Actually, after dinner last night, I fell asleep pretty quickly and slept better than I have in weeks. Of course, I think that’s because of the bronchitis. Or maybe it’s the wonderful feeling of relief to hear how things have gone, and what changes he’s gone through on course.
That’s great to hear that this experience has worked out so well. I’m not exactly surprised — I know how much going away to camp changed me and it wasn’t even structured to do so.
I logged on at 7 a.m. with all the good intentions of stopping by the cafe to say hello, but got diverted to other areas. Hope everyone is warm and toasty this chilly morning.
Sounds wonderful. We got to hear Max Cleland in 2005 and felt very privileged. Kurt Vonnegut is another of our favorites. We once stood outdoors for a long time in near zero weather to get into one of his lectures. It was worth it.
I have done that and worse for musicians. I once stayed out in the open during a thunder storm to see if a free concert by Cleo Lane would happen. LOL She came on stage and pointed to me and my two friends and asked someone to find us chairs and towels since we were insane and to bring us backstage after the show. LOL
Morning Miss Andie!!! What a great picture!!! As much as I love city living, your pictures do make my soul ache for simpler things sometimes. I guess I am a paradox. I want the bustle and hustle of the city but I want the peace and tranquility of the country.
would be way to sedate for you. Jim and I are both homebodies — that makes it easy to do without the stimulation that cities provide. What would be nice for you, I think, is to have somewhere to go periodically where you could get just the right amount of calm solitude and then go back to the bustle.
You are probably right. I would be like Lisa on Green Acres. LOL If I ever win the lottery, I would have a city home and a country retreat and I am sure the coutry retreat would very seldom be used. LOL
As strange as it seems I do like my down or quiet time more than anyone will ever realize. One of the best trips I ever took in my life was back when I was a teenager. Our youth group went to the only privately owned cottage on an island in the Outer Banks in N.C. There was running water but no electricity. We had a battery operated radio that was turned on twice a day for weather reports only. No phone. We used oil lamps and candles in the evening for light. It was relaxing and soothing and without the distractions of the outside world, the group was able to bond a lot better and discuss issues and feelings as we never had before.
Hey, everyone. While trying to catch up on the latest pissing/screeching contest around here, I came across a most vile comment about our beloved Froggy Bottom Cafe. Of all the invectives, shit and bullshit being flung, that comment absolutely enraged me.
Some people think that we here are useless people engaged in useless banter, and much worse, we engage in that most horrendous of sins, posting animal pictures. Seems as if there are some who think we offer absolutely nothing to this site, and nothing in general, and that sticks in their craw like half a pound of dental gauze.
We are living in the darkest time our country has experienced since its founding; we are inching closer and closer to dumping our constitutional democracy and our rights as human beings. It’s a scary time to be aware of what’s happening. Meanwhile, life in America is full of reality tv, sales at the mall and yes, Marmot based holidays (groundhog day). Life in America is as silly and stupid and clueless as ever while everything burns. It’s very frightening. I come here to read Booman’s work, to read all the frontpagers, to get a handle on things. It’s tough.
I come to the cafe and I know that there’s always someone here with a smile and a silly story or picture. We can engage in the silliest of subjects and I take comfort in that. I also know that all of us here are here because we care. I may not always be capable of posts that are articulate and deep like some on this site, but I can come here and be with others who care.
I took deep offense to that snide remark about the FBC. Everyone is different and everyone has different needs. I hope the FBC never goes out of style. I have nothing but deep affection and gratitude for everyone who spends time for a little precious human interaction here in the cafe.
Me too, Nag. I just took it as someone was feeling left out and it made me feel bad. I love the FBC and it’s an integral part of the site. We can’t be all about politics all the time. I’ve laughed here – cried here – gotten stuff off my shoulders that really helped clear my head – I’ve made good friends. We’ve tried to be open and inviting and make newcomers feel welcome.
We could really use more help if anyone out there is listening and wants to host or wear the frogsuit!
SN, I saw your comment over there and it made me chuckle. I totally agree with you. This is not the first time someone has aimed at us to get at Booman. Screw ’em! If anything, it has made me realize how much I love the cafe and how I really need to spend MORE time here in between saving the world.
Who were they, where are they did you get their plate #. ha I read that also & I was wondering where one gets the millions of animal pics, or under what search heading. haha “Stand by Me”, what a song.
My mom used to say that & untill I saw a picture of a flower, called a cowslip [I didn`t know that then} I always pictured a bovine struggling underrneath a fence rail.
Hi Andi. Yeah, I ignored it the last time we were attacked, but not this time. I’ve had it up to here (gesturing wildly) with the juvenile tantrums.
That picture is wonderful! I love the warm-as-honey colors and the sheer contentment of the hearth. I also like your new sig photo, although I’ll be glad when you can replace it with something a bit greener.
I still didn’t replace my camera battery, I have to order the damn thing online. Poo on Sony.
I absolutely promise to order the stupid thing tonight. The horses are so cute with their shaggy winter hair. My shaggy winter hair, on the other hand… not so hot.
Andi
Why the tantalizing, already? I always want to know what`s on the other side of that hill, but all day I`ve stayed on the path. A very nice pic, again.
Ah, with your imagination I’m sure your visualization of the other side of that hill is much better than reality (which is that it flattens out to a ridge with heavily forested slopes that don’t let you see anything).
That`s just great then. A path to imagination. That`s why I preferred to stay on the path all day. I wish you could see all the places that path took me. Maybe you were there too.
That`s strange. I was just reading about a showing of an artist`s work, in the Museum of Canada. It was a dozen fire bells hanging from the ceiling
in a room. The clappers had been removed & replaced by motorized circular & rotating brushes hanging next to the bells. The motors were activated by harmonic sounds reflecting off the surfaces of the room & were also temperature active. When anyone moved in the room, the deflection of the sound changed & so did the harmonics. The interactivity
of the bells & people moving about, was also changed by the increasing heat in different areas, depending on where & how the people moved, as in, groups or individuals. Now for my question. did you ring a bell there. Here`s a link to the Brooklyn museum where I was looking into another artist Ron Mueck. The link to Canada Museum is in there. The Mueck show is really impressive. I saw a sculpture of his on the cover of Discover magazine, & argued with a friend & another person if they thought it was a photo, a painting or what. I think you`ll be surprised. http://www.nowpublic.com/ron_mueck_exhibition_by_the_brooklyn_museum
I hope.
:::tiptoeing in:::
Just sneaking in here to say hi in between bouts of real-life drama. 🙂
to get up so early?
Hope all is going well.
It’s going really well, and I have about 3 and a half hours till I see CBtE for the first time since he left.
I can’t sleep, but I think it’s because I’ve just been sticking with my east coast time clock.
because you have about 3 and a half hours till you see CBtE for the first time since he left.

Good morning, Andi and CG.
Hope you come back and tell us later, CG.
Who needs a gps to find you — I can tell where you are by your typing. 🙂
Shoot – you’re on to me 😉 5 th5n2
That diary would not have been possible from home.
I’m glad you did that diary. It was good not to let that discussion get lost.
I wish life was that clear: psssst! this is the way to go!
that is exactly how it feels. I usually don’t plan where I am going but my feet always seem to know.
Morning Fokks!!! I just got up but I also just went to bed at 5 am. LOL Here is the link to my latest podcast.
So Long Molly Ivins
I logged on at 7 a.m. with all the good intentions of stopping by the cafe to say hello, but got diverted to other areas. Hope everyone is warm and toasty this chilly morning.
Hi Indianadem!!!! I have read some of your comments in other areas this am and wanht to say bravo as usual.
Thanks refinish69. I thought about you when I saw the Molly Ivins clip in Kidspeak’s diary. Did you ever get to hear her speak?
Oh yes, I met molly at Demfest 2005. What a fantastic woman and soul!!!!
Sounds wonderful. We got to hear Max Cleland in 2005 and felt very privileged. Kurt Vonnegut is another of our favorites. We once stood outdoors for a long time in near zero weather to get into one of his lectures. It was worth it.

Now that I’m in my geezerhood, such excesses are few indeed;-)
I must be off – its time for me to rustle up some lunch for me and Mrs. Dem. Peace and be well everyone.
Have a great one!!!! I also have to run some errands.
and the wind is howling at 30-40 mph but then there are sun spots and wood stoves.
Morning Miss Andie!!! What a great picture!!! As much as I love city living, your pictures do make my soul ache for simpler things sometimes. I guess I am a paradox. I want the bustle and hustle of the city but I want the peace and tranquility of the country.

maybe but I bet you would find it more seductive than you think.

Mmmmm… looks really comfy in front of that stove. We haven’t had one since we moved to town. Its such a nice heat to snooze by.
it has an enveloping feel that you don’t get with any other kind of heat.
and none of the blast of canned air you get from a regular furnace.

I wholeheartedly concur with your opinion;-)
Who were they, where are they did you get their plate #. ha I read that also & I was wondering where one gets the millions of animal pics, or under what search heading. haha “Stand by Me”, what a song.
as in “I am seriously ignoring the stupidity”.
So did you like the picture of Sniff and Hopeful? 😀
I love you Miss Andie!!!!! and no Jim does not need to be jealous.
is Jim being jealous — I think that last time might have been in 1970.
LOL It’s cause he knows you are a fabulous woman he can trust. Jelousy usually means insecurity more than anything.
and Jim better watch out … 😉
to come down here and say that! 😉
one of these days I’m going to get my butt over the border … 🙂
about the same time you do a podcast. LOL
I think you’ve got her all figured out.
if it wasn’t true … 😛
One of these days I’ll surprise you all.
Maybe … 😉
that you do while I still have sufficient brain cells to know you’ve shown up (that gives you at least a year or two more).
hmmm … would that indicate your imminent retirement! 😀
Well, I am as bad about somethings. I have been planning a trip to Canada since I was 20. LOL
I don’t feel so bad now, as I have only been planning for months … 😉
LOL Yes but doing a podcast is much easier than traveling. LOL
I’ll give you that … 🙂
Get my butt over the border and
The cow jumped over the moon
et tu brute … 😉
LOL
Did you ever see a cowslip under the fence?
that I have … 🙂
I believe it`s also called a Primula veris
ROTFLMAO!!!!
My mom used to say that & untill I saw a picture of a flower, called a cowslip [I didn`t know that then} I always pictured a bovine struggling underrneath a fence rail.
Hi Miss Olivia!!!!!
It was good to read the positive news about your house hunt, and that you’re feeling better!
Thank you!!!! You will never know how big a relief that is. LOL

from me. I need horse pictures (she said shallowly).
I absolutely promise to order the stupid thing tonight. The horses are so cute with their shaggy winter hair. My shaggy winter hair, on the other hand… not so hot.
some pictures of in 5-7 business days. 🙂

You were, Olivia
By the sounds of it, I`d say hell ya.
Wish I could remember some it … 🙂
Well one thing I remember is when you saw the “cowslip” under the fence. Peals of laughter echoed from the forested far hills.
that does ring a bell … 🙂
