Newt Gingrich, like a lot of people, is sick that Congress decided to take a month long vacation while our soldiers hump it in 130 degree weather in Iraq our nation is terrorized by Islamic militants illegal immigrants:
Gingrich said that the “war here at home” against illegal immigrants is “even more deadly than the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
“The federal government’s incompetence, timidity and uncoordinated efforts to identify and deport criminal illegal aliens have had devastating consequences for innocent Americans,” Gingrich said, in a newsletter.
Gingrich said that the “war here at home” against illegal immigrants is “even more deadly than the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
“As an American, I am sickened that the political leadership of America could continue to go on vacation and do nothing,” he said. “Why are the August vacations for the president and the Congress more precious than the lives of young Americans who are being killed because of government incompetence and inaction.”
Gingrich said that President Bush should call Congress back into special session for three days to pass a bill in honor of the slain students.
The measure should order the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security to outsource the development of an identification system to check the legal status of felons and have it up and running by Jan. 1, 2008, he said.
In addition, it should withdraw federal aid from any city, county or state that refuses to participate in checking the legal status of arrested felons, Gingrich said.
Maybe that’s why Philadelphia is just as dangerous as Baghdad.
What a vile creature.
I’m sure he’s salivating at the thought of increased tensions between various minority groups, all the while calling on the newest incarnation of Operation Wetback.
What’s odd is that for all his faults he usually has a pretty keen sense of where the public is on any given issue. I say ‘usually’ because he has made some noted blunders. So, if he is saying this is must be because he is planning on running as the REAL Tancredo. But he better get in soon because Iowa may be coming up sooner than planned.
Run Newt Run!
I like how the newspaper repeated the money line (I thought it was your typo at first). Let’s see it again.
I wouldn’t mind seeing that occur every other paragraph in every newspaper, magazine, and internet story for a few days. That should finish him off once and for all. If not, we’re in even worse trouble than I thought.
I’d say the biggest threat to our country is slack-ass white people who, despite having educational opportunities denied to many domestic minorities and certainly to the impoverished masses of Latin America, just can’t bring themselves to do something more challenging than manual labor and expect the rest of the country to bend over backwards to protect them from their own laziness and stupidity.
Let me put that in short words that the affected class of white trash can easily understand: If your job is taken by an illegal immigrant, it’s because you walked away from opportunity.
Have these white people no shame? Goddamn it, learn to read, learn arithmetic, and spend your money on classes instead of beer, big-screen TVs, and jacked-up trucks. That’s how you move out of the trailer park, not building border fences.
I wish I could do that cute graphic “I think I’m going to be a little bit sick”
Today I registered my daughter for school. A new part of the registration process includes stating birth city and citizenship. Ugh.
Forgive me for being naive, but I don’t think keeping kids out of school is going to help anyone or decrease illegal immigration.
I started a dissenting comment about Gingrich’s “craziness”.
Go here to read it, if you so desire.
No. Gingrich has NOT lost his mind.
Underestimating an opponent like Gingrich.,..who in my estimation is presently running for the Dick Cheney/Bush I-invented office of Vice-President In Charge, by the way… can be suicidal.

AG, I believe you are on to something there.
People dismiss Newt’s “craziness” at their own peril.
Barring another terrorist attack against Americans prior to the 08 election, which would completely relegate anything non-security related to the back burner, the dreaded “brown-skinned menace” is probably the one issue which would both whip up the base and potentially sway the broad fickle “center” of the American public. A “center” which is very malleable. It longs for and seeks a simple and easy to understand frame around which they can wrap their arms and feel good about it. And it is an accepted fact that the American people will respond, first and foremost, to a fear-mongering frame which appeals to the the very base Us-vs-Them mentality.
We are certainly seeing the Republican candidates hunt and peck around for something which catches the eye and ear of middle America, and it always is centered on the fear factor. From Rudy’s Uniform Identification Card and comprehensive foreign visitor database to Mitt’s war on sexual predation, it is all, once again, about the fear of “The Other”.
So Newt’s “craziness” is not craziness at all. If your intent is to align the base while also planting the seed in the minds of middle America that all things they hold near and dear, including the very safety of their children, is in peril if they don’t vote for someone who can hold the evil dark-skinned ones at bay, then you would do exactly as Newt has done. Right now, as the polls show, the broad center of the American public is fed up with the GOP label and is ripe for the picking by the Democratic Party. Unfortunately, the Dems simply seem to be engaging in a self congratulatory circle-jerk, assuming they can simply ride the wave of dissatisfaction with the GOP label to victory in 08, with nary a sweat broken. No effort required on their part.
But Newt knows what it takes to pull this center back over the line and onto the GOP side once again. And while the Dems sit around waiting for their 08 prize to be hand delivered to them, people like Newt are working the angles, playing the odds and planting the seeds of what will likely be the seminal issue in the campaign. And, once again, my bet will be that the Democrats will most certainly be caught flat footed.
So if Democrats wake up on a gloomy, early November day in 2008 and find themselves staring at a television screen showing a President Giuliani or President Romney looking back at them, you can bet that out there, somewhere, Newt Gingrich will be smiling like the cat that ate the canary.
It won’t work. The template is Wallace. If the GOP could convince some southern Democrat to go third-party crazy about job loss, crime, and the sanctity of their daughter’s chastity, then the Great Brown Scare might actually push a law and order Republican like Guiliani into the lead. But it can’t come out of the GOP base. There will be no successful third-party Newt race that gives us Nixon Part Deux. The whole structural strategy is fatally flawed.
I wasn’t implying a potential third party run by Newt. My point was that Newt, having some degree of Mojo within the GOP could be the point man for the GOP to fan the flames of the Great Brown Scare and make it an issue which comes onto the radar screen of middle America. Right now I think most of that middle is worried about the stock market tanking, the housing collapse, job security and the mortgage crisis. But it wouldn’t take much convincing to make them believe that somehow, these areas of concern for them are somehow the fault of “The Other”. And Newt has never hesitated to play that type of card when it is to his party’s advantage.
So, how’s that going to work? Even in Arizona this has proven to be a losing strategy. It won’t help the party in the long-run, as young people refuse to be moved on racial issues and the country gets browner each cycle. And, in the short-term it will do nothing but splinter the Republican Party between its nativist wing and its business wing, without any real potential to win them seats or the White House.
I agree that as a long term strategy it will have progressively diminishing returns for the GOP. The increasing ineffectiveness of the race card with young people and the increasing diversity nationwide are things that makes me hopeful for the future.
And, yes, there is what appears to be an inherent conflict within the GOP between the nativist wing and the business wing. The nativists want to protect the dominant white-male hierarchy, but the business wing needs that cheap, non-white labor.
The business/corporate wing of the GOP will almost certainly always vote with the Republican candidate. And it is not beyond reason to see a strong pro-corporate Republican candidate (is there any other kind???) taking a hard line anti-Brown Skin stance in the campaign when it comes to appealing to the nativist wing of the party. Hell, they are posturing for that high ground as we speak. The corporate world knows that the Republicans are never going to rock the boat when it comes to their world. So, from the corporate viewpoint, let the candidate bloviate all they want to the nativists. The corporate cats know that in the end, their world will always be taken care of in a Republican administration. Let the candidate talk about building fences, putting up cameras, rounding up Mexicans. If that is what is necessary in order to get middle America to pull that lever next to their name on election day, then that’s what you do. It is really all just part of the the larger effort to get that blessed 50% + 1 on election day. After that, they really don’t give a damn. They’re only worried about holding onto power. To them, how they do it is just a question of which finding which tactics work for them. Prevarication is the first word in the Republican dictionary.
The current construct they have is just a house of cards that is destined to fall. But some variation of the Rovian model they have clung to for so long might just get one more go round in this election cycle.

Perhaps thiis is, at least partly, about more corporate profits.
This is nothing new for Newt.
Remember 1994? When Susan Smith drove the car with her kids in it into a lake and the kids drowned?
According to Newtster, it was the fault of the Democrat-controlled Congress.
Newt’s always been a few chicken tenders short of a happy meal.
this is news? he lost his mind many moons ago.
