      Morning CG.

I’m still waiting on the first cup of coffee.

      How are you today?

      • CabinGirl
CabinGirl on June 11, 2007 at 6:51 am

Sleepy.  Too much late tv-watching last night.

Coffee sounds good, although I think i’m going to try to sneak in another half-hour of sleep before I have any.

Have I mentioned how much I’m looking forward to school being over so I get a break from CBtY’s Monday Morning Blues?

        • Family Man
Family Man on June 11, 2007 at 6:57 am

Yes I think you have mentioned that. 🙂

I’ve never seen the “The Sopranos” but I see on the news the ending was a disappointment.

I loved it.  Picture the Roman Collosseum with half the audience thirsting for blood and the other half for peace.  TVland holds us spellbound.

When we were younger and less sophisticated, happily ever after was a satisfactory ending.  For some reason, those days are gone. Guess we’re just too bored with life going on and on.

        I think she’s a pouter and a foot-stamper.

I don’t watch the Sopranos either – waaaay too violent for me – what happened?

        • AndiF
AndiF on June 11, 2007 at 8:13 am

Not a pouter — way too subtle.

          • Second Nature
Second Nature on June 11, 2007 at 8:18 am

Good morning, traveler.  So you’re not denying the foot stamper.

Hope you’re at least in a pretty spot where you can take a walk when you’re not in the BCROD.

          • AndiF
AndiF on June 11, 2007 at 8:24 am

Well I’m in a spot with sidewalks so I can take a walk but that’s about it. There’s an exercise room with a treadmill so I can put out an effort without going anywhere but that’s too much like what I’ll be doing all day so it doesn’t have much appeal either (see, not a pouter, definitely a crybaby).

          • Second Nature
Second Nature on June 11, 2007 at 8:29 am

Yes, the treadmill as metaphor for life.  I’m familiar with this concept. 🙂

I actually prefer the hamster wheel.

All 3 of the boys (ok, the oldest is 25 – not a boy) played basketball together last night and I enjoyed the hell out of watching them tease and smack each other around.  Next time I have to remember my camera.

          • Family Man
Family Man on June 11, 2007 at 8:46 am

Well I got off the treadmill, and now I guess I’m on a trampoline.  It does have its ups and downs.

          • Second Nature
Second Nature on June 11, 2007 at 8:49 am

You’d bounce much higher if you could get all your family members off the trampoline with you.  They’re stealing your bounce.

          • Family Man
Family Man on June 11, 2007 at 8:51 am

Good point.  When the boys are playing basketball you don’t need a camera, you need a movie camera.

Family Man on June 11, 2007 at 8:45 am

I doubt that highly.  Ants don’t come at you.  If anything they’re trying to get away from you.  Snakes on the other hand…….

          • keres
keres on June 11, 2007 at 6:57 pm

What’s with the ants and snakes?  And why is Andi going into conference with them?  I’m soooo confused.

          • Family Man
Family Man on June 11, 2007 at 7:15 pm

            Hi keres.

Andi leaves me confused most of the time.  I’ve got the problems with snakes and ants, and Andi has the beige conference room hell starting today.

          • keres
keres on June 11, 2007 at 7:29 pm

            OK.  That’s lots clearer.

For ants, the only thing that really works is to get a bait that the workers will carry back to the queen and thus kill the whole hill.  Boric acid (available as a powder at most welding supply stores) mixed with peanut butter will atract both sugar and fat feeding species.

As for snakes, you have to get rid of whatever they are feeding on.  If it’s mice, break out the mice traps.  If it’s grasshoppers, then go to the garden center and get the stuff that infects grasshoppers (can’t remember what it’s called, but the nursery types should know). If it’s frogs, then you are out of luck – I don’t give out frog killing advice.

          • Family Man
Family Man on June 11, 2007 at 7:34 pm

I’m going to do that boric acid thing.  Mice we don’t have any – Cat inside and Tom outside.

Snakes are fine as long as they don’t come up to the house.

And I would never ever hurt a frog. 🙂

          • keres
keres on June 11, 2007 at 7:58 pm

Cats keeping down the mice population is the best solution I’ve ever found to keeping snakes away from the house.  Sounds like you have that one covered.

Boric acid is relatively harmless to larger critters (you’d have to ingest lots of it) but fairly deadly to insects.  You can use it as a deterant by sprinkling it around the areas you think the ants are getting in.  Persistant ants usually just find another route, thus my rather “nuclear” recomendation above.

We had the last game on Saturday; this week is the end-of-season BBQ at the coach’s house.  And Monday is the last day of school!

I fly home Friday mornning — so at least there’s a reason to be up early.

BBQ sounds like fun (well ,not to me but I’m sure it does to the kids on the team).

The BBQ should be okay.  They give the coach a gift, some of the players get recognized, and CBtY was the biggest fundraiser for their team, so he gets a little something on Saturday too.  I think he also led the league in HBPs…

    Good morning, ask and FM.

3 more days…next I’ll have to break it down into hours.

      Good morning CG.

When you get down to seconds, then you’ll be really counting. 🙂

      How are you today?

Not bad.  Have a new set of projects to work on today, spending some time at the library this afternoon, finding a new home for my 2 older chickens, etc.

How about you? Having fun with the nephew?

Still dark here in Sunnyvale but that’s okay because there’s nothing to see.

Nothing to see in Sunnyvale?  Do they at least have some decent food in that area?

The “downtown” has a two-block area that is literally wall-to-wall restaurants. And if we want to go upscale and spend some “real money” we can head over to Palo Alto.

Usually when I was on trips for business, I would splurge one night, and the rest of the time spend as little as possible.

I’m not big on fancy places where service is slow and dinner takes forever when all I want is to get some decent food and then crash. I’m with someone on this trip but he’s pretty much like me and there’s a reasonable  choice of pleasant, good restaurants.

At least you got a break on your co-worker.  I can understand the wanting to get back to the room and crashing.  Well obviously I can understand crashing anywhere/anytime. 🙂

Good morning all.  Another overcast day here in paradise.  Enough intermittent rain already.  NY is the new Florida.

      Good morning Boran.

Paradise with cloud cover huh.  Sounds a little bit un-paradisey. 🙂

I can send you some if you like.  Rain that is.  😉

Hi Andi.  At least you’ve got your a/c in conference room hell.  😉

Yes and I wouldn’t know if it was raining anyway.

But the lack of rain I am really bemoaning is at home. We’ve been without rain for about 6 weeks.

Wow, I’m hoping that’s only cyclical.

It’s definitely unusual — this april-may-june are normally the wettest months. A lot of farmers are going to be in trouble if something doesn’t happen soon.

And this is one of the few times in all the years we’ve lived in the woods that I’m worried about fires.

The great Nephew is up and hungry.  Gotta go.

Everyone have a good day in the pond.
