Russ Feingold, commenting on the Senate floor today…the fifth anniversary of Congress’s passage of the Authorization to Use Military Force in Iraq.
“I will not stand idly by while this mistaken war continues. I will continue working to end this war and bring our troops home, and I will continue looking in the days and weeks ahead for opportunities to debate and vote on ending the war – this year, and, if necessary, next as well. My colleagues may complain, they may be inconvenienced, they may prefer to focus on other matters. But this Congress has no greater priority than making right the mistake it made five years ago when it authorized this misguided war.”
I wish Feingold were running for president. But, I guess Chris Dodd will have to do…even though he voted for the lousy war five years ago.
Five years is a long-time. No?
He is about the only stand-up, take a position, lead on an issue person running on the Dems. I am uncomfortable with some of his positions, but believe that he is very solid on a number of important issues.
what issues are you concerned about?
It’s 1,826 days too damn long. I wonder how many dead Americans per day that’s been, around 2.5? And about 1,000 dead Iraqis per day? WHAT A DEAL!!! Thanks Congress!!!

Damn liberals just can’t focus on what’s important. You conveniently don’t mention the billions siphoned off by Halliburton, Blackwater, and the rest of our patriotic godfathers. Why can’t you ever report the positive news?
Feingold voted to confirm Roberts. I can’t say I am sorry he isn’t running.
Yeah, what would it take to get him to run? Aren’t things bad enough now?
5 years have passed and we still don’t have a valid reason for this war.
