    New day, new cafe.

    Good morning everyone!

Not that I’m prejudiced or anything, but I think “mom’s Taxi” is reason #67 of “Why Pets are better than Children”.

I think it’s also on the “Why Cucumbers are better than Men” list, but I’m not sure about the ranking.

      • ask
ask on September 17, 2007 at 6:27 am

Okay – you got quite some lists there, close to x-rated, I’d say 😉

        • keres
keres on September 17, 2007 at 6:32 am

I remember my mom having a copy of the latter back in the late 70’s, so it can hardly be X-rated.  Probably more like PG-13.

      • CabinGirl
CabinGirl on September 17, 2007 at 6:43 am

btw, I used to have a ‘cucumbers are better than men’ poster in my room…where did I go wrong?  🙂

I was happy enough to do it (CBtE wanted to stay at the new school for lunch and part of the afternoon Saturday, which added an extra trip, plus none of the baseball game times coincided with anything else), but boy it’s exhausting.

Next week all I have to do is attend the ball games, because it’s their dad’s weekend.  Oh, and listen to him whine about driving them everywhere they need to go.

And then there are times when their superiority is questionable.

Such as tomorrow, when I’m taking Luna with me to finish the Greens’ mural at the University.  Let’s hope her lack of fingers deter her from “finger painting” anything, including herself.

Must remember to bring lots of water and towels.

Morning ask.  You’ll have to look at the last lounge to see how my day went.

On the plus side, the weather was georgous.  On the minus side, I spent most of the day in a tunnel (painting a portion).

Crystal clear and in the fifties!  Wow, it’s the first time I’ve been able to stay outside for more than 5 minutes all summer.  Keeping my fingers crossed that the heat is over.

On another topic: I missed the Emmy’s but heard that they censored Sally Field for saying if mothers ruled the world there wouldn’t be any goddamn wars.

That sounds like a nice wayto spend the day.

My office trip does have the benefit of seeing some of my old colleagues from previous jobs – some of whom I haven’t seen since early 2005.  That part will be fun.

Getting out of the house early and wearing office clothes, not so much.  🙂

Hello everyone, how is everyone doing, I just wanted to drop in here to tell you that Sangreal79, my Iraqi friend has gotten asylum in the US, hurray, I told her she must be among the first as there haven’t been many.  She is very happy, and relieved as well, and by the way she is also now married to an American.
I hope you all are well and happy.

Yes she is still in Kansas and still in school for one more year.  It’s been a rough ride for her with some gliltches in the process that had her very worried, but finally the good news came.

      Hi Diane,
      Long time!
Thanks for the update on sangreal.  Lucky indeed, I think the total number is still below 10,000 (aggregate since the start of the war).  A shame compared to e.g., the Swedes.
      How are you?

      • diane101
        diane101 on September 19, 2007 at 11:47 am

Hi Ask, yes indeed longtime my friend, and I don’t think the number is 10,000, last I heard it was under 100.  That was in July I think, and during the Kennedy hearings earlier this year the number was under 25.
Nice to hear from you Ask.
I started out this morning reading the diary by AG, and almost didn’t post, but then decided what the heck, it’s always safe in the cafe. LOL.

        • ask
ask on September 19, 2007 at 12:18 pm

I think I read somewhere that the objective was to receive 7,000 before the end of 2007.
          However, it is failing miserably.
(The link is from January, but I don’t think the numbers have increased much since then.)

As Iraqi refugees flee, let’s not forget Vietnam

Although Iraq, as yet, offers no image to match that one, its refugee crisis is almost as dire. According to the United Nations, as many as 3.4 million people have fled (including many who left before the U.S. invasion), a number that continues to escalate. Yet since the 2003 invasion, only 466 Iraqi refugees have been allowed into the USA.

So far, just baseball games on both days, a trip or two down to the city, and some organizing of things around the house.  Oh, and probably some lawn care.

Okay. There is one that is fantastic.  Fidel Castro and a belly dancer- about 4 ft. x 6 ft.

And now I’m off to the woods.

            Ta.

That’s exciting.  (The sale of their art, not the airport runs).

I’m going walking, organizing more stuff, working on a paper, and going to a baseball game today.  I thought weekends were supposed to be relaxing?

      Good morning, Andi and SN!
Sorry to hear of your muggy conditions – we’re in for beautiful fall weather again.  Yesterday’s humidity is gone – a sunny 64 now.  curly and I will have breakfast in the park.  See you later.

Good morning Andi, Second Nature, ask, CabinGirl and Family Man!

I’ve been porch-sitting, watching the cat chase half-grown squirrels and sipping French Roast (me, not the cat). The temp is quite pleasant, about the same as yours, ask.

        Good morning ID.

I just took George out and our temp is at 72.  It’s pretty comfortable outside at the moment.  We had about 10 minutes of rain yesterday, but they’re predicting more today.  Hopefully it will last longer.

We’re still very dry here and at least one of the fire chiefs is considering an outdoor burning ban. Rain is predicted for mid-week, so I guess we’ll see if any relief comes then. Hope you get yours today.

I saw on the news last night they lifted the burn ban on six counties down here.  Hopefully ya’ll will get that rain mid-week.

Good morning Andi, SN and ask.

I’m still half asleep and waiting on the coffee maker to make.  I’ll be back once I’ve got some caffeine in me.

Remind me never to babysit someone else’s dog overnight.   It was like a circus on the bed…and not in a good way.  Hopey is so jealous of any attention I give my son’s dog and they both HAVE to sleep on the bed and they spent most of the night jockeying for position, trying to be closest to my face.

Oh sorry, you surprised me — I sure wasn’t expecting you here so early.

Sounds like a good reason to go sleep in the extra bedroom — with the door closed.
