Beautiful shot today, Andi. Like you, I’m getting really tired of this cold weather. Every day the weatherman predicts that the nightime temps will be creeping up, but we’re still hovering around zero every morning. What I hate the most in this type of weather is having to go food shopping dressed is 50 pounds of clothes. I have one hot flash and I’m finished. That and I worry about the animals. I spotted an owl yesterday morning, sunning itself. Owl babies are either just hatched or just about to be hatched. It amazes me that owls nest through the winter. Well, Great Horned owls do. I’m babeling… off for more coffee.
We’re looking at next week before it starts to really warm up (and by that I mean still cold enough to snow on Tuesday). I’m dreading venturing out of the house cause it’s so cold.
Do you have owls there with babies? I’m worried about my chickens in this weather. I have to keep running out with more water because it freezes so fast.
Hi CG. There is such a thing as a heated poultry waterer, but you have to have a spot to plug the thing in, and they’re not cheap. I bought one this past autumn and it was close to $60. They are designed so that the birds can’t muck up the water too badly. Agway stores, or any farm supply store should have them. I suppose that you could also use a large heated dog bowl, which would be much cheaper and easier to find.
Great Horned owls’ eggs hatch around now in this area. In all the years we’ve lived here, we only located a nest with babies once. By springtime, they are huge already and both parents are involved with feeding, so there is extra activity. I look for animals and birds when I’m outside, so I notice when they’re around.
I’m afraid that sometimes it works the other way round and people look at the state of the nation/world and just give up. It can be hard to know how to convince them not to.
We have to convince people that we can hold elected officials to task and get things done. I talk about it all the time in my podcast that just becuase we elected them once doesn’t mean we have to again if they don’t follow through on their promises to voters. I would rather see a recolving door in conhress than some opf the jerks who have been their for years and done nothing for the country.(same goes for my state also.)
So do you get a your pad thai with a side of bamboo?
Okay, I know I wanted winter to show up but I would just want to remind the weather gods that I have always publicly stated that the temperatures should not fall below 20.
Have they gotten to 20 recently? I think it’s been below 15 in Cle for about a week. That’s the part of winter I do not miss at all – the constant cold and dense cloudcover.
I think at this point I’m keeping them home tomorrow too. They can go back Monday.
Apparently, no one at school has fessed up to what they’re passing around, so I’m not either. I just need an updated doctor’s note for the missed days.
Maybe they’ve all heard the reports that kids are too protected from germs and dirt and that why they get sick and have asthma so they’re just trying to help out.
Luckily, I have a lull in my work, so I think I’m just going to rest, blog, and work on the sweater I’m knitting. Maybe make indian food again, since we can actually taste that even with a cold.
I’m envious of your sweatshirt weather and dog-park outings. Jesse has a little league skills thing on Saturday, and it’s too cold to go have a practice catch or anything.
We’re supposed to have a high in the low 20s today. But my weather stipulation is for 20 to be the lowest it gets. Not that the weather gods seems to care.
Good Morning, everyone. Weather still sucking out loud, but I’m glad I don’t live in Oswego, NY. Those poor folks are working towards 6 feet of snow by the weekend.
CG, I’m sorry you’re all still sickies, but it sounds like you’ve got a great plan for today. MMmmm Indian food sounds great. We discovered a teensy hole-in-the-wall family run restaurant that has Mexican food and it is out of this world. I bet you could taste THAT, as good as Indian food.
The people is Oswego can have all my sympathy but I’m still effing cold. 🙂
Isn’t it amazing the difference between the Mexican food that you get in the little family restaurants and the junk you get at the chains. I used to always say I didn’t like Mexican food until I went to some of those family restaurants.
As for the Mexican food, you’re not kidding! Who knew that enchiladas could be served in a bowl floating in a spicy mouth watering soup type deal? I LOVE it.
Man, I’m sick to death of the cold also. It’s twice the work, twice the trips out the barn, etc. I thought that we’d dump this cold spell and be home free. Now they’re talking about a record breaking cold February. Waaah.
Are your dogs getting cabin fever yet? My cats are starting to climb the walls.
The dogs don’t have cabin fever because they go outside about 20 times a day for about 3 minutes at a time. Also, I’m still going for walks in the woods — just a lot shorter and wearing a lot of layers.
Sorry to hear about all the assorted illnesses and cold spells…don’t know if I should mention that we’re at 52 right now, expecting a high of 62…(ducks and covers)
Still waiting on the damn phone call from the transit district so the spouse can go fill the official pee cup — it’s likely that he won’t start retraining till the results are in, so we’re hoping it’s today so he can start on Monday.
Hoping to get a few things done today, even with the prospect of rain around here — trouble is there’s so much to do, not sure where to start… sigh
Morning Andi
Beautiful picutre expecially with the water droplet.
Ready for another wonderful Thursday?

Good luck with your chickens.
I think this is a hit and run. I’ve been up very early again and it’s feeling nap time to me.
Back later.
I was expecting this once I was the timestamp on your comment on Chris’ baby.
What if:
I don’t vote
I don’t care
I don’t participate in life
I don’t have/take time to be involved with politics
Well, then just look around at the state of our nation, and you got your answer ; )
wado
I’m afraid that sometimes it works the other way round and people look at the state of the nation/world and just give up. It can be hard to know how to convince them not to.
that’s been the problem, and still is….blame it on the other guy ; )
peace

I really should wait until after the first cup of coffee before I try and type anything. LOL
If we worried about our typos, we’d never write anything.
Morning Miss Andi!!!! You would think I would use the spell check since it is right there.
I’d say you shouldn’t worry — your very worthy thoughts come through quite clearly and hoo cars hough u spel?
LOL I do love you Miss ANdi!!!! You always make me smile or laugh several times a day and that is a wonderful gift to have and share with the world.
Thank you — that’s incredibly nice of you to say. And I’m very happy that I can do that for you.
I just call it as I see it. LOL
Good morning, everyone. I look like old man Finklestein in the morning, does that count?
Morning Second Nature. You look like him and I type like him. LOL
Morning RF. I’ll take some of that energy drink you’ve obviously consumed. 🙂
Well the energy drink must not have worked cause I have already taken a nap this am. LOL
how often do you look like panda instead?
Well I’m more panda shaped with an old man Finklestein face.
So do you get a your pad thai with a side of bamboo?
Okay, I know I wanted winter to show up but I would just want to remind the weather gods that I have always publicly stated that the temperatures should not fall below 20.

It’s 13 here this morning. How’s that balmy 40-degree stuff you’re having?
Time to make the cappuccino…
I’ve 15 degrees to go before I get there.
Morning. Would you like to give us the daily health status?
2 sleeping CBs
1 sick stomach
2 who have been up repeatedly in the nite with that lovely paroxysmal coughing…
How long are they contagious, and how much school are they going to miss?
I think at this point I’m keeping them home tomorrow too. They can go back Monday.
Apparently, no one at school has fessed up to what they’re passing around, so I’m not either. I just need an updated doctor’s note for the missed days.
Maybe they’ve all heard the reports that kids are too protected from germs and dirt and that why they get sick and have asthma so they’re just trying to help out.
How thoughtful of them…
Hope they start to feel better soon.
Thanks, refinish. They’re currently draped on the living room furniture, mugs of hot chocolate in hand. 🙂
Balmy is right though the locals are whining. I like it because you can be warm in the sun with just a hoodie.
How’s the sputum production going in the Cabin these days?
I’d say we’re quite productive this morning. 🙂
Luckily, I have a lull in my work, so I think I’m just going to rest, blog, and work on the sweater I’m knitting. Maybe make indian food again, since we can actually taste that even with a cold.

Same here . I don’t like TEX MEX or American Mexican food but love real Mexican food.
American Mexican food is real junk compared to the real thing, I agree. Gosh, I’m getting hungry.
As for the Mexican food, you’re not kidding! Who knew that enchiladas could be served in a bowl floating in a spicy mouth watering soup type deal? I LOVE it.
