Is this the only area where Republicans learn from their mistakes?
Unlike House Republican leaders last year during the Mark Foley sex-related scandal, their Senate counterparts this week showed that they know exactly when to fold their cards in such matters: immediately, or sooner, if possible.
GOP colleagues publicly isolated Idaho Sen. Larry Craig within hours after news surfaced on Monday that he had pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in a restroom at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport. And yesterday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky stripped Craig of his committee assignments.
This is all happening with lightning speed compared with the foot-dragging by former House Speaker Dennis Hastert of Illinois last year over revelations about former Florida Rep. Foley’s improper approaches to House pages. McConnell clearly gets the lesson that Hastert’s bumbling response hurt Republicans at the ballot box more than the details of Foley’s behavior.
Too bad they keep foot-dragging on the war, global warming, stem-cell research…
It’s the only area in which Republicans learn from their mistakes because it’s the only area that matters to the GOP : holding onto their power. We’ve already seen them gerrymander beyond belief, politicize the Justice Department, make up facts, and use every other dirty trick in the book to keep their increasingly tenuous grasp on the levers of government.
And by keeping the hands of the well-intentioned away from political power, they achieve de-facto progress towards their goals : ignoring inconvenient problems, making the government less efficient at solving those problems and more efficient at funneling public money towards their fellow crooks and cronies (who then kick some of it back to keep the wheels of the machine appropriately greased).
learn what? please tell me what they learned? See, this is what gets me- Craigs homosexuality is not the problem. The problem is that craig is a goddamned predator. Why can’t someone see that craigs name belongs on the sexual predator list. this lying pig would just love to get his hands on a young “fresh” boy.The only thing that has stopped him so far (and we really don’t know for sure) is that he is petrified!
Show the officer a card identifying him as a US Senator. For crying out loud, the only this this criminal didn’t do was offer to go down on the officer. (AND WE DON”T KNOW THAT HE DID’NT!)
rhetorical questions are so boring…of course it’s the only area; it’s all they’ve got left.
other than homophobia, xenophobia, racism and god….they’re fucked.
they sure as hell don’t know how govern….send them all home, they’re wasting space and air in DC.

Speaking of funny, if you haven’t run across the GROUPNEWSBLOG.NET, it’s a few of Steve Gilliard’s regular commenters who have formed a blog much like Steve’s. Check out Gonzo’s visit to the ranch. Will. Make. Your. Day………….
“Is our GOP learning?”
I’m gonna say “no”, not as long as they can’t keep such wonderful luminaries like Tom DeLay off the air. Whoever decided it would be a good idea for Tom DeLay to go on TV and talk about a fellow Republican facing an ethics scandal is either the smartest Democratic consultant of all time, or the next person in line to run John McCain’s campaign.
Yanking the rug out from under ol’ Larry there is one thing, but having the Hammer say word one about it may have to be the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen.
The GOP can’t even do the patently obvious right anymore.
Well, from a Dem perspective, it’s best if “Wide Stance” Larry hangs on for another year. Better yet if he tries to get re-elected.
That way he can take his damaged goods to the polls next November, and collect a huge thumping.
So it’s not surprising that Repugs want him out PDQ.
As for “diaper boy” Vitter, he needs to be publically humiliated. With no respite, until he decides to resign to spend more time with his Pampers.
And we really need to get some contests going for the new meaning of the “GOP” acronym. “Gang Of Perverts”, for example, and make sure that whenever the public sees “GOP” they immediately think “Gang Of Perverts”
I already do think that.
