it’s a sunny, warm, winter day here in the southern hemisphere and i’m about to bicycle to the park… last month here in buenos aires, the first snowfall in 90 years was recorded… sadly, i didn’t get to witness it because i will still in the u.s. at the time…
The main thing that bothers me is how it stresses the woods — a lot of trees have dead or dying leaves, most of the rest are slightly shriveled at the edges. (And on a self-centered note, it means that fall won’t be very pretty.)
I’m staying indoors until after the sun sets. I hear AL has been setting records every day. Yuck. We’ve been in the high nineties to low 100s for the past two weeks and it’s definitely the hottest summer since I’ve been here. It may not be a good idea to wish for, but I’m hoping Tropical Storm Dean turns into something for the Atlantic coast.
I said it a lot earlier the only thing that will help out the Southeast is for some tropical storms to come in. I hope we get the rain, but no people hurt or damages.
Good morning, SN. Yes, out west to Utah and Arizona. I’m hoping to meet up with Manny at some point. My son won’t start school until early September. It’s always strange to see kids in school in mid August when it’s so hot.
I’m be more jealous if it weren’t so hot out there. Have lots of fun hikes and take lots of great pictures.
If you get to meet Manny, I highly recommend meeting him at his favorite restaurant — it was fantastic and he was absolutely charming (no surprise there).
Our favorite Tucson hike — the Hugh Norris Trail to Wasson Peak. This might be a bit tough for your son but we did run into a couple with some young kids on it. And even if you don’t make it all the way to the summit, it’s a great hike.
My ears are ringing! b2 and I are going to have to figure out how to substitute the hug queue that’s building up, I vote something in the Alcohol food group. 🙂
Nope – Hopey has fleas and almost shook me out of bed scratching. And then I noticed how much the mr. sounds like he’s drowning in pea soup when he snores. Can i have my own room now?
Good morning, Andi. Still dark here but I imagine it’s lightening up in your neck of the woods.
I use Frontline too but ran out and since she almost never goes outside anymore because of the heat I thought I could go without it for awhile. Mistaaake.
I took her out at 4 to pee and it was hot and muggy. I don’t think it went below 80 overnight.
I consider cleaning the house at any time of day to be weird but that is a bit extreme. Maybe you’re trying to get tired enough to take a nap.
Or you want to make sure you’re exhausted when Ben gets home so you can be all calm and blase like you barely noticed he was gone, instead of attacking him like a rabid monkey. 😉
Actually, I could go for a bit of sun right now, but even though we’ve had a good month for rain thus far, we’re still well below average – so I’ll cope with being stuck in the house with the dirty laundry piling up.
It’s Friday evening here, about dinner time, although dinner has yet to be decided upon.
Luna is a big lump in the middle of the floor and Albert is seeing what trouble he can get into. This weekend is supposed to have reasonably fair weather so we’ve planned to start working on the garden beds.
Imogen’s mother, an avid gardener, is coming by tomorrow afternoon to help (and to spend the night so that we can visit a bit).
That sounds like a really nice way to spend the weekend. Jim’s dad was a great (vegetable) gardener and I suspect that if Jim ever retires that will be one of the first things he takes up.
Good morning/evening, Andi and keres!
Relaxing weekend, indeed. Driving up to Berkshires this morning (if curly wakes up soon) – it got too late last night to get going.
That is magical, Andi. Can you brew me some coffee and clean up the I-ate-too-fast cat barf from the floor now?
We officially moved from moderate drought to severe drought this week. I haven’t seen green grass since May or June other than where the rich folks live, that is. Somehow water restrictions just don’t pertain to them.
Dammit, I had a feeling that was the way it worked.
Actually, I have been saving up a lot of man-type jobs for the past few days that have fallen by the wayside with both Colin and Ben gone. It will be a fabulous homecoming!
I think that’s already been proven false, as in: a watched pot never boils. Or is it, a watched pot gathers no moss? A watched pot is worth two in the bush?
woo hoo! Enjoy the refreshing coolness while it lasts. I’ve heard a rumor that sometime in the next week it might go below ninety for the first time in a month. One can but dream of days like that…
Today? Re-working a paper on one of my least favorite products (a continuous regimen contraceptive), and taking a much-needed walk with the dogs.
Looking forward to a bourbon-marinated bison London broil on the grill later. 🙂
What are you doing ooutdoors today? CBtY needs to cut the lawn, and we need to mulch our recently planted perennial shade garden this weekend (pictures to follow).
Although it has cooled off considerable down to the high 90s, I still plan to stay inside. The heat has done me a favor and kept the lawn from growing too much.
The bourbon-marinated bison London broil sound really good. Care packages please. 🙂
Good morning, Andi!
Glad you’re getting a break from the worst of the heat.
We have 52 this morning (which feels like 45) – showers and heavy wind gusts all night – it almost feels like fall. Forecast is a sunny 65!
LOL Still looking for work and now looking for a new place for me and the diva dogs to move to. Things have been really hectic so I have not been around much.
(sorry it took so long, I got distracted in the middle of putting this up-)
I can smell Giddy from here. Makes me want to go sit in a baby pool.
Still hot down your way?
It’s pretty nice here today. I’m debating a bike ride to pick up my veggies at the farm today (especially if I can talk CBtY into it).

Hiya prof. It’s nice to see another southern hemisphere person here in the lounge.
We woke up to a hard frost, and we’ll have to cut firewood today or else freeze tonight. It’s currently a chilly 12C/54F inside the house.
Luna is sooooo envious of Giddy right now.
Hope you had a great bike ride and that you’ll come by again.
Good morning, Andi!
That spider was busy!
When I initially saw just the top of the image, I briefly thought you were reporting rain. Alas.
I see you’re up early too.
I thought the web looked like rain, too — a sort of golden shower like something out of mythology.
We did have rain yesterday — for all of five minutes. 🙁
Hope you get some more soon.
Drought can really get on your nerves.
The main thing that bothers me is how it stresses the woods — a lot of trees have dead or dying leaves, most of the rest are slightly shriveled at the edges. (And on a self-centered note, it means that fall won’t be very pretty.)
Good morning Andi and ask.
Need coffee this morning.
So what’s a morning like when you don’t need coffee? I ask out of intellectual curiosity since I don’t have morning where I don’t need coffee.
I did stop drinking coffee at one time, but I forgot what it was like. I think without coffee I would be taking more naps. 🙂
Well, hie you to the kitchen and get that coffee and I will hie me to the woods before it gets hot.
See ya.
Don’t get too hot today.
Good morning, FM!
I need to report that I managed to insert a 1-hr nap this morning.
A one hour nap! I’m very proud of you. Now go forth and spread the slackerly words of napdom. 🙂
Good morning all. It looks to be a somewhat more comfortable day here. Off to vacation soon.
Morning Boran.
Ya just gotta rub it in don’t you. 🙂
Hope we see a lot of pictures from the upcoming vacation.
Sorry!
Ooh, cool! I forgot where you guys are going – somewhere out west? Your boy must not start school as early as they do down here. Yay for him!
Morning SN.
How’s the heat treating you?
I’m staying indoors until after the sun sets. I hear AL has been setting records every day. Yuck. We’ve been in the high nineties to low 100s for the past two weeks and it’s definitely the hottest summer since I’ve been here. How soon till Nature Boy comes home?
Hey Andi – he gets home late on Saturday night. Until then it’s just me and the Mr. at home since the other boy went back to college. Weird.
So it’s a mini-practice session in being an empty-nester, eh? I’m betting I can guess how much you like it — not.
Oh Andi, you know me so well. I’ve been finding excuses to get out of the house….errands that must be run, etc.
Surely it’s time for extending shopping trip for used books. I can spend hours doing that.
Except I have to go spend hours on work. 🙁
Or checking out kitchen toys at places like Crate and Barrel or Fante’s. I can really while away the hours doing that. 😉
That sounds so fun! I don’t suppose you could give Manny a hug for me….a manly hug of course?
I’m be more jealous if it weren’t so hot out there. Have lots of fun hikes and take lots of great pictures.
If you get to meet Manny, I highly recommend meeting him at his favorite restaurant — it was fantastic and he was absolutely charming (no surprise there).
Our favorite Tucson hike — the Hugh Norris Trail to Wasson Peak. This might be a bit tough for your son but we did run into a couple with some young kids on it. And even if you don’t make it all the way to the summit, it’s a great hike.
Have fun! (and add a hug for Manny from me too.)
My ears are ringing! b2 and I are going to have to figure out how to substitute the hug queue that’s building up, I vote something in the Alcohol food group. 🙂
Sorry for the delay, but the Welcome Wagon is here.
Ah be still my heart.
(but I’ll still hate summer)
I’ve been up since 4:15. Now who’s the slacker?
You scared me death — I wasn’t expecting anyone to be here yet.
Too hot to sleep?
Nope – Hopey has fleas and almost shook me out of bed scratching. And then I noticed how much the mr. sounds like he’s drowning in pea soup when he snores. Can i have my own room now?
Good morning, Andi. Still dark here but I imagine it’s lightening up in your neck of the woods.
It’s still dark here (damned daylight savings time).
We put the flea and tick drops called Frontline Plus on our dogs — it works great.
You can start buying copies of A Room of One’s Own and leave them at strategic places around the house.
I use Frontline too but ran out and since she almost never goes outside anymore because of the heat I thought I could go without it for awhile. Mistaaake.
I took her out at 4 to pee and it was hot and muggy. I don’t think it went below 80 overnight.
Yeah, it’s awful here too — though currently we are all the way down to 77. Have I mentioned that I hate summer?
Supposed to be under 90 on Sunday…looking forward to that, it’s been weeks.
The weirdest thing is happening to me…I’m cleaning the house like a madwoman and it’s only 6 AM! OMG, what’s happening to me?!
I’m just hoping he says more than “it was okay” when I ask him about it. He’s a man of few words.
I hope he put your old camera to good use and you post some great pictures.
Good morning, ladies!
Warm and muggy morning here as well. curly and I will escape to the Berkshires tonight for a long weekend.
Hope you have lovely weather and that the woods there look a lot less bedraggled than ours.
Boy that sounds nice. Hope it’s nice and cool.
Here’s the 5-day forecast.
Barely low 70s daytime, 40s at night – better bring pj’s.
Good morning Andi, SN and ask.
Hope I haven’t missed everybody.
You caught me on my way out the door.
See ya.
Enjoy the heat today.
Good morning, FM!
I need an early start today, see you later.
Enjoy the long weekend and good weather.
It’s raining rain, Halleluiah it’s raining rain, ra-a-ain . . .
Actually, I could go for a bit of sun right now, but even though we’ve had a good month for rain thus far, we’re still well below average – so I’ll cope with being stuck in the house with the dirty laundry piling up.
I’m jealous — this is the driest summer I can remember. I’d gladly give up my weekend activities for a good soaking rain.
Hope everybody has a relaxing weekend ahead.
Nice photo.
It’s Friday evening here, about dinner time, although dinner has yet to be decided upon.

Relaxing weekend, indeed. Driving up to Berkshires this morning (if curly wakes up soon) – it got too late last night to get going.
Did that work — I tried to direct it right toward her ear. 🙂
It sure did!
She came staggering into the living room a few minutes ago. Coffee brewing.
Once again, the intertubes save the day (or, at least, get it going).
Have a great time.
I don’t do anything — I just will someone else to do something. So that would be you making the coffee and cleaning the cat barf at my instigation.
Restrictions are for the lumpenproletariat, dontcha know.
So, got the place all cleaned up for B-Day tomorrow?
Dammit, I had a feeling that was the way it worked.
Actually, I have been saving up a lot of man-type jobs for the past few days that have fallen by the wayside with both Colin and Ben gone. It will be a fabulous homecoming!
What an excellent way to let him know he’s been missed. 😉
Giddy is letting me know that she is missing me being outside. See ya later.
lumpenproletariat
You know it’s rare to see that word twice in one day, but I can honestly say that I have (I’ve been re-reading The Fatal Shore).
I’m glad I could help set a Tasmanian record (even if it is a very local record) for lumpenproletariat occurrences.
Gorgeous photo, Andi.
I put in a special order with the weather gods for those nifty clouds. 🙂
Good morning everyone.
Does staring at a coffee pot make it boil faster?
We’ll have to perform several double blind tests and get back to you. Of course, we don’t have a coffee pot, so it may be awhile.
No problem, I think chewing a spoon of coffee grounds every few minutes should do the trick. 🙂
I think that’s already been proven false, as in: a watched pot never boils. Or is it, a watched pot gathers no moss? A watched pot is worth two in the bush?
I need coffee.
Morning SN.
You know, once you get past the first spoon of grinds it isn’t so bad. You could through in some half and half with it and who knows. 🙂
Have you ever tried those chocolate-covered espresso beans? It’s like chewing your morning coffee. Yum.
Morning, FM. What’s the plan for today?
Can’t say I’ve even heard of those beans.
I might try and get some stuff done outside today, since the high is supposed to be only 99. 99 and it’s beginning to feel like fall. 🙂
What plans do you have today?
woo hoo! Enjoy the refreshing coolness while it lasts. I’ve heard a rumor that sometime in the next week it might go below ninety for the first time in a month. One can but dream of days like that…
I’ve always heard the higher you get the cooler it is. I wonder if that could work for beer. 🙂
Those are yummy. I wish I had some right now…
Morning CG.
Any big plans today?
Today? Re-working a paper on one of my least favorite products (a continuous regimen contraceptive), and taking a much-needed walk with the dogs.
Looking forward to a bourbon-marinated bison London broil on the grill later. 🙂

The bourbon-marinated bison London broil sound really good. Care packages please. 🙂
Gotta get George out and the trash to be picked up. Back in a minute.
Have a good, umm, trash, FM.
Hi Boran.
If I could I would shovel half the stuff we never use out of the house. Hey sounds like a yard sale might be the idea. Nah too much work. 🙂
Have a good one.
And to make it even happier here, today and tomorrow are only going to be in the mid-to-low 80s.
Good morning, Andi!
Glad you’re getting a break from the worst of the heat.
We have 52 this morning (which feels like 45) – showers and heavy wind gusts all night – it almost feels like fall. Forecast is a sunny 65!
I’m really jealous of your rain. Maybe the wind will blow it all the way back here.
It is sad to hear of your continued drought – the weather seems to be going to extremes all over the place.
Yeah, torrential downpours in Texas and no rain in the Midwest.
And also globally…
Well, I’m going to go partake a bit of the local weird weather.
Have a good one.
Good morning Andi and ask. Its deliciously cool out on the porch today.
I am getting so jealous with all this talk of deliciously cool weather. I have never been so ready for fall.
Morning, ID and everyone!
We’re having a weekend of Spetember weather, apparently.
When does the Nature Boy return tonight? Do you have all his favorite food stocked up? 🙂
HI Folks!!! Hope everyone is doing well. Sorry I haven’t been around much but I really do miss you guys and gals!!!!
yeah, what the heck is up with you??? Been wondering how you’re doing.
LOL Still looking for work and now looking for a new place for me and the diva dogs to move to. Things have been really hectic so I have not been around much.
Well, continued thoughts of good luck coming your way. :0)
Thank you!!!! I can use all of them I can get. LOL
I miss you too! How are the Divas?
Be right back.
