Hey everyone! The day so far has been off to a great start. I’m going to use this diary to post pics and updates from DC throughout the day (though the updates will likely be sparse or non existent in the middle of the day).
I crawled out of bed at about 4am this morning to head to the airport. I was the only one in the shuttle from parking to the terminal, so the driver and I started talking. He asked what I was going to DC for, and when I told him about the March, he said he had heard about it on the news last night.
He obviously sticks pretty much to the cable news, but he knew what was up. One of the first things he said was “Man, we got to get out of there. And now, he’s talking about Iran? Is he for real?” We agreed impeachment was necessary. I was surprised he had heard about this on the news.
On my flight, at least 1/4 to 1/3 of the people on board were coming to the rally and march. They think it is going to be big. I agree.
After arriving in DC, I hopped on the metro and headed down to the Mall area. There are already a bunch of people gathering on the mall. Vermont appears to have a very large contingent from what I’ve seen.
I’m in the hotel now, and just had the pleasure of meeting BooMan and CabinGirl. Now I have to go find some caffeine.
I’ll leave you for now with a picture I took about 20 minutes ago.
Update [2007-1-27 11:19:26 by ejmw]:
Some pictures. The mall at about 11:05
There are a lot of signs regarding Iran out here as well.
Update [2007-1-27 18:12:46 by ejmw]: More pictures! Unfortunately, I took a lot of my better pictures with my camcorder because it was out, but I neglected to remember that I don’t have the cable for it. Oops. Anyway…
Say hi to the ex-SecDef. There were others of Bush, Cheney, and Condi, but I couldn’t get a good pic of them. Hopefully someone else did.
I don’t know who this young man is, but he gives me hope and he has a bright future.
Group shot:from left to right, BooMan, supersoling, tampopo, and Man Eegee. In the foreground, you can see the back of CabinGirl’s head as she addresses CBtY.
And finally, channeling Rocky at the end of Rocky IV…If you can make peace, and WE can make peace, then why can’t everyone make peace???
Thanks, I’m looking forward to the updates. I had the pleasure of meeting Boo and Cabin at ykos last year.
We’re (b2boy and I) going to a local rally later on.
Hi boran2! I hope you’ll take pictures at your rally and post them later. This looks like it’s going to be huge.
ps – BooMan says hi too.
Turn on C-SPAN for march coverage — Raging Grannies currently on the stage…
He was proceeded by an awesome 12-year old from Massachusetts, Moriah Arnold…let’s work to give her and all children a bright future…
I just have to say I am so GD proud of you all for representing us there! We MUST be heard. We MUST stop this insanity or Iran WILL be next. Go get em troops!
Me and my banjo would love to be there, but when you’re broke and DC is 3000 miles away and traveling is tough under the best of circumstances . . . well let’s just say, make us proud.
Did you get in on the human “IMPEACH” lay-down on the Mall (as reported over on Big Orange)? I haven’t yet looked to see how that went.
Hey Omir,
We did, but it did not turn out to be nearly as big as we would have liked…it was really just too far away from the area where everyone was gathered.
As BooMan just posted to the FP, we’ll have more photos up soon!
Thanks so much for posting!
Thanks olivia! It was a great day. Beautiful weather, and beautiful people everywhere.
Don’t believe the news reports saying less than 100,000. Pure and utter BS.
as par for the course … 🙂
It must be such a wonderful feeling to be amongst so many who believe in the same cause.
and now the liquor is flowing liberally to solidify the bonds. 🙂
did you get a haircut? I remember you had longer hair last spring at Leezy’s place…
Pardon me while I go into mourning for your lost locks… 🙁
but it’ll grow back quickly, what’s left of it anyways 🙂
You guys make me so proud of you and all the other amazing tribbers who turned out! As one who couldn’t make it (due to money probs and physical limitations), I am basking in the positive excitement you all are conveying with your diaries.
Muchísimas gracias, Manny! Got some Old Crow in the cupboard for whenever you make it down here, EJ. LOL…
Thanks for the pix, ej! Our best to everyone. We had a little midwestern rally of our own this morning and got to do a 30 on one with our congresscritter in person.
a hug no less! Anything’s possible now!
We saw each other. Eyed each others sweatshirts up a couple times, gave each other an askance look or two, and then cracked up and had people take our pictures.
Good times, good time.
