Hi CG,
Low 40s now.
It’s just curly and me these days in Lenox. Sun is up, fresh coffee in the pot.
swimmer and I will go to Boston and Maine Fri/Sat to see three colleges.
Morning everyone. Slept late today and trying to get some coffee down. It appears to be a nice day outside today. I might venture out later to see if it is.
Heh. Let’s see, the grocery store, Home Depot, the farm to pick up vegetables, tennis lessons, drop-off the donation for the school auction…if my car were in the shop, I might call it a blessing. 🙂
Hey CG. I’m trying to sell off and otherwise empty out our third floor bonus room of furniture so the painters can come and get rid of the hideous popcorn ceiling and then paint the room. I have no idea how we got the 4000 lb This End Up sofa up three flights of stairs, but no one is looking forward to to trying to maneuver it back down and around the many tight corners. Other than that, not much. Watching the Indians-Red Sox series of course.
Go Indians! The Rockies will tromple them in the series (haven’t they won 23 of the last 24 games or something ridiculous like that?), but hey, at least they could get that far, right? 😉
I have no idea how you got that ThisEndUp couch up there either. Those suckers are heavy.
That reminds me, I think I left ‘Run donations over to the Goodwill store” off my list.
The National league is traditionally weaker than the American league, and having won that ridiculous streak of games I’m betting they’re due for a crash.
The Pink Fingers are truly tiny – about half an inch across. The Waxlips are about twice that size. Both are flowering in abundance this year.
At the moment we have six species flowering and we’re still waiting on the Musk Stegostylis to show itself – so we could conceivably have seven flowering at once – which would be our best year.
Our other two species of orchid are autumn flowering.
Thanks to wifi when I travel or go to the library, I was at least prepared for the wonders of hi-speed so I didn’t have a heart attack and, of course, satellite isn’t nearly as fast as cable or dsl but I’ll take the 20-30 times increase.
Very sleepy. It’s kind of a cloudy day here today, which I guess will lessen the distractions from my work for me. (I can at least pretend that’s how it works, anyway.)
Kind of cloudy here today also, and I’m hoping for rain. Yep got visitors, but they said they’re leaving today. I’ll have to wait and see on that. 🙂
So far, the coffee hasn’t made much of a dent. I’ll keep trying, though. If that doesn’t work, I may have to go for my walk and see if that gets my neurons firing.
yep, pine straw…my nemesis. A week after paying $80 to have the gutters cleaned, they’re totally filled again with pine straw. You think I’d have this pine needle shedding season thing figured out after 5 years but it always surprises me.
Hey FM…I’m doing pretty well. I’ve got some workers at the house today so I’m kinda stuck inside for the day and it’s gorgeous out. How are you and FMom doing?
We’re doing fair. FMom hasn’t been feeling well lately, but damn if I can get her to go to the doctor. I don’t know what it is with old people. I think they’re afraid if they go to the doctor they might find something wrong.
Other than that, I’m waiting to see if the rels are going home today.
You’re stuck inside. Did you get your vehicle out of the shop?
yup, my motorcar is all shiny and happy and even the left turn signal works. Do you leave the house when there are work crews in there? I don’t have experience with these things.
My problem is oak leaves that are big as a sheet of paper. And I decided that I’m not doing it this year. I’m treating myself to paying someone with the right equipment to come and deal with them.
Now I just need to find someone to do it. Why did all my friends get out of the landscape business?
We’re all fine. Waiting for fall baseball to end so we can have our weekends back, going to school stuff for CBtE tonight/tomorrow, all that kind of stuff. How are all the borans?
I’ve got to go to Massachusetts next week, I’ll see if I can get some nice red maples for you with my cell phone camera.
Well speaking of drought — we’re having a storm here and now I’m experiencing the downside of my satellite semi-broadband — it plays hell with the connection. I keep losing it for several minutes. But it’s worth it to get some rain.
I would definitely appreciate the pictures. I was wondering how the satellite was working out for you. I would think even with its drawbacks, it’s still better than what you had.
Congrats on the rain. Hope it keeps coming, and you have a wet wonderland up there. 🙂
According to the radar, we should be getting some really heavy wet very soon so I’ll probably disappear. But yeah, the satellite is still way better than dial-up.
Just in case you decide to look into satellite — we’re doing Wildblue — the install, equipment and the monthly charges were less than Direcway (the big thing, though, is that we didn’t have to take down any trees for Wildblue and we would have for Direcway). I’d rather have cable or DSL but cable is probably never going to happen and DSL is probably a year or more away.
My clearest memories of Boston are: medical waste and dead horse-shoe crabs on the “beach”; and round-abouts that defied the time/space continuum. I’m sure there are better aspects to be seen and that I just missed them.
This surely calls for an emergency trip to Hobart. What if a fantastic bird flies by and you can’t get a picture of it — no, no, I won’t think about it, it’s just too horrible to contemplate.
We were surrounded by bad weather last night — literally — but we just got rain as well. But we had lots of rain in the earlier so I didn’t mind at all.
I wish I could nap. I’m sure the inability to do so is a reflection of the true corruption on my soul. Or else it’s that I know if I take a nap, I won’t sleep at night.
I’m torn between being delighted that the week is over, and wishing for one more weekday to get all my work done.
The CBs are going to their dad’s this weekend, and I think we don’t have any baseball commitments, so I’m looking forward to a couple of peaceful days at home.
If you’re wishing for another weekday to get work done, then you are definitely slackatudinally challenged. Work will always be there, and weekends are made to slack.
I’ll bet you’ve seen some nice fall color. How’s the campus visit going?
I think my brain isn’t fully engaged (at least that’s the excuse I’m using) because I can’t figure out the “B” (assuming I’m right and the rest of it is “in Portland, Maine).
Hi CG,
We better hit the road soon – she has an interview at 9.30. It was dark when we got in last night – no time for sightseeing in Portland, alas. Maybe coming back this afternoon.
It looks like the rain has stopped here, and we might get to enjoy some outdoor time this weekend. I wish the fall colors were a little more brilliant, but I’ll take what I can get.
Hi FM. I’m being a little slackerly this morning, but will have to do some work later (I had a power outage yesterday afternoon, so I need to finish something else up.)
I’m just finishing up my first cup of coffee and trying to wake up enough for a morning walk.
We’re about to head off to Cincy to my m-i-l back home. Jim had Thursday and Friday off so Friday he went to pick up her Mom to take her to Indy so she could visit friends and then she spent the night here.
We had rain Thursday and Friday — made me very happy. I’ll take more but we aren’t apparently going to get any.
Good morning Family Man & ask. The last few weeks at work have been quite hectic, punctuated by moments of high anxiety, but the outcome was good. I have a little breathing space for awhile. Hope all is well with you.
Congratulations to Andi and Jim on finally going high speed out there in the hinterlands!
Sorry to hear about the high anxiety and that it has been hectic for you. We’ve finally gotten cool weather down here, but it will be mid to late Nov. before it turn cold.
Yep I’m glad Andi and Jim have gotten out of the slow lane for internet connections too.
for those longing for winter <looks at fm>…we’ve got the first taste in the foothills, a very fonky day. light rain and trace of snow overnight and this morning, temps in mid 30ºf range…brrrrr…it was in the 70’s yesterday.

Good morning!
Thanks for the new cafe and for the compliment on the pic (in the last cafe) — I thought the picture had a very calming feel to it.
I think it looks very still and quiet there (in the picture).
Good morning, again!
Looks like we’re in for a great day in Lenox.
Cool. I’ll bet it’s chilly there, though. Are you visiting schools all week? How many more do you have to go?
Hi CG,
Low 40s now.
It’s just curly and me these days in Lenox. Sun is up, fresh coffee in the pot.
swimmer and I will go to Boston and Maine Fri/Sat to see three colleges.
Ooops. I thought that you were already off to see the schools.
Sounds like a nice relaxing extended weekend for you and curly.
Good morning all. A beautiful day here in the Valley. I’ll be walking today.
Hey boran, glad you’re having some of the nice weather too. Do you go walking at lunchtime or after work?
Hay, CG! Lunchtime, while the sun is still bright. It’s a good way to break up the day.
Morning everyone. Slept late today and trying to get some coffee down. It appears to be a nice day outside today. I might venture out later to see if it is.
Don’t do anything rash, FM. Why don’t you just observe the weather from under the carport?
Morning SN.
Of course I’ll observe the weather from under the carport. Anything else would be most unslackerly. 🙂
How are you doing today?
My car is in the shop so I am thinking about all of the places I would be going if I had a car.
Hey that’s good for the rest of us. That means you’ll be on the computer more. 🙂
Heh. Let’s see, the grocery store, Home Depot, the farm to pick up vegetables, tennis lessons, drop-off the donation for the school auction…if my car were in the shop, I might call it a blessing. 🙂
What are you up to this week?
Hey CG. I’m trying to sell off and otherwise empty out our third floor bonus room of furniture so the painters can come and get rid of the hideous popcorn ceiling and then paint the room. That reminds me, I think I left ‘Run donations over to the Goodwill store” off my list.
The National league is traditionally weaker than the American league, and having won that ridiculous streak of games I’m betting they’re due for a crash.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.
The South, apparently, has seceded from Booland.
Okay, Booman fixed it! 🙂
Pink Fingers orchid.
Waxlip orchid.
Those are lovely. But seven at one blow — why that sounds like a fairy tale. 😉
<grin> Yes it does.
Which reminds me that that other harbinger of spring is just starting to appear – the Aussie blow fly.
Funny, we’ve just hit the harbinger of cold weather — the wasps are coming indoors.
With us, it’s mice and ants that come in from the cold.
The mice here are year-rounders. Ants haven’t ever been much of a problem. And it’s about time for the skinks to come in, too — but I don’t mind them.
This is the first time I’ve uploaded and posted an image since I got semi-broadband (satellite). Woo hoo, preview sure was fast.
Go Andi. We can so relate.
Imogen says, “prepare to be addicted to speed.”
Thanks to wifi when I travel or go to the library, I was at least prepared for the wonders of hi-speed so I didn’t have a heart attack and, of course, satellite isn’t nearly as fast as cable or dsl but I’ll take the 20-30 times increase.
Already addicted. 😀
Amazing photo, Andi! Thanks
Just beautiful
Hi Shirl! And thanks. Of course, I can’t take a lot of credit — all I have to do is walk out my door and look around; the woods do all the work. 🙂
Good morning Andi and Keres.
Great pictures from both of you. Andi ya’ll finally went with semi-hi speed. Yeee Haw.
and see ya later — I’m going to semi-hi speed it out of here and into the woods. Ta.
Did I miss everyone already?
Morning CG.
Nope I’m still around for awhile. How are you today?
Very sleepy. It’s kind of a cloudy day here today, which I guess will lessen the distractions from my work for me. (I can at least pretend that’s how it works, anyway.)
What are you up to today? Got visitors?
Coffee, you need lots of coffee.
Are the leaves falling off the trees down there?
Yep we’re starting to get some leaves falling, but not that many. More pine straw and pine cones than anything else.
If the coffee and walking don’t work, I suggest going back to bed. 🙂
yep, pine straw…my nemesis. A week after paying $80 to have the gutters cleaned, they’re totally filled again with pine straw. You think I’d have this pine needle shedding season thing figured out after 5 years but it always surprises me.
Morning SN.
Simple solution. Take the gutters down. The lawn was done earlier this week, and it’s already full of pine straw again.
How have you been doing?
Hey FM…I’m doing pretty well. I’ve got some workers at the house today so I’m kinda stuck inside for the day and it’s gorgeous out. How are you and FMom doing?
We’re doing fair. FMom hasn’t been feeling well lately, but damn if I can get her to go to the doctor. I don’t know what it is with old people. I think they’re afraid if they go to the doctor they might find something wrong.

Now I just need to find someone to do it. Why did all my friends get out of the landscape business?
Good morning all. It looks like rain but these days the mornings are so dark it’s hard to tell.
Good morning boran! It looks like it’s starting to clear off here, so maybe you’ll get your lunchtime walk in today anyway.
Hay, CG! Yeah, I’d love to walk today. How are the cabins doing?
We’re all fine. Waiting for fall baseball to end so we can have our weekends back, going to school stuff for CBtE tonight/tomorrow, all that kind of stuff. How are all the borans?
We’re enjoying the b2 boy’s soccer games. He’s doing very well this year.
Morning Boran.
We’ve got an 80% chance of rain this evening. I’m hoping.
Gotta go. Great nephew is up and hungry. I wonder what cartoons we’ll watch today.
Everyone have a good day in the pond.
Hay FM. The b3 boy recommends kappa mikey on nicktoons.
fall color has finally started to arrived, though I expect there won’t be a great show this year because of the drought.
Morning Andi.
Beautiful picture and a lot more colors than we have down here. That’s one thing I looked forward to when I lived in New Hampshire, the Fall colors.

According to the radar, we should be getting some really heavy wet very soon so I’ll probably disappear. But yeah, the satellite is still way better than dial-up.
Well I’ll be seeing ya. I’ve had another up all nighter again, and I think I’ll see if I can get some sleep.
BTW since you’ve upgraded to satellite, how long before you get a T3 connection? 🙂
There’s is no t3 here but I can get T1 — just as soon as I win the lottery.
Congrats on the satellite connection! I’m still living in 1990s mode on my dial up, but at $9.99/month it’s a hard habit to break.
Well bummer! The compact flash card in my camera just died – taking a fair few pictures with it.
Which means I’m camera-less until I get a new one! How will I cope?!
Morning, keres!
Sorry to hear that.
Catching a red-eye to Boston with my daughter, she’s having a hard time getting up.
Sorry about the red-eye, and the sleepy kid.
I hope you have fun in Boston.
My clearest memories of Boston are: medical waste and dead horse-shoe crabs on the “beach”; and round-abouts that defied the time/space continuum. I’m sure there are better aspects to be seen and that I just missed them.
Checking out colleges.
Ciao.
This surely calls for an emergency trip to Hobart. What if a fantastic bird flies by and you can’t get a picture of it — no, no, I won’t think about it, it’s just too horrible to contemplate.
Good morning Andi, keres and ask.
There were tornado warnings and sirens going off yesterday afternoon here, but all we got at the house was a little sprinkle.
How’s everyone today?
We were surrounded by bad weather last night — literally — but we just got rain as well. But we had lots of rain in the earlier so I didn’t mind at all.
Oh yeah (and not that you would care) but TFSMIF.
I was looking for some rain yesterday, but…..
You know I’m always happy when it’s TFSMIF. Not for me of course, but I know other people need naps too. 🙂
I wish I could nap. I’m sure the inability to do so is a reflection of the true corruption on my soul. Or else it’s that I know if I take a nap, I won’t sleep at night.
I think it has to do with you leading such a busy life. Before I retired, I could never nap. But now, Ahhhhh naps. 🙂
Nope, I didn’t nap when I was a kid, either — as my mom still likes to
complain aboutmention.Actually I’m just a beginning napper. I want to get up to the advanced areas of napping. Napping while I’m standing – now that’s a goal.
I’m torn between being delighted that the week is over, and wishing for one more weekday to get all my work done.
The CBs are going to their dad’s this weekend, and I think we don’t have any baseball commitments, so I’m looking forward to a couple of peaceful days at home.
Morning CG.
If you’re wishing for another weekday to get work done, then you are definitely slackatudinally challenged. Work will always be there, and weekends are made to slack.
Yeah, but I’m behind because I took time yesterday to go to Parents day at CBtE’s school, so I’m really not that challenged.
What are you up to?
It’s just the usual around here. Waiting for George to give me the message he wants to go outside, and downing coffee trying to wake up.
George just let me know he’s ready to go out. Guess I’ve got to get the day started.
Everyone have a good day in the pond.
You and George have a good day!
I got George, Cat and Tom taken care of, and next it the house to clean up. Hope your Friday passes fast and you have a good w/e.
More fall color.
Good morning, Andi!
Waking up in Portland, ME. No BiPM sightings so far.
I’ll bet you’ve seen some nice fall color. How’s the campus visit going?
I think my brain isn’t fully engaged (at least that’s the excuse I’m using) because I can’t figure out the “B” (assuming I’m right and the rest of it is “in Portland, Maine).
Hi Andi,
The colors are past peak, but it is still beautiful. swimmer has liked what she has seen so far (BC and Tufts) – Bowdoin visit today.
BiPM – sorry, the reference is kos-related. Bill iPM – has a daily post called “Cheers and Jeers” – lots of fun.
Ah, then I don’t have to feel bad — I rarely go to kos so I don’t know any of that.
Glad she’s seeing schools she likes. I can see Boston being a very appealing place to go to school
Ah, but do they still have that green lizard across the street from the Cumberland County Civic Center?
And Three Dollar Dewey’s was my favorite pub there.
Glad to hear swimmer’s liking the schools.
Hi CG,
We better hit the road soon – she has an interview at 9.30. It was dark when we got in last night – no time for sightseeing in Portland, alas. Maybe coming back this afternoon.
Have fun, and I hope you get to do a little sightseeing on the way back.
Beautiful photo!
What are you and Jim and the pack up to today?
It looks like the rain has stopped here, and we might get to enjoy some outdoor time this weekend. I wish the fall colors were a little more brilliant, but I’ll take what I can get.
Good morning CG, Andi and ask.
Beautiful colors Andi. Our pine trees seem to be getting darker, I’ll have to take some pictures. 🙂
CG are you getting some slack time this w/e?
Ask take it easy up there.
Now for some coffee.
Hi FM. I’m being a little slackerly this morning, but will have to do some work later (I had a power outage yesterday afternoon, so I need to finish something else up.)
I’m just finishing up my first cup of coffee and trying to wake up enough for a morning walk.
Was your outage from the weather? That’s what usually causes ours.
I think the coffee pot has stopped perking, and I’m going to get my first cup now.
Anyway, gotta get going. Have a fine weekend.
You, Jim and m-i-l have a safe trip and fun too.
See ya.
It’s a chilly 47F right now. We still haven’t used the heat yet, but I think soon.
Hope everyone is fine today and the w/e is going well.
Good morning, FM!
Looking great here this morning; 57 now, forecast mid-70s. How is your morning?
Hi ask.
The day is starting slackerly and looks to get even slower after coffee.
Are you still on your college trip or back home?
Back in last night.
Trying to slack, but then I saw a topic that in my opinion needed a diary – so back in a bit.
Good morning ID.
Sorry to hear about the high anxiety and that it has been hectic for you. We’ve finally gotten cool weather down here, but it will be mid to late Nov. before it turn cold.
Yep I’m glad Andi and Jim have gotten out of the slow lane for internet connections too.
Hope you’ve been having a peaceful w/e.
The brunch dishes are done – time for some serious slacking!
Sundays are made for slacking. 🙂
Good afternoon all. A beautiful day here in the Valley. Off to do grocery shopping.
Good afternoon boran2! I normally do the grocery shopping here too, but the sofa is calling quite loudly at the moment.
I understand totally.
Hi Boran.
OK what did you buy, what’s for dinner tonight?
Glad your day is so nice. It’s a nice day here today too.
Hay, FM! Organic chicken hot dogs. Mmmm.
Hay, Boran! I didn’t even know there was such a thing. 🙂
for those longing for winter <looks at fm>…we’ve got the first taste in the foothills, a very fonky day. light rain and trace of snow overnight and this morning, temps in mid 30ºf range…brrrrr…it was in the 70’s yesterday.

lTMF’sA
Hiya dada.
Yep I’ll take the cold weather and any snow you can send. We were in the mid 40’s this morning, and we’re at about 83 at the moment.
Beautiful colors on the leaves. Enjoy the market.
Spring has sprung
the grass has ris’
and this is where the Bunny is
Albert likes to roam around the veggie garden when we’re outside working in it. It’s fully rabbit-proof fenced, so we don’t worry about his escaping. As you can see, we don’t weed the walkways between the raised beds.
An unexpected crop.
We layered this bed with compost made out of one part alpaca poo to two parts hay (with lots of the kitchen scrapes thrown in). Apparently some of the mushroom stems that went out with the compost bucket still had spores attached. We got over six pounds of mushrooms in one week.
Expected crops.
It’s mostly spinach in this shot, with swiss chard in the front, leeks in the back, and a variety of lettuces just getting started on the left. I’ll be putting my tomatoes out this weekend.
The mushroom shot is strangely beautiful. I like the way you composed it.
Is Albert pissed at you ’cause it sure looks like he’s giving you the hairy eyeball?
Good morning, Andi!
You got going early today…
Yeah I woke up at 3 and gave up trying to go back to sleep at 4.
Are you back from your campus visits?
Yes, back Saturday night.
She liked all three schools we visited.
Well, that really narrows it down, doesn’t it? 🙂
Well, there’s always money as a deciding factor. 🙂
(Hi CG)
Aren’t they ALL expensive these days?
Sorry you were up so early this morning..
Nice bunch of volunteers you got there.
Does anyone know what to do for a pinched nerve? I have one in my neck, and it’s killing me, not to mention making my hand a little numb.
