Luna’s been a bit upstaged by Albert of late (Albert does that).
So I thought I’d put her back front and center for this weeks installment.
Here are more ‘action’ shots of her playing her favorite game: catch/keep away.
Since humans clearly do not offer her enough opportunities to catch her rope toys, she throws them for herself (and usually catches them) while she runs back.
As you probably have surmised from the top shot, for humans this is a “protect your knees” game – because she’ll take them out from under you if you are not watchful.
We got to see a live Great Pyr on our holiday trip to KY this week. He was basking on the warm floor in the back of an antique store; I recognized him immediately because of his resemblance to Luna. (And Yes, I certainly thought that we hadn’t see much of Luna recently!. Thanks for correcting that deficiency, Keres!).
The beastie was very soft, looked to be all white, though not particularly clean – it was the last of several rainy days. He was quite willing to be greeted, petted, fussed over, etc.
But not nearly as good a dog as Luna. I found myself longing for pics of Luna in action.
Around 10% of Pyrs are all white. I like the color on the ears, which is usually all that is still clearly evident once the puppy markings fade. If you’ve seen “Finding Neverland” the the Pyr that played Barrie’s Landseer was heavily marked. You’ll also note how much larger and heavier the English Pyrenean is compared to other Pyr populations. I like the smaller, less blocky ones myself.
One of the hilarious out-takes from “Finding Neverland” (on the DVD) is Depp walking with the dog, who stops to pee. The dog is really a bitch, but she’s playing a male dog and Depp chides her for peeing like a girl – and proceeds to lift his leg on a tree to show her how she should “act” the scene.
Most Pyrs are friendly, but a bit aloof. Luna can be aloof at times, but usually tends towards the more out-going end of the Pyr spectrum. Pyrs can also be very shy with strangers, which comes from their guardian tendancy towards a suspician of the unknown, so don’t take it personally if you approach a Pyr and he/she shys away.
I am endlessly impressed with how good your action shots are.
Here’s another, with the bouncing butt up in the air, with part of our “zero-scaped” garden behind her.
And yes, just above her tail is a toilet used as a planter – it’s very ah’Stralian.
The face (and posture) that every dog knows humans cannot resist.
is absolutely futile.
Thanks for the extra pics.
Hi Keres.
Luna is looking great as usual. I had promised to put a new picture of George up and here it is.
8lbs. of dog with 100lbs. of attitude.
Yep you’re right. That’s the reason anytime I take him out without the leash, I have to be pretty close to him. If he see any other dog, he takes out after them.
from that vantage point you can’t tell how big or small he is. It tricks the eye. Nice shot, FM.
Hi SN.
Yep I guess it does. I’ll be taking some pictures of him tommorrow. I’ll em you one and see what you think. 🙂
I must say, FM, I like George nude as opposed to gussied up in that tux you make him wear on formal occasions.
Hi KS.
Thanks. When George is serving in the cafe, he likes to get dressed up.
George is looking good! Maybe you should consider making calendars of The Many Moods of George and use this one as the cover … you might just make a slackerly fortune!
I know you say he’s a yapper, but he’s still a cutie in practically anyone’s book!
Here’s a picture of George I took awhile back and I used in the cafe.
at The Pack’s water dish which the local authorities are now declaring an attractive nuisance.
What is that in the pan?
I think it’s time to get your glasses adjusted (it’s a mouse).
Really. I thought it was a little chipmunk. :0
The water does make its fir look rather strippy (I thought chipmunk as well, at first glance – then I realized it was a mouse).
If I remember correctly from my childhood swiming pool days, that means you’ll have to install a five foot or better perimeter fence, with a second internal fence around the bowl, all with child-proof latches and padlocked when unattended (I grew up in California, which is know for its regulations).
that says “No lifeguard on duty. Swim at your own risk.”
That’s right, I forgot the sign. Good catch.
I’m wondering, how that would read in “mouse”?
Not sure but I’m thinking the sign should be written out in D-Con pellets.
I wasn’t sure if it was the water container or the dead rodent that was the “attractive nuisance”.
In our neighborhood, fishponds have become the latest yard ornament for keeping up with the Joneses. Our neighbor is mystified as to why we don’t want one. I’m mystified as to why she’s surprised to see cats, dogs, possum, raccoons, birds, and other non-fish in and around these water gardens. (Not to mention the annual fish die-off when the yards get sprayed). I’m waiting for the inevitable accidental drowning to occur – few have fences other than being inside an enclosed yard.
Interestingly, although the dogs love chasing mice, dead mice in their water dish is a complete no-go — so in that case the mice are an unattractive nuisance.
Fishponds sound like a very attractive nuisance for the Gof4
It looks like a mouse-skin rug complete with attached head. Awww.
I suppose if you wanted to take up tanning skins at home it would be a quick and cheap first project.
In about 13 hours from now, Inti will be getting “zipped.” Or possibly “unzipped.” Anyway, he’s getting sheared first thing tomorrow morning. It will be his first shearing and I’m betting he will not be happy with either the proceedure or the result (very skinny, nearly naked, alpaca).
I’ll post before and after pictures.
The other alpacas were worried that we’d brought someone else home from the shearers – ‘cuz he sure doesn’t look like the one we left with.
Inti, with his little sis Pacha, and mum Nina, looking absolutely woebegone.
Aww! It reminds me of when I’d get the boys’ hair buzzed for the hot summers when they were little. They looked so tiny and naked and vulnerable for a couple of days.
This was taken about a month ago, when Pacha was about a week old and she and Nina were still being kept separate from the boys.
Inti spend most of his day by the fence watching them. I don’t think he was coping well with the demotion from ‘the baby’ to mere child.
Keres, these photos are absolutely amazing to me. Thanks so much for posting them! What a fine family.
Just thought I should get back into the dog blog, so snapped a few of our pups on Christmas night, enjoying their brand new bones. Amazingly, though there were a few growls, no one ‘snapped’ and went after another … and at this point, days later, they are swapping them back and forth with impunity…

Here’s Pepa gnawing away …
And here’s Rolly actually letting me get a shot of his face!
And finally, all three of the pups reveling in their new treasures amongst the general debris …
Would love to be able to post some of them frolicking in the snow, but we’re looking at breaking an all time record for the least amount of snow (1/10th of an inch) during the month of December… and only rain on the way in the next few days.
And Keres, I imagine you’re barrelling into spring after your chilly time … looking forward to more fantastic pics!
Ok, one final shot from our house to yours … here’s all three patiently waiting on Christmas Eve for Santa Dog to arrive and bring them multitudes of treats and goodies. Don’t worry, they were well rewarded for being good doggies this year … even Andy (the abominable snowdog)!
If we’re lucky, we might even get some party hats on Pepa and Andy for New Year’s Eve … no chance of that with Rolly, though he looks good in a hat, he just won’t tolerate it!
Cheers, critter lovers!
Hey there IVG, glad you and the dogs could drop by. The pack is looking very festive, and only a little bit chagrined by the photographer.

with her new squeaky pheasant enjoying a bit of sun between storms.
WHat a beautiful shiny coat.
Lovely as usually.
Luna had a favorite squeekie toy when she was younger, but then she discovered the joys of ripping toys apart, and replacement squeekies started lasting mere minutes. We switched to rope toys at that point.
He needed to take a nap midway through wrapping. It’s hard work, ya know?
Hopefully he fell asleep before swallowing the scissors.
What a cutie. I need a new picture of Esperanza to post.
them, and since they smelled nothing like a biscuit (cookie in Bud-talk), he was uninterested. The unscheduled nap was a blessing as I was having a hard time getting stuff wrapped with him slobbering all over me. As soon as the snoring started I sloooowly made my way to get the camera and snapped the shot. I’m always amazed at your Esperanza pix, Bud never sits still for me unless he’s sleepin’
THe ones of her sleeping are too obscene to post, as she does that wanton, on-the-back legs spread to the world pose.
I know exactly what you mean.
This is her post-dog park lethargy.
awwwww. This is what I mean, you must have lightning speed to get a shot like that because Bud would be hopped up and all over me before I got a chance to snap it. Then again, I have seen him after a long walk. It’s like the walking dead.
There’s my Bud! You know I’ve got a rug like that, and wrapping paper like that. Bud are you here? You’ve finally made it to Bama. 🙂
he’s figured out a way to be in two places at once, it appears that George has figured out a way to master the Glamour spell 🙂
That damn George. It has to be that. 🙂
Pax would like to weigh in with a hello and Happy New Year to everyone.
Thanks for all the great “best friend” pictures everyone. What a wonderful group!!
Of course the party’s not over – we had to wait for Pax to get the party started.
It would be great to see a “meet-up” between Albert and Pax. I assume Albert would not be amused. But they actually have some things in common, ie size and lots of fur.
Pax had the BEST Christmas. She got to spend hours playing with my SIL’s 6 month old chihuahua Daisy. This picture was taken when they first met and Daisy was itching to play. Pax took a while to get comfortable.
