It was kind of his follow-up to “This Land Is Your Land.”
Come and take a walk with me through this green and growing land
Walk through the meadows and the mountains and the sand
Walk through the valleys and the rivers and the plains
Walk through the sun and walk through the rain
This is a land full of power and glory
Beauty that words cannot recall
Oh her power shall rest on the strength of her freedom
Her glory shall rest on us all
From Colorado, Kansas, and the Carolinas too
Virginia and Alaska, from the old to the new
Texas and Ohio and the California shore
Tell me, who could ask for more
This is a land full of power and glory
Beauty that words cannot recall
Oh her power shall rest on the strength of her freedom
Her glory shall rest on us all
Yet she’s only as rich as the poorest of her poor
Only as free as the padlocked prison door
Only as strong as our love for this land
Only as tall as we stand
For this is a land full of power and glory
Beauty that words cannot recall
Oh her power shall rest on the strength of her freedom
Her glory shall rest on us all

Oh, and I ment to add that I’m going to see Dana “cows with guns” Lyons this Tuesday evening in Hobart. He’s on a world tour to benefit rainforests, and locally is sing on behalf of Tasmanian’s Wilderness Society.
It’s would be my geezerhood as well as yours if it were not for Imogen’s influence on our music collection. She’s 12 years younger than I am and has expanded my listening preferences greatly.
Actually, I’d be surprised if anyone on BooMan knew Vika and Linda as they are Australian Islanders (and sisters, so they have that close harmony thing happening), and unfortunately are little known outside of Australia. Listen for yourself and you’ll see why we love them.
The Be Good Tanyas, based in Vancouver, are a group of I introduced to Imogen, and sing mostly american traditionals.
I’m sure you’d know Delibes’ classical “Flower Song” (also called the “Flower Duet”) if you heard it. You just might not know the name of the song or it’s composer; a common problem with classical music.
From an article titled “Top 10 Classical Works You Know, but You Don’t Know.”
No. 3: Sous le dôme épais (Flower Duet) from Lakme, by Delibes
* Already well known, Delibes’s Flower Duet was made ever-increasingly popular by British Airway’s use of the work in a fairly recent advertising campaign. This classic piece features a duet between a coloratura soprano and and a mezzo-soprano.
* Hear Delibes’s Flower Duet in the movies The American President, Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, and Meet the Parents.
* Listen to Sous le dôme épais (Flower Duet) from Lakme, by Delibes
Somehow when you posted this I knew that’s what the duet was going to be. I don’t remember where it occurs in The American President; I do remember it showing up in the movie Babe, in the scene where the power goes out on the farm I think.
I first heard Frou Frou singing “Holding out for a Hero” in Shrek 2, and loved the sound.
Likewise, I only became aware of Shelby Lynne when we got a tribute albumn of Dolly Parton songs (Dolly rocks!) and she did an absolutely kicking version of “Joleen.”
Let There Be Love – Simple Minds
Bete Noire – Bryan Ferry
Cherokee Chief – Jerry Harrison
Dressing Up – The Cure
Daylight – Coldplay
Hooj Mix – Felix featuring Jomanda
Sugar Hickup – Cocteau Twins
Purple Haze – Jimi Hendrix
Ode to Simplicity – Secret Garden
Remind Me – Röyksopp:
How ’bout that, I’ve just been listening to some tunes getting ready to head out and wondering where I could share them, and here’s a whole lounge dedicated to it! 🙂
Here’s my list for the eve:
Touch the Sky – Kayne West
World Container – The Tragically Hip
MJB da MVP – Mary J. Blige
Whenever, Wherever – Shakira
Beautiful – Damian Marley
Go! – Common
Hold Ya Head – Biggie
Crazy – Gnarls Barkley
The Sun – Maroon 5
Smooth Criminal – Michael Jackson
Out of all the songs on there, the Mary J. Blige song is my favourite… it’s the remix of the 50 Cent & The Game song “Hate it or Love it” and damn it’s powerful.
Some catching up on work, some playing of video games, and some cooking of the fresh organic veggies that arrived at our door yesterday… and walking the dog while enjoying the mild temps.
Well Bootrib went away just as I was about to make some terrifically witty and sarcasm-drenched comment and while waiting for it to come back so many brain cells have died I no longer have any idea what it was.
But that is the advantage of geezerdom — in a few minutes the brain cells that knew that you didn’t know why will be gone and all that will be left is the funny.
Hi Miss Andi!!! I made the mistake of going back to work today and only made it half a day. I did stay long enough to give a speech on Family at Toastmasters and then came home. I plan to hibernate all weekend so I can finally be human again next week.
LOL I plan to sleep a lot on Sunday. I am thrilled at turning 48 because the alternative is not attractive in the least. I am sure Miss Andi is only 29 so how would she know about 48?

Hi MM. Have you considered one of those voice recognition programs. I used to have one a long time ago and it takes awhile to set up, but they do work pretty good.
BTW I completely agree. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome sucks!
Spent the morning and early afternoon at the art museum, where the Monet exhibit drew a record Veteran’s Day crowd. So the boy and I didn’t see that but just wandered around the free part of the museum.
This is a bad, blurry picture of a cool airplane sculpture hanging above the lobby. The plane is made up of thousands of precisely placed butterflies and the jetstream behind is flowers. All are strung on weighted fishing line and some of the butterflies randomly open and shut their wings. The entire thing is about 40 ft. long and I had to sneak the picture.
The Cleveland Museum of Art is one of the world’s best, so the one here is a tad disappointing, but it’s still a nice thing to do for free. The grounds are beautiful and there are several wind sculptures in the garden that are fascinating to watch.
I forgot all about the Monet exhibit and our plan was just to wander around the usually empty museum and it wasn’t until we saw police directing traffic that I remembered about it. I’ll probably go by myself some weekday morning.
The last museum I went to was the Witte Museum in San Antonio when the girls were small. I’ve always loved to just take my time and wonder around museums.
Are you kidding? Just getting FMom out of the house to go to one of her doctor’s appointments is sometimes a major accomplishment. Plus that would be a four hour round trip.

It’s kind of funny, the day after the elections I had noticed it was filling up again and equated the long dry season over with the good news about the elections.
Fmom might enjoy getting out for something besides a doctor’s appointment. You could always make it an overnight trip and take your time getting there… have a nice leisurely lunch and the museum and then a late morning and then drive home.
Good idea. I have a brother that lives outside of B’ham and he’s always trying to get us to come up and see them. I think the last time we were there was last X-mas. Maybe the next time we go, I can talk the whole family into going to the museum.

Omir I know 9 out of 10 on your. Damn you’re cool. 🙂
You ain’t so hot yourself. 🙂 (Stolen from Yogi Berra or someone)
What’s the tenth one?
The Power And The Glory – Phil Ochs. I must have heard it, but I can’t recall it.
It was kind of his follow-up to “This Land Is Your Land.”
Thanks Omir, but it still doesn’t ring a bell. Sounds like the kind of song I would like though.
It’s from his first album, “All The News That’s Fit To Sing.” Omir sez check it out.
Old and worn music except for a few.

Thanks keres. I just tried to play it and my computer froze. I’ll have to figure out what I did wrong and try later.
Somehow when you posted this I knew that’s what the duet was going to be. I don’t remember where it occurs in The American President; I do remember it showing up in the movie Babe, in the scene where the power goes out on the farm I think.
It is a beautiful piece of music.
in Babe so I popped in our copy (for family with no children we have an impressive number of “kids” movies).
The Delibes’ piece in Babe is the “Pizziciti – from Sylvia.”
The other classical pieces in Babe were written by Camille Saint-Saens, George Bizet, Edvard Grieg, and Gabriel Faure.
Serves me right for relying on my own memory. Well, they’re both beautiful pieces of music. How’s that?
Not trying to show you up, but I was wondering about my memory after what you wrote. And yes, they are both beautiful pieces.
I decided to let Babe run in the background.
Hey, you have the Be Good Tanyas…I love them.
FrouFrou and Shelby Lynne are cool too.
Don’t tell anyone, but I liked Dolly’s Horns and Halos album.
FrouFrou has a track on the Garden State Soundtrack that i really like too.
This is what came up:
Let There Be Love – Simple Minds
Bete Noire – Bryan Ferry
Cherokee Chief – Jerry Harrison
Dressing Up – The Cure
Daylight – Coldplay
Hooj Mix – Felix featuring Jomanda
Sugar Hickup – Cocteau Twins
Purple Haze – Jimi Hendrix
Ode to Simplicity – Secret Garden
Remind Me – Röyksopp:
Pure, sweet electronica the last one.
Only 1 ask. I like the youtube post though.
That one had better be Hendrix or I’m taking away your geezer card.
Hendrix? Didn’t he play piano? 🙂
Of course it Hendrix. You couldn’t claim geezerhood unless you knew Hendrix.
How ’bout that, I’ve just been listening to some tunes getting ready to head out and wondering where I could share them, and here’s a whole lounge dedicated to it! 🙂

Hi spiderleaf. I recognize names, but no the songs.
Out of all the songs on there, the Mary J. Blige song is my favourite… it’s the remix of the 50 Cent & The Game song “Hate it or Love it” and damn it’s powerful.
oops… and… hey there FM, hope things are cheery in your neck of the woods heading into this much needed weekend 🙂
Doing OK so far. Hope you have a great weekend planned, or just a slackerly weekend to do nothing.
Some catching up on work, some playing of video games, and some cooking of the fresh organic veggies that arrived at our door yesterday… and walking the dog while enjoying the mild temps.
Should be a nice one 🙂
The catching up on work on a weekend doesn’t ever sound good. Although I have to admit, before I retired, I did the same.
Everything else sound great, but better get those mild temps while you can. Even down here the low for Sunday is supposed to be mid 30’s.
Good stuff there.
I just downloaded Shakira (my daughter has had her for some time). The hips, the hips.
Too bad you don’t having anything by the Comically Unhip so I could relate.
I dunno Andi, I tend to think of you as the Sarcastically Hip myself 😉
Well Bootrib went away just as I was about to make some terrifically witty and sarcasm-drenched comment and while waiting for it to come back so many brain cells have died I no longer have any idea what it was.
So that happens to other people too. Go figure. 🙂
I can’t — the brain cells that could do that are long gone.
I think this entire thread is funny, but for the life of me I can’t work out why.
But that is the advantage of geezerdom — in a few minutes the brain cells that knew that you didn’t know why will be gone and all that will be left is the funny.
My collection is predominantly movie scores…
* I can’t read the composer’s name, it’s in Japanese….
What a week. Not that I’m complaining… It feels so GOOD.
Hi Janet. I know I’ve heard some of them, but I can’t recall how they go. I need to watch, or listen, to movies more.
We have lots of soundtracks. Right now I’m listening to the Melanisian Choir Chants from the movie Thin Red Line.
We also have lots of Loreena McKennitt. Not the kind of music I’d listen to daily, but really wonderful to revisit.
and your #2 and #6 are on my “to purchase” list.
I’ve got the soundtracks to all 6 Star Wars movies, though… 😉
Happy Friday to everyone!!!!!
how ya feeling?
Hi Miss Andi!!! I made the mistake of going back to work today and only made it half a day. I did stay long enough to give a speech on Family at Toastmasters and then came home. I plan to hibernate all weekend so I can finally be human again next week.
Got 4 of yours Refinish. Are you feeling better?
LOL I wish… I am as a weak as a newborn and still feel like crap. LOL I still have a quite a few cd’s I have not downloaded yet.
I hope you get to feeling better soon. Sending good thoughts your way.
Thank you!!! I plan to have a very quiet birthday weekend. Turning 48 and being sick at the same time is the pits. LOL
That is the pitts. Just incase you sleep through your B’day – Happy Birthday Refinish!
BTW 48 is still a spring chick. Just ask Andi. 🙂
LOL I plan to sleep a lot on Sunday. I am thrilled at turning 48 because the alternative is not attractive in the least. I am sure Miss Andi is only 29 so how would she know about 48?
Well you can’t be Queen of the Geezer and be 29. Well now that I look at it, I guess you can. 🙂
ROTFLMAO!!!!! Well, my mom is still 29 and she was born in 1935. I gave up on the math years ago.
so which day is your birthday?
November 12th, 1958. I will admit I am feeling old this year but I think that is more the flu than anything else. LOL
You’re two years younger than my baby sister — so you can’t be old is you’re younger than a baby.
ROTFLMAO!!! Thanks for that.

meh?
Except for Toots and the Slackers it lacks a certain, I don’t know, character. 🙂
I don’t know — seems to me there’s a certain whimsy in the combination of Boob Job and Doctor My Eyes.
If the doctor would fix my eyes I wouldn’t need a boob job. They’d look fine to me.

we’re all sorry and very sympathetic but we still want a frog picture.

There’s bound to be one in B-ham. It’s a nice leisurely thing to do with FMom.

I’d rather go to Elly May’s cement pond. Which reminds me, I’ve got to take some new pictures of our pond. The last rains started filling it up again. It’s kind of funny, the day after the elections I had noticed it was filling up again and equated the long dry season over with the good news about the elections.

the video for the Guns N’ Roses piece…one of my all time favorites…not really a big GN’R fan, but I have this one and “Welcome to the Jungle”…
I don’t have anything by Gun N’ Roses. I really need to broaden my musical horizons.
The video for November Rain is outstanding… although as it turned out a little to realistic with Stephanie Seymour.
My favourite G’n’R song is Civil War. Absolutely gets me in the gut each time.
I’ll just be a minute.
