Strangely enough, there is no ‘vegetarian” version of menudo, so I’ll pass. But thanks for offering. I’ll take a frijoles refritos stuffed sopapilla, if you could swing one. Heavy on the salsa.

Happy New Year (soon, anyway, for those of us on the Left Coast)!
I just had my second best New Year’s Eve ever. I met my current crush, Tony award winning composer Jason Robert Brown. I am a huge fan of his music – have all the albums he or others have recorded, but it’s been three years since his last musical. So I was really happy to be able to get tickets to his new musical “13”, starring thirteen 13-year-olds singing about the trials and tribulations of that age.
I had gone with a couple of friends who spotted JRB in the audience, and pointed him out to me. Ever bold, I walked up to him and gushed how much I liked his music. He was very nice, asked my name, told me he hoped I enjoyed the show – all generic stuff, but sincere, and friendly.
Of course I enjoyed the show. What’s not to love? The music was just great, of course, and the kids were very talented. They had some really good voices, great presence, and a few were pretty incredible dancers as well. The lead actor – a kid in a new town, trying to rally the popular kids to come to his Bar Mitzvah But to me, the star of the show was the music, and the man who wrote them, sitting several rows directly behind me as I watched. Sigh, that was pretty fantastic, second only to my dancing with Hugh Jackman on New Years Eve three years earlier!
I wish you all a happy, healthy, and far more sane New Year. I don’t know what’s ahead, but it’s up to us to imagine a better future than the recent past, and then work to bring that vision about.
I want to thank all the activists on this site – all those who run out, work on campaigns, make phone calls, writer letters to the editor, and do whatever it is that needs to be done. My hat is off and my heart is grateful.

Hey, I got gypped the only time I made it to Times Square for New Years Eve. It was sooooo packed I couldn’t get anywhere with a sightline to the ball dropping. I laughed hard with my friends – we went all that way NOT to see it. But since that was the Hugh Jackman night AND since I got to see my two oldest and dearest friends, it was a grand night. It was the same two guys tonight. We all sang together in a show one summer long ago. It’s great that we still get together now and then.
(Sondheim fans get the reference. One of his best songs from one of his least known shows.)

Oh My Heavens, Ya’ll…..I went to bed early for I was exhausted from work yesterday…but had to just drop by this morning to say HAPPY NEW YEAR to each of you, my dear friends…..You, each of you, have at sometime or the other made a big impact on my life….for the best, and I send a great big thank you for this….
I pray that 2007 gives to us each hope and understanding and love and endurance, guidance, and for what it is worth, more frogs to come to the pond to enjoy. Each of you are welcome to my lilly-pad any old day and we will surely have a great time. ribit ribit ribit.

Upon thinking back on the old year of past, I am truly glad it is over and done with. I am looking forward to the year of 2007. I am anticipating great things in this year. I want to think in optimistic terms….so lets do the hard work it takes to get the job done. My heart goes out to each of you for the illness that you have had to endure in 06 and that maybe in 07 you will be much better. I wish each of you a healthy new year and full of energy to have a great life. May you find what you search for.
