Bush breaks his first campaign promise. CNN reports that the AP is reporting that Rumsfeld will resign. Cold comfort for a lot of newly unemployed Republicans.

Good.
Now, let’s the get the rest of those lying shitbags to do the same.
you gotta give Bush/Rove credit. Yea, hate to write those words but these guys are good. They knew Dems would be celebrating today. We just won the Senate.
What. a. better. way. to. rain. on. and deflect. the celebration?
Heard that?
Q. What has changed today that you’ve accept Rummy’s resignation?
Ans: What has changed? The election is over… the Democrats won!
Just as predicted. Lieberman goes to DOD and Cheney casts the tying vote.
I discussed this with Booman and Delaware Dem last night – I don’t believe Joe will take the job. He’s not a stupid guy, and taking a thankless 2-year job would effectively kill his career (and probably his image).
He has an image worth protecting?
Chess.

Tester has won over Burns. and Webb is leading Allen.
You beat me to it by being a lot less wordy. 🙂
Bob Gates replacing Rummy
Yeah, that’s the name I was looking for.
It’s lookin’ like we have 50 Democrats and an independent we are certain will caucus with the Dems (Sanders), assuming Virginia and Montana both hold up. That means Cheney doesn’t get to cast squat, and Joe can go run the DoD if his best friend wants him to. But again, in a Democratically-controlled Senate, there’s no guarantee the Dems will confirm him, except maybe to get him out of their hair.
Who would pick Lieberman’s replacement though? My impression was that it would be picked by the (Republican) governor, and that person would serve out Joe’s term.
Is that incorrect? (it may very well be)
You got it right, ej … Rell would appoint his successor. I’m still not convinced that LIEberman wouldn’t take SecDef if offered. Hope I’m wrong.
But my point isn’t that he wouldn’t take it if offered. My point is (1) that even if Bush were to pick him for the job, he has to get through Senate confirmation hearings — which would be conducted by Democrats this time around, so there’s no guarantee that he would even make it out of committee, much less slide through; and (2) even if he does end up as SecDef and the governor of Connecticut picks a Republican to succeed him, that makes the makeup of the Senate effectively 51-49.
So really, this is a non-problem.
In taking a quick look at Big Orange someone had a diary up saying one of Bush 41’s friends would be 43’s choice for the new SecDef, but I didn’t read the diary or follow up on it.
Wow! The Democrats haven’t even hung those drapes that they’ve measuring for weeks. I guess the WH don’t want a confrontation.
No, they probably wants to get a new SecDef through while they still have a solid majority.
Ding, Ding, Ding! We’ve got a winner!
Bush speaking now, looking depressed & incredibly aged. Bad jokes galore, nobody laughing. Then he gets pissy.
Let’s see who takes Rummy’s place. Has Daddy won at last?
Who the hell is Gates? People, this is almost better news than our great victory last night. I said almost. Who’s next? Was this a condition from Pelosi maybe? Let the freaken hearings begin. Rep. Conyers we’ve got your back.
Gates is a CIA guy for Bush 41 who was a CIA guy himself. Should get in easily. Probably knows which end is up, unlike the neocons, but definitely an American Imperium Forever sort of guy.
Gates is now the Prez of Texas A&M – home of the Bush Prez I Library. (The one with the moredifficult coloring books).
Meet the new boss:
Same as the old boss:
We won’t get fooled again by the likes of Bush cheerleaders like William “Billy-Bong” Kristol:
The DoD does not need a new face… It needs a new strategy that includes redeployment. Anythiong less than CHANGING THE COURSE, as Dems promised they would in the campaign, is just same BULLSHIT the Neocons sold unsuspecting Americans the first time around.
Dems have a “MANDATE”
and lots of “POLITICAL CAPITAL”.
I am certain they will find some great ways to use it to stop the radical Bush agenda in it’s tracks.
Billmon notes a few important facts missing from
Gates’ bio, Field Marshal von Rumsfeld’s replacement but that ‘he should fit right in’:
I’m in office. How did he get pissy?
Just a quick tone-change from ‘affable’ to ‘prickly with increased volume’ when the corps didn’t laugh at his jokes & insisted on asking questions.
.
The good news just doesn’t end today!
The people’s voice forces a small step forward today, the goal must be regime change in 2008. A long road to travel to rejuvenate the Democratic party within two years … much wisdom to Howard Dean and the grass root forces.
Bob Gates to replace Donald Rumsfeld …

Yep.
Looking for 2 more resignations especially that the recession has began…but have to be patient…let impeachment hearings begin.
Wikipedia is fast.
Say hi to the new SecDef.
Beat me to it, ej. Thank you.
Daddy wins; the ultimate plan remains the same.
I’m interested to hear more about what BooMan thinks of this nomination. I’m sure we will.
As I understand it, over the past couple years there was a major influx of DoD folk into intelligence, and now we have this Gates fellow going from intel to DoD?
Interesting.
.
“In early 1987 he was nominated to become the Director of Central Intelligence in early 1987, but withdrew after it became clear that the Senate would reject the nomination because of controversy about his role in the Iran-Contra affair.”

Hi Oui, I sure hope that congress’s memory does not fail on this one either. He must be a close friend Negraponte…no? To have those qualifiers around…..;o)
There is a Santa Clause!
I did wake up to Christmas morning. . . early!
Let’s all take a couple of days to savor this before we start picking everyone apart.
Rummy, GONE! Repub majority, GONE! Do the Snoopy Happy Dance and love our present.
Hot Dawg!!!

(Never so happy to have been so wrong about the outcome of this election!)
Bush, re working with Pelosi, says he knows when campaigning ends & governing begins.
Now that’s a good joke!

Wow wikipedia is really fast they already have up on his name that he has been nominated.
I await further resignations with bated breath.
Or suicides.
(Also known as “unexpected deaths”.)
“You can go play virtual golf with Kenny Boy. Won’t THAT be nice.”
Yup.
AG
well I still waiting on cheney and then I’ll jump up and down. It appears Rummy offered his resignation one too many times. He he .
While I want Darth to pay for his crimes, I don’t want an heir apparent in office for the next two years, getting basically free exposure.
that would make your wish come true.
Frankly, this looks like a tiny bit of a Bush meltdown.
‘There are some perfect people who aren’t perfectly content’ .. ?
Quick, save that legacy, you dumb-ass!
Anybody else hear MSNBC censor the Prez’s LIVE news conference? Answering a question about possible course change in Iraq, Bush quoted Cheney. From the context and from what I managed to lip read, I think he said something about, “Leaving before the job is done.” The audio was one long BLEEEP. I ran the TIVO back to hear it again. I couldn’t believe it.
Weird, no?
WTF?!?!?!
Did Bush cuss or something on TV?
And I just turned my tv on for the news for the first time in months.. and that little weasley fucker still can’t speak and is still a lying bunghole.
When can we string these fuckers up for War Crimes?
Gawd he was so rude to some of the reporters. Cripes!
The very picture of a ‘world class asshole’, DJ.
& now, the picture of a world-class asshole finding himself alone before the adults, answering for his bratty behavior.
where it may. Not only is the first consequence of the Drape-Measurers election Rumsfeld’s forced resignation, but Jaba the Hastert has announced he will not seek Minority Leader in the Extremely Madeover House.
America welcomes America back.
Rummy is resigning! Talk about PERFECT timing! (that’s assuming we were stuck with him through at least yesterday, that is.)
