Here is a great article James Boyce wrote.
I don’t want to detract from his writing, so I will just post the link for you all to read it’s entirity.
It is coming down to the wire. And as I wrote on the article.
“Al, we know we need you. Now you know, we know and now it is time to help us forward.
Please Al, feel that passion you have tucked deep inside. Set it free and help lead us.”
Time for a COOL change,
Gore

story,
“The time has come to have a serious discussion about Al Gore and about whether or not you want him to run for president because let’s be honest with each other, Al Gore doesn’t have to run.
He can go forward and fight his fights from the outside in. He can run a different campaign and keep winning it. If you were Al Gore, you probably wouldn’t run either. Do I think he would lose a lot of momentum if and when it’s clear he isn’t running for President? Hell yes. But he would still have plenty to do.
But I’m here to say: we need Al Gore.”

“I will NEVER run for president again.”
That convinced me. I think he means it.
Because he NEVER said that.
“I don’t have to run a 600 day”…and then again “500 day campaign.
“I’m not looking for a specific sign to know”
and
He said. He did say “I would love to be President 6/07”
and in his book he says,
Al writes: “It is my greatest hope that those who read this book will choose to become part of a new movement to rekindle the true spirit of America.”
We are letting Al Gore know we know we need and want him.
Latest New Hampshire poll has Al winning 6 pts above Hillary, and all the rest way behind.
This is our Revolution. We are choosing our destiny. And Al will hear us and enter.
Time for a COOL change,
Gore

Working for me. Actually, I hope that I am wrong, and in that direction, I can’t find a source for the quote. But here is a CNN story dated July 6, 3007:
Gore: I’ve ‘fallen out of love with politics’
NEW YORK (CNN) — Former Vice President Al Gore said he has “fallen out of love with politics” and has no intentions of running for office again.
When asked why he wouldn’t run for president again — when presumably a president could shape an agenda to fight global warming — Gore said those in power must have the support of the people to make it work.
“The key players are the American people,” he said. “When the American people have the awareness of what this means for their children, and for their grandchildren, that all of civilization is at risk here, then they will demand that whoever is running for office, whoever is elected to serve, will have to respond to this.”
Despite Gore’s stance, many grassroots movements, with Web sites such as AlGore.org and draftgore2008.org, are trying persuade him to run.
“Americans from every corner of our nation are calling on you,” reads a petition on Draftgore.com. “Please listen to our plea and run for the Democratic nomination for the presidency of the United States in 2008.” The petition has has nearly 100,000 signatures.
“I’ve kind of fallen out of love with politics. …Whatever experience and talents I’ve gained over the years — I think it may well be that the highest and best use of that is to try to bring enough awareness of the solutions to the climate crisis and enough of a sense of urgency that we come together across party lines on behalf of our children,” Gore said.
AM I WRONG? Hope so.
too.
Thank you.
However you were still very wrong in your statement claiming Al Gore said he would never run for pres again. And it isn’t in your found quotes, because it wasn’t said and you won’t find it anywhere, because he never said that. And that is the point. That is why he said he won’t say definitively he won’t run, becuase he may and he doesn’t need to run a 6 or 500 day campaign.
And of course he had to try to stop the questions of running because he was promoting a large NON POLITICAL GLOBAL WARMING CAMPAIGN and concert.
So you too have much to celebrate. If we build it, he will come. Please read James Boyce’s article above and join the growing effort.
http://www.algore.org/node/7
See you at the celebrations!
And you may well be right.
But if he doesn’t, this life-long voter is going third party or may be discouraged from voting altogether. I can’t take any more “lesser of two evils” B.S. anymore!
I’m right there with you. We won’t accomplish what we need to with any of these Corporatist candidates.
Run, Al, Run
Al is my man. And just to remind, he was elected President in 2000 but the Supremes (they drove the get-away car) helped the BUSHCHENEY criminals do the heist.
Here’s the winning ticket in ’08
Gore-Obama. If not, I go independent.
how about GORE/FEINGOLD…that’s the ticket!

Yep. Dada, I’ll buy that one.
that happened to his vaunted Live Earth Concert here in the U.S.
The ratings were dismal.
He will be “elitisted” out of winning.
Elitisting.
The Swift Boating of 2008.
Watch.
He is PRIME MEAT for such an attack.
First of all…he has NO common touch. None. Even fake working man Edwards trumps him. Al Gore makes Hillary Clinton look like Ms. Midwestern State Fair. And Hillary always has Glad Hand Bill upon whom to fall back.
And Obama as well is she is as politically savvy as I think she is.
Secondly…I can hear it now.
From Dems AND Ratpubs.
Plus…the whole “Green” thing can be VERY easily transformed into “Tree hugger!!! Whale lover!!!” to an extraordinary percentage of the sleeple voters of America.
Fox News would do a job on him…!!!
Believe it.
And third…he has no fire in the belly for politics. Never did, never will.
Face it.
He’s not running.
And if he does…he’ll lose. He is the ONLY Dem candidate that Giuliani could beat. Provided the Rats take the low road and actually pull Rudy the Rat out of his rodent hole. Which on the evidence of the past 8 years is exactly what they are going to do.
Gore?
FUGGEDABOUDIT!!!
And…
Grow up.
AG
as Live Earth.
What, do you use AEI/Newsbusters (Right Wing propaganda) as you reference? LOL
Live Earth broke records EVERY WHERE.
…a concert held round the world, picked up on networks and stations and radio around the world.
…and on MSN, WOOOT!
“MORE THAN 10 MILLION WATCH LIVE EARTH ON MSN
A landmark audience of viewers from around the world has united at http://www.LiveEarth.MSN.com to experience the excitement of today’s Live Earth concerts and to confront the threat of global warming. As of 3:00 p.m. EDT, MSN had received a total of more than 10 million video streams and has the most simultaneous viewers of any online concert ever.
Viewers worldwide have already watched the Live Earth concerts via the live webcast, and the LiveEarth.MSN.com audience will only increase. On-demand footage of all performances, along with artist interviews, backstage footage, easy searching capabilities for specific songs, artists and more, will be available from all eight official concerts at LiveEarth.MSN.com for the next several weeks.
“History is being made today,” said Joanne Bradford, corporate vice president and chief media officer of MSN. “Millions of people around the world have joined together to fight the climate crisis. The over 10 million streams MSN has delivered so far today represent a milestone in live Internet broadcasting. We expect to see an even greater number of streams after the concerts are over as people return to watch their favorite performances or enjoy them for the first time if they missed the concerts live.””
Yep. An incredible undertaking and incredible results that matched it.
In only a few hours of coverage on NBC, they had 2.75 Million.
Bravo had 750,000
Sundance isn’t part of Neilsen and yet they were the only station that carried the concert for full 22 hours.
Plus the 10 Milliono live streaming.
And the concert viewings that have and continue taking place on livearth.org, where you can still catch the shows.
http://liveearth.msn.com/concerts/brazil
“Viewers from around the world…”
Not in the U.S.
Which is where the votes will be. Or will not be.
Now…I tuned in a few times.
The concert was L-A-M-E lame as far as I am concerned. But then…I’m a culture snob. I like musicians who can play in tune and in time.
It was a typical “celebrity” concert.
And Gore is a typical celebrity candidate.
But besides all of that…it did not hit in the middle of the demographic that will be voting.
Why?
You would think that it was aimed right down the middle of America’s lack of good taste.
But…it did not hit.
Why?
Because those people think that Gore is an asshole.
A loser.
By definition.
Someone who lost.
Someone who does not get a second act in America.
Where there ARE no second acts.
So who is REALLY supporting him?
You are, m’dear.
You and a bunbch of European Greens.
Noble.
But it will not sell in Peoria.
Sorry, Linda in Santa Fe or wherever.
Dream on.
AG
Snob this.
It grew.
Now a stand-alone post.
Al Gore, Bad Music, Live Earth and Societal Rot. Nice. Snob THIS, Booman.
I am tired ‘a this shit, Booman.
I really am.
AG
Oh my.
Open you mind, it will set you free.
The concerts weren’t a campaign event. They were to get awareness to rally people to take steps and demand changes be made to fight global warming.
Your nastiness doesn’t change the facts. Mr. Gore has the highest favorable rating of ALL the Candidates and pretty much everyone else.
And the voters were asked a correct question in the Suffolk University Poll taken in New Hampshire this month. If Al Gore is running, who would you vote for and he STILL knocked the socks off everyone, without being a declared candidate 33 percent, topping Hillary at her 26 and all the others left in the dust.
To use right wing talking points have become laughable. I’m surprised you didn’t dip down to “Ozone Man”….Oooooh. LOL
Go get nasty and crank off at someone who doesn’t have a clear record of his vision and policy.
not 33.
#1-Believe NO polls. They are all skewed in favor of whomever really funds them.
#2-The “favorable ratings” that Mr. Gore gets are from the same sleeple who voted for Bush. And/or Small K kerry.
Two sides of the same turd.
#3-He’s not running.
Which in the voters’ peabrains means that he is better than those who ARE running. Something that is actually a semi-valid idea.
If he ran? (Which I maintain that he will not, of course. Why waste that massive 32% favorabliness rating on something as stressful as the Presdency?) If he actually entered into the race then his ratings would drop. Kicked in the privates often enough by politicians, even the dimmest of sleepers gets a glimmer of the truth of this matter.
#4-I am not using right-wing talking points. I simply think that Gore is full of shit.
Listen up, Linda.
From the Seattle Times.
(Google “Live Earth” + ratings for more. MUCH more.)
Live Earth may have been the largest global entertainment event in history, as its organizers claim, but back on planet America it couldn’t even beat ABC repeats of the kids’ animated movie “Monsters, Inc.” and “America’s Funniest Home Videos” in the Nielsen ratings.
NBC’s three-hour broadcast of concert highlights Saturday night, featuring musical acts such as the Police, Bon Jovi and Kanye West, averaged 2.7 million viewers — a figure that put it in last place among the four major networks.
Still, organizers put the best spin on the 24-hour musical event staged to raise awareness of global environmental issues. MSN said it set a new record for most viewers of an online concert: 8 million.
“Live Earth is officially the largest global entertainment event in history,” said former Vice President Al Gore, one of the organizers. “And the numbers are still coming in.”
And here is Gore, still spinning.
A true Corporate American. V.2
And do not give me the old “The web numbers were huge” thing, either.
Dean’s web numbers were “huge”, too.
The people who watch “Monsters, Inc.” and “America’s Funniest Home Videos”?
THEY are the ones who must be captured by whoever will win this thing.
And they were not.
Now if he had promised Janet Jackson and her little tittie show?
Or maybe Bill Clinton flirting with all of the lonely wives out there?
Maybe.
But “The Police”?
Featuring Sting and his one good note?
“ROX-anne…”
Give me a break.
’80s + ’90s music fans are not going to elect the next Pres, m’dear.
People who watch “Entertainment Tonite” and “America’s Funniest Home Videos” are going to be the deciding factor.
Bet on it.
Just as it has always been.
And they are mad at Bush.
He didn’t win.
He didn’t deliver.
Plus they are disgusted by the rampant theft and the truly rotten sexuality of the Ratpubs.
They were better off with Bill.
Who delivered once too often. But at least he didn’t have to pay for it.
So they are going to vote Dem this time.
So…who is going to be the Dem nominee?”
“WHOEVER WE TELL YOU IT’S GOING TO BE”, of course
Hillary unless she really fucks up.
And if that happens…some other Dem who has made the right promises and doesn’t seem likely to doublecross the bosses.
Bet on it.
I am.
Gore?
Nope.
Bet on that one, too.
No second acts in Omertican politics.
Ever.
Retired pols just become pitchmen for infomercials.
Like Live Earth.
OxyClean.
On a GRAND scale.
Bet on it.
Nitey nite…

I think you’re being snotty about this whole Gore thing. I’m no fan of Al Gore. But I think you’re using an obnoxious argument to make your point.
As I noted before, even the masters resort to crowd-pleasing, and it’s all part of the pop.
And saying Mick Jagger has no talent is just a bizarre delusional position.
And Mick Taylor is one of the best electric guitarists of all time.
Why is saying something like that about Jagger “delusional”?
Because a lot of people think that he does have talent?
Because YOU do?
A lot of people think that George Bush is a good President.
All Jagger can do is dance a little and pose.
That’s it, Booman.
Take away his money and hype and he’d be just another sleazy bar band frontman.
Mick Taylor!!!???
He is certainly better than that old faker with the Stones.
Richards
But compared to real guitar players?
Wes Montgomery?
Jim Hall?
Charlie Christian?
200 other great jazz players?
He’s just loud.
Give him a set of moderately complex harmonic changes or ask him to play with a drummer on the level of Elvin Jones or Tony Williams and he would be done. Fried. Toast. In about 15 seconds. If he couldn’t simply drown thge rest of the band out, of course.
Loud and lotsa hair.
You done been played, Booman.
Since high school.
Just like the rest of white America.
Given a seriously devolved culture and Rolling Stoned into believing that it is the hottest thing ever.
Well…it ain’t.
Not even close.
Youy know that old saw, you are what you eat?
Well…you eat what you are, too.
And you are eaten BY it as well.
Much of the rest of the world is playing chess with its popular culture.
We are playing tiddlywinks.
Bet on it.
And THAT…not outr military, not our politicians, not anything but that…is what is going to bring us down.
When the culture was strong…the cultures, because we were a multiculture that interfaced off of its various parts… the U.S. was strong.
Now.
A paper tiger, blowin’ in the wind.
The first REAL wind will tear it a new asshole.
Watch.
Mick Taylor!!!
Wah-wah pedals instead of harmony. Volume instead of melody. Clomp clomp clomp instread of polyrhythyms.
Devolved like a MOTHERFUCKER.
Bet on it.

Hey, I have a totally different opinion of the Rolling Stones. Personally, I love their music and love their songs. I would never suggest that they were technically great, although I think they have to rank as one of the strongest studio bands of all time, ranking with Pink Floyd and The Beatles.
I have always loved the Stones’ two-guitar style, which produces a great sound, although it is often hard to tell whether it is Jones/Taylor/Wood or Richards that is playing lead at any given time.
But it’s not so much the music as it is the songs.
Songs like: Waiting on a Friend, Beast of Burden, No Expectations, Sway, Moonlight Mile, Dead Flowers, Torn & Frayed, Angie, Till the Next Goodbye, If You Really Want to Be My Friend, Before They Make Me Run, Worried About You, Tops, & No Use in Crying.
These are fantastic songs. And it took tremendous talent to create them.
And Taylor plays on most of them.
you.
That usually results in non stop attacks as a means of defense which is all you were doing.
Throwing out name calling and attacks aimlessly. To know the enemy is to be prepared.
And if your point is that the right wing will attack a good progressive for the people, you are correct, but surely you’re not telling me you fall for that, do you?
Besides, I think you should be taking some of your own advice. Don’t be so childish.
It is “childish” to think that the power structure here in the U.S. will allow Gore to win.
They will not.
The fix is already in.
He is just a sop to keep the weak, self-referential “The world should revolve around US!!!” left occupied in vain hopes while the real business takes place where it always takes place, in the boardrooms of the rich and powerful.
I personally think that he would make a lousy President. I do not like his act now; I did not like his OR wife’s act with the recording censorship thing, and I did not like it when he lost to the single least attractive Presidential candidate that any party has run since…ohhhhh, since the little man in the tank, Dukakis. Admittedly he lost by way of vote fraud and Little Blue Dress stains on his predecessor’s reputation, but he should have beaten that asshole so soundly that they would have had to steal every vote in every state in the union in order to win.
But even if I thought that he was as heavy as Howard Dean…I would STILL say the same thing.
He’s not running, and he won’t win.
Sorta like Sherman.
Only coy about it. (There’s more fame in it that way. The only real power that he will EVER garner.)
Take care…

“Gore honoured by MPs and peers
Published: Thu, 19 Jul 2007 00:01:00 GMT+01
MPs and peers have named former US vice president Al Gore as their international statesman of the year.
Gore was given the honour at the annual House Magazine awards in Westminster last night, the only political awards decided by parliamentarians.
The tribute was in recognition of his post-White House work on the environment through his film ‘An inconvenient truth’ and being the driving force behind the recent Live Earth concerts.

Poll: Idahoans Deem Mitt Fit and Want More Gore
By J. Gelband, 7-18-07
This just in: Results from a poll of Idahoans indicate that the state’s voters prefer former Vice President Al Gore and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney for president in 2008.
Of the Idaho Democrats polled, 31 percent indicated they would vote for Gore. Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama came in second and third, respectively, with 23 percent and 22 percent.
Senator John Edwards received 10 percent, “another candidate” got 6 percent and 8 percent were still undecided.

“There’s an African proverb that says, ‘If you want to go quick, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.’ We have to go far quickly,” former Vice President Al Gore told a packed, rapt house at the Benedict Music Tent Wednesday.
