It rained for about 10 minutes several weeks ago, but literally no rain since May other than that. They say it will take 15 to 20 inches over the next 2 months to recover.
That’s a depressing map. We’re on the in severe with the extreme just to our east and south. We got around 2″ on Saturday but nothing after that and there’s no more in the forecast for at least a week. Only good thing is that the temps have dropped.
Maybe we can all grab one and just row away from work. 🙂
No that’s how I shot it — I thought it was nice of the camp staff to provide me such a nice setup for a pic. I decided to go back a couple of days later and shoot it from directly overhead but some neat freaks had but every thing away.
Good morning all. Back at work after a day off where the boran2 boy had 2 of his baby teeth pulled. Not pleasant but the procedure took less than 5 minutes, prep time not included. The price: $420.00. Ouch.
Our high this weekend is only supposed to be in the 60s which after almost two months in the 90s sounds absolutely lovely. I hope you have great weather and a great weekend with the asklets.
Been over to orange where the natives are indeed restless. I’ve been trollrated for snark and just exited what is shaping up to be an Obama flamewar, both in a very brief period of time. (where I was only a lurker) Thanks for BMT!
Good morning all! TFSMIF, all right. And the end of CNtE’s first week of school. (It seems to be going well – last night he came home saying it might be easier to board M-F, and he’s actually talking about what they’re doing in class for a change).
And it’s a baseball weekend: Friday night practice, Saturday game, Sunday game.
Well, it might stay below 90 and there is talk of…..RAIN!….so I’m very excited. I might sweep off my deck since there is about 6 inches of long leaf pine needles covering it.
Good morning ask! I was trying for a little extra sleep this morning, but was awakened by a severe leg cramp at 7 – definitely not a fun way to wake up..
Morning everyone. We had an inch or two of rain yesterday…blessed, badly needed rain. Everyone just looked stunned that it was finally raining…even the animals. We’ve still got a 15-inch deficit and extreme drought conditions…..it’s only the second time it’s rained since May!
Last weekend I noticed a young woman standing outdoors, with her face turned toward the sky, reveling in the moisture. She was completely soaked. I left work last Fri. night and walked through the storm for a while, it just felt so good.
I did the same thing yesterday – just stood out in the backyard looking straight up for about 10 minutes. There’s something we must badly need in falling rain, because when you do that it just feels so good!
Andi, is that picture from this morning? Looks like a gorgeous day ahead.
Ask, goood to hear you had such a restful night – must be the fresh air!
Indianadem, I hope you’ll post new Outhouse race photos today. That looks like fun.
SN, I’m glad you FINALLY got some rain. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for more.
We had a little drizzle last night, and it’s looking threatening today. Which is a shame because we have field day for CBtE, baseball for CBtY, and I need to squeeze in my morning walk today too if I want to complete this week’s marathon.
Good morning!
Saw your gorgeous picture above. Have a few similar ones waiting to be developed in my old fashioned camera, but surely none are as beautiful as that. I might have to ask you for a copy.
Amazing! Its been many years since I wandered the streets of Manhattan with my grandfather, but some of the memories are still quite clear. We visited the Bronx Zoo, Hayden Planetarium, the Battery, as well as Central Park and many other landmarks. I doubt I would recognize any of it now. He spent his entire working life commuting downtown, first from Brooklyn and later on, from Garden City, LI, almost within sight of the old Doubleday Publishing building in Hempstead.
Garden City, Hempstead, LI!- I grew up one town over. Born in Brooklyn too. Some of those sites in NYC have changed, but a lot of them remain the same – you would recognize many, especially because a lot of them are even more beautiful now!
I must post a P.S. to the talented nature photographer comment, since we have several of them in residence, Andi, Olivia & several others who post less frequently;-)
Good morning, Andi and keres!
A cool 43 this morning in Lenox.
keres, just check a bit upthread – indianadem posted link to pictures from last year’s race.
I think outhouse races qualify for “things that make you go hmmmmm.” 😉
It was supposed to get all the way up to 19C today, but it never did. Instead it got overcast and a bit drizzly. Oh well. Maybe tomorrow. Here’s hoping that Summer falls on a weekend this year.
Tomorrow I’m painting a tunnel (really – we have permission to put up a temp. mural reminding young people to sign up to vote).
And then there’s still a few more plumbing bits that need attaching before I can take a break (before starting the next phase).
The fence really needs a big push to get the gates hung and the front sections finally figured out. Especially since a possum keeps getting into the veggie garden.
Oh, and then there’s the magazine, which needs to be put together in the next two weeks.
Good morning Andi and good night keres! Sorry, no outhouse coverage this year. I’ve been working Saturdays and missed the race. Ah, the sacrifices of those of us in public service.
I did hear that the format had changed and they just rolled them down a hill a la soap box derby instead of having push power as in prior years.
Monday’s here, and mostly gone, on this side of the planet.
I spent about five hours painting a mural on the University of Tasmania campus urging students to vote for the Greens in the Hobart city counsel elections. Since it’s a postal vote, the mural features an anthropomorphized post box (not my idea) and a ballot with the names of the Greens candidates. And for this, I got my BFA. 😉
I’ve got another few hours to put in tomorrow in order to finish it. After that, it’s home to work on the fence with my shiny new tool.
Good morning everybody!
Good morning, CG!
Great photo this morning.
yeah, I guess that view is familiar.
Up early? 😉
I have a very similar image…
Busy last couple of days – interesting to check the various incoming links (apart from reddit, fark, digg, etc.).
I actually have a few good ones from that little hike through the park, so there will be more forthcoming.
How are you this morning?
Well, thanks. Trying to relax.
What is that – a water lily?
Morning everyone. Still no damn rain.
I love the leaves on those waterlilies.
We have your rain this morning. And we actually needed it this time.
Are all the big summer storms missing you?
It rained for about 10 minutes several weeks ago, but literally no rain since May other than that. They say it will take 15 to 20 inches over the next 2 months to recover.
US drought monitor

Good morning all. Yep, plenty o’ rain here. Nice photo, CG.
Mornin’ boran. Sounds like you have the same weather we do today.
Must be time to put your oar in and get the work week outta here.
Good morning!
Guess it’s Wednesday.
A cool and muggy morning here.
It’s cool here but not muggy.
Do you see the image in my comment?
I see it. A retaining wall of some sort?
I can’t see it at all — the intertubes are gaslighting me.
Yes, it’s a wall down at the camp’s swimming area. I liked the bright orange paddles against the curving grey wall.
The picture was there on preview but now it’s gone.
OK – oars for all.
(interesting composition, or is the image cropped?)
Maybe we can all grab one and just row away from work. 🙂
No that’s how I shot it — I thought it was nice of the camp staff to provide me such a nice setup for a pic. I decided to go back a couple of days later and shoot it from directly overhead but some neat freaks had but every thing away.
It’s a perfect pic for those days when you’re feeling like you’re up a certain creek without a paddle…
Good morning all. Back at work after a day off where the boran2 boy had 2 of his baby teeth pulled. Not pleasant but the procedure took less than 5 minutes, prep time not included. The price: $420.00. Ouch.
I’m in the wrong business.
BTW, happy new year, andi!
and shanna tova to you and your family.
The welcome wagon has rolled into town
Poor Thursday — it’s just desperate for attention.
Morning/Afternoon/Evening All.
Good morning, Andi!
We’re getting there. It’s almost cold – 59 this morning.
It’s only 48 (66 in the house) so it feels pretty cool here — which is very nice.
That sounds like the forecast for the Berkeshires this w/e. Young asklet will come with us this time, hopefully, his big sister as well.
Our high this weekend is only supposed to be in the 60s which after almost two months in the 90s sounds absolutely lovely. I hope you have great weather and a great weekend with the asklets.
It’s really chilly here this morning. I better finish knitting the neck on someone’s special sweater today…
You guys are just getting me jealous now. Cool?
Yep – I even wore long pants on my walk yesterday afternoon.
You could always come up and visit. Hopeful and a high of 66 — what more could you want? 🙂
Wow, that one taxed my brain for a few minutes before I figured it out. You are so thoughtful to give Thursday some thunder.
Morning, everyone!
G’night ManEe!
Hi AndiF, ask, and anyone else who may have snuck in.
Oh, and Happy New Year, Andi. CBtY has today off, but CBtE has school, so it will be a bit of a relaxing day here.
Good afternoon and happy new year!
Been over to orange where the natives are indeed restless. I’ve been trollrated for snark and just exited what is shaping up to be an Obama flamewar, both in a very brief period of time. (where I was only a lurker) Thanks for BMT!
green means safe, orange means beware of sharks and those a little less progressive
This is all ye know on earth and all ye need to know.
Good morning, Andi!
We’re there.
Any word on FM, have not seen him around for a week (and no added clues on his blog)?
Yep, weekend’s almost here. I’ll bet you’re looking forward to getting to the Berkshires.
I always assume that when FM goes awol, he’s having migraines.
Let’s think positively and assume he found a young southern belle and they ran off together and he’s not even thinking of us.
I’m all for such positive thoughts.
I was assuming that too, but I like SN’s idea better.
What are you-all up to?
Well, it might stay below 90 and there is talk of…..RAIN!….so I’m very excited. I might sweep off my deck since there is about 6 inches of long leaf pine needles covering it.
I got all excited when I saw rain was headed your way too. 🙂
CG, good to hear that h.s. is going well for CBtE.
SN, here’s hoping for rain.
Off to stumble in the early morning light.
Ta.
Good morning all. TGIF.
Good morning, Andi!
Seven straight hours of sleep, how about that.
Woke up to rain here in Lenox.
Good morning ask! I was trying for a little extra sleep this morning, but was awakened by a severe leg cramp at 7 – definitely not a fun way to wake up..
Ai-ai – those are painful.
And good morning!
Everyone else is still asleep here (curly & asklets), but I better get the coffee going.
Eat those bananas, ID. 🙂
Mrs. Dem and I almost always split one for part of our breakfast. Guess I’ll have to up my intake. Boy are those cramps annoying!
I find if you smother banana slices in chocolate syrup they’re much more palatable. 😉
And good morning to you, SN!
Good morning Andi! Outhouse races are today.
OK – this furriner does not know what an outhouse race is.
I’ll be back shortly with photos from last year. BTW, my team won!!!
Link to last year’s race. Just scroll down a bit.
Those are great!
One sitting and two pushing?
Exactly. Half way through the course, one of the pushers has to switch with the driver.
We chose a Wizard of Oz theme for ours – “What a wonderful wiz it was!”
Morning everyone. We had an inch or two of rain yesterday…blessed, badly needed rain. Everyone just looked stunned that it was finally raining…even the animals. We’ve still got a 15-inch deficit and extreme drought conditions…..it’s only the second time it’s rained since May!

Almost as good as an afternoon nap;-) (Filling in for FM in his absence)
Good morning Andi, ask, Indianadem, and SN!

Good morning curly! Isn’t it nice to have such a talented nature photographer in residence?
Good morning ID –
Yes, we are very fortunate!
Can you believe that pic was taken in Central Park!?
Amazing! Its been many years since I wandered the streets of Manhattan with my grandfather, but some of the memories are still quite clear. We visited the Bronx Zoo, Hayden Planetarium, the Battery, as well as Central Park and many other landmarks. I doubt I would recognize any of it now. We do have a wealth of amazing photographers, all with their own style, don’t we? I’m always impressed with keres’ bird and animal pictures too.
I’ll send it to you. I have the butterfly one you liked too. 🙂
Thanks, looking forward to that.
Good morning CabinGirl! Don’t know if I’ll make the race this year. We’ll see how the day develops.
Hope everyone enjoys the day and that IndianaDem stops by to bring us up-to-date on the outhouse races.
Imogen left for Canburra earlier this evening. 🙁 It’s just me and the critters until Thursday night – again. [sigh]
We did manage to get in a long walk on the beach, with Luna of course, just before her flight.
I’d ask about the outhouse races, but I’m not sure I really want to know.
Good morning, Andi and keres!
A cool 43 this morning in Lenox.

Morning ask. Hope you have a great day.
And since we’re having gorgeous weather (damn, I wish it would rain), the Pack think we need to go for a good, long walk.
See ya.
I’m sorry Imogen is gone again.
OTOH, about that tasmanian bird wiki page …
Well, let’s see:
Tomorrow I’m painting a tunnel (really – we have permission to put up a temp. mural reminding young people to sign up to vote).
And then there’s still a few more plumbing bits that need attaching before I can take a break (before starting the next phase).

I’m sure somebody somewhere is happy about that but whoever it is, it sure isn’t me.

I’m happy about it. I spent my weekend playing cab driver to the CBs, and I need a rest. 🙂
