated them. But of course they won’t (at least not at first or not as their primary form of venting). Because starting up their own blog to do that is no fun because (a) nobody reads it and (b) it doesn’t have SCOOP so you can’t have REALLY good arguments where you can directly belittle and abuse people who disagree with you. So guess where they will all end up?
Meh, I don’t really care about green vs. orange.
I think Jerome brought up some important points in his diary, in a much larger context than just ‘what happens at dKos’.
That isn’t to say that I am opposed to a bunch of people coming here and furthering BooMan’s livelihood so that he can FINALLY write that book about the pre-9/11 activities of the hijackers.
But, if you really think that there are going to be a bunch of people coming over here from dKos then I guess I’ll try to be more agreeable and stop troll rating and shouting people down all over the place. HA!
OK, then I’ll just shut up.
In the interests of being more agreeable I’ll ask why?
Because you said you don’t really care. In the interests of being agreeable, I’ll just shut up.
Well I guess perhaps I could have phrased that better. Let me try again.
Green vs. Orange is tangential to the main point of that discussion. I think that Jerome brings up a lot of good points that we need to think about.
Actually, even just saying Green vs. Orange kind of rubs me the wrong way…both sites are useful for different things, at least to me. I do hope that people who are interested in discussing the substance of Jerome’s diary will come over here (despite Jerome not cross posting it here) for an interesting, in depth discussion.
I certainly can’t approve of anyone feeling like they should STFU, and I apologize if that’s how I came across.
I’m interpreting your statement that you’re not interested in Green vs Orange (since it’s the first line in your post) to broadly mean that you’re not interested in what my comment was about. So, since you’re not interested in that, I won’t force you to discuss it.
I guess I should point out that I don’t see my comment (that you were responding to) as being a Green v Orange comment. That’s why I ignored that part of your first sentence. Because if I don’t ignore it — your response seems to be a non sequitor.
(sneaking in to say, HI! MaryB!!)
Now you did, I have to go read Hunter to figure out what you’re talking about.
Or maybe I’ll just keep checking out everyone’s photos…
Hotlist the diary. Don’t read it now. Enjoy the photos. Enjoy the weekend. Read it later. Why? Bcause experience tells me that when he writes a meta diary like this it is followed within 3-4 weeks by mass exoduses and/or bannings. Best to be prepared.
Why bother reading it? Hunter’s a great writer and such, but I never read his meta diaries for the same reason I stay away from all other meta diaries now – most of the time, it is taking what is a fairly frivolous topic and speaking about it in a fashion that is far too serious.
On that note, I’m going to go watch Vanilla Sky now to get my mind off of this nonsense. Congrats on the Cards winning the WS, Mary. đŸ™‚
Thanks Psi!
And whatever the hell Vanilla Sky is, I hope you enjoy it.
Hi CabinGirl, I liked your photos!
Thanks! Good to see you over here.
But I don’t want to have it until November 7. There should be a single-minded focus on winning the upcoming election, and winning it big.
I’m curious. What do you STFU types believe will happen if, during the two months before an election, lots of people discuss issues y’all disapprove of?
I suggest opening the version over at euro trib instead if dial up is a concern, he posted it there originally then cross posted it at dKos.
I don’t think so. But as usual, there’s a lot of comments from people who read the title and not much else, and the typical bickering of extremely dense people. If those people didn’t post, there’d be maybe about 300 comments that were useful.
so true …
Yep.
who I guess are the electoral left of our politics are often well to the right of European center-right parties, so in some ways it is hard to dispute Jerome’s title although many of my compatriots particularly those from the Dem side of the US right may not like to hear this.
that place turned into Little Orange Footballs quite a while ago.
