May the 4’s be with you
We’ve got a fresh cafe and plenty to drink, or eat if ya want.
Come in an sit a spell.
now that you’ve started a new cafe, we’ll never know how long we could have kept the pattern going.
We can start now? π
In that case, I shouldn’t be answering you for another 26 minutes.
I guess I lasted about 4 minutes. Does this I like to talk a lot?
Yes, just like all southerners. LOL
Now I wouldn’t say it’s limited only to the South. I think talking is pretty much all over the country.
true but noone can spin a yarn quite the way a southerner does. LOL
You do have a point. π
A southerner always does even if noone else knows what it is. LOL
Well, I feel like an idiot. I am posting in the other pond and waiting for a response. LOL.
Hi Refinish.
No reason to feel that way. I always do that at cafe change times.
Howdy Familyman!!!! Are you and FMom feeling better?
Yep we’re doing better. Just takes time.
How’re you doing today? You seemed in a rush this morning.
I was in a massive hurry this am to make sure I wasn’t late. I had already heard there was a car fire on the freeway so I knew traffic would be slow. Luckily I made it to work on time.
Your standards for feeling like a fool are way too low. If I standards like yours, I’d have to feel like a fool about 90% of the time. π
ROTFLMAO!!!!! Well, it is hell when you don’t realize the joint is closed and you are all alone. LOL
Evening, froggies. Have you ever had one of those days where you get to school and the police are there and a teacher and the attendance officer are out the cold looking around for any kids that might be hanging around early? So you ask what’s going on and it turns out that a prisoner escaped from a nearby hospital, stealing a police officer’s gun in the process and was seen around 8:00 a.m. crossing the overpass on the freeway a block and a half from your school. So you have to work with the other teachers to secure all the entrances to the school, save one and then get all the kids into the auditorium as they show up. At 9:00, (the FIP hasn’t arrived yet, of course), so you have to organize about 300 kids and quickly and quietly get the to leave the auditorium in an orderly fashion when their teachers come to pick them up. Then you get to your room and continue lock down procedures. You shut and lock your door, then move the kids desks and tables to the back of the room so that they are not visible through the glass in the door.
The next 7 hours you are locked in the room with them. Half the room, because you want them away from the window in the door. Breakfast and lunch are brought to the room. We have bathrooms in the room, a water fountain, and sinks so we can deal with those problems. Then at the end the day, you have to call around 50 people before you can get someone to come to school to pick up the kids, as they must be escorted home.
Then, after quitting time, you wait in a auditorium with 250 kids who have been locked in one room all day while you all wait for a family member to come and sign then out.
Then you go home, the guy is still on the loose, and what’s tomorrow going to be like?
Don’t you just hate days like that?
OMG!!! What a horrible day!!!! I hope they catch him soon so that you can get back to a normal day at school if there is such a thing.
Gee Teach if you had a boring day, just say so. π
for the lockdowns. He went through one last year but at least his wasn’t all day.
Thanks for the concern. I’ve got a few chores to do and then I might just call it a night. I just checked and the guy’s still loose. I might check back later, but if not, I see all ya’ll tomorrow.
BTW: The kids did fine, but I’m a little concerned about a boy who’s father was murdered the night before Thanksgiving. I hope this doesn’t push his buttons.
Sending good thoughts uyour way and to the student!!!!
What Refinish said. Good thoughts to you.
I hate those days. It’s been a couple of years since we had a lock down, but it sucks.
Hey, what do you think of your new president? I saw the AFT-MI president today, but I didn’t have time to ask him much.
They impeached Bush and noone told me? LOL
I’ve been dethroned from the slackers club or what?
I wish.
I voted for her.
I hope it all goes well.
The last contract was a bad one and with it, I felt like Janna Garrison had lost her ability to lead the union. I do not know Virginia Cantrell well, but she remained energetic and upbeat during the whole mess this fall. Also, Steve Conn’s group would be a disaster. Anyway, I thought we needed a change. Garrison was broken by the job. If she ever up to the task, in the end it wore her down. Her health has taken a beaten and she looks like she has aged 20 years. She had the misfortune of leading the union through lousy times. Let’s see how Cantrell holds up. I see only dark times ahead for both our districts. Want to start a charter school?
I thought that I had read that the AFT had started a charter school in D.C. I’d only do it under those circumstances. I’m up for it though.
I often wonder if that’s the only way out of this mess. I am so tired of the incompetence and mediocrity. I feel that I am becoming worn down and giving in to press to let things slide. Teaching is becoming less enjoyable every day.
When I first heard about this abomination, I told my colleagues that we needed to march on Washington. Now that it is up for renewal, it’s time to think seriously about it. That is a large part about what is bugging me about the profession. The other is completely incompetent administration.
Our is profession plagued dominated by the big lie. Become an administrator and start cheating on the MEAP to keep your job. Community falling apart, so kids are coming to school with no social or pre-reading skills, lie about the behavior problems. Kids can’t read, shove them up a grade, and throw harder work at them. The inner cities falling into chaos? Blame the schools and start “academies” so the the local politicians and middle class don’t have to have their kids mix with “those kids.” You want to see segregation America. Just look at how middle class blacks in Detroit make sure that their kids don’t go to school with ghetto kids. Prop 2? Ha! Let”s make sure so mediocre white suburban students get some more breaks. We’ve written off about 700,000 people just here in Detroit. There ain’t no affirmative action on God’s green earth that is going to lift most of my school’s families out of the ghetto.
I have to stop. This is too much.
I know what you’re saying. I sat in today on a meeting where we decided which teachers, colleagues, peers would be laid off in January.
You decided? It wasn’t a straight seniority thing?
Yes and no. It’s complicated and I am sure that there’ll be grievances. Some positions were eliminated, thus causing bumping, etc.
Who was the “we?” At what level was this, building or district? We are completely powerless in this regard at my school. I pointed out to my idiot new principal on count day, how many positions we would lose and the range the options. Then she did so many squirrelly things, that a bad situation is now incredibly bad a getting worse.
How’s Andrew?
And how’s the librarian plan coming along?
Andrew is great. I am looking into a couple of on-line courses to satisfy some state requirements. The problem with grad school is that I live, not only out of state, but out of country, thus doubling tuition. We really need to save some cash.
Other than that, two weeks until break. What’s new chez Andi?
That’s really ugly on the tuition. I hope the online stuff works out.
Nothing new here. I’m taking vacation when Jim is off starting the 22nd so I’m really looking forward to that.
All that free time you’ll have over Xmas sounds like the perfect opportunity to take a bunch of pictures of Andrew and regale us with them.
Oh, don’t worry, I’ll take tons of pictures.
well folks, I am going to go blow up chickens and then maybe go to bed early. Have a great night!!!!
Am I getting less geezerly or is Refinish getting more geezerly with the bedtime thing?
More from my recent Monterey jaunt.
That’s just beautiful.
Thanks, TT. It was fun to back there, even if only for a few days.
Wonderful shot MM. How are you doing this fine day?
Still OK and nursing the CTS. Hope you are keeping up a high standard of napping and slacking. We look to you for inspiration.
I am going to go blow up chickens
Lovely picture. I think I even like it better than a frog. π
Now THAT is saying alot!!! LOL!!
Did you ever decide what you wanted to do with your journals?
I am going to go blow up chickens
you’re stuck in a rut — i think you should blow that up.
What is this I hear about blowing chickens?
Sounds kinda fun…in a Duck Hunt-kind of way. ;D
I love duck hunt!
Gonna get any sleep tonight PF?
I just woke up…I wasn’t tired, but I crashed around 5:30 until just a few minutes ago. Ironically, I feel more tired now…I probably could’ve slept straight through until tomorrow morning, but I have to prepare a Japanese presentation…this is the 2nd-to-last thing I have to do this semester academically! π
Yay! Then what, about a month off?
3 weeks…I’m going to take the first week off, but I’ll be spending the rest reviewing all the material I’ve learned to date and preparing cover letters, resumes, etc.
Are chickens peckers?
In the truest sense of the word. π
Chicken peckers fail to excite me.
(I’m auditioning for the part of your straight man.
SN’s straight man or RF’s straight man? Me thinks that there’s a huge difference.
has to be SN ’cause RF don’t need no straight guys.
Good night folks. I’ll see you later.
This man just wants to make sure we fight as hard as him. I`m just putting it out here.
THIS PUTS THE POEM “TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS” IN A DIFFERENT
PERSPECTIVE…..
The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.
The sound wasn’t loud, and it wasn’t too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn’t quite know, Then the
sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.
A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.
“What are you doing?” I asked without fear,
“Come in this moment, it’s freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!”
For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts..
To the window that danced with a warm fire’s light
Then he sighed and he said “Its really all right,
I’m out here by choice. I’m here every night.”
“It’s my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.
No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I’m proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at ‘Pearl on a day in December,”
Then he sighed, “That’s a Christmas ‘Gram always remembers.”
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ‘Nam’,
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.
I’ve not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he’s sure got her smile.
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue… an American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother..
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall.”
“So go back inside,” he said, “harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I’ll be all right.”
“But isn’t there something I can do, at the least,
“Give you money,” I asked, “or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you’ve done,
For being away from your wife and your son.”
Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
“Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we’re gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us.”
LEASE, Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people
as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our
U.S.service men and women for our being able to celebrate these
festivities. Let’s try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make
people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves
for us.

try this one on…”free blues”…enjoy
Thanks dada,
What I do is save them to the desktop & let them download. If I try to listen to them immediately, they play, then stop& load more, then play a little more. I listened to the first 30 seconds , then for another min. That`s my kind of music, as a solo performance.
Thanks for sharing that.
Thanks Miss Maryb. How do the shoes fit?
LOL! My fictional truckloads of shoes fit perfectly. Especially the glass slippers I bought thinking I was in a different story.
Well you’re certainly not the old woman than lives in a shoe. π
No but you might be Sleeping Beauty.
But now you’re awake?
I don’t know, Rip Van Winkle might come closer to me. I don’t come close enugh to the shoe section.
Why are you up so late?
Fell asleep in chair. Will be remedying shortly. How are you feeling so far.
Good, although it’s been a hard week for various reasons.
Sleeping in a chair isn’t good for you, go to bed π
Doing that right now. Hope you have a good night and tomorrow.
Night All.
This is a little naughty, but it`s like the guy that was suprised by a cop having intercourse with a pumpkin out in a field. When the cop asks him what the hell he`s doing that for, the guys says, damn, is it after midnight already. So, watch out for what story you`re in, or the cruel step-sisters will take away your law degree.
wise advise π
Has Teach started your back story yet?
I don`t have a clue, whether he is or not.
It will come as a surprise. One night he’ll just announce that the first part is complete. And we’ll all rush over to read it.
Then people will start confusing the fictional you with the real you — or at least the you that shows up in blogtopia.
Well, hopefully I`ll get to follow it, as it unfolds. That way, the next time there`s a “Tell us about yourself diary” I` ll have something to back it up.
maybe
My back story would only get me run out of BT π
