if you’re like me, and I know I am…a PSA

if you’re like me, and I know I am…all the junk mail, tele-marketing bs really annoy the hell out of me…but I do however, know a couple ways you can significantly reduce, and possibily eliminate, a lot of the garbage that shows up in your mailbox and thru your telephone.

sound good?

let’s start with this:

JUNK MAIL…an annoyance that I have been fending off for many years, but one that I lose track of every once in a while, as the opt out expires every 5 years. This kills trees, annoys the hell out of people is adding to landfills everywhere re-cycling programs don’t exist, or are not participated in…it’s a long list, the negatives.

unfortunately, the USPS will not step forward with a rate increase, or anything that might reign this monster in, as that would be harmful to their bottom line.  there is, however, something[s] that you can do.

first, contact The Mail Preference Center – Consumer Assistance

How to Register for MPS:

You can register for MPS two ways:

Fill out the online form below with all required information. There is a $1 fee, payable by credit card, which verifies your registration and helps to protect our system from fraud. DMA uses secure payment transaction processing to protect your credit card information. Registering online is the fastest way to see results.

OR

Fill out the mail-in registration form below with all required information. Print the form and mail it with a $1 check or money order, payable to the Direct Marketing Association, to the address on the form. Processing by mail takes longer than online registration.

got that?

moving on now, what about those goddamned marketing phone calls? can you say

damn straight!

don’t call us, we’ll call you

                               http://www.donotcall.gov/

for those who may have been unaware, the US has a National Do Not Call Registry… click link above… it’s quick, it’s easy, it’s free…if you haven’t done so…do it today, you’ll be glad you did.

many states also have similar registries as well, so check with your particular state government for information.

also, MaBell…whoever she might be in your area, has a series of services that are very good at blocking incoming calls from non-caller id numbers and such. again, check with your service provider for options availability and costs.

for more information and strategies to reduce these nuisances further, check out the Do-it-yourself: Stop junk mail, email… for additional techniques.

with a very small investment of time, you can help yourself, help the planet, and send a message to the corporate entities that are preying on people and interjecting their presence into your life in increasingly inappropriate ways.

pass it on, and help people you know who may not have access to the intertubes take advantage of the choices available.
