Spaceflight Open Thread

When I first started blogging, I thought I’d end up writing about space travel more often. I grew up reading more science fiction than my parents and teachers thought was healthy, and always hoped that it would be possible to travel in space, myself.

So, Google and the Ansari X Prize Foundation are now offering up to $30 million for a successful lunar landing mission carried out with private financing. Go read all about it, because this is some wicked cool stuff.

It was only about 1998 or so that the rules were changed to permit private spaceflight. Not even a decade later, people are doing it. It warms the geekiest cockles of my heart.
