And now I’m off to take the dog to the groomers.  See you all in a bit!

Ooooh CG!  What a smoky looking picture. 😉

Off to the dog groomers huh?  I’m just about to the point of getting the clippers out and clipping George.  Something I very much do not look forward to.

        It’s a great picture…somehow I knew you’d like to see it up there.  🙂

Unfortunately, ShihTzu fur is beyond my grooming capabilities.  The good news is that we can cut it REALLY short for the summer and it takes longer to grow back.

You have a great day, too.

Blogging from San Jose Airport (had to pay $7 but with an hour plus to kill it’s worth it).

Heard that Kucinich is going to make some sort of special orders speech sometime today — any word as to what he said? Might have to cruise the CSPAN website for info later tonight.

Although it’s not been that for me — I’m actually $116 ahead on my gaming budget. 🙂 And since the room is costing me nothing, I figure I’m playing with the house’s money to a certain extent. 🙂 🙂

SPAMALOT was excellent — highly recommend it to all the Pythonites in the Lounge. According to the Wiki it’s about 30 minutes shorter than the Broadway version, so I’d love to see that for a comparison. It was also obvious that they threw in a few strictly Vegas touches that aren’t part of the standard Broadway performance.

John O’Hurley makes a great King Arthur — I wasn’t into Seinfeld when it was on so I never saw him as J. Peterman and thus was unaware of his comedic acting skills; he’s also got an excellent singing voice. Got to say that I think the guy who played Not-So-Brave Robin practically stole the show.

Mellowing here in the room for a bit; going to watch some of my favorite ESPN shows, and also try and find Keith’s Special Comment on the Internets (Vegas is covered by Cox Cable and I don’t think they carry MSNBC — I’ve never seen it in any of the hotels I’ve been in). Debating whether to try and catch the Second City improv show at 10:30 tonight, or turn in for a decent night’s sleep (airport shuttle’s picking me up at 8:30 am). At my advanced age, I think sleep just might win out. 😉

    Hope everyone is doing well…

The same to you, FM. 89 yo mom broke her hip and in the course of her recovery, we found she has become more than a little forgetful about maintaining her daily routine, like paying the rent, etc. I’m keeper of the checkbook now. We barely staved off some utility shutoffs at her apartment. Also, since its a second floor unit, she won’t be able to return there because of the broken hip – no stair climbing, so we’re looking for suitable accommodations. Mrs. Dem and I live in a very small space, about 800 sq ft, so we can’t move her in with us and my brother’s home is too isolated out in the country. She really likes the rehab center where she’s living to recuperate from the injury, as half the old folks there are old friends of hers, so we’re waiting for an assisted living apartment to become available for her there. At least she’s walking well enough we can take her out to our place for meals and an occasional restaurant outing. My brother and I are meeting later today to organize her stuff at her old apartment for the move.

In other senior citizen news, I woke up about 4 am a couple of weeks ago with a front tooth rattling around in my mouth. I still don’t know what the heck happened, but it was a crowned root canal, so a lot of investment is out the window. The dentist says an implant would be the best thing, current price tag about $3500. If it was a back tooth, I’d just say so long, but I look like such a hick without it and since I’m already from south central Hoosierville I don’t need any image enhancement of that sort…

I’m so sorry to hear about your mother.  Falling is the biggest thing that I have to watch for all the time with FMom.  Since she broke her shoulder last Sept, she has fallen 11 times.  Luckily nothing more than some bruised muscles.  So anytime FMom is up, I’m usually up to help her.  I’ve got a friend in MI that just moved his Mom into an assisted living facility.  At first he said she didn’t want to go, but now she loves it.

One question on your dentist.  Is he trying to get you to finance his trip to Europe this year?  That price tag sounds really over the top.

Mom seems very happy where she is around friends. She had become somewhat isolated from them at her apartment, since most of them don’t get around like they used to and weren’t able to walk up to the 2nd floor to visit. She is especially happy she doesn’t have to fix her meals and has a nice view of the farm next door out the window.

Hi, ID, sorry about your mom and her troubles.  My husband’s mother is going through very much the same thing right now.

As for dental implants – well worth the money and I can’t understand why dental insurance won’t cover them.  They’d rather have you pull out all your teeth and then they’ll pay for full dentures.

I got two dental implants two years ago and haven’t had a single problems with them, while my traditional crowns are all crumbling and falling off.  Go figure.

I just wrote another one this morning.  They have a once every 30 day limit so I’m hoping it’s been more than 30 days since the last one.

I read with profound sadness (for I am tired of being angry) the recent letters regarding Lybrel and a woman’s right to choose to end a pregnancy that results from a rape, for they are inextricably connected, make no mistake.

It is about the inherent right of a woman to have complete autonomy over her own body.  No one is forcing her to take Lybrel.  No one is forcing her to end a pregnancy.  You may choose differently for yourself, but that doesn’t mean you have the right to force your choice on another.  Why is that concept still so difficult for some to comprehend?

Where is the indignance over drugs for erectile dysfunction?  Shouldn’t men (and their female partners) simply accept and celebrate that it is sometimes not in God’s plan for a man’s body to be able to engage in intercourse?  I think we should immediately withdraw ED drugs from the market and allow men to follow God’s natural plan for their bodies.
